I went into Smoking Gun Armory this afternoon due to the high volume of positive reviews to simply…read moretry to accomplish two things: see if they do gun trade in/purchases and if they had a specific rifle available. Upon entering, there were two female employees (one who was apparently new and the other was the "manager") and a single customer. A male non-employee who was apparently a distributor that was there often and provided stock to the shop was also there. Out of all three people there that were not a customer, he, ironically, was the one that attended me, engaged me in conversation, and treated me like a customer. The manager began to bounce back and forth between me and the customer whom she had apparently been attended but was never able to answer my questions related to the weapons sale or the availability of the rifle I wanted. Ultimately, she declared she didn't know anything about the rifle I was selling (an FN PS90) and had to text the owner who "knows all about this stuff". Ultimately, she told me the owner didn't want to buy it as it was apparently "niche" and offered to consign for 1100, approximately 300-400 less than comparable used weapon sales online and what was quoted to me from two other local shops. Ironically, she stated "I don't want to lowball you" before immediately doing that. I declined to consign with them due to the fact I have zero confidence in her ability to sell A weapon she admitted knowing nothing about. To make matters worse, she tried to sell me the rifle I wanted for $400 more than what it was listed on their own website, then claimed the online price was the military price (what?!?) and then failed to understand I had a Trust set up (it's a suppressed SBR) that wasn't through Silencerco. (Yes, other places can establish trusts *eyeroll*) Then she told me to start filling out ATF forms that she had the distributor guy print out for her because she didn't know how to pull them up on her own system to print them with the intention of having me fill them out...before I even agreed to buy the rifle. She never asked me what I was looking for, why I wanted that type of rifle or that rifle to begin with, nothing. No alternatives, and never answered my questions on payment options or required down payments to order the weapon since she also didn't know if it was "in the warehouse" or they needed to order it from elsewhere. I was just supposed to "give us the money and we order it". In the hundreds of gun shops around the country I've been in, I've never seen this level of unprofessionalism, disjointed and absent customer service, and an absolute self admitted, overt lack of firearms knowledge and expertise from someone who is supposed to be the manager of a gun shop. Anyone can have a bad day, but employing people who don't know about guns or customer service to run a gun shop is the epitome of institutional apathy. I was fully prepared to spend $2500+ today at that gun shop regardless of my rifle sale. I will not be going back nor will I be advising anyone I know to go.
