Charlie Clark's is an historic steakhouse in Pinetop-Lakeside. We came here with friends last Friday. We were seated around 5 PM and the place filled up quickly. My wife had the BBQ chicken and she loved it. I had the prime rib. I asked for ground horseradish and the server brought it out with the drinks. I order my prime rib medium and got an, at most, medium rare (pink from edge to edge). Service was good, but not outstanding. It felt like they're working on getting customers in and out quickly. We attended the High Country Art Festival in July 2026. The venue "Charlie Clark's" bans outside containers -- fine, we get that. But they actually banned baby bottles and sippy cups too. No water or milk for babies, no exceptions. Two ladies at the entrance were seriously enforcing this -- checking for visible bottles and turning them away -- while purses and backpacks went completely unsearched. So the "rule" only caught parents who weren't hiding anything. Once inside, there wasn't even an alternative: no cups suitable for kids anywhere. Think about what that actually means -- infants and toddlers going without water or milk in July heat, at an outdoor festival, because of a rule meant to stop outside soda or alcohol so Charlie Clarks's can make more money. That's not a minor inconvenience, that's a real safety risk. This policy needed about five seconds more thought before it was implemented. Fix this before another Charlie Clark event! read more

We visited the White Mountains and stopped off at one of my favorite spots when I'm up here. Charlie Clark's. We came in rt opening time. So, it was just me and my GF and the staff. Tara was our bartender and she was great and filled us in on all the town gossip and some history behind Charlie Clark's Steakhouse. I made the sashimi peppers..and the French Dip and my GF had the Tri Tip Tacos.. ... Pretty good sandwich and peppers. I have only eaten there for dinner so this was a different experience. Always enjoy visiting Charlie's.. And Tara gave us some Cousy's from Charlie's Wedding Anniversary.. So, if you're ever in the white Mountain stop off at Charlie Clark steakhouse you won't be disappointed. FYI, they don't open for dinner until four bar opens at 11 AM. read more

Had dinner here last night. There is a bar area and the restaurant area. We set in the main restaurant area because the bar had loud music and smelled of cigarettes. The hostess was not friendly at all, however, when seated a very friendly server came up to us and took our order. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and it has a big menu. We ordered steamed mussels to start with and they were great. Very tasty and creamy broth that we couldn't get enough of. Then we split an order of beef ribs and they were cooked to perfection with an amazing bbq sauce and baked potato which was served with butter, sour cream and chives. One order is more than enough for two people. For dessert we got their apple cobbler à la mode. It was spectacular! read more

In the pinetop area if you are looking for a good family steakhouse you might want to give Charlie Clark''s a try. Food won't be out of this world but the overall ambiance and service fills some of the gaps. It's a bit pricy but what you can expect in the area. We went for Thanksgiving and they offered their full regular menu on top of a turkey special. One of my biggest pet peeves, not one mention of service charge included. At least we had an itemized check and this was visible. At the end of the day it's still a cool local establishment to enjoy the evening to hang out pressure free. read more

