I loved this place I went both mornings of my stay in this neighborhood. Like the name says, A charming little cafe with breakfast sandwiches or bowls and coffee, tea, and matcha. The comfy neighborhood place. The shop has weekend specials, and I lucked out for homemade cinnamon rolls! i also ordered an egg bowl to go with my iced matcha(almond). first day I sat and ate while watching a neighborhood zoomba class in the small square outside. its nice how the neighborhood gets together like that. nice comfy place with simple breakfast. the next day i get another egg bowl and matcha. somehow conversation starts with me and the woman at the next table and before i know it, several hours have gone by and she didn't get any of her computer work done and the buddy I was supposed to meet up with, thinks i'm dead in a ditch. Charmer's seems to be an appropriate name. food was good. the comfortable friendly vibe of the place and the neighborhood stands out even more. read more

Cute coffee joint just off the Jarvis stop. It's nice and comfortable and has ample seating. They even have indoor swings! They have goodies in a cabinet. We came late so didn't have too many things left. The coffee was Metropolis!!! Soo good. It was nice and hot and fresh the way coffee should be. I was extremely impressed by the chocolate chip cookie!! It was soft and chewy. It looked like it would be crunchy and dry but it wasn't! It was worth every penny and I would do it again. The interior is chill. They have a cool Jarvis sign above the coffee bar. They have lots of different kinds of seating to match your needs. There is also a paid printer in the back corner. There is ample street parking around. Some are metered parking and some are free residential parking. Definitely get the cookie. You will not be disappointed!! I've been meaning try this cafe near my house for a while now but it took a terrible snow day In Chicago to keep me so close to home. This cafe is 2 steps from the red line Jarvis stop and about a block away from the purple Howard stop. The servers and clients are super nice and it's a pretty cozy area. When I arrived in the afternoon on Saturday the only seats left were the swing set ones pictured below. Even though they're cute they're not the most ergonomic and I eventually shifted to a stuffed chair when there was availability. I ordered just a small chai latte, I thought it tasted a little thin and the cinnamon on top was just piled on top. However I still want to give this place four stars for the kind community that inhabits it and the good music! read more

My son and I love this place. It's very family friendly. They even have swings you can sit on (hanging from the ceiling - see picture) and vintage board games - a blast from my childhood. The coffee is very flavorful and strong. My son really loves the breakfast sandwich. They have a lot of veggie or pescatarian options. The milkshakes are amazing as well. Charmers Cafe is even more charming now than it was three years ago, when I first reviewed it. Charmers has new ownership, and the owners are committed to improving the cafe and expanding its offerings. The menu is more diverse than in the past. There are offerings everywhere for carnivores, of course, and Charmers has those, but now, vegetarians and vegans have choices. Yay! This small portion of Jarvis Street is closed to automotive traffic on the weekend, to accommodate more outdoor tables. You have even more choice of pleasant outdoor seating than before Covid-19. You order at a window on the east side of the restaurant and then take your order to a table. No indoor dining for now. It was lovely to return to Charmers Cafe and find out it is better than ever. read more

Fortunately we have this coffee shop in the neighborhood, but unfortunately it's the only one. The breakfast sandwiches are good and I like the chicken tinga sandwich. The coffee is bitter, not the best. Also, I was told by a staff member last year that they don't get their bakery items from Bennisons Bakery anymore (that is still mentioned in their description above). Another reviewer commented the music is really loud and that is so true. On a Saturday afternoon they were blaring club music so loud and the staff was also vacuuming. I almost left after 10 minutes of anxiety inducing sound while I was waiting for my sandwich and coffee, then thankfully they finally toned it down. Not a relaxing atmosphere at all. The restaurant is so cute and I have been meaning to go in here for years and wanted to love it. However, after tipping 20% at the counter it seemed that I was never going to get the bowl of chili I ordered. When I asked about it they said some orders were not getting to the kitchen due to a technology glitch. Well, if you ask for tips and that is the case then do what other workers