Wow! We stopped by here on our way back from camping and we were NOT disappointed! The host & server/bartender were super friendly and checked on us frequently. Our meal came with chips and fresh salsa. We order the beef fajitas and they were SO good!! Very flavorful & hot with a huge portion (we split it between the two of us). The cheese crispy was also huge, delicious, and perfectly crispy. We used some of the slices as our fajita tortillas when we ran out of flour tortillas lol. The city power went out while we were there and even then the staff was calm, attentive, and helpful. I was very impressed by how they handled everything. I have my regular spots in Pinetop and this is added to my must-visits. The salsa is tasty, the beer is a-flowin, and the service is great. The added bonus is the decor, which is elevated yet authentic. I love that they show the Spanish-speaking music videos. My reason for 4 stars is that I want them to turn up the dial 3 levels in terms of heat. Spicier, please. The food is incredible but please don't be scared to smoke us out. What a beautiful decorated Mexican restaurant! Lots of bright colors & fun decor! ALL the staff was super friendly & attentive too! Food was hot & AMAZING! First of all, the ambience is really nice. It's a large open space that's attractively decorated. The chips and salsa were an excellent start. Fresh tasting and a salsa that doesn't taste like it comes from a can. Although the food isn't that spicy, it has more spicing than other places on the mountain. The menu is extensive with a lot of seafood on it. I steered away from the seafood as these mountains are far from the sea, and we tried some traditional fair. The quesobirria taco plate was delicious; good quality tortillas, meat, and flavorful consume. My partner had the chorizo burrito which he enjoyed, although the spice level was low. It is by far the best Mexican food in Pinetop. We will definitely be back. read more

Took a weekend trip up to the White Mountains and decided to check out the newly open El Charro. We got there 30min before they closed so it wasn't very crowded. We were greeted quickly and given our table. There's outside and inside seating options with bar seating as well. Plenty of long tables as well if you're in a large group. Service was excellent, we had our drinks with chips & salsa within 30 seconds and food ordered within 5min. I got the chile verde burrito with a double side of refried beans (cause I MUST taste them). It was amazing! I really like this spot and the salsa options were both great. Impressed. The quesadillas are the size of manhole covers! Delicious! My husband and I both ordered rib eye steaks. Cooked and seasoned perfectly! Hubs & I have been frequenting the El Charro Beer in Show Low for quite some time. I've never had a bad meal there. When we saw they were opening a place in Pinetop, we couldn't wait. (plus it's closer for us). Our first time at the new location, our server happened to be the young lady who was the hostess at the SL location. She recognized us and we chatted it up. This restaurant is beautiful! It looked like no expense was spared. I ordered a dish I had had in SL several times. Same dish. Same taste. It was yummy. Of course, Mexican food is subjective. What I might enjoy, you might not. The service was great. The food was great. My only complaint.... the lady who makes the tortillas is Show Low is staying in Show Low. Her tortillas are phenomenal! The seafood enchiladas were supposed to have shrimp, crab & scallops. There were a few shrimp, No Scallops, and the "crab" was the consistency of penne pasta. The food was very , very good. I shared a chicken fajita serving with my wife. The server was wonderful, and, it turns out she is a member of the family that owns the restaurant. This is a really good thing! The owner hails from Michoacán, Mexico, and the menu features a lot of varied dishes. This may be wonderful border food sprinkled with some very interesting seafood dishes, however, I'm coming back for the pork chili verde-and soon. Muy, muy bueno!! read more

Theresa was our waitress- she is amazing ANd hilarious!!!! I would come back just to have her as our waitress again! :). Keep her- it's hard to find quality service. Also I LOVED the ambiance here! The style inside is similar to my style and I wants to just make that decor ALL mine! I mean, I'm speechless and soo impressed with the vibe this place had! I couldn't stop looking at everything hanging on the ceilings and the shelving, walls etc. it was stunning in there AND family friendly! Cool statues out front too! Food still has some kinks- but I'd recommend the cheese dip. Also things were a bit slow but they're new, There is an adjustment period there. They have trap much potential so I hope things come together smoothly for them soon. We saw a guy being a jerk as we were being sat- he made a huge scene. I personally was happy to be there! :) Thanks for the great service Theresa!! You're an amazing young lady- keep it up!! Amazing new location in Pinetop. Best Mexican food on the mountain (SL & PT) . Great ambience. Anyone saying otherwise is probably disgruntled competition. Yes, as with any new restaurant they will have some wrinkles to iron out, but be patient- they opened up in high season and getting slammed. This location opened in May 2025. We had been to El Charro in Show Low and really enjoyed it. We decided to try their new location in Pinetop. The new restaurant is absolutely beautiful! Please see my video below. I love the authentic decor and the hand painted booths were absolutely gorgeous! The service was fantastic. Catherine was our server. She made great recommendations and was very friendly. She told us about the decor in the restaurant and how they went into the woods looking for just the right branches to utilize for some of the design touches. I wasn't super hungry so we split a green chili cheese crisp. It was the best cheese crisp I've tasted. It was a large flour tortilla topped with lots of cheese and garnished with freshly roasted green chili. Catherine informed us that they roast the green chilies fresh every day. We then tried the chili Verde Burrito. It was large and had a lot of meat inside. It was served with beans and rice and a bit of chopped vegetable garnish. The decor in this restaurant is beautiful! Well above normal standards in this area. We went today for lunch and ordered the lunch special which was 2 enchiladas, beans & rice. We each ordered a cheese enchilada and a ground beef and shredded beef. All were very good and the beans are rice were very tasty and perfectly spiced. The house margarita was delicious. It was a nice serving so we only needed one with our meals. The chips and salsa were fresh The bartender was super helpful, pleasant and timely. I don't know where to begin. The chips and salsa, one of the best salsas I've ever had. Even took some home it was that good. Large margaritas that were fantastic! It left me all warm and fuzzy inside. And everything we ordered was yummy. But the best part was the service by beautiful Kathleen and her gorgeous daughter. Plus, everyone else helped out! We felt pampered. And left happy with very full bellies AND leftovers! The restaurant looks great and I it's now our go to place in the mntns. The restaurant opened too soon. My husband and I asked for an alcohol list. They didn't have enough one... I ordered a combination of Flautas and Chili Relleno. The beans and rice that were included with the combo were ice cold. Really? When we received the check, there was a 3.5% upcharge for using a debit card with no forewarning. The waiter made up a bull crap excuse about how we were in Pinetop as opposed to Show Low. I say bull crap. I say the ambiance is nice and the waiter was great. The service was great. We came for lunch at about 11:30. Food came out hot and fast: generous portions. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. It's a lovely restaurant. The ambiance is wonderful. I did what I always do when trying a New Mexican restaurant and ordered a 3 item combo plate. Unfortunately, for me a was very disappointed... there was no spice in any of my items including the salsa! Even their house beer was bland. The Margarita looked wonderful. My dining partners were not as disappointed. Will I go back? Probably. The menu is quite large so I will pursue it more closely. read more
