Introduced another couple to this rather new Waxhaw eatery. Made a reservation by phone, because their web site "reservations" link does not work. Not too crowded on this Sunday night with rainy weather, so were seated right away. Very nice and interesting menu. A lot of work went into developing it and they created many special names for sides. You will see. I had the blackened redfish entree ($25) and it was a very large portion of fish and the funny shrimp in rice side was pretty blah, though the fresh green beans were excellent. Won't order this entree again. Wife had a pecan crusted chicken salad ($15) that was a hamburger- sized patty of breaded chicken cut into strips, accompanied by a heap of lettuce mix. Pretty basic and wife tired of the "salad" quickly. Other couple had an appetizer of Fried Calamari ($16) along with a bowl of Tomato Bisque ($7). All of us loved the tomato bisque and recommend it. The calamari was over cooked/over fried with the smaller pieces hard enough to break a tooth and the larger pieces not much fun to eat. Kitchen needs to look at this, unless this is standard product. Wife had the Our Cuban sandwich ($13) which was exactly what a slushed Cuban should be, with smoked pork, ham, swiss cheese, topped with spicy mustard and pickles. All in a nice Telera roll, which was soft enough so that biting into the sandwich did not force the contents out the back of the sandwich on to the plate. She loved it. Yes we all split two desserts, an apple cobbler ($9) and a root beer float ($8). There is a nice beverage/libations menu and we ask you to pay attention to the prices. The wines have a small portion, a larger portion and bottle prices. I had a large glass of the Language of Yes Cuvée Sinsó, red blend at $22. Wife had a large glass of Ghostrunner Ungrafted Red Blend at $14 and the other wife had a large glass of Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Cabernet Sauvignon at $26. We felt the prices were very steep, but simply recommend that you look closely at the prices for each beverage you order so you will not be surprised at the cost. All said, Sip and Cinder is a good place to go. You will like the semi-casual atmosphere and clever menu. We will be returning. read more

Stopped in for a midweek lunch after they'd been open for a few weeks. Noticed my Yelp pal Mitch K had visited and gave a good review so in we sauntered. Nice redo of a basic box restaurant as we were promptly greeted, seated, and served. Ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and lunch-size portion of mussels, and a Beef on a Weck sandwich with collard greens. The wine, the service, the mussels, and the collards were all very good. The Weck, however, did not live up to it's billng. Having grown up on 'em and made a few mean ones myself, this sammie is a basic French Dip with a sprinkle of caraway seeds. A proper Weck (i.e. Kimmelweck) is an egg washed Kaiser roll topped with lots of toasted caraway seeds and coarse sea salt, the beef is thinly sliced, medium rare beef (not thick, grey deli beef), and the horseradish is smeared on the beef vs. served on the side. Really not that good. Sip & Cider have a great location, an interesting menu, and plenty of space to be great. Has my "Give 'em a Whirl" meter heading back soon for another visit. Support local. We've been to Sip and Cinder shortly after they opened but didn't have great food. Since they were new, we definitely wanted to give them another try and we're so glad we did. I had a Cuban sandwich with brussel sprouts, my husband had salmon and we shared the deviled eggs. Everything was excellent, flavorful and cooked just right. It was a Saturday night around 6:30 and every table was full. The only drawback was it is very loud when they are busy. Our server was great. We will be back soon as they have a menu with many items I'd like to try. read more

We had lunch here. Casual atmosphere, could be a bit noisy, great waitress Camy. Intriguing menu features lots of appealing appetizers, mains and sides. We ordered the sorghum brussel sprouts, not overly sweet but yummy, half smoked chicken with Alabama white sauce, and pecan crusted trout. Beautifully plated, good portions, prices on par. My dining mate enjoyed the trout over risotto and topped with peaches , my smoked chicken was somewhat dry and white sauce too vinegar tasting for me and would not order the chicken again.. My green beans very tasty as well as my coleslaw which I subbed for the mac and cheese. We would certainly return and try other menu choices. Had their version of shrimp and grits and I was surprised it was tomato which is unusual, but it was very flavorful and I would get it again. Nice restaurant that's a good choice for Waxhaw. read more

This was our first time there. Motivations inside are pretty decent. Staff was friendly. They were very busy and I think some of the staff was new so they were a little slow at times. The deviled eggs as an appetizer or just OK nothing special. The food was good and the price point was moderate. I like the way it's set up and I think this place has potential. Recommend. read more