in the industry who tip do - take down people's orders and make sure they are getting their food. Additionally, when I received my chili the bones were in it (choking hazard) and the beans weren't cooked all the way through. The bathroom garbage was overflowing and it smelled. I live across the street and have started a little addiction to their breakfast sandwiches. It's the cutest little cafe on the cutest block in the city. Sort of a central meeting place for people in the neighborhood and they're super welcoming and inclusive. beautiful indoor and outdoor seating. When I'm working at my desk in my apartment, I can just watch all the people coming with their little doggies and getting their coffees and saying hi, just how a neighborhood place should me. If you're from Chicago, you know of the far north side neighborhood Rogers Park, but what you may not be aware of is the sub-community within the area adjacent of the Jarvis Red Line Station so eloquently called, 'Jarvis Square'. In this small corner of Jarvis and Greenview, you'll notice a local coffee shop they got there, the Charmers Café. People of the area know this place very well, as it can be a known meet up spot in the daytime hours. While Charmers' specialty is in their regular and seasonal blends of coffee, they also serve up a decent breakfast and lunch food menu. Filled with scrumptious items like breakfast bowls, sandwiches that include their in-house made bacon, and salads, they got a bite for any type of patron who needs some fuel along with their cup of joe. Not a coffee fan? They also brew some teas here as well. In addition to seating indoors, they take up some of the sidewalk space for their patio, and during the warmer months of the year, you will see the love pour from their community, and rightfully so. Charmers delivers a fine cup of coffee, hot or iced, and their customers are nothing but loyal. Lot of respect for this café and how they're able to hold their heads up high, serving up their customers with a smile in the small sub section of Rogers Park. Really looking forward to come in again and try one of their breakfast bowls. Also side note, they got some swings seats indoors. Love that little bit of whimsy. The best outdoor seating around. There is always something happening when I go a grab my coffee and croissant. Weather it be live music, plant sale or pumpkin carving. It's like nothing else I've been too. And a bonus, dogs are allowed. It pains me to have to write this review, because I do want this cafe to survive and prosper. Unfortunately, I've given this place far too many chances and they have disappointed me on multiple occasions, so I won't be going here anymore. That saddens me, because there are a few people that I've interacted with here that have been lovely, but the inconsistency of drink quality and aloofness here from many of the employees just tells me this place has a lot of issues. Today was the last time I'll have to deal with paying over 7 dollars for a large iced latte that doesn't have any ice in it. Wait, I do think it had two ice cubes in it, which melted in about 20 seconds due to the oat milk being warm. They don't keep their oat milk or almond milk cold (at least they certainly don't any time I have gotten a drink), so it's imperative that you actually put ice in an iced latte so the customer has a cold drink. Also, if you don't put ice in an iced latte, it doesn't taste like coffee, it tastes like milk. I don't want a milk drink, I want a coffee drink. Either ice in your cafe is at a severe shortage, or many of the baristas making drinks have no idea what they are doing. Either is not acceptable for the amount paid for these drinks, which isn't cheap. An iced latte has to be one of the easiest drinks to make, yet it constantly is made wrong here, so that leaves me to wonder about the more complex, hot drinks; I suspect they are often made incorrectly as well. Why are some people here trained well, and some are so obviously not? Today, when I asked the woman who handed my drink to me why it didn't have ice in it, she gave me an attitude and said, "We are trying to save your hands from the cold weather." I'm sorry, that is the most lame excuse for not putting ice in an iced latte that I've ever heard. If I was concerned about the weather and how it will affect my enjoyment of an iced latte, I wouldn't order the thing in the first place. Many people do still prefer iced drinks in cold weather. It just doesn't seem unreasonable to me to want some ice in an ICED latte. It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect a drink that costs over 7 dollars to be made correctly. Call me crazy. A couple of other issues- sometimes I've waited over 10 minutes for a drink, when they aren't even that busy. They advertise danishes and other food items