We have a 30 foot travel trailer and were looking for a place near Charleston to stay for a few days. We decided to stay at Oak Plantation Campground because it was relatively close to downtown Charleston - 20-25 minutes. Before we got there, we were a little concerned because there were so many sites, and they looked like they were right on top of each other on the online campground map. Also, we were not able to pick a campsite - one was assigned to each camper. When we checked in, the people at the desk were nice and helpful. The campground store was nice. Driving to our site, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the campground was more spread out than we thought, and the sites were pretty spacious. The campground also appeared to be very clean. We had a back-in site that was easy to back into. It was also perfectly level and didn't require any leveling for our travel trailer. Our site was a full hook-up with water, electric and sewer. Our campsite was under a couple of tall trees, so we had some late afternoon shade. Some of the sites were in the open, so I can imagine they would get really hot in the summer. We were also close to the bath house which clean. Throughout our stay, the campground was quiet, and people were respectful of each other. They do not have fire rings or fire pits at the sites, but you can rent one for the night. Oak Plantation was a good campground, and we will probably use them again during future visits to Charleston. I give them an 7/10. read more

Let's start with the awesome! 1. It is beautiful 2. It's location is great to explore Charleston 3. They sell affordable propane on site The good: 1. They have a swimming pool (not heated), but the kids liked it 2. Laundry is affordable ($1.50 per wash) but not many machines 3. Shower/bathrooms available but not nice, roomy or anything, but they work. 4. Not tons of bug bites like in Florida. My skin appreciated the break. The bad: 1. As stated before, the staff here are not going to be accused of southern hospitality, even bordering on the complete opposite. Several less than pleasant interactions with multiple people but one lone guy who seems much more pleasant. Someone suggested everyone that is staff are all family so maybe the tone is set, but with an attitude change or maybe just following the one happy guys lead they could really lift this resort to the next level! 2. Weird pokey weeds (not sure what they are called in the south), but they hurt your dogs feet and are ALL OVER the grass and to a lesser extent even the gravel areas. See attached pic 3. LOTS of ants everywhere. Maybe a thing here. I don't know. 4. Can't turn left out of the parking lot unless it's early morning or later evening. Just go right and find a different way. read more

Overall disappointed. Staff is very friendly and helpful however this is a really large RV Park probably more suited towards Class A's. We have a C-Class 30 foot with two slides. We had to park on grass with just a little bit of gravel, the site was level. it rained heavily and there were tons of ants all over our RV inside and out the next morning. we had to do laundry and it was too far to walk so we had to unhook and drive up to the laundry room. This is a tiny room with for washing machines and two dryers. Lots of bugs and very small. Washers were old and I felt like my clothes were not cleaned properly. this is right off a main highway and though it was quiet because you are so far in the back of the property trying to get in or out of the RV park is extremely frustrating because it's so difficult to get in or out. read more

Nice enough campground but come on! Management needs to chill out. We had our trailer stored for one day there before we occupied the space, I'm talking to the manager about our upcoming week stay and after stopping and registering for our permanent spot, my wife went ahead to the stored trailer while the manager watched me try to give her the window pass for the storage site. The manager then lectured me About her needing a pass to proceed into the campground. Did you not see me trying to hand her this pass? You WILL get speed bump fatigue after your first trip into the campground. And leaving the facility, you have to beg S.C. 17 traffic to let you in or out 5am to 7 pm. Quiet: Don't be fooled. it seems like you go far away from the busy highway 17 when you enter the campground but bees ferry road is right behind the campground and it's fairly noisy with trucks and motorcycles at night, all night, And don't forget the train every night at around 3 am sounding 5 mandatory warning horns for imaginary cars in the intersection nearby. Finally, upon leaving yes, i admit, It was 11:15 and checkout is at 11:00 so I was little late due to having some technical problems winterizing my RV. I handed my pass to the manager and she reminded me that checkout was at 11:00. really? You're at 20% capacity, no one is waiting in line for my spot, no need to clean the room or fire pit. I dropped about $600 at your campground. you would think, I'd hear " thanks for staying with us! Have a nice trip! Come back soon! No. "You do know that checkout is 11:00? Not coming back voting with my feet. read more

