Went in with my girlfriend for a casual night out, karaoke, a couple drinks. She shows her valid Vermont ID. The staff takes it to the back, disappears, then comes back demanding a second form of ID "showing her age." What do they expect, people to bring passports and birth certificates to a bar? When we didn't magically produce that, they snatched my beer, walked us to the door, and acted like we were the problem. Thankfully they returned the ID so we didn't have to get police involved. For the record: L Street, Bernie's, The Goat and Wally's don't have this issue. They know how to properly check an out-of-state ID without embarrassing paying customers. If you can't train staff to recognize IDs from a neighboring state, you shouldn't be serving alcohol at all! Avoid, plenty of other spots nearby that actually want your business. read more

This place is wildly inconsistent from one week to the next. It's out of the way, has no parking, only one server working the whole place during the day, and dark restrooms as if we still used oil lanterns...BUT if you come during the evening on a summer night and order the twin lobster deal ($20), you will find 2 lobsters fat to the brim, steamed to perfection so that the slightest tug will pull a claw free and your lobster tail isn't shrunken to a toothpick. You couldn't order the same thing and get that level of perfect on any of those beachfront flashy joints just a few blocks down the strip. Believe me, I've tried. The small pepperoni pizza is perfectly crisp, great amount seasoning for the red sauce, and quality cheese pull. Now if you wait too long though and get there after the karaoke in winter time and they shut down their lobster deal for the summer, it ain't worth the trek! My husband and I stoped in for lunch at 12:25, he ordered shrimp tacos I ordered Cobb salad. 30 mins later still no food. Spoke to the waitress, her excuse was the cook didn't have the chicken ready. I offered to change my order and questioned why there wasn't better communication, all she could say it would be 3 mins more. 15 mins later I was at the car to leave, waitress came out on the porch and said it was ready. We went back in, I explained that I am diabetic and felt a little sinking feeling, my sugar was getting low. We went back in to be presented with burnt, dry, shredded overdone chicken on a wilted bed of lettuce with 2 tomatoes and a few slices of old greasy Avacado. I ate a bit and asked for the bill. Since I didn't feel well at this point I left my husband to pay the bill. He said the waitress was angry and full of excuses. We were trying to leave quickly and without a fuss. I wasn't well and you cant fix anything when someone is in defense mode. We left, paid the bill in full and drove down to Lola's for a fresh salad and a cup of tea! Shame shame shame! read more

I would like to start by saying I've been to Charlies a half dozen times and the food is great! Everytime I go the service is outstanding Mel one of the bartenders knows how to make a mean drink! Okay so this was our first time here and we thought it was a great night to sit outside. There are 4 bars in one building which is great! Okay so I was impressed by the cocktails I had. The food NOT so much!!! The broccoli was cold I mean COLD, I had the Seafood Trio bad choice the taste was horrible I bit into the scallop and it was partly raw, gross!!! I just didn't eat my dinner. My husband had a burger how can you screw up a burger?? He asked for Medium and he got well done hockey puck. The appetizers we got nachos it was not great but okay. The cheese was melted but dry, all the fixings the toppings came separately you basically had to top your own nachos. The chicken wings were okay but no taste. The waitress Amy was great she was attentive and right on top of the drinks. I do not think we will return. read more

It's Monday so You expect it to be 3-4 people. They have karaoke and the people singing are pretty good! This is my first time coming here to this side of New Hampshire. From what I have been told this a summer beach location. The whole area gets packed. The bartender Jessica is amazing. I would come back because of her exceptional people skill. I like that there are actually young people that will come over this late unlike my trip to Maine. This has been a good experience. Even with only 5 or 6 people they are very enthusiastic. Check them out if your in town. I might give them 4 Stars if it stays consistent. However, I don't know if I ever will come back unless there is another contract. Come and check this place out. Charlies Tap House will make you wish you had gone sooner. Thursday $5 burgers are huge and delicious loaded with NO extra charge. Hampton Beach parking is tough, but well worth the trouble. I like it, I don't love it. Here are the pro's and con's for late night drinks( after dinner 9/10pm on). Pro's: it's a hot spot for karaoke and it's always going on. The drinks aren't too expensive and there is seating by the karaoke stage, as well as a bar, so you don't have to go to far to enjoy the evening. The upstairs offers a different environment from the downstairs portion-think more clubby-plus there's both indoor and outdoor options with their own respective bars depending on the weather, so you have options. Con's: it's not nice-at all-very divey, and perhaps that's part of the appeal. The bathrooms are small, dark, something is always broken, they smell and they're very very unclean (garbage, stuff in the toilets, etc). There not a lot of variety for the drinks, and the bartenders favor the locals. The locals dominate this place, so expect a long wait for karaoke, and you may not be able to find a table/seat depending on the time. Also, there's usually a line outside, so if it's cold or the weather is bad, come prepared. It's a low-brow, divey spot, so if that's your thing, this is your place. It's just not good enough to be the cool dicey bar I wish it would be, and believe me-I've come in and out of season. read more