from Bennison's but they only get a few of each on any given day, so unless you get there quite early, you aren't getting them. It almost seems like false advertisement when every time someone asks for a certain item you don't have any. Now that it's colder this shouldn't be much of an issue, but during months when bugs and bees are out and about, this cafe has a plague of bee problems. I've also witnessed flies camping out on their croissants and danishes in the case, just having a wonderful time. I tried to sit outside once and simply couldn't stay because of so many bees. Everyone loves plants and flowers, but do you think perhaps that's the reason there are so many darn flies and bees buzzing about? It could have a lot to do with it, along with trash cans placed right by where people are sitting to eat/drink. Finally, I think I just need to say a few words about the amount of espresso shots in each drink. Now, most coffee shops will do 1 shot in a small, 2 in a medium, 3 in a large. Charmers seems to want to be different so they do 2 in a small, 3 in a medium and 4 in a large. One can appreciate the idea that the customer is getting more for their money here, but I suspect that many people may caught off guard by the caffeine content in their drinks. I drink coffee every day of my life, but even I got the jitters and shakes after buying a large coffee one day and having no idea that it had 4 shots of espresso in it (That's a quad). Generally, a shot of espresso has about 75mg of caffeine. 4 shots in one large drink, that's at a minimum probably 300 mg of caffeine in one go, which is too much for most people in a given day. Or at least it's more than they are used to. The same would be true for someone who is generally expecting a certain amount of caffeine in small or medium size drinks, because they literally get the same amount in virtually every coffee shop they go to. Maybe this info is posted on the menu, but I didn't see it posted in the store anywhere, and this is info that people need to know. I drink coffee every day, and even I have to ask to only get 3 shots in my large latte, not 4. Yes, it's cute inside. One might say it's "charming." But if you want a quality drink, consistently, I can't recommend this place. It's hit or miss, and that's just not good enough. read more

Went here with family, and the 3 of us had perfect coffees, egg sandwhichs and ambience on the patio tables. We all agreed it was the best choice we could have made and will be back for sure. Even though I'm from out of town, this place will hold a special place in my heart. neighborhood trees, flowers and quietness were such a relief on this busy Labor Day, when other popular breakfast joints had huge lines down the block. Oh what a charming café- no pun intended! My husband and I were at a beach nearby and I asked my husband to get ice cream on the way home. He said, "if it's on the way home"- I looked up ice cream shops nearby on my yelp app and what do you know, it was less than five minutes away! Turns out there was a massive block party in progress when we arrived so my husband and I were very fortunate to find free street parking on a side street. However, there is plenty of free side street parking but there is also pay to park. I really loved the neighborhood that this café was in- it definitely had a pleasant friendly vibe. In addition, it won major points in my book because it's conveniently located next to the red line Jarvis stop so if you need a mid- day pick me up or just need some down time after work, this is the perfect place to stop by! One of the main reasons I decided to come here instead of for example, oberweis or dairy star in Lincolnwood is because I read that they serve Homer's ice cream. A. absolutely support and love cross town collaborations. If you've never been to Homer's, you're missing out and I highly recommend going- they are located in Wilmette and have amazing food and homemade ice cream. I really appreciated the fact that this café was serving ice cream created by another small business- those small details paint a big picture in the small business world. I support all small and big business that stand together united! B. I love Homer's ice cream and knowing that I can have it in Roger's Park without having to take a hike all the way to Wilmette is an awesome feeling. It was my husband's first time trying Homer's and he really loved it as well! He was blown away by the texture and the quality. We ordered two scoops- strawberry and Oreo- our only regret is that we didn't get more. We came there around 4:30 on a Saturday and they close at 5. However, I can't wait to go back and try other items on their menu. They also have swinging chairs which I really appreciate because it just adds so much character and liveliness to the place. Oh