This campground is close to Charleston not in it as it implies. Traffic around here is insane. They say they have Wi Fi but it is slow and not working half the time. They say they are pet friendly but I got in trouble from a grounds keeper for having my dog off leash in a remote area playing fetch and was told they have a dog run about 40 feet long and 20 feet wide for 250 camp units 1/4 mile from most sites. Not good. The good: sites are long and price good but no cable and we have stayed in much better. Glad I am only staying here 2 long nights. read more

Ok the negative reviews here are totally unwarranted. They have to be from competitors at the other two campgrounds in the area. We've stayed at MANY campgrounds across the country. This is one of the nicest places! Very spread out, you're not on top of your neighbor. The internet works great. We didn't use the cable as we have our own satellite. We asked for a satellite friendly space and we got it! The park is clean and maintained nicely. We don't use the bathhouses so I can't speak to those as we have everything on board our bus. If people are complaining about this place it's THEM not the park or the employees as everyone has been extremely nice. Don't believe the bad reviews! read more

I live here full time and the staff has always been attentive and kind. Facilities are clean and the grounds are always well kept.

The location is off the beaten path and on a very busy road. We had to constantly do a u-turn at the end due to how busy it is. Everything was 30+ mins away. Site backed up to a farm, where within feet of us was huge cows at a fence. So the smell was a little strong. We kept thinking it was our gray/black tank but sure enough it was the cows. Garbages were overflowing from not being emptied. Unfortunately, like most people have mentioned the front staff wasn't he most pleasant. We wouldn't stay here again due to not being close to any of the beaches/downtown/market street. If your just sitting at the site all weekend it's decent. Next time we will stay at the KOA. Also! This place is very pricy for the location and the lack of up keep on the grounds. Do the KOA, it is cheaper and nicer!! read more

This is a very well maintained RV park within driving distance of many beaches and restaurants. Definitely not the woodsy camping experience but very good for somewhere to put your RV while you do the touristy thing. Can hear vehicles from the main road but not noisy at all. Exceptionally clean bathrooms and extremely level pads, for once we didn't have to level anything. For dog owners- one of the largest and greenest dog runs I have been too. Lots of shade. Clean pool, playground has giant chess board and frisbee golf, plus swings. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Charleston read more

Go stay at the Charleston KOA over Oak plantation 100%. Oak Plantation is a dump! If you are looking for a place to stay to visit Charleston, stay at The Mount Pleasant KOA! Pros: Somewhat convenient to downtown despite the insane traffic directly outside the campground. Cons: -The people that work here. These are some of the scummiest, nastiest, and rudest people I've encountered at a campground. The owner must employ anyone who's willing to work minimum wage I suppose which attracts some people who have zero clue about customer service. -The price. For what you have to pay here, it's unjustifiable for the things you receive. -Traffic... This is the most absurd road to have a campground off of. Anytime you ever want to leave for doing anything in your car, you're stuck in awful traffic no matter what time of the day. -Beach access... The closest beach is Folly which is a good 50 minutes away. KOA is much more convenient than this place. Go stay at the Charleston KOA over Oak plantation 100%. Oak Plantation is a dump! We have never stayed here but had reservations for a week for the first week of April for the Volvo women's tennis tournament. The tournament was canceled due to the National Emergency from the Coronavirus pandemic. I called to cancel our camping reservations and the told me in was non refundable, ever with a National Emergency?? I sent them an email concerning this and got no response. Most everything is good here. 45 acre land with 220+ lots. It's situated in a busy road and a bit of a challenge to get out of it turning left. The trees are lovely. Several lots in the back haven slabs. The office store needs an upgrade. It's really lacking when compared to other campgrounds. For the most part the location is great. The staff was friendly. The amenities are average. They have a food truck that serves Italian dishes. They say Publix is within walking distance but it's too dangerous to walk because you have to go via the busy road. I wouldn't walk it. So, if you don't have a car, you're out of luck. If they had a stocked store that might remedy that issue. They have a pool but we didn't use it. They have a pond where you can fish but we didn't go near it as they have wild alligator and we don't want anything to do with that. The bathhouses are very clean and don't smell. The dump stations are clean and there are plenty of garbage, recycle, and ash bins are all over for your convenience. It appears they empty them regularly as well. Lastly, lots of speed bumps. But, I can see if they have a full house you'd want that in place. read more

Camped here while having some medical stuff attended to. Nice campground with helpful staff. Well maintained. Sites are mostly level, some concrete pads, some gravel and some grass. Most sites are pull through. Office has small store. Nice showers. Nice dog park. Some folks have complained about difficulty getting to and from park because of traffic. It is pretty busy when people are going to and from work but not much problem at other times. Turning left out of the park during rush hour can be a chore but if you're patient it will happen. A little traffic noise but you find that at most parks that are not off the beaten path. We will stay here again. read more

