Definitely it a destination campground - our kid goes to college in Charleston and we have our favorite out in Hollywood that we usually stay at. But this was a quick trip because of an event at the kid's school and it's a straight shot on 26 into town. The staff was amazing! Of course we had to travel through what was being called an epic winter storm, so the first thing they did was put a hold on our site in case we got stuck down here. 2nd when she asked if we brought the dogs with us, she moved us to a different premium site that was closer to the dog park. Super convenient! It's an older park, but it is very well maintained. The sites are on top of each other, but we pretty much expect that from every KOA. This was middle of the winter, so everyone was spread out. The maintenance crew was working there tails off. Looks like they are leveling sites and there was a lot of new lumber in stacks. Not sure if they are redoing fencing? Would we stay here again for a quick trip? Absolutely. Again, it's an easy trip down 26 into downtown. read more

This site is located in the "iffy" part of town. -Laundry rm is locked from 8pm until 7am. -Grass stayed a foot tall around our RV for the duration of our 5-day stay. -Water pressure in the showers was nonexistent. Uneven site, narrow site, shitty site with uncapped sewer, road noise, airplane traffic overhead, sketchy Tengonet WiFi and high overnight rates. 20 miles from downtown Charleston. I'm one and done. Great place to stop and stay if you need to be in the area. It isn't a destination campsite. We were visiting relatives. We stayed 9 nights and enjoyed our stay. No rain so I can't say how it would be if it did rain. Price was decent compared to other more luxury camping sites around Charleston. Pretty level spots did need to add an inch to level. Hook ups are good. Grass was cut and playground is nice for kids. Pool was clean and is in the sun. Nice chairs around it. Picnic tables were in good shape. Lot sizes are decent for most of them. Some where a little close. Other campers where super nice and everyone was respectful. Staff was very helpful. We couldn't get our RV started when we were about to leave. They held the spot open for us just in case we couldn't leave. Maintenance guys are a hoot. They helped us out with some tools and tried to brainstorm some ideas as to why it wouldn't start. I was told that new maintenance crew started about 6 months ago. They have been on top of the issues earlier reviewers had issues with. Lawns were cut, area was clean. Trash is picked up 2 times per day at your site. There is dog waste bags and trash cans almost every 100 feet. Dog waste is taken away each day. Thank goodness. That s..t will stink in the hot sun. There is a dog run also. I did not see any dog waste on the ground. There is a trailer park that backs up to it. On the weekends it gets a little loud with music playing. You can here the road, planes, and sirens. Did this bother me...no. They do have a police presence on site for the late hours. I saw it parked there for many hours almost each night when I woke up and peaked out. One star off for location near busy road and trailer park. It is convenient for us to visit relatives at this location and we will be back. read more

As an older, single woman traveling alone, I stay at quite a few KOAs as I know I have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the campgrounds and its location. Would I stay here again, I don't know. The office staff were very friendly and helpful and I love the mature trees. The location worked well for me as I don't like to stay "in town" when I am traveling. The wifi at this campground has been the best that I have seen this summer! I was there for 6 nights and the speed of their wifi was awesome! My concerns are that the space I was in was considerably smaller than some of the others and I had 6 nights there. Also, when it rained, and that would be 3 of the days that I was there, I had to try to get several inches of water to get in and out of my motorhome. Add to this that I have two dogs that had to walk through it. The dog park was not kept up plus there was no lighting so they closed it at dusk. I don't know about you, but I take my dogs out just before bed. The laundry room was an open-air room that they would close the gate at 8 pm. I am not accustomed to the humidity so I am folding laundry and sweating like crazy. The laundry room itself could use a little more attention. There was one washer and one dryer out of order and the "floor" seemed a bit gritty. Last but not least, coming into the campground was a bit worrisome at the beginning. Adjacent to this KOA is an older mobile home park with a number of homes that had seen better days. While the residents there seem pleasant, the visual eyesore was a bit concerning. read more

