I am on a mission currently for the best roast beef sandwich so I can build a new item for a menu and I have a jewel that can't be beat! This has been the best super beef that I have ever sampled! Soft onion bun savory and appropriately rare beef, love the use of heavy mayo and the BBQ was spot on! I wish I had taken a pic of our sandwiches as we went three different ways; BBQ and mustard (well), BBQ and mayo (rare) and a small with mayo BBQ on the side. We also enjoyed a GIGANTIC plate of French fries, thin but not shoestring, good potato ratio!! This was a hit with a veteran roast beef lover and new comer to this game and an 11 year old (thumbs up with a full mouth)!! We've been finding our way through hit or miss take out in Saugus, after moving from Revere recently. Last night was definitely a hit when we tried Mike's. I got a super pastrami, which was excellent. It's hard to find a good one around here anymore. My husband got the super roast beef and he wants to go back today for another. Last time I went I asked for an extra grilled roll. I get there the guys making my order and goes extra grilled meat I said no extra grilled roll. they take your order then hang up. He says we always grill the roll. I said yeah I just want it extra. They act annoyed then serve us these. beyond inedible can't believe I ate a good amount it made me feel sick. furthermore they didn't grill the roll at all which tells me it was intentional. If it was a mistake I would have gone back but it was like how do you like that guy... so this is my retaliation. I was a server for 10 years so I know how to not be a rude customer. The 2 guys that work in the back are fast paced and friendly. The portions are a good size. The bathroom is very clean. My hubby comes here a lot and gets all different things. He loves it. I used to like the roast beef sandwiches but the last few times the beef was way to rare and not good! I will stick to the fried offerings which are good. The french fries are not the same as they used to be. Hint for owners cook the beef to a higher internal temp, it will taste better. read more

Well...been coming here for decades. Last week I ordered sm. pastrami sub. $8.55. Sub roll wasn't toasted and fatty pastrami was almost hard to find....mostly bread Literally 1/4 cup of meat on each side. 2 starts not 1 because the food was semi decent. Awful customer service! My uncle ran in to get a quick roast beef while I was in the car, on the phone with work. When he came out, he was clearly upset. Note: My uncle is partially blind. I think you can easily tell.. If you can't tell, you would think he was unable to read. he had a $5 bill and $100 bill on him. He asked if there was a roast beef on the menu for $5 and the guy snapped at him saying "no" and rudely pointed to the menu. If there was a $5 roast beef, he was simply going to order a roast beef. Since he was told no, he ordered a roast beef, fry and drink. Paid with $100, asked for a receipt and left. When he got in the car he asked me how much the sandwich was and I told him $5.50. Why could the guy simply not tell him that? Why so rude? If he had known, he would've ordered a roast beef handed him the five dollars and reached into his pocket for his change. What if he only had $5? Most decent human beings wouLd have stated the price of a roast beef along with 1 or 2 other items fOr $5 or under.....just in case money was the issue. Holy sweet baby Jesus. I'm from Saugus so I might be slightly bias, but Mike's is the best. Not only is their food amazing, but the people who work here are so kind and incredibly friendly. I moved away and hadn't been around in a while but I was craving their food like crazy, so I stopped in tonight and it was as if I was VIP. I know that sounds kinda silly for a roast beef place, but it's true. Makes me miss home a little. I also overheard a guy talking about his daughter who also misses the food here because she lives in Colorado now. Used to skip class in high school and sneak out for a sub at Mike's. (I went to Classy right around the corner) Moved away to NY and it's still just as good whenever I come home. Chicken cutlet sub is perfectly crispy and delicious! The sub was overflowing with food, not kidding. The chicken was warm, crispy and tender- the pieces were plenty. The people who work there are 10/10 for customer service. My sub came with all the works...onion, lettuce, peppers etc. lettuce was crisp and clean. I asked for buffalo sauce on the sub with mayo on the side. It was so filling I couldn't even finish the second half of the sub. So much food!! I have been here twice and wish I could go every single day! This place has such a large menu! Everything is made fresh! The roast beef sandwich is huge!! It came with fries and a salad with housemade dressing that was delicious! The gyro also is yummy and it has homemade tzatkiki which was outstanding! I have been coming here since 2001. Hands down the best Roast beef I have EVER had. The junior beef three way literally melts in your mouth and was literally all i ate in college. I was on the north shore today and I HADD to see if Mikes place was still as good as i remembered so I stopped in and grabbed a few junior beef three way for my family at home on the south shore to try.
