I went here on Valentine's day. It was ridiculously expensive but not surprising considering it was Valentine's day so it is fine. The food was very high quality and delicious! They give you a lot of different dishes that were widely variable. The menu is small but the quality makes up for it. I do recommend this spot to grab a drink and a quick meal. The staff was kind, we could tell our server wanted us to order more food and get drinks. We aren't the type to get drinks usually, just water. But, with his persuasion we got a non-alcoholic mojito. We tried the raw oysters (super fresh), the Saffron Cavatelli (just the right amount of heat and a layered, complex flavor), the Gnocchi Rosa, and the Chocolate Budino for dessert (which was yummy enough that we ordered a second helping). Reading through the reviews from others again, I can see why it has taken me ten years to get here - they are all over the map! We stopped by around 3 p.m. on a Saturday, craving pizza and unwilling to wait on line with drunk Santas (Santa Con). Attractive space, fun soundtrack, great service, interesting wines by the glass, tasty chopped salad and FANTASTIC pizza. Seriously, what a crust! Flavorful sauce, just enough cheese, basil that tasted like basil, and high quality anchovies all added up to one of the best Naples style pizzas I have had in the city. Prices the same as everywhere else - namely, ridiculous ($100 for a small pie, generous salad and two glasses of wine), but at least the quality was there. I can't speak to the pastas or anything else on the menu, and I am not sure what the vibe would be like on a Saturday night for dinner (boy are those tables close together), but I am sorry I waited so long to try that pie! read more

If you like the modern incarnation of boom-bap hip hop, this is the probably the best restaurant in NYC to listen to it. As far as food goes, the small menu at Charlie Bird features a few authentic and delicious pasta dishes. The razor clam appetizer, which photographs well, needs improvement. Rather than making my family fork the little chunks off the half shell with the hope that they used the tangy garnish, I'd employ a binding agent and blend things better. It's awkward to eat and the clam doesn't have enough flavor to stand on its own. The fried chicken app is good. Another reviewer called it "frozen chicken nuggets" which, I assure you, it's not. For $24, it's a substantial amount of chicken. What ruined the vibe for me here is that the restaurant allowed a dog inside. The dog urinated on the floor while the couple that brought it was humble-bragging to their friends that they pay $8k per month in rent. A staff member had to kneel on the floor and wipe up the urine while someone in the party said "oh, I'm sorry." Then, staff had to engage in mandatory dog talk where they let the couple know that they loved dogs. The couple made no attempt to help, not even the token effort to take the animal outside. Repulsive behavior showcasing how out-of-control dog culture has become. read more