We were looking for a campground in the Charleston area that was relatively close to downtown. Because it is summer, most campgrounds were full. We were able to find a full hook-up site at the Charleston KOA in Ladson, SC. Reservations were easy to make, and the person we spoke with was friendly. We arrived late in the afternoon, so it was easy to see and to back into our site. Setup and connection was efficient and quick. The site was pretty level. Comments on the campground: - The campground office and store was small but nice. - The campground was relatively clean. - All the staff who we interacted with at the KOA were nice and helpful. - Trash pickup was efficient. Staff came around in the morning and afternoon to pick up any trash that campers set out next to the street. - Other campers were quiet and respectful of each other. - The bath house was about 100 yards away, and it was nice and was clean. One minor complaint is that there were no paper towels to dry hands - only hand dryers. - KOA provided a fire ring for us to use. - They had a pool that several people were using. - WiFi was weak, so we had to connect to our personal hotspots. - It rained most days we were there, and there were several puddles around our site - The campground just seemed less clean than several other campgrounds we have been to We stayed for 5 nights. It was an ok stay. The campsite was functional, the campground store was nice, and the bathhouse was clean and nice. Overall, I give Charleston KOA a 5/10 rating. read more

After seeing the questionable reviews, we were nervous for our trip here. We shouldn't have been! Everything was nice & well kept. The staff were all friendly, the pool was clean and refreshing on a hot day, the pull through site was spacious. The park was quiet- we were in a spot far from the entrance (G10) and wouldn't have wanted to switch for any other spot. We used the fire ring and purchased wood bundles from the store. Also purchased bags of ice and cold sodas from the store. The area was patrolled at night by police which was a nice touch of security. A 25 minute drive into downtown Charleston wasn't bad at all either! Would definitely stay again. Only word of caution: avoid Sullivan's Island if you want to drink a beer on the beach. Charleston beaches are dry beaches-- no alcohol allowed. Learned the hard way! read more

Very few selections in the Charleston area. Since it is off a main road in the Charleston area, there is heavy traffic during peak times. The graveled sites need more gravel. We had a hard time leveling because of the recent rain making the site a little soft. The KOA is right next to a trailer park, so the evening noise of music can be a little loud. Would I stay here again...probably not as I may find a parking lot a little more quite and easier to pull into. read more

We have stayed at many Koa's the last five years. This is a very clean camp. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. It is a little close to the next campsite but it is not overwhelming. I have a 40 foot class A diesel pusher, which was very easy to park. Site is very level and ample room to park with your toad vehicle. The Wi fi was great and provided ample power to stream and do business. We enjoyed our visit to the Charleston area and to downtown. The fishing, sightseeing, and parks were nice. We will come again to this Holiday, KOA RV campsite. We give it a 4.5 out of 5 for this review. Price was about average, we will be happy to stay again. read more

The positives were they don't have dog breed restrictions and the employee that checked us in was nice. They also have a dog park. The facilities are well worn and when we went to shower there was no hot water. The area doesn't look the best but we stayed two nights and had no issues. Site was low ground. After a rain we had about 3" of standing water out our door. Last thing is the road noise loud. My husband and I spent 5 nights here. This is our 5th KOA and we were very surprised pulling in. Turning off the highway you pull into a trailer park. The playground is disappointing, the pool is small, and my first thought was I'm glad we don't have our 3 young children with us. The site itself is great. Level, large, under a tree, good water pressure, no complaints. The majority of other campers here clearly live here. Half of our stay a pickup truck that I'm surprised runs and a very beat up boat were parked in a site next to us. We didn't feel unsafe and the people were friendly but we wouldn't be happy if our kids were with us. The location of the campground is great when spending the day in Charleston but, for a KOA, we were very disappointed. read more

Ok so a group of us are staying here because it was the only place to stay.. there are 6 rv's in our group and we stayed a little over two months. We have had 3 bikes stolen and 2 windows busted out by maintenance crew while mowing lawn's. The Manager is often nowhere to be found and when she is she is extremely rude. We have experienced several power outages because the electrical wiring in the park is out of date and an able to support the massive size of the newer RVs that are on the road today. I always thought that there was a standard to be held to when it came to being a KOA park not in this case at all absolutely the worst RV park we have ever stayed in read more

