Oh my goodness! This review is long overdue to share with y'all what an amazing experience we had at Charlie's on Main. We were in town staying with some friends in Boxford for our son's graduation at Tufts. We chanced upon this little pizzeria one drizzly day and decided to give it a shot. I believe it was the house special pizza we ordered with everything on it. I asked for it well done and it arrived hot and crispy to perfection with an abundance of toppings. Yummy! But food aside, what makes this a stand-out place was the personalized service we got from Charlie himself. He came by to chat with us, ask how everything was and found out we were not local. We learned that he grew up near Tufts in Somerville and he told us about his family, his fine dining experience and about the fire that caused them to move to this new location. In just a short amount of time we had bonded. He brought out his wife to say hi and blew a kiss to his grown son as he left the pizzeria. He invited us to bring the rest of our family back when they flew in so he could make us a nice dinner together, and brought us a complimentary decadent slice of cheesecake. And oh my was it was ever decadent! You could just tell what an upstanding man Charlie was and what a passion he has for his business. Charlie's on Main is the type of family and community restaurant where Charlie knows all of his customers by name. In this world of hustle and bustle that indeed is a rare and beautiful thing and Charlie's is a place you feel good supporting not only for the good food, but for the man himself. I walked into this place and was immediately transported back to my childhood and the feeling I got walking into my very first mom and pop owned pizza place. Sadly, I had to go gluten-free many years ago, and had to settle for sad imitations of pizza. And of course they've gotten better over the years. But this place.!! This place was a spiritual experience! One bite of a simple gluten-free pepperoni pizza and there I was in the middle of a restaurant doing my own rendition of Meg Ryan's When Harry Met Sally restaurant scene. This place, now located in Stoneham had ample parking and easy to find. For my lunch I went with a steak and cheese sub. My favorite but can be a hit or miss. This sub was massive and fully loaded! I got extra cheese, cooked onions, pickles, and mayo. The meat was well seasoned and chopped up fine. This beast of a sub was smothered in American cheese and had great flavor. We found Charlie's on Main on a whim and it might be the find of the year! We tried their cheese pizza, tuna club with fries, Greek salad, and mozzarella sticks. The cheese pizza is the perfect classic- thin and crispy with a great sauce and cheese! The mozzarella sticks were battered, but they were also delicious. The Greek salad with the homemade house dressing was a standout- especially with the pita bread! And the tuna club was HUGE with great flavor! Delivery was smooth and the driver was so friendly. Came home after long weekend away and needed some fast and easy. I had been reading on FB all the positive reviews so we decided to give them a shot. Went online and they had a super easy online ordering system. So as other ppl posted problems getting thru on phone just skip calling and get on the website! We had a small meat lovers pizza, which the super thin crisp crust was AMAZING! cheese to meat to sauce ratio was perfect. No soggy middle of the pizza. We also ordered the steak egg rolls and jalapeno poppers. They were alright, not mind blowing, kinda thought they were from the freezer section of a grocery store :/ Oh well, lesson learned; just order the pizza from the pizza place lol. My wife and I saw that Charlie's on Main opened up and decided to stop by and order a few things. There was a signboard out front with a delicious sounding special salad of the day with chicken, cheddar, bacon, avocado, and veggies. Upon entering, we saw huge slices of pizza, including a slice of veggie pizza that was saying, "please eat me!" We ordered those items, plus a classic Italian sub. We figured these were good items for comparison and were delighted. Everything was made to order -- after about 20 minutes, we took our meal home and were very impressed. The sub was MASSIVE and LOADED with Italian cold cuts, cheese, veggies. The salad was full of everything and the pizza was excellent (and definitely Italian -- they spin the dough separately for each order). We will be returning! Oh, they also have Gluten Free pizza if you need that, too. Bonus! Given they seem to be really busy right now, we recommend being patient if you are trying to call in an order. read more

I drove up Sunday from Cape Cod and didn't eat prior so I could try this place. I was met at the door by the owner who said they were closed on Sunday's and that he was only there because he was catering a school event. He saw the look of disappointment (and hunger) in my eye's and said, "come in the fryer is on, you can't go home hungry" He then made me an incredible chicken cutlet, lettuce, tomato, cheese mayo wrap that was so big I couldn't finish it.