Horrible place to stay. Guy staff member at the front very rude. Can't remember his name. They do not honor the price they tell you when you make the reservation. Once we got to the park the price was doubled. Went to use the laundry services on the campground and there were roaches everywhere. They give a long list of rules and regulations to follow and tell you how strict they are about you following the rules and will tell you they will kick you out at anytime if you don't follow the rules but they don't take care of the place. Lots of trash. Had to move lots multiple times because electrical wasn't working properly. They had people who mowed that had no regard over vehicles and campers that were there. Loved the location to Downtown Charleston and the closeness of supermarkets and beach too! Clean and quiet campground.

Neat as a pin. Super friendly and attentive management and staff. Easy and organized check in. WELL SHADED EVERYWHERE! Perfect pad sites (which we were on) and the grassy ones used by others were in excellent shape (photo below). Strict dog rules means everyone is respectful and dogs are all on leashes. We brought ours to their dog run - IT'S MASSIVE and in perfect shape and well maintained. Water bowl and water access too! Bath house was large and clean with plenty of hot water. This place is just off 17. Quiet enough given proximity. But less than 100 yards away are gas stations and a Publix. Super Walmart up the road (did not use). The drive into Charleston near end of rush hour was easy peasy with traffic as expected. Although we are easy going travelers, we notice the good and the bad of a place. The fussiest travelers will be very very happy here for short or long term stays. One note: easy access to WIFI but rather slow in evenings when everyone is probably streaming Game of Thrones. :-) You'll read the news well and access email but streaming videos in evening not easy. BUT they have a superbly stocked DVD library at the store!!! We were very very satisfied. read more

Oak Plantation doesn't have a lot of amenities but the location is great if you want to be close to the beach, down town and a few hours away from Savannah. There is a grocery store and lots of restaurants close by. The traffic is crazy at least on Labor Day weekend. The staff is always on hand and enforcing the 10 mph limit. If you're looking for a good location, a clean camp ground, and a quiet nights sleep this is a good place to find it. read more

We stayed at Oak Plantation the last few days of December. We were surprised how full the campground was. Check in was fast and the girl at the front was very friendly and helpful. The sites were large. We have a 40ft DP with 4 slides and we were towing a full sized trailer. No problem fitting into our pull through. The bathrooms were clean. There were rows of trashcans at every street entrance which was great. No stinky dumpsters or holding your trash until the AM. The campground itself is very quiet. We were there New Years Eve and didn't have noise issues. The surrounding roads are loud. We were at the end in Q so we could hear cars and car stereos in our main coach area. We have a white noise machine in the bedroom and that worked well for the street noise. Be prepared for heavy traffic coming and going. The main road is very busy. There are washers/dryer on site but there was a line when we tried to use it. There is a coin laundry across the street. The patrons were a different crowd then what we are used to but nobody paid any attention to us or bothered us. The WiFi worked well. Our roof mounted satellite could not get signal. The campground offers free cable and that worked well. We will stay here again when we are in the area. read more

We had our toad hooked up because we needed to head out early the next morning and were told we needed to pull forward because they had 45's coming in and we were blocking their ability to make the turn. I stayed there in late 2017. I have a 40 ft fifth wheel. I had stayed their prior using a large easy pull thru space in front. My last visit I was assigned a very poor pull through site (Q1) as it required a 90 degree left turn then immediately a 90 degree right turn, too much for a truck and fifth wheel over 60 feet long. I damaged the RV siding on my right side attempting to get in the space assigned causing damage and replacement of 2 panels costing me $1,545 in repairs. I was foolish to accept this site but I did not know it was a bad fit till I got in the back of the campground. Management/attendants used poor judgement in assigning me that Q1 spot without considering my RV size . In the future, if I return I will make my needs known while checking in to avoid another unhappy stay there! The staff member that checked me in seemed indifferent and said I had no reservation or that it was for the wrong date upon check in. I called 3 days prior and gave them my credit card? Perhaps the confusion caused the attendant to put me in a bad space maneuvering wise, but next time if there is one, this buyer will be aware and beware! It was my bad for not complaining! I post this review to save others from my misfortune and to make management aware of their responsibilities to RVers Camping there. When pulling into a new camping area check the space Before pulling in and if not safe have them provide a space that is large enough and wide enough to enter safely. read more

