The shop was extremely easy to make an appointment with, and they were very honest and upfront about the issue and how to fix it. Price was extremely reasonable and less than anticipated. They are on your side as a customer, and I would recommend them to anyone. My issue was related to a headlight issue after having it serviced at a Volkswagen dealership in another city. read more

These guys saved our trip. My daughter's 2012 Jeep's brakes gave out during a move into a new apartment. The usual place that we go to was booking 20 days out! I was really worried that we were not going to be able to get this thing fixed in a timely manner and these guys came through in a big way. And, they are completely understaffed just like everyone else is right now and they still were able to get our car back to us in less than two days. Thank God they had the parts. Absolute warning: they will likely misdiagnose your issue and upcharge you for irrelevant repairs. Took a 2012 Jeep Patriot in, and was quoted over $1500 for repairs that were completely unrelated to the issue. Was forced to take it to another mechanic, who was able to correctly identify the issues for a fraction of the price. Warning to women as well, I had to step in because they were trying to take advantage of my fiance. Cannot be trusted, avoid at all costs. read more

I dropped my vehicle off and he gave me an estimate of the labor and parts if the potential problem was verified. well they didn't tell me that the diagnostic was $150. I thought it was like the other two autoshops I had been to that were free diagnostics. not being upfront with charges is shady in my book. read more

I have been using Charleston Auto Repair for a while since living in Charleston. In the past 12 months I have had several things done to two of my vehicles to the tune of thousands of dollars. This review has to do with the repairs made to my pickup truck. I had brakes, rotars and tires (best they had) put on my truck. When I got home I decided to wash and detail my truck and I am glad I did. One of the tires had THREE of the five bolts so loose I could turn them by hand. I tightened them and checked the others but went back made sure they checked them and well. TODAY while traveling in NC I heard a knock in the front left of my truck along with a bump. As I drove it got worse. I located a tire dealer close by (thank you google) and when they got it on the lift called me back to see the problem. One of the 3/4" x 2" bolts holding the rotar plate had FALLEN OUT! And even worse the bolt on the other part of the bracket was so loose he could spin with his fingers. Then when he checked the others side of the truck... THEY WERE LOOSE TOO!!!! This is insane!!! He said any longer and it would have been a BAD situation and I stopped a the right time. I spent four hours today waiting for them to locate a bolt that would work and when they put it in they had trouble because it had damaged the threads a bit. It's hard to believe that a business like this can allow very serious mistakes / workmanship on things that can be catastrophic. He explained that if you do not torque down on the bolts (in stead of just relying on an impact wrench) often times it doesn't secure them. I called the shop to inform the manager so that he could educate his mechanics and to inform him I would be writing this review. He apologized and said to send him the bill and he would see what he could do. I told him it was not necessary because I would just share my story instead. So, when it comes to tires and breaks DO NOT use Charleston Auto Repair on Hwy 61 in West Ashley. read more

Warning to all women: I do not recommend this mechanic at all. I took my car in and after a few days they had it 'fixed',I paid them over 1,100 and the transmission started slipping after I drove it off the lot. They misdiagnosed my issue and when I brought it back the next day they wanted to charge me again to diagnosis it for the second time and would not cover the costs to fix it. They were unprofessional and the only person there I can recommend is the sweet receptionist upfront. Be careful out there, because I'm out 1,100+ and my car still isn't drivable :( read more

Zero stars. We picked this place based on reviews, huge mistake. They seriously must be dealing with some personal issues right now. Mechanic and front desk were more than rude. My daughter was lucky to just get out of there with $154 diagnostic test that they were reluctant to share. They quoted us $1,300.00 plus the diagnostic test for $154.00. I could go on but you get the gist. Told them not to repair it and took it down the road, had it repaired for $400.00. They completely tried to take advantage of my daughter and double talk us. They tried to charge $700.00 labor for a one hour job. read more

Relatively quick turn around. The price of the parts were comparable to what I could get from auto parts stores; not a ridiculous up charge. Labor charge wasn't bad, however I'm familiar with other shops not charging a diagnostic fee if you choose to fix it there. So glad I found a place I can trust!! After having gone to the Honda dealership for a simple oil change, I was handed a list of very expensive items that NEEDED to be replaced. I was even shown pictures of someone else's car that was leaking fluids and they claimed it was my car!! I found Charleston Auto Repair to get a second opinion and I am SO GLAD I did! They were able to show me with my own two eyes my own car and where Honda had told me things "needed" to be replaced. They assured me that my car was completely fine and needed no repairs. My '08 Jeep's "idiot" (engine) light came on. With 107k miles I come to expect that from time to time. Well, they fixed me up right and got me rolling again. Saved me some $$ also by using "their" locksmith. Needed a new key fob. Dealer price? Over $100 more than what their locksmith charged for the chip-embedded remote key and cutting it. This place treated me well, fairly. I'll use them again. As another post stated though, they are Extremely busy and quite likely understaffed, like everyone else. Just be mindful of that if you want to schedule a routine maintenance. read more

My X3 had the PSI tire inflation warning light on, they put the correct air pressure in my tires with no charge. I have been going here for years and I fully trust them. They tell you everything that is wrong without trying to sell you a bunch of extras. Their prices are reasonable. I went recently after not going for about 2 years and the owner remembered me and was so nice, as always. Although the coupon I had for an oil change was for cars and light trucks, he let me use it for my large SUV which was awesome. $30 for an oil change, new filter and tire rotation is a great deal, especially when they are local, so friendly and got my car done pretty fast even though they were busy! read more

Charleston Auto Repair came through again with flying colors. I was having a problem with my ABS kicking in and breaking at 10mph down to 5mph. I took it to the dealer where they wanted to charge me more than $550 to replace the wheel hub w/bearing. I took it by Charleston Auto Repair and got quoted $200 less! Marty, the owner, checked and found out the 3 yr warranty part was only $9 more than the 1 yr warranty part. The work was scheduled for Tuesday. When I took it in, I casually mentioned that I could not unlock my passenger door even with the key. I also added the oil change. I got a call only a few hours later that my vehicle was ready to pick up. Later in the day, to my surprise, my passenger door miraculously COULD open. They fixed it and didn't charge me. It was a nice surprise that they apparently wanted me to discover myself. :-) Boy am I GLAD I started using Charleston Auto Repair! read more

As far as auto repair experiences go, this has to be right at the top of my list. I had never been to Charleston Auto Repair. The water pump failed, and the car couldn't be driven very far without overheating. I called at 7:30 am. and asked if I could bring the car in at noon would it be fixed by the time they closed. When I arrived, Marty told me he was down two mechanics and was pretty backed-up. I was worried, but ten minutes later, the car was moving to the lift. The work they did was thorough, professional and reasonably priced. Marty and his whole team are great. read more
