Have been going to Charlie's for our pizza for a few years now. The last month or so the pizza has been subpar. Last night we got a cheese pizza where the toppings were falling off and the dough was soggy. We fold our pizza to eat, couldn't even do that. I brought it back and they got defensive, they told me that it was cooked and that I should have said I want it well cooked. I have never said that before because I haven't had these issues. While visiting from out of town, I was looking for an awesome steak and cheese sub and came across Charlie's. The regular steak and cheese measures about 12" and is more than enough for one person, I would suggest splitting it. The steak is shaved to perfection, however there wasn't enough cheese in relation to the amount of meat. The second time I ordered extra cheese and still wished there was more. The large fries is not your typical "Large" and could be considered more of an XXL. Keep this in mind when ordering for a large group. Overall, the cheese steaks were good for the price and the portions were awesome, I was just hoping for more of an even ratio of cheese to steak! read more

The young lady behind the counter is unprofessional and would not stop agruing even when i told her I dont have the time for it and her co-worker told her as well. My sandwich was wrong and I called and she was yelling even a co-worker heard her from the other cubicle. He took the best of each place and molded it into Charlies. 1. Great roast beef - may be among the best ever with Nicks in North Beverly 2. Best pita break ever.. - I live on pita sandwiches and his turkey or roast beef pita is a taste of heaven 3. Very good pizza - will make it crispy if you ask them to leave it in a tad long 4. Called to cancel my order an the owner wouldn't let me I was very unsatisfied with the service an told the owner to keep the food I don't want it an said I will never be ordering from you again an wasn't fazed at all that it was there fault an could careless that they were losing a frequent customer. We have been going to Charlies for at least 15 years. I enjoy their food, I enjoy the people and the location is great, especially if you want an ice cream after. (Richardsons is next door) So you may be wondering why I am putting up 1 star, especially since a previous review I posted was 5 stars. Allow me to explain. On Sunday 12/11/16 we placed a call in order, for 2 pizzas and a couple sides. When I went to pick up the order they were just finishing up and it cost about $43. Then they handed me 1 pizza instead of 2, when I asked where the second pizza was I was told we didn't order it, when we did. But that's not why I'm upset, mistakes happen. So I told them they missed a cheese pizza and they proceeded to charge me an additional 12 dollars. I was thinking while I was waiting that it seemed expensive, so before taking the food home I asked for a menu and left. When I returned home I added up everything we got from the menu they just gave me, there was a 8-12 dollar difference. So I called back. The owner got in the phone and told me they changed their prices OVER A YEAR AGO. He also told me they didn't buy updated menus so they are giving out the old ones. So they are knowingly telling people their prices are lower and then charging you more behind your back. The owner admitted it also and actually said to me "What's your point?" Like I was the crazy one. Long story short, I will NEVER go back here again. It's a shame because we ordered from here once a week in most cases. I would rather go somewhere where the food may not be as good but you don't get screwed behind your back. I couldn't be more disappointed in the establishment or the owner. read more

Charlies is OK but I've had better. I don't care for the pizza, (strange crust), They are slow to deliver @ lunch time. (my office used to be in the tower down the street). Decent calzone & beefs. Big clean dining room. Plenty of parking. But what takes a star away (I know you'll think I'm being too hard) is that they charge xtra for everything. You want lettuce & tomatoes on your sandwich, that will be 25 cents. When your taking orders from 10 of your coworkers that makes your 6.00 sub 8.00 when the guy finally shows with the food. $7.00 for a small cheese pizza to 18.00 for a large special. read more

I live in Middleton and this is my go-to restaurant. Favorites are the greek salad with a mountain of tuna, the chicken kabob salad and the piled-high warm and juicy roast beef. Oh, and the chicken wings are hot crispy and delicious. The counter people are always friendly and attentive. Service is fast and efficient. And clean, don't forget SUPER CLEAN, everywhere, tables, counter, kitchen. Some posters have criticized the pizza, I may have tried it long ago but I just don;t have an opinion. I had their pizza that was worse than dominos. It was delivered and came rather cold. I also went into the shop and ordered a meat ball sub. That sub was good, and that 's the only good thing about this place. As I was waiting, I saw the lady who was working there cleaning the counters where the food is prepared with some cleaning spray. She took the spray and just walked all along the counter constantly spraying...EVEN when she walked by the fryer, spraying right into it. This of course was right after she put some old french fries back into the fryer after someone walked in ordering some french fries, which I'm sure isn't the best way to make fresh french fries, but then again, I don't make fried food, so I could be wrong. I'm sure not to order anything from there again. Who knows what else they do if that's what I saw in the course of 15 mins. Which brings me to my next point. Why does it take 15 mins to make a meatball sub? I'm sure others have great experiences there, and I usually like places that clean, but that's just wrong. I'm sure no one can tell what they're eating when it comes out of that fryer, so ignorance is bliss for some. read more