We stayed at Oak Plantation for four nights in October and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a very large park and well laid out. We stayed on two of the full service pull-through sites with concrete pads. Frankly, we consider it to be one of the nicest parks we have ever stayed in. We will be down here often and this will be our first choice. All of the facilities we used were in good shape. We did not use the pool but it's location made sense and it looked like a nice one. There is lots of room to walk your dog and a nice dog run. Many people complain about traffic in the area and they are right - traffic can be a pain. However, that is a reality in the entire Charleston area and it's certainly not the fault of the park. Nor is it a total horror show. When it was extra busy, we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes and there is always someone willing to stop and let you turn left into the park - if you are patient. The only draw back we experienced was slow response from the park staff when we called, and that was obviously because they were slammed. Some persistence may be necessary. Bear in mind - this is a busy, fast growing tourist city with exceptionally low unemployment. A lot of patience and good personal skills will go a long way. read more

This Campground is one of the closest to Charleston. Concrete slabs somewhat broken. Picnic table at each site we have full hookup 50 amp service for 400 dollars a week I think that's a little high priced but as the receptionist said there are only three campgrounds near Charleston so I guess they can charge pretty much what they want . There is a swimming pool here, assuming laundry facilities but haven't seen them yet Garbages are conveniently right near the road. Downside of this Campground very close to Highway 17 difficult getting in and out of the campground especially if you want to turn left. It's Sunday night and the Wi-Fi is excellent don't know what it'll be during the week. so to sum up this park is close to Charleston it has cable and Wifi and full hookup. Somewhat wooded sites. The lots are bad lots for your camper because there's standing water which causes mosquitoes no air conditioning in one of the bath houses and there very old outdated and very very hot the pool is at a very busy road and because of you can't hardly get out of the camp ground because of the excessive traffic and has very few amenities I would not recommend this place read more

We had a nice stay here at this campground. The place is very nice, lots of shady trees and well landscaped grounds. They have a pool and a dog play area that we used everyday to play Frisbee with our dogs, they loved it. The folks at the office were very nice to us during our stay. The only issue they have here is not really caused by the park itself. The location is on a busy highway that gets very backed up due a stop light a few hundred feet down the road. That made it quite difficult to get out on to the road. Hopefully the county will work it out soon. It was an easy dive of about 10 miles to Charleston from the park. It was also possible to get to Folly beach, but the traffic was pretty congested the whole way there. read more

Staff was very helpful over the phone setting up a reservation for us to come in after 11pm. Nice park type atmosphere, lots of trees and pull through spots are all grass covered and mowed. Bath house was very convenient, but the shower stalls need to be cleaned. Not sure if it was a rust problem with the water, mildew or both, but all of the stalls had orange residue on the tiles. This is probably the closest campground to charleston historic district. read more

excellent campground. The staff is courteous, professional and informative. we had originally booked our stay at another campground and it was aweful for some one with a big rig. I called Oak Plantation and their staff was wonderful. we were lucky to get a site. The sites are good sized. The grounds are well maintained. It is close to grocery stores, gas stations and many of the sights that bring you to Charleston. we hope to stay here again when we are in the area. read more

Traveling full-time in a 38-foot coach we stayed 7-nights in a site for big rigs (site #NN1 - Pd $57.71 night) This was our first visit here. We've stayed in over 400 RV Parks and as far as WIFI goes, this RV park places in the Top Ten! We give this park 5-Stars for the fantastic WIFI! Our AT&T phones worked great here too. This park is a small well-maintained family owned park. The owners are very friendly and fantastic hosts. Big coaches need a gravel pad, so we also give this RV Park a 5-star rating for the thick gravel pad. Some RV Parks also have very narrow roads which make backing up very difficult, we found this park to have plenty of room to maneuver our coach. Some RV Parks are so dusty that one has to clean their coach after a stay, but not here, the dust on our coach was very minimal compared to many other parks. Our satellite did receive reception. Plenty of room to walk your dog here. This is a nice place to stay and we recommend it! read more

Nice and clean. Decent size spots. Bath houses were fairly clean and in good condition. The pool was kind of strange because it's on a busy highway but still not bad. We didn't get a chance to check out the pond for fishing. Overall not a bad place and nice and close to our house if you want to do a staycation! read more
