Another update! Back to report that the new configuration of spin class downstairs and mat classes…read more(like yoga, barre, and pilates) upstairs works very well. I've been loving Monday night spin classes with Zain - he is an incredible instructor with the best playlists. His class is some of the most fun I've had at a workout class. It feels more like dancing with a group of friends than working out. I bike about 10 miles in his 45 minute class which is something I just never thought I'd be capable of. I've also been enjoying Wednesday evening barre classes upstairs with Erin. This is a new class and I hope they keep it on the schedule! Erin is a great instructor who queues very clearly and makes the class feel fun with her high energy. As someone who primarily weight lifts, barre is such a refreshing challenge for me. I feel like I'm learning a whole new skill set in that class. For a bit, I was also liking the Thursday evening mat pilates class with Chi but they seemed to have taken it off the schedule now :( The weight training areas continue to be conducive for a great workout. My only wish would be that they replace some of the elliptical machines with treadmills. When the gym gets a little busy, it's easy for the treadmills to fill up pretty fast since there's about 8 treadmills total. Whereas, there's probably twice as many ellipticals and I don't think I've ever seen more than a few people using them at a time. I'm also not a huge fan of the fact that you now how to ask the front desk for a towel - this isn't something I've seen at any of the other locations. The bathrooms are a bit outdated and could use some updating as well.

Love this gym! The staff are so friendly and the facilities are always clean. I have all of the…read moreequipment that I need for my lifts, which I also really appreciate.

Don't join this gym unless you're ready for them to fraudulently charge you $680 several months after you have canceled the membership. When approached about this discrepancy, the manager, Ashley Harvey, states that policy ALLOWS them to illegally charge you months after you have canceled. So there you have it. Out of the horse's mouth. A quick scroll though the reviews will indicate that this has happened with may other members. Choose wisely if you're wondering if this gym is for you. Current members, take heed and prepare to be in close contact with your banks should you ever decide to cancel.

However, before I even stepped foot into the gym, multiple employees called and text me. I feel like this, and I am sure others do too, of I say I will be there on Monday, I will be there on Monday. Unfortunately, they will call and text you almost everyday, even after you share when you will take a tour. Look, I don't owe you any money, don't call me as if I do. I couldn't take the harassment and never even went to take a tour. If employees can't respect my time, I don't want to be a member.

The owner will threaten you verbally and physically and try to wheel and deal you into cancelling their membership. They double charge sometimes and randomly. They charge random days each month and it's usually never the same. It's happened to me a couple of times. They say they will take care of it but they don't. They are not a good business and they will take your money and make it impossible to cancel. They have multiple emails and multiple processes and multiple scripts on how to cancel your membership. You would think by telling and emailing the owner that you want to cancel would suffice, but that is far from the truth. This place is a sham and because of all these other horror stories I have read, I'm glad I escaped when I did. This is the first time I read the reviews and I was a member for years. the owner talks about this freely about not caring about the members and has no problem sending his members to collections because he knows he cons people into signing shoddy contracts that are impossible to get out of. This place deserves less than a star and it's sad because you can get a decent sweat here, but the owner is a horrible person.

The good: Fun classes, good sense of community…read more The bad: I join a chorus of others who keep being charged for classes despite following the contract. I had two doctors notes for broken bones/injuries and I was charged for those months. I finally got an email response which was obvious that they hadn't read my previous emails. When I moved out of the area, I followed my contract to cancel. I unfortunately have been charged 3 months out and have had to dispute with my bank. I cannot in good faith recommend this gym given my experience and other reviews, which is a shame because there's so much potential within the neighborhood.

This Planet Fitness is a completely serviceable, average example of the PF franchise. It's usually…read morereasonably clean, has enough equipment to accommodate everyone with limited waiting except during peak hours, and mostly polite patrons. The price is definitely right: $24 a month for the cheaper plan advertised as "$15/month" and $29 a month for the "$24.99" "Black" membership that allows you to use any PF location, massage chairs and tanning beds. (Actual prices I mentioned includes the additional annual and starting fees). The downsides--not horrible issues, but at times bothersome: -Dumbbells max at 75 lbs -No barbells/benches--only Smith machines -Some equipment needing servicing -The locker rooms seem to be in a constant state of disrepair with damaged stalls and showers, which seems common at many gyms -Staff don't seem inclined to remind patrons to be respectful of others when they are loudly moaning from pleasurable workouts, shouting music lyrics, and playing music on speakers

Outstanding downtown location…read more Larger space and more workout equipment than Merritt and other gyms in the area. The workout equipment is excellent, generally kept in decent condition and updated regularly. Simple, fair membership agreements that can be canceled, temporarily suspended, changed to other PF locations, all easily. This is NOT common in the fitness industry. Other clubs seem to compete for which one can write the most one-sided, burdensome and overall toxic membership agreements. A simple $25/month membership allows one to visit any Planet Fitness facility in the world and there are around 2,500 Planet Fitness facilities. With a Black Card ($25/month) membership, you can bring a guest whenever you wish. Never any charge for bringing one guest. You can bring more than one guest for a small payment. Easy going staff, chill ambience. The folks who work out here are mostly there to work out. Negatives? The locker rooms need to be updated. They don't have a pool or sauna. But overall, for a large, well-equipped urban fitness center, Planet Fitness on Charles Street is extraordinarily well-priced and in my view a great place to work out for those of us who work, live or visit in the urban core of Baltimore City.

City Fit is the best gym and no one will ever change my mind about it…read more I've been a member since June 2018. I'm not the typical person you think of when you think about a gym person and I have struggled with society's perception of my fitness. Knowing this when I began looking into gyms and that I would need guidance and accountability I looked for a gym that I could get training at. I knew that joining a chain wouldn't be a good fit because I would be someone paying the rent and I wouldn't feel supported. Then I found City Fit! At the time I was still living in Mount Vernon and over the moon I could walk there. I went in for a tour/ introduction and joined in the spot. Over the past 3.5 years, City Fit has brought so much into my life. Suz is an amazing trainer and always willing to meet you where you are at, no matter what. She pushes all of us in ways that prove to us we are more capable than we give ourselves credit for. I have made wonderful friends from the gym, but it's not a requirement. The community is there, we support each other, and that is what makes this gym so special. I've always preferred the small group training over classes because I am personally more self-aware when I am doing something wrong in a class vs. in small group. That's a me thing; their classes are great though! I've taken a few and done cardio while others were in session. When the pandemic hit, CF closed (obv) and found a way to adapt. Suz began posting workout videos, hosting zoom classes and sent at home work outs as we requested. She even loaned supplies out to those who needed things at home. Upon reopening, she further adapted by starting with 60m workout slots to keep everyone safe. Now the gym is open to classes with limited sizes, but you can still sign up for open gym slots and she still hosts zoom classes. All of these things have been crucial... but at the end of the day the thing that has been the most impactful is the love and support that flows from this establishment. No matter what stage of life or mentality, Suz meets me where I am at. She helps me see my goals and celebrates with me when I accomplish them. She never makes me feel bad when I fall off my routine because I have too much going on. Suz is the owner and trainer, but many of us call her our dear friend. This is mirrored in the community members here too. If you are looking for a gym to support you and your goals and one that you won't feel invisible at, I highly suggest City Fit. Take a tour or try a class! I promise you, it's worth it.