I have to say the food was really good! We had heard so many good things about this place. Our night started with a 6 o'clock reservation. A friendly hostess seated us. Our waitress seemed to be very attentive and friendly. We ordered appetizers and wanted to wait a few to order our dinners. That's when our service went south. We were left sitting for over 30 mins, she finally came to take our order. She came back a few mins later to tell us they were out of ribs. It seemed kind of early to be out of a main menu item. So we ordered different menu items. We literally sat there for over 30 mins waiting for sandwiches to come out. Everyone around us was getting their food and again we sat there with no communication. Ahh here comes our food. My husband ordered sweet potato fries. His sandwich came out without them. We were told they would be a few mins. Then we wait some more for our check! I am thankful we were with good company. We arrived at 5:50 and left at 8:20. Not because we were lingering, it was poor service and communication. We will go back and give it another try but, I wouldn't want the same waitress. We all felt she could had something to us about the long waits. We felt ignored. read more

We visited Sip & Cinder for the first time for lunch, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The table setting was immaculate, adding an elegant touch that I appreciated. We ordered the smash burger, and calamari . Each dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The smash burger was seasoned well and cooked perfectly as well as the calamari. Overall, our first visit to Sip & Cinder did not disappoint. Y'all are nuts with your reviews! I've been here twice. Although, new, getting their legs on straight. I was cared for impeccably. The food is amazing. I've experienced a few different dishes at this point food is fresh and made to order. Great wine selection and amazing management that cares for the service they provide. We love the Flipside restaurants and was excited to try Sip & Cinder. We ordered appetizers (deviled eggs and pimento cheese). Both were decent but would try different ones next time. Entree items were great. We had burgers, the brisket, and French dip. Service was okay. We had to flag down a few times for someone to come over and get refills, all the while cups kept piling up on the table. We will give it another chance. read more

Ever have one of those moments where you genuinely wonder if you've stepped onto a different planet? Like... who opens a restaurant and seems to actively dislike having customers? That was my experience at Sip & Cinder. This was my first visit here after enjoying their sister restaurant in Rock Hill, so expectations were reasonably high. Food: The bacon-wrapped dates were excellent--easily the highlight. The beef on weck had good flavor and a nice horseradish kick, but it came out lukewarm. That might be on expecting a hot sandwich. The caraway seed bun was smooshed, though it didn't completely ruin the sandwich. One dinner companion ordered an off menu turkey reuben and was disappointed. The server noticed that and did remove it from the bill, without us asking - we would've paid for it without issue. Service: Our server (Cam?) was solid--attentive, helpful, and made good recommendations. No complaints there. The bartender, however, was a completely different story. Ambience: Pretty generic. Minimal decor, comfortable seating, nothing particularly memorable. It can get a little echoey, but noise wasn't a major issue. The Issue: The drinks are tiny. Small glassware, light pours--it honestly felt like I ordered a martini off a kids menu. One of my dinner companions even commented on it before I noticed it. Her wine I'm sure was a measured pour, but it wasn't impressive in the glass. When I politely asked if my second drink could be a bit fuller, the bartender (another server?) personally delivered it and said, "I heard you had a question about the drink size." I explained it seemed small and mentioned the glass might be part of it. She responded, "It's one shot, and that's a normal martini glass." (It wasn't--it was a coupe). That second drink came out exactly the same. I would've just ordered a double, it would've fit in the glass. FWIW, $11 for the martini. Shortly after, I watched her talking with two servers and pointing back at our table--clearly discussing the interaction. Small pours are one thing. A little attitude is another. But openly talking about customers within view? Not acceptable. If you're going to serve undersized drinks, stand by it professionally. Don't get defensive--and definitely don't gossip about your guests. Bottom line: Good food, decent service at the table, but the bar/drink experience alone has made my return unlikely. read more

As a fan boy of The Flipside Group for several years we were glad to see a new kid in Waxhaw, Sip & Cinder. Food Lion parking lot location may leave a little to be desired but the interior remodel turned out nicely. NOTE: S & C do assess a 3% CC Surcharge. This was a To-go order so my experience might be different than what you may get eating in. $16 Flipside Burger was not the same as RH or FM, two skinny dry patties rather than the single juicy one? Not sure if you can request cook to order (prefer MR) as the bar keep was little help? Little flavor from garnish as the onion jam, pimento cheese & shredded lettuce was very light? Kaiser roll and fries were great. $12 Smoked 1/4 Chicken w/Southern Green Beans was coded as NO SAUCE (why?) and underwhelming. S & C fell short of my "Flipside" expectation. With the stiff competition from other full service restaurants in town they will need to do better. read more