The people working in the office were very helpful with reservations, however, it felt rather strange to have to have a code to get into the bathrooms. I have camped most of my life, and have never had to have a code to get into any bathroom on a campground before. The campground itself is accessible only through driving through a trailer park to get to the KOA which is inside of it. This was rather questionable, I did not feel really safe, as it was just my daughter and I camping, and there were people that walked through the campground who were not camping in the KOA campground itself. We had reservations for two days, but after seeing the property, we quickly changed that to a one night reservation just because we did not feel safe staying there. In the morning when we woke up, the area around our cabin smelled of cat urine, which made me really feel as if I were making the right decision of leaving this KOA campground. I have stayed in many KOA campgrounds before, and none of them were this bad. I feel bad giving a bad review, but we had just come from another KOA the night before, and this one didn't even compare to that one. read more

Two stars. Kimberly is the only reason they didn't get one star. Here's why- Traffic to get in or out of this place is pretty substantial. One way in. One way out. If this was my only gig against them, they would have a 4 star review. However, Kimberly is the only person with any knowledge or sense here. Too bad she is NEVER Around. It's always a young kid or someone that has to call Kim to find out anything. They are not bright. At all. The WiFi is horrible. I'm here for work. I'm not here on vacation or Holiday. Simply work. I can't even access a WiFi good enough to submit basic emails for timesheets. It's that bad where they stuck me. There are certain amenities that a KOA is charging me for. Always have. Pools, WiFi, locked showers, decent parks, dog parks, rewards etc. I do not feel as if I'm getting my money's worth. This is my first time staying at one for work alone and I'll never do it again. Ive been all over the country with the wife. If she was here, we would've been gone already. I've paid for the month already so it's pointless to move. But I still can't wait to move. What I've mentioned above and the ghetto trailer park I listen to on a daily basis is the reason for not getting any more stars. Actually, I can here the kids in the permanent trailer running around next door as I type. I hate bitchy people in bitchy reviews and I may sound like one now. This is the worst campsite we have ever stayed at. The grass was not cut. The place we had to hock up our water and cable was so grown up my husband had to pull the weeds and grass away. There was dog feces all over our site and the campsite that we were next to was nasty and they had a dog that just run wild and he did not pick up his dogs feces or have him on a leash. The people that were staying there were working in Charleston for a long term. They said the grass had not been cut for months only when they asked about it. I watch the person cutting the grass and he hit a lick and promise at it. I thought KOA was suppose to be a clean place. It was attached to a run down trailer park. I did not feel safe to walk around the park. I would not recommend anyone to stay there. I know we will never go back even if they gave it to me free!!! read more

We are staying in a 5th wheel in a pull through site with full hook up. I am very pleased. Grounds are well maintained. Staff is very professional and friendly. Sites all appear to be level and free of weeds/debris, ours was. Nice patio furniture and grill. We haven't used the restrooms so I can't comment on them. We walked our dogs around campground and all resident sites were clean and free of junky clutter. There's plenty of room to walk and the doggie park is well maintained. Lovely pool. Store has the essentials as all KOA stores do. There is some air traffic but not bad whatsoever. We will be back if in the area! read more

At certain hours of the day, this camp ground is difficult to get in and out of owing to its location on the highway and no traffic light to control the flow of traffic at the entrance. Upon pulling in, the first thing one sees is a broken down trailer park -- Plantation Acres -- one of the trailers was littered with beer cans and trash on the front lawn. The campground was crowded and our campsite was small, so I had to park my vehicle sideways in front of my RV. From the front window I could see some sort of water tower and from the rear I could see the highway and from either side windows were the RVs parked closely next to me. It was expensive to stay here for such an unimpressive campground. In the plus column, the lots were treed so it shaded the hot Carolina sun and there seemed to be some nice landscaping. We were only passing through and stayed the night but I suspect this might be a good location for exploring Charleston. read more