In a small town restaurant, allegedly this location is one of the best place to eat steak, so we obviously had to try it out ourselves. Restaurant opens at 4.30pm and we got there around 4.15pm which may seem early for dinner, but everything in this town closes early, so having an early dinner is normal... right ? I guess. But glad we did to enjoy the remainder of our night. The restaurant theme is nostalgic with their Coyboy theme decors, and their server was good and attentive, but did get our order incorrect... but it turned out great Prime rib- 3.7/5- the prime rib was good, but definitely lacking seasoning to make it great. Could've use more salt, mustard, even some aromatics from cooking with rosemary vs. putting it on for display. Rib eye- 5/5 -originally we ordered the bone-in rib eye, but obviously when it came out the was no bone and the server noted it was the center cut. When I am in Pinetop, I like to visit Charlie Clark's. It can be very busy, so we get there before the Early Bird disappears. We arrived about 5:30 and there was a half hour wait for the dining room. The bar has full service, so we sat there at a small high top table. My friend ordered the Stroganoff Early Bird special and I ordered the Prime Rib Monday night special. The EB version of Prime Rib was 6 oz for $30 and the Monday night special was 10 oz for $28. Go figure. Our server, Lila, told me about it so I went with the bigger portion. She also checked on us appropriately. Food was delicious. Prime rib was cooked medium rare, had a salad and baked potato. My friend's stroganoff was great and she took quite a bit home. My only complaints are the high top table was so small (but to be fair, other larger tables weren't available at the time) and the noise in the bar. The food came out fairly quickly and was hot and delicious. Again, no photos, we were hungry and I forgot. The price was reasonable. Prime $28, Stroganoff $21, iced tea $3.75. We got to our table no utensils or napkins given ordered our drinks and a few minutes later our food.we were supposed to get bread with our meal which is included in the price. The waitress brought our salads out with a fork but still no utensils or napkins. I went and asked for some and they said they didn't have any. That they will bring us some. We waited still nothing we sat there watching other people that were being seated get their utensils and napkins. We get our meal and still no utensils. Waitress paid us no mind. We asked another lady for utensils and she brought them quickly. We still never got the bread and the waitress brought our check. I complained about being charged for the bread and they ONLY took $3.00 off our check. They host an art fair outside. open entering two ladies wearing art badges said we could not enter with our water containers. they claimed this was due to Arizona liquor laws.? We offered to pour out our containers then refill with water from within the even and they said those containers were not allowed at all due to liquor license. The photos below were taken through the fence when leaving the event showing those containers were allowed for others. I spoke with the supposed owner of Charlie's and pointed out several people who also had hydro flasks within the event. he acted like he could not see them. I took several photos through the fence showing larder closed hydro flasks at booth for the vendors. They then threatened to call the police because I called out their hypocrisy. Went on a Thursday at 6:45 and there were already 15 people waiting for inside seating but we grabbed table on the enclosed patio which was loud at times since it was right next to a busy street. My wife loved her BBQ chicken and my prime rib was perfectly cooked. The waitress (Lucky 13 Sabrina) was efficient and servings were well-timed. Alcohol was very reasonably priced. We love their ribeyes, beef ribs, prime rib, you name it, it is delicious and you get a lot for your money there. Service is always good too, they have happy employees. If you want a drink, the bar is pleasant and seems to have the regulars that enjoy each others company watching TV or playing pool. My husband and I remembered having an excellent dining experience at Charlie Clark's more than a decade ago, so we decided to return. Unfortunately, this visit was a major disappointment. We arrived in time for the advertised "Early Bird" specials, which turned out to be no bargain at all--unless you consider $1 off the regular price a bargain. The service was poor from start to finish. We had to wait for cutlery and napkins, and when our meals finally arrived, my husband's steak was cooked far beyond the medium-well level he ordered. The server had specifically explained that medium well should have "a streak of pink," but this steak had none. In fact, it was so overcooked that it was approaching jerky consistency. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, the response was essentially, "That's the cook's mistake, not my problem." After waiting nearly an hour for the original meal, we certainly weren't going to send it back and wait again. At a minimum, a discount or even an offer of complimentary dessert would have been an appropriate gesture. Neither was offered. Our "Early Bird" dinner--including two light beers and an iced tea--came to nearly $80, including a 20% tip, which seemed outrageously expensive given the substandard service and food quality. Our visit was on a Sunday evening so it wasn't too busy. Good thing considering how slow they were. 2 hours! Yeah, two hours! The place was filthy! The floor looked like it hadn't seen a mop since they first opened and our table was almost as bad! I ordered Top Sirloin & Shrimp, with a baked potato. Other than being cold and a "child's plate", the food was OK. Not great, just OK. 4 shrimp, a six ounce steak, and medium baked potato shouldn't cost $38.00! I can easily afford to take my family out anywhere, but this was really pathetic. I'd be embarrassed to serve that! Oh, my "salad" was iceberg lettuce that was already limp and turning brown with two bitter cherry tomatoes. I didn't know tomatoes could be bitter! We saw our waitress a total of three times. Once to begin taking our order, then to leave in the middle for some emergency elsewhere. About 30 minutes later, she returned with our drinks and had the nerve to ask... "Now, where were we?" No less than an hour later someone else showed up with our cold food. After about two hours I was able to flag down our "waitress" for the bill. That part was actually pretty quick. It's extremely rare when I leave a bad review. Especially at a restaurant. We go out quite often and see the abuse that service staff endure. I couldn't do their jobs so I have much respect for those who can. Having said that, I see this place in a death spiral. The current staff is killing it. It's too bad too. It has the potential to be great. Considering how long it has been there, it must have been good at some point. Unfortunately it seems those days are past. If you plan on visiting, make sure that your Tetnis shot is current and bring some hand sanitizer. read more