Ok. Here's the good the bad and the ugly IMO. The ambience and atmosphere is a 2. I'm looking out the window at the Auto Zone sign and the interior still screams Bojangles. The service is AWESOME! We had an amazing waitress Cam who was so on top of us in a good way ! I got the smash burger and it was WAY over salted. And I LOVE salt. It was too much for me. I ordered sweet potato fries and got regular. Cam was quick to fix it. My son got the brisket and my hubby got the 1/2 chicken. They were OK.... But not great. The chicken was best. The green beans were grossly over cooked. I don't think I will go back to be honest. read more

The menu is very varied and gets your salvia glands activated at once! I had the pecan encrusted trout and it was a party in my mouth! The portions were plentiful, I made myself leave some , so I could have it for lunch the next day, The service was attentive, it took all of us awhile to get through the lovely descriptions of the food and drinks! Fans of Flipside in Rock Hill so we were excited to give Sip and Cinder a try. Definitely make reservations as there is limited seating and many people came in and left due to wait time for walk ins. We're from Dallas, TX and might have a bias towards bbq/smoked meats - my wife ordered the brisket and I order the ribs. My ribs were cold and over-seasoned. Meat was extremely dry - adding bbq sauce didn't help. Honestly - Applebee's ribs are better than these - Huge disappointment! My sides of brussel sprouts and sweet potato fries were excellent. My wife's brisket was served as a mass of meat - not sliced as is traditionally done with brisket and not given a steak knife - cutting brisket with a butter knife doesn't work. Her greens were served in a cast iron dish and the iron taste was overwhelming (cleaning issue?) We had a party of six and our server was new - food came out sporadically and 2 in our party didn't get their food until 6 minutes after everyone else. Interior is nicely decorated. Some reviews have commented on the views out the window of AutoZone/Food Lion - that's out of their control. The timing of service and preparation of food is in their control and in my opinion still needs worked out. Take a trip to the Texas Hill Country and take in some brisket/ribs and see how it should be done. read more

Super nice folks here. Manager was fun to talk to. Had the half smoked chicken and it was super tender and flavor was on point. I didn't have the mac and cheese but it looked good. Subbed collards for them. Collards were good. The southern beans were kind of soggy. I would prob do mac and cheese and swap out the beans for collards next time. I had it with the Piedmont vinegar sauce versus Alabama white sauce. Definitely give these folks your business. They are trying hard with the local community read more

Here is my ratings based on lunch on June 2 at 2 pm. Food 7, atmosphere 3.5, service 6. We could not believe that they only had one chardonnay wine on the menu. And no house wine, only the one chardonnay. 6 ounce pour was 15.00 and a 9 ounch was 22.50. I think they need to understand that this is Waxhaw, not downtown Charlotte. read more

Went for breakfast on a Sunday Morning. All I can say is that it was very underwhelming. We were seated right away. Our server seemed very disjointed. The flow of the meal was just off. Not a big deal, just odd. The carafe that we were served water from had green algae around the rim. When ordering, she didn't seem to have a grasp on how eggs were cooked. One in our group ordered his eggs sunny side up, and she was very confused and said "so over easy?". I ordered Eggs Benedict, and she says "are you ok with over easy eggs?" I corrected her and said eggs Benedict comes with poached eggs. Food took a long time to come considering it wasn't busy. The food was very bland. It seemed they concentrated more on the visual aspect, and forgot about the flavor. The pancakes were just ok. Flavorless without syrup. My eggs Benedict was very flavorless. The hollandaise sauce had zero flavor. The English muffin was soggy, and not well toasted. The hash bowl had a weird sauce, and wasn't really hash, just some meat on a bed of undercooked hash browns. The cheese grits were very coarse and had no flavor. Overall expensive for the quality. Maybe lunch is better???? read more

Fabulous food, fabulous service, and fabulous atmosphere. It is so exciting to have a quality restaurant in our little Waxhaw area.

The server was so rude and could not care less if we liked or didn't like our food. The brisket would not even cut with a steak knife.

My wife and I had our 2nd experience at this new Waxhaw gem last night, and it did not disappoint! We sat in the bar area, which I highly recommend, and were treated with old school hospitality by Jamie & Martin, and cannot wait to dine there again. The service at the bar is top notch. I just moved from Austin, TX to Waxhaw. I was very disappointed in the margaritas in this town until I went to Sip and Cider. James, the bartender makes a great margarita. My only suggestion is that they offer a better selection of tequilas. The vibe is fun, very friendly and accommodating staff. I've only had apps and a chicken sandwich which were both Ok, but I will def be a regular here. read more
