The best homemade potato salad ever!
    Sharon S.

We live close by (25 min) and started frequenting there when we found it a few years ago. It is a darling atmosphere with lots of copper and photos of Yosemite. We are greeted right away and seated. The owners are the cooks and mingle with the clientele as they serve. They have a few other staff but the owners do about everything. Many locals eat here. The food is homemade. Corned beef is smoked there. Sauces, gravy and salsa are homemade. The best potato salad ever!! Good "bang for your buck!" We hadn't been there for a little while because we travel. Today we said, "let's go" because we missed it. When we walked in, it was like we had come home. Try it for yourself. It is a great diner with great , consistent food and great service!

    Chicken pesto.... So so good!

Food is outstanding... and so so good.... the staff is amazing. The atmosphere is so friendly, they make you feel very welcome and no one is a stranger.

Scott's Diner in Merced is always a win, and today was no exception. We were on our way to a hike…read morein Mariposa and wanted a Mexican breakfast that would actually power us through the trail--Scott's delivered in every way. We asked if they could do a special order: a burrito deconstructed, with over-easy eggs and the tortillas on the side. They were totally accommodating, and it was exactly what I was craving--fresh, filling, and seriously delicious. I went for the blueberry pancakes, and wow: they were enormous, fluffy, packed with real blueberries, and basically the perfect pre-hike fuel. And the coffee? Amazing, as always. I meant to take a picture of my food, but honestly I accidentally didn't--because everything looked so good that I dug in immediately. And even without the photo evidence, the presentation and plating were incredible, just like they always are. This place has my heart. I'd give it a hundred stars if I could--highly, highly recommend.

Hole in the wall local place near the more southern area of hotels in Merced, and a welcome break…read morefrom mediocre hotel breakfast. Staff here are friendly, there's a solid bit of history and kitsch in the very back on the way to the restrooms, giving character to what is otherwise a decidedly local, low-frills experience. The steak salad (was it a steak taco salad?) looked quite tasty but also ordinary so I skipped it and stuck with breakfast; the sausage and eggs were very much unremarkable, but at least the hashbrowns were nicely pan fried and the eggs were a large portion. Biscuit and gravy reinforced the former impression, but again, hard to complain-- did the job. This place is super affordable and the overall verdict is a solid local place that's easy to appreciate but hard for me to say I would actually get excited about.

I've been here more times than I can count. It's usually our go-to spot when we've stayed out too…read morelate and need a quick bite to eat. This visit was probably the best and worst experience I've had here at the same time. We walked in just before closing without realizing how late it was. The customer who came in right after us was immediately told they couldn't order because the restaurant was closed, which is completely understandable. However, the way it was communicated came across as very rude and abrupt. A simple "I'm sorry, we're closed" would have gone a long way. After that the vibe in the whole place changed even behind the counter. After placing our order, I specifically requested some burgers plain, some without lettuce, and also asked for ranch with our fries. When our food came out, the burgers were made incorrectly and the ranch was missing. I went back to the counter and was told by the same employee that she couldn't give me ranch because her register was already closed and she would have to charge me for it. The cashier who originally took my order apologized and said she thought she had added it to the receipt. I explained that I had requested it when ordering (I had even left a tip) When I asked if I could still get the ranch, I was told no and the employee walked away. Thankfully, the manager came up to my table and provided the ranch, allegedly anyway she was wearing normal clothes no uniform. She also had the incorrectly made burgers remade and personally brought them to our table, apologizing again for the inconvenience. The manager completely turned the experience around and was the reason the visit ended on a positive note. Unfortunately, one employee's attitude left a lasting impression. Customer service isn't always easy, but friendliness and professionalism make a huge difference, especially when handling simple requests. (The blonde, shaved head lady) I'm grateful the manager stepped in and made things right. However, after this experience, I'll probably think twice before making this my late-night go-to spot again.

My taste buds were singing they were so happy. My onion ring were extra crunchy just like I asked. They had a brand of soda pop I had never tried before called stubdurns. It was really good. They had 4-5 different flavors. The service we got from ordering to seating was prompt and courteous. Everyone greeted us. We both really enjoyed the atmosphere of the diner.

Nice portions of food were you can take home. Since I was hungry and my boyfriend had already eaten, we decided to share the 1/2 sandwich and their soup of the day-a bowl of chicken n rice, DELICIOUS. Wonderful friendly helpful waitresses, who are attentive, great customer service, inside and outside seating-weather permitting. Right of Fwy 99 and Main St., in Turlock. Opens at 6:00 am and closes at 3 pm everyday- its a diner, and casual atmosphere! I would highly recommend my family, friends, and new comers. The waitresses are so friendly in Turlock and the cook is so cool. They are all off of Fwy 99 in Hilmar, Ceres and Turlock off of Main St nearby the freeway and and you will see McDonald's on your right side and Hot Rod on your left side facing the freeway. ENJOY! UPDATE: Went again a week ago, and yes the soup was delicious! We learned today that they have a variety of soups of the day. Even the lentil soup was delicious that we decided to take a bowl home to share or not.

So after church…read moretoday we decided to try the one in Turlock, thinking we'd experience the same quality food and service. We were sadly mistaken. Entering the restaurant, the first thing that caught our attention was the dirty floor, littered with food and paper products throughout the restaurant. Coffee and water came out quickly but never had a refill on the coffee until I had finished my meal. Not because I didn't want any, but our server was busy with other tables and didn't get to us until we were almost done. My wife's meal was mostly ok, but the English Muffin was hard enough to use as hockey pucks. My chicken fried steak had a weird flavor and not sure if it was on the gravy or the seasoning used on the meat. But it was just so-so, nothing to write home about. Best thing was the eggs, done perfectly and hashbrowns were pretty decent. Biggest complaint was the slow service, probably due to it being grad weekend and they were pretty busy with families (according to the cashier), and the extremely dirty place. The bathroom was also dirty, obviously nobody had cleaned it for quite a while. I blame management for not planning ahead and having at least 1 or 2 extra servers/busboys on hand to handle the larger crowd. We decided to return to the Ceres location and call that our home for Hod Rod Diner food. As another recommendation, I suggest taking the carpet out and just having a plain floor; much easier to keep clean than a carpet.
