Years and years ago I used to liken a trip to the dentist's to two movies, Marathon Man and Brazil. If you've seen either, you know what I'm talking about. Well, that all changed about 10 years ago when a friend of mine referred me to Dr. Clauss. Now, I actually don't mind going to the dentist and don't shudder in horror like I used to before I met Dr. Clauss. He is, hands down one of my favorite doctors ever. He (and his staff) are the absolute nicest people and have the most laid back and comfortable (and professional) office atmosphere I've ever been in. They all get along so well and that translates to their patients. It seems that everyone who comes to see him is an old friend (sometimes I almost forget I'm at the dentist). The staff are always jovial* and really kind too. He is very thorough at explaining any dental questions and you never feel like you're rushed because your health is the number one priority. Oh, and another bonus is that the radio in the office is usually tuned into a classic rock station. How cool is that? I had gone to a neighborhood dentist who took two minutes to glance at an x-ray, never looked in my mouth and told me I needed $10,000 worth of work. I was shocked. I told a friend about this. My friend told me to go see Dr. Clauss. I did. He looked at the same x-rays. He looked in my mouth. He said: "I thought you were bringing me problems". There is the difference. So I meet the new guy at work: "Hi," I say, "my name's Mykel. I'm the only guy in New York who likes his landlord and his dentist." It's my standard joke, but true. Dr. Clauss is that dentist. A great personality, a human being who knows that people usually don't like going to the dentist. A person who really works to minimize your pain. That includes waiting for the insurance company, and putting up with more than I would put up with. He'll explain what he does in detail, explain why he's doing it, show you the x-rays, and let you make the final decisions. He'll fight with insurance companies if he thinks you need something they won't pay for. He never skimps, and you never get the idea he's running back and forth between patients just to squeeze out another dollar. I will have to 2nd the review already posted about Dr Clauss.... he did in fact change my whole belief system about going to the dentist & now I don't hate going anymore. I had dentists inventing fake cavities in my mouth I knew didn't exist so that they can make a buck putting fillings in my teeth, and then a friend recommended I go to Dr Clauss. Not only did I not have a cavity, but the first time I thought I did, he took a look & said i just had a sensitivity...gave me a special paste to use that week (for free) and sure enough it worked. Great, great staff... always helpful, always reasonable.... & needless to say, great dental work. I have now been going to him probably over 10 years and I send EVERYONE to Dr Clauss. THE BEST DENTIST EVER. There really still are decent doctors in the world. read more

He was gentle, non-judgemental, and was flexible with everything. Dr. Clauss has worked many miracles in my mouth, saving teeth from needing root canals, by very careful filling. He is gentle and kind and has a lovely humor.