Such a good meal I'm stuffed! We ordered so much food and I couldnt be happier because everything was amazing. We got the heirloom crustinis, tuscan fried chicken, gnocchi, tagliatelle, and eggplant. For our pastas we got the eggplant agnolotti, sausage rigatoni and cacio e pepe. All 3 pastas were good but for their price were quite small portions as some other reviewers have mentioned. The agnolotti was perhaps the most unique and not overpowered by eggplant. The cacio e pepe was nicely al dente and the sausage rigatoni even had a bit of a kick to it. We finished with the cake/gelato which was also good but again very tiny. While we enjoyed all our dishes we left kind of hungry and given how many nice Italian places there are in the village I don't think I'd necessarily come back but worth trying once. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch after a couple of hours of shopping in Soho. This was my girlfriend's first restaurant meal after recovering from a stomach bug, so we certainly took a risk, but were pleasantly surprised. The service was very quick and the food was great. We sat indoors by the pretty bar and shared two glasses of orange wine. We ordered the artichoke as an appetizer. It was juicy but somewhat chewy (as one would expect). For $20 this should at least have been a breast or a thigh not chicken nuggets sprinkled with rosemary. Cacio E Pepe - Basically the only thing during our experience which was decent Hangar Steak - came with chili oil (which I could admit I may have missed that on the menu description) but it was under salted, maybe because they expected us to coat it in chili oil? Ambiance - We sat outside and it was a hot day during the evening but it wasn't so much the heat that bothered us as compared to the loud hip hop music on repeat. I have no problem listening to hip hop but during a casual dinner with no where to hide from the speakers whether you're inside or out? No thanks. Very fresh and a good size. The focaccia bread was phenomenal. Needs a larger portion. Roasted cauliflower was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Both pasta dishes were quite good. I came to Charlie Bird for a friends birthday so we managed to order a bunch of apps to share. The one outstanding dish for me was the farro salad with bits of pistachio. Overall the food was good but not memorable. Most of us got pasta as a main and I wish I had gotten a protein of sort instead. My favorite of the 3 pastas we ordered is the triangoli. That said, service is very friendly and would still come again if In the area. I reckon the outdoor seating will be very popular in the summer given how nicely decorated and instagrammable it looks! We had brunch reservations for indoor dining, but due to the beautiful weather day of, we decided to dine outside in their gorgeous outdoor seating area. Not that it makes a difference to us, but it was a bit of a surprise when they still required to see our vaccination cards to dine outside! The menu for brunch is quite simple and short. It would have been nice to be offered a few for brunch style dishes besides just a frittata and whole grain pancakes. We started off with the oysters and burrata, and both ended up ordering pasta as our main. The oysters were delicious! The vinaigrette that it comes with was really good too. The local burrata was so creamy and perfect! Great pairing with the squash and toasted bread. As for pasta, we ordered the bolognese and the carbonara. The bolognese was a bit light and lacked a little flavor in my opinion, but the carbonara was absolutely delicious! I could have ate another plate of that! I would have loved to order a side of the Tuscan fried chicken, but $21 seemed a bit too steep for a "side" so we decided not to go with that option. Had a truly wonderful experience here all around. We had an earlier dinner here over Memorial Day weekend so it wasn't too crowded which was really nice, and had the back corner table to ourselves. We ordered the fried chicken and fries to share, two cacio e pepes, one gnocchi, and one tagliatelle - everything was incredible. One star of the show was the free focaccia they brought out, it already had a drizzle of olive oil and some rosemary and flaky salt on it. Truly, I think it's the best free bread I've ever gotten at a restaurant and I would go back again just for that. The fried chicken and fries were also really good and perfect for us to share before our pastas came out. The thing that really struck me about my experience here was the service. Our waiter asked if we had any allergies, and I mentioned my peanut allergy (because I could see this being the kind of place to use peanut oil for their fried foods). He asked if I'm also allergic to tree nuts, and I explained that I am allergic to some but typically avoid all due to cross contamination. He then asked if pink peppercorn was okay, because that comes on the cacio e pepe and is actually part of the tree nut family. I had no idea, and they left it off to be safe which I greatly appreciated. It was a small interaction, but that level of attention and casual precaution is something I've rarely experienced and won't soon forget. After that, it was truly just the cherry on top that the food was amazing. I would come back here in a heartbeat, and will certainly be recommending it to friends and family. read more

Be wary though, we went when it was raining and could feel a few drops coming in. We had to move our table over slightly. The music they played here was fantastic though! The food was great too. My personal favorites were the Tuscan Fried Chicken and Fries to share with the table. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe -- nothing special, just the usual, safe option. The portion size was great for this. Chef Hardy has made me love vegetables that I haven't eaten in years- and it is one of the few places I would even order the chicken! For a 6:45 reservation (I arrived 6:44pm), we didn't receive our entrees until 9:40 (I took photos of my watch)... and at that point we decided to take our food to go and request the check, for fear of a future delay. The portions for the pasta dishes were surprisingly small compared to the plate sizes, and the pasta came out lukewarm and short of al dente (edit: I almost forgot that my Cavatelli came out with a bug crawling in it, but after 1.5 hours I just squished it and carried on). The Hangar steak was served medium rare (which is fine, but probably not for others) without asking for how I wanted it cooked, and rather than the fingerling potatoes as advertised, I was served a plate with fries without an explanation an hour later for the shortage of potatoes. If I knew I would receive another platter of fries, I would have cancelled the dish or cancelled the fries we had finished over an hour prior. They also forgot about the Jimmy Nadello peppers we ordered for the table as an appetizer (table of 2), which arrived at 9:40 as well. Embarrassing service, slow and inadequate for all the tables seated nearby and the number of staff versus leftover patrons past 9pm. No updates from the servers on the wait from the kitchen, barely any attention to refilling of water or other needs. Most disappointing, the food was mediocre. More was expected after receiving quality selection on JetBlue Mint flights. I didn't mind the music or vibe (I enjoy Nas, Rick Ross, Lauryn Hill), but I can believe previous reviews that complain about the volume and genres. It was quite loud in the restroom, we didn't have a problem as we were sitting outside on the patio.