We were there during lunch & it was not busy but to be expected especially in January on a Thursday. It's your typical bar setting with music playing & sports on the tv. Our server was friendly & polite providing excellent customer service. Hubby ordered the ribeye which was delicious, perfectly cooked & seasoned. I ordered the pastrami sandwich with tater tots, the serving size was huge with plenty of meat. I didn't care for the honey mustard & would have preferred spicy brown or yellow mustard instead but that's me. Our friends had the sirloin steak & prime rib sandwich both with tater tots & both were perfectly cooked/seasoned. Everything was delicious & absolutely worth the beautiful drive. First time sitting at the bar to eat, you almost have lean into the bar top as the foot bar is like a foot away from the bar. My second complaint was that the baby back ribs, very dry. It was a Thursday afternoon around 4:30. It was pretty crowded with a 45-min wait so we chose to look in the bar for a table. There was a couple sitting at two square tables (a four-seater) pushed together to make a 6-top so we asked one of the waitresses if we could pull apart the tables and sit at it? She said that was fine, as long as it was fine with the couple sitting at the table. After checking with them, and getting their blessing, we divided the tables and sat down. Our waitress came out and said we were not allowed to do that. No problem, we were willing to move as the table next to us was just about to open up. She suddenly said to wait, she would check with her manager. He gave his blessing for "just this one time," so we stayed. She asked us to wait a few minutes while she brought out food. Seventeen minutes later, she came back with water and asked if we were ready to order. We didn't have menus. She ran to get them, then came back to take our order. Having food allergies, I had questions, she didn't know the answers so she had to run back to the kitchen to ask. At this point, her face indicated she wasn't too happy with us and we contemplated leaving. We decided she was probably just hurried between her five tables so we just tried to have some patience. We made our order and it came after the two tables near us, got their food. We overlooked the fact that both of these tables were not only sat after us, but our food order was taken before theirs. My husband enjoyed his BBQ chicken but said it was a little dry. My prime rib was pretty much one of the worst I've ever had. I asked for it medium-rare. It came done. Zero pink in the middle. That made sense considering how thin it was. What was worse was it was CAKED in Lawry's seasoning salt. If a steak is good, it needs no seasoning, but for it to be layered in seasoning...no. I scraped off what I could, ate what I could but the whole interaction left me frustrated. Charlie Clark's is a staple in this community! It definitely has a small town, dive bar type of feel to it. There is a restaurant and a separate bar area with a stage. The fresh baked bread and butter is a must ! It's hard not to eat the entire loaf before the food comes out! I ordered the steak medium rare with veggies and a side salad. My mom got the fish. Unfortunately my steak was way over cooked. The seasoning was great and I really loved the veggies and side salad. The fish was yummy but my mom said the description makes it seem like there will be a sauce on top. I liked it just fine. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. This place was pretty highly rated but for me it was a miss. When you walk in the decor is really cool, there is a display when you enter the dining room of some vintage firearms which is cool. I ordered the early bird prime rib with loaded baked potato. The baked potato was great, however the prime rib had way to much fat and gristle and really wasn't that appealing. Some of the others I was with had good steaks, but for me the meat just wasn't there. Our waiter was good but not stealler, I had to ask for more tea and he took quite awhile to bring us our bills. And for the love of God...Please do not order a desert, unless you don't mind the smell of a refrigerator and other foods in it, I would STRONGLY take a hard pass. All in all!? We stopped in here to celebrate my birthday because the reviews were so good and it's always fun to visit a place that's been in business for such a long time that it's historic. We entered through the bar and I got a whiskey and coke while we waited for the dining room to open. It was good and strong just how I like it. I got a 6oz steak medium rare with a baked potato with butter and sour cream and an apple cobbler a la mode for my birthday dessert. The steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The baked potato was nothing special but it was cooked well. The dessert was really good though had just a touch too much nutmeg. Our server Misty was fantastic and the rest of floor staff was also great at keeping us taken care of and our table clear. The restaurant was also very clean and well lit. We have been driving by this place for years have always wanted to go but being on vacation for a quick weekend with family it never really worked out. However this time we had the time, so we waited over an hour for a table of 9 which we understood Friday night in the summer large party. The restaurant is huge and they only use about 1/2 most likely due to short staff. We were seated in this back table the was very private and secluded which we thought was great however we quickly found out we were in no man's land out of site out of mind. Once we were served appetizers we waited a while before we had to seek out a nice older bus woman she was so sweet and brought us silverware and plates service was very very slow, which we kept saying they r busy but it was just horrible all around. We got prime rib which we were charged for splitting the plate but had to ask several times just to get an extra plate. Alfredo chicken which the Alfredo was lumpy and clumpy and the waiter never came back till we were done and tired of waiting. Three additional steaks and fried Mac n cheese. The food was probably equal to an Applebees but that's being generous. We then had to look for the waiter to get the bill but was nice enough to ask if we wanted desert to which declined. read more

Went for Christmas dinner with my family and my brother's family, making 6 adults and 4 kids. We were able to be seated in a back semi-private nook which made for a relaxing experience. Our waitress was a bit overwhelmed given how busy they were but she was very upfront about the wait which helped us set our expectations. Food was absolutely excellent. The artichoke appetizer was excellent. Unfortunately they were out of ribs (it was only 6pm) so this seemed like a bit of poor planning on our end. It was first come first serve seating, talked to some people leaving and were ready to sit when a very rude bar waitress said it was a table she saved for someone and we had too many people. We informed her we just wanted a couple of drinks while we were waiting for dinner table and she said no again, we had too many people, same number as previous customers. I don't think I have ever been treated as rudely as this lady treated us at a restaurant/bar. We left and got pizza. I realize it was a busy weekend but she could have nicely told us regulars trump visitors and we don't want your business. I hated taking a table up for just me, but the staff were so welcoming and assured me it's no problem. "May" was my waitress and she was very attentive. I ordered the 10oz prime rib dinner w/ French onion soup and garlic parmesan oil to pour on to my prime rib. WOW, talk about next level. Loved my visit there and definitely wanted to give a review.
