Lots of other activities for kids and adults - walking trails, disc golf course, climbing wall, nature course, dog park, fishing dock, and kayak/sup rentals. The campground is well kept and most sites are great. Beware of the ones that share a driveway if you're going it alone (50/51, 78/79, 124/125, etc). The campground map clearly denotes which ones have shared driveways. Also several sites have a sewer/water/electric hookup right on top of the neighboring site pretty much (119 to 118, for example). Those are not well marked on the map. Firewood at the store is hit or miss, so bring your own if you can. Each site does have a picnic table and fire ring, but the picnic tables are on the older side. Lots of trees all the way around, and there are a few interior sites with concrete pads. Bathhouse and showers are newly renovated and very nicely done. For the adventurous folks, there is also a primitive camping area for tenting on the other side of the overflow parking area behind the RV campground. These have raised tent pads, but no water and electric at the sites. There is also an adjacent group camping area frequently used by the boy scout troops. The campground store is very nice and I always end up spending money on trinkets and souvenirs. If you're going to the Festival of Lights, the shops are right across the street from the campground and very easy to walk to. This makes it super easy to buy ornaments before the shops get crowded and get train tickets before they sell out. 4 stars instead of 5 for just a few drawbacks. One, because football season is rough there. No cable, no TVs anywhere in the park to go watch the games, and digital antenna picks up only the most basic channels. The wi-fi at the campground store is good but only if you're standing in the store. Even a few RV spots away, you'll need a satellite with you to get your favorite football games. Also, some of the camping spots within our group needed a little TLC. The ash in the firepit from the previous guest was all the way up to the rim, leaving us to do the cleanup work. Campground staff was zooming around on their golf carts at way too fast speeds, making us nervous with our kids trying to ride their bikes. For the price we paid, it was very good but not great - a hard packed dirt spot with no cable/wi-fi and a sewer line at our neighboor's back door.

There are wooded spots and more manicured spots for RVs. They also have space for primitive camping, groups, and fully equipped cottages. The staff here is absolutely wonderful. Everyone is friendly and very helpful. F and I arrived late in Friday night, but there is a park ranger available after hours to let you in and guide you to your spot. The evenings are quiet after 10pm. It is family oriented and dog friendly too. We were more interested in getting into Charleston on Sunday and Uber picks up right by the general store all the time. This is really a lovely spot with lots to do.

The primitive sites are first come first serve, but there is a large overflow field just before the campground. It is also the start of the Awendaw passage of the Palmetto Trail which is really pretty once you get farther into it and there are quite a few marsh views. Overnight parking is cheap in the overflow area if you wanted to park and hike into the trail for some dispersed camping. It's probably the most tame camping spot in the national forest.

The company also run various canoe and kayak tours, which have been a bit of a nightmare for me. The Lowcountry wetlands are fantastic and demand to be experienced close up, and many of the tour options sound great. They run quite infrequently, and even when offered, have been unreliable in my experience. To some extent, this can be attributed to weather and varying demand, which is a hassle but is part of the business. Wisely, they don't actually charge you money until you are actually at your tour doing stuff. However, I haven't forgiven them for the one time I made an online reservation at the last minute only to drive to a site at 6 AM and find the tour was canceled, with no one around to answer the phone and an active listing still on their website. They were apologetic, but didn't really do much for me. When tours are unavailable, I keep getting calls asking me to reschedule for another day, which strikes me as tone-deaf. There may be a market of people who hang around waiting for a midweek spot to open up, but I would think that many of us are tourists who aren't there for very long (I'm rarely in Charleston for more than 48 hours, and it takes a lot for me to get there at all), and even the locals I assume must have jobs. If I scheduled for X day, I probably want to do something on X day. What's also irritating is that their website, while flashy, doesn't have a calendar. You have to search through a dozen infrequently offered niche tours to see if you can find something that's available when you're available rather than just seeing what is launching on the day that you're around and free. They really don't seem to get my needs in that regard. When I finally, after frankly a year of trying, found a kayak tour that actually fit my schedule, it was beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, and some hard work. Wildlife abounds, and my trip through the Kiawah River area yielded sightings - albeit sometimes fleeting ones - of everything from a roseate spoonbill to a dolphin trapping fish against an oyster bar. The people running the tours and the equipment are good enough, and while these things aren't cheap I still leave a tip. The scenery delivers, but this tour company hasn't always met my expectations. I'm just not aware of anyone else that gives you the same chance to see this particular environment.

It was a Sunday morning (March 6th) and a last minute thought, so I called the number instead of using the online booking. The message said they were busy and to use the online booking service on their website. I then placed a request for later that day and waited for a confirmation or rejection. It is good we were not waiting at the helo pad, because I received the rejection of the request over 48 hours later (Wednesday afternoon of March 8th) with an explanation that is was "Past Date" as if I did not have access to a calendar. I am not advocating that every business has to be open for every whim of a customer however, if your site conveys that the business is in operation, then they should definitely act like they are open, even if to say we can't accommodate your request. Credit where it is due: they did not charge my credit card.

Currently Free to enjoy. Even now as a small park it is a great place to come and learn about the convent and all its rich history. If you are looking for one of the best views of the bridge, this is it. A quiet and relaxing atmosphere just adds the the draw to come and relax by the harbor. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and great resources to learning. Definitely recommend bringing a picnic lunch and stopping by to enjoy the scenery, peace and quiet.

This is a new park. As signage inside indicates, this land apparently belonged to some sort of…read morereligious institution and was recently bought by the state. They are converting it into an event space, which hasn't really started yet, so outside of some restrooms the building is blocked off as if anyone who walked through it was in mortal danger. They describe the current status of the park as a "soft opening", during which one can utilize the outdoor areas for picnic space and such. And when you get a look at them, you'll see why. This plot of land has splendid views looking out over the harbor, where the Ravenel bridge, Fort Sumter, and the city itself can be viewed clearly. The waterside is grassy, but you can walk along it for a bit and there was an enormous population of small crabs to watch skittering around. There were several different spaces to sit with this view, including a gazebo with a screen around it if you are concerned about bugs (which were not a huge issue when I dropped in, but I'm sure they are some of the time). There is no charge to get in, and while it's not an especially happening place, it's good that this land has opened up for public use.

The coach was comfortable and clean and the driver was courteous and careful. There is a bathroom at the rear of the coach. There were several members of our group who required walkers and wheelchairs and the driver was very gracious and assisted those with mobility issues. We look forward to hiring Midway Tours in the future.
