What a hidden gem! While everyone is rushing to the oldest salon across the street, this nice restaurant at the first floor of the hotel is relatively empty and we were quick to snatch our table for a Friday dinner. Service was a bit slow but pleasant, totally a small town ambiance without the rush. The decoration was cozy with a full size bar and you see the hotel's front desk lounge from across. The menu is amazing with good quality and reasonable prices! Their top 2 dishes are the Little Rooster and the Wine & Bone Ossobuco. The Little Rooster was beautifully stacked on in layers of pistachio-crusted chicken breast seared in EVOO with prosciutto, mozzarella, over creamy red potato mash and topped with apple vinaigrette salad. The taste was so complex and the chicken was so juicy that I couldn't believe it's the chicken breast. The prosciutto in the middle came as a nice surprise (I did not read the menu but was captivated by the dish when a waiter was delivering it to another table) and the portion and taste puts it well above the price tag of $25. I was so elated biting into it. The Wine & Bone Ossobuco in contrast is slightly less satisfying as the meat portion was smaller than what I used to get, but we are paying $30 here vs $45 in the Bay Area. The taste is consistent to what a wine braised ossobuco is. We also tried the wagyu burger that came with a red looking sauce that I thought was spicy but it was actually sweet and sour and had a good balance for the burger patty. The personal size salad was also good in taste and size. Overall we couldn't stop talking about the food for our entire weekend trip to Yosemite. It looks like they have an extensive beer, wine and cocktail menu as well. I strongly recommend this place! read more

The "Beer Garden in Back" sign caught our eye as we walked by. We went inside to order drinks for the beer garden, but decided to stay inside the bar since it was just so quaint. We enjoyed our drinks (Smooth Operator was sooo good) and the service was very nice as well. They have several food options, which we did not try, but as we were leaving, saw a plate of the buttermilk fried chicken coming out and it looked absolutely delicious! We planned to come back for that but ran out of time on our vacation. Next time for sure!!! read more

We arrived on a Saturday evening, height of the dinner rush, and on a holiday weekend. The place was packed and looking in from the outside we were not sure how long it was going to take to be able to eat. Finn greeted us all with a smile and an incredible level of down home hospitality. We ordered our food and a table was cleared off for us right away. After seeing the suggestive glow of neon bourbon happiness shining in the corner, we went all in on Old Fashioneds and we were not disappointed. They have an incredibly impressive list of beers on drought too. How can you go wrong with Pliney, Red Seal, Old Rasputin..need I say more? Everything we ordered was incredible. The bone in pork chop will be something I'm dreaming about for awhile. Flavorful, moist, tender, with just the right amount of fire grilled crust on the exterior. I don't even like sweet potato fries but I could not stop eating these. The curry aoili perfectly complimented them. This place was exactly what a friend and I wanted after a long day hike at Hetch Hetchy. We ordered the Pence Farm Bread Basket, the Porterhouse Steak for 2, and a hot buttered rum. The bread came with this great butter that had a sweetness to it, the steak was a perfect medium rare with a chipotle bourbon sauce that had a nice kick, and the buttered rum was so good after being cold outside. We wanted to try the buttered pecan ice cream but they ran out that night. They also have this awesome system in which other generous individuals have paid forward meals for those less fortunate. The service itself while sitting was great, but the initial service you must walk to the counter to order your meals and proceed to seat yourself. Which really isn't an issue, but when we had walked up to the counter and said hello the staff only replied with "wait one minute... what are you guys wanting". What an AMAZING place!!! My husband and I had come in on our wedding night. We gotten into Groveland after a huge snow storm and were having trouble finding a restaurant open. We were immediately welcomed by Brennan and his wife. They are such good people and very friendly. I should also mention because of this storm that had come through they were short staffed. They were still able to give great customer service and create wonderful energy in the place. We ordered one of the specials, the rabbit curry and oh my, we really hope to see that on the menu permanently. We also shared the lamb shanks, pot pie and seared salmon. Every single item was perfect. We were also surprised to see the quality liquors they had available. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. Not a single disappointment! We had a great dinner at the Charlotte of chicken and meatloaf and tacos and it was really wonderful and Finn is just a great host and he showed us some of the rooms that they have there in the hotel, which are just darling, really nice rooms well appointed bathrooms with each room , very very nice hotel and reasonably priced. On our last dinner of the spring break trip to Yosemite we came to the Charlotte Tavern for dinner, after a recommendation from the Evergreen Lodge bar crew. We were greeted by Finn, super friendly host, with mustache out of a western movie (and so is charlotte hotel - stay there if you have the chance - it's magical). The food was outstanding. The fried chicken was super moist and the sun dried tomato pasta was tasty and well cooked (I'm Italian - from Napoli - and I am appalled of how many times I have been served overcooked and bland pasta). Even the steamed vegetables were perfectly seasoned. We finished off with espresso martinis, local ice cream and carrot cake. All exceeded expectations! I appreciate what they're trying to do here. Healthier options with excellent fresh ingredients. The only problem was that the food was only slightly above average in taste. Stuffed pork skin was ordered to start off our meal. Some of my friends loved it. We went on to split the chicken leg, pork spatzle, gnocchi, and duck (I think it was a special because I don't see it on their menu). The duck was cooked beautifully but was a little bland. The chicken was average. Didn't care much for the other two. Got the smores dessert.They have a special homemade chocolate, so that's pretty nice. But it was thick and didn't really melt, hence hard to cut to combine with the crackers and marshmallow... Presentation of all the dishes was fantastic. We ordered the Tavern burger, Mac n cheese for the kids, and the bourbon glazed meatloaf special for dinner. That led to four completely empty plates. So we tried the caramel cheesecake dessert with locally sourced chocolate hazelnut ice cream a la mode. Guess what? Yup, another completely cleaned off plate. Wow! Tucked in a small town of less than 100 just outside of Yosemite, this restaurant serves some kick ass fantastic food. The price is low given the quality of the food, and the amount of attention they put into the details is quite amazing. The chili pineapple chicken is very savory, with a large bed of marinated salad underneath. The pork cutlet is Huge, and very, very soft. The lamb meatballs was also very creamy and juicy. The calamari was unlike any I've had elsewhere, with artistically applied pesto sauce. All the dishes were served in a hand-held chef plate. Classy Finally, they also serve locally brewed beer--both the stout and the pilsner beers of the day were very refreshing. Add to that a fancy interior decor, with a old-town vibe, wooden furniture, and dim glass-lamp lights, and you'll find yourself having a good meal and a great time. My sister, myself, and our boyfriends spent a joint Valentine's Day weekend at Yosemite and stayed at hotel Charlotte. We had such a delightful experience with both the food and hospitality here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would definitely love to come back and highly recommend booking here if you're looking for a clean, dog friendly, affordable, and homey getaway! Since it was v-day, the restaurant had a special 5-course prix fix menu. The best part was that it was only $55 (incredible deal for someone who lives in SF!). Additionally, 5 different wine pairings for each course cost only $10 more for $65. Wow! Needless to say, we loved the food or I wouldn't be writing this review! The highlight for me were the Ling Cod and venison dishes. Who knew that deer could actually taste so good? Everything was super well seasoned and cooked. :) The pace at which each course came out was a bit slower than we were used to, but it wasn't like we needed to go anywhere after so it was fine. As far as I can tell, there are two different dining categories in the town of Groveland: 1) Quick, accessible food. See also: bar food, pizza, pop in for a bite. I actually like small town eateries and you have a few to choose from here. 2) Let's have a nice meal. These are limited in Groveland, and pretty much Fork & Love will probably come up first on your search list. We wanted (needed) option two, so the Yelp app led us here. We first looked into booking a room, but found accommodations elsewhere. The Hotel Charlotte looked very lovely and I'm sure would have been fine to stay there. The old building on Main Street is lovely. I'm pretty sure I saw it on a postcard. When you walk in, the lobby is further back and to right, and the bar is on the left. The bar is quite lovely, and is clearly a distinct proposition from the famed tavern across the street. If you want a nice cocktail, this is the only spot in town where you should be drinking. We were lucky enough to score a seat on the balcony overlooking the road, an this was pretty special. If you can, that's where to go when the weather allows it. I had a homemade lemonade, which I appreciated. It's not all about the booze, after all. The menu is a little eclectic. I like it, but it feels like a book that needed one more pass from an editor. Just trim it up and tighten things a little. They're swinging for the fences. I'd rather have that than a boring place, and this wasn't boring. I ordered the pork spaetzle, which was a nicely prepared dish. Not massive, but well done and delicious. There are several small plates on the menu that are fun to mix and match. I also got to try the patatas bravas which were served piping hot an incredibly crispy, the olives plate, and a few bites of the stone fruit salad with duck. The stone fruit was de-stoned and filled with a ginger panna cotta and wowza, that was good. All in all, it was a really creative meal. Served on a balcony in a small town with the unmistakable scent of the Sierras. I mean, that's magic. No one dish was a home run, but everyone here was so incredibly lovely--from Ambria at the hotel to the restaurant staff. Our server was sweet and patient, and on top of things. For me, there's no other choice when you want option two in the town of Groveland. read more