When my wife and I camp 9 times out 10 we choose KOA campgrounds or a state park. We like KOA for several reasons: 1. KOA's are family run, so when you stay on one, your supporting a locally owned family business. 2. The rates are good, staff is friendly and helpful and the campground, bathrooms and pool area are always clean. 3. This KAO is less expensive, quieter, and less crowded then the one in Mount Pleasant on the other side of Charleston. 4. You can choose how you camp in a KOA- In a tent, log cabin, log cabin with bathroom and kitchen or your travel trailer or motorhome. 5. Most KOA's are in a wooded location, so you have a shady campsite and a nice areas take a walk and to observe nature. This is a smaller KOA but still has a pool, playground for the kids, horseshoe pit, basketball court, laundry facilities and a on site store in case you forget something. Most KOA's are a little of the beaten path, so you may have a short drive to get your destination, but that saves you money too by not being right in the center of things. We have stayed at this KOA several times and would do so again. If you are new to camping or have been doing it for years, you need to give a KOA a try on you next outing. read more

So I was aware that the cabin I was staying in was going to be small, but I certainly wasn't expecting how small it really is. The bunk beds ladder is in the way of the double bed that I am constantly stubbing my toes on the bottom step. There is a TV hook up, thankfully we had a TV available to us otherwise this room would be boring. It's literally the size of a shed you see in the lot that look like barns. The bathroom is not as nearby as we were given the impression of either, and you need a code to enter it. There is a trailor park that you turn into in order to enter the koa, but it's not like you're driving through them all before entering. It's not sketchy to me, they look decent. However, there are residents right behind the cabins that are loud, inconsiderate, and seem to stay up way late into the early morning hours with the loudest barking dog in the universe. The wifi is only good if you are staying near the office, otherwise it's too weak. Even worse, it's freezing and there is NO heater. Just an AC unit. For the price, I could probably go to a sketchy motel and get a bigger room with a bathroom and heat lol. read more

Mediocre at best, my husband and I were supposed to stay three nights here. We stayed one night because the next morning I was doubt dishes and our full hook up water connection was bone dry. I went to the office and was informed that the water was off to fix a leak. Fine I understand but my husband and I weren't informed the night before like everyone else, maybe it was because we got in at 8:30 none the less I was told they weren't sure how long it would take to repair the water leak. I was told it could be a day or two. Well we only had so much freak water on board Nevada we weren't given a heads up. Anyway, we are on our way to a different KOA now. Hopefully this one is better. I will say the pool area looked very nice here and the staff was very reasonable about giving us our money back. So that was a plus. Unfortunately, they are located next to a dumpy trailer park and that's the first thing you see when you pull in, that doesn't help with first impressions. read more

This place was OK. But barely. It is not in a great location. If you are trying to get in or out in the late afternoon - forget it! Traffic is awful and the drivers are not polite. There is also a tremendous amount of noise from the road. The pool was nice and not usually crowded. We were here in August so the pool was a welcome relief from the humidity. After losing our reservation due to the 1000 year floods at Oak Plantation, we called this KOA for a spot. There was plenty of room as most campers had headed to higher ground. It seemed odd coming through a trailer park to get here, but the staff was friendly and for the first time ever walked us to our site. It was flooded, but hey... did I mention the 1000 year rain? So, we dropped our trailer and went to sleep. As I write this morning...the standing water is gone, but the blight becomes more obvious. There is a creepy maintenance area surrounded by an ill advised fence, a shipping container for a storage area...which could use some serious paint or better yet, replace with something better on the eyes. I don't feel any particular danger here like a previous reviewer, but I can hear the highway...not unusual for a campground. It is also a little noisier than I think would be usual, because the grounds crew are cleaning up after what must have been a miserable four days of heavy rain. The camping sites themselves are either class 5 rock or grass. There are lots of full hookup sites and the cable tv and internet work. I see mostly pull through sites and some big rigs in here. Tree branch levels are generally high enough not to interfere with the big rigs, and is super roomy for our little popup. Due to the rains and a need to be with family in the Charleston area, we are sentenced to an entire week here. While thankful for the availability, it is easily not on the top of my list of campgrounds I would like to return to. And the backed up toilet isn't the reason...that stuff happens. read more