I really like the bar and space it has especially with COVID19 and the crowded bars around. However, this place advertises a ton of beers on draft but I've been here 4 times in the past three months and I am not Lying when I say every single one I have tried had been skunked. Dogfish, bud light, bud, Newburyport IpA, stone face IPA. It's then I realized nobody orders a draft beer here-everyone has a mixed drink or bottled beer. Cannot comment on the food but people seem to like it. Let's fix this Charlie's-drop it down to 10 beers on tap so it's manageable for your staff. read more

Had to post this in regards to the numb-skull John W below. I was actually in the establishment while he was in there, and though the bar tender explained to him that it would be a few minutes for the oven to be turned on and get his slice of pizza he didn't seem to get the message as he became rude and irritating to surrounding patrons. I come in quite a few times each month. The wait staff is always friendly, the food is good. This is the place to go with some friends or even coworkers to hang out grab some food & drinks and enjoy a good night. Clearly the meat ball below gave a bad review on a slice of pizza & beer. I love how he judges people by their looks in his review. If he wasn't a prick maybe he wouldn't have been thrown out. I would highly recommend Charlie's Tap House if you're in or around the Hampton area. Keep in mind being at the beach during the offseason it is quite and low key, but during the summer it is one of the busiest places on the beach front strip. Check it out for yourselves. read more

Food is the worst I have had on Hampton Beach, and that is saying something! We asked what the bartender recommended, and she said the ribs are really good and made in house. My sister and I decided to share a full rack. When it came, to was extremely hot, like a temperature that only a microwave can achieve. Then we tried tearing a bone of to try it it...nope...not happening. Had a hard time cutting it with a steak knife! Bite it?!? Rubbery and not editable! The bartender then had the audacity to ask us if we wanted a box to take it home! Next the drinks. Ordered a Bucket of Rum, which is a big rum punch. Tasted great, like fruit juice. Neither of us could taste any alcohol, so we asked how much was in it. The answer was 3 and a half shots. My 100 pound sister drank a whole one, and felt nothing...lucking if it had half a shot. If you like a place to sing karaoke, that might be a reason to go. If you do, stick to bottled beers, they can't screw that up. read more

This is my favorite restaurant to go to when going to the Hampton Beach. They have extremely cheap food compared to the restaurants by the boardwalk. It's a small troop from the beach, but it is worth it. Try the beach bucket, they will let you bring home the bucket. They also do two steamed lobsters for $19. Definitely a great deal. read more

Burger and salad were good, Coverley was lovely and made good drinks. The other bartender never made eye contact or said hi and I was there for an hour, very awkward. She spent plenty of time talking to the regulars, a couple who were so drunk and sound like he was speaking with marbles in his mouth. I doubt he was tipping her very well. Ordered large amount of pizzas with our family/friends on vacation last week. Twelve pizzas are too much for this restaurant. The restaurant handled the order without customer service skills right from the beginning. They had a broken oven and didn't reveal that. Took our order and after 2 hrs we still didn't have our pizza. With 25 people waiting to eat and spend our last night of vacation on the strip shopping, the delay was very upsetting. They didn't apply any discounts, would not let us speak to manager via phone. After appearing in person, still no management helped our situation. They showed little concern, very little compassion, and zero professionalism as an establishment to serve the customers food, drink and entertainment. We will not be visiting again and highly advise others to do the same! Many other good restaurants in the area who do care about customer satisfaction. read more