man I wanted to like this place because I love supporting small coffee shops, but, unfortunately, like other reviewers mentioned, they know nothing about coffee. My partner and I went in and he asked if their espresso was a light roast or a dark roast. The person at the counter was so thrown off and said he had no idea. Then he went and found three other people working in the back of the store to ask them and nobody knew. How do you run a coffee shop and you don't even know if the coffee is light medium or dark roast? We still laugh about it to this day because it's just so ridiculous that nobody that works in the shop knows anything about the coffee they're serving. I ordered breakfast from here through grubhub this morning for the first time. So, while I can't speak on the restaurant itself I can say my breakfast was delicious. I got the lox breakfast sandwich. Which consists of an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, tomatoes, and red onion. The toppings were fresh and plentiful, the bagel still reasonably warm and fresh, everything tasted flavorful and satisfying. Charmer's Cafe is for ... the neighborhood. It is the perfect shop to have at that location, where it serves as a gathering place for the community, meet up with some friends on the patio and catch up, or a Sunday morning reading/crossword puzzle session. It's also especially for families in the summer to stop by for an ice cream cone or a shake. The new decor is very sophisticated yet laid back, and those gorgeous swinging bar seats can totally be the talk of the town. Staff is very friendly, and seem to really know the neighborhood. For me, I mostly come for the convenient cup of coffee right before my occasional train ride to work. I have never come during the typical rush hour, and so far I have almost never gotten a latte since they aren't quite fast enough for me to not miss my train. The couple of times I had espresso drinks, they were far from perfect. The pastries... are very local, but every time I've given in out of hunger, I have found them to be too dry/staled. Students, if you want a quiet place to study with intense focus, the lighting inside is probably too dim, and people do chat a lot here. I like the fact that Charmer's is here, and it has such an important role on this block. But even after a few months of opening, I don't know if I would recommend it with fervor to people who don't live around here/aren't already passing by. Really enjoyed the chocolate scone and drink beverages here as well as the cute interior and friendly service! Ordered the Matcha Latte 12oz with soy milk, Cappuccino 12oz with almond milk, and a chocolate scone! The Matcha Latte was perfectly sweetened and there was no overpowering bitterness from an excessive use of the matcha powder either. There was no a pool of matcha powder at the end of my drink either which was nice. The Cappuccino was different than the ones I've had, as the foam on top was not a thick layer but inside a light bubbly cloud almost like a dollop. The drink overall was very delicious and the almond milk made it was nutty. The chocolate scone was not overly sweet and there was a plentiful amount of chocolate chips used inside and the chocolate glaze on top was phenomenal! I really enjoyed my time here and the swing seats are great! The wifi they have set up for customers makes me want to spend a lifetime in there and I would have no complaints! Love the area and the fact that I can walk here. Years ago it was a coffee shop and then switched over to a restaurant. I never visited when it was the restaurant but I love the way they reconfigured the inside back to the coffee shop. Love the look of the place. Was excited to see they had donuts, was not excited to hear they were from Bennisons. I had an iced coffee and it was a decent cup of coffee. I ended up getting a glazed donut cause I needed a donut for the instagram picture I wanted to take. And I was actually surprised that it was fresh and delicious. I was intrigued by the menu items and I will be back. I've been stuck in a long Time Starbucks rut so I'm Glad I've been exploring other coffee options in the area like this place and sol cafe. read more

The first 60 degree sunny day in a Chicago spring pretty much requires that you find somewhere to eat outside. Having a dog with you also requires this. Luckily, Charmers has plenty of outdoor tables and they even have a bowl of water for the dogs! Aside from the dog, I'm glad we were able to eat outside - the inside would have been tricky to navigate with the stroller. We had lunch here on a Sunday. It wasn't very crowded. The menu has been significantly reduced since the last time we were here; from reading other reviews, they seemed to have transitioned away from being a restaurant to being more of a coffee shop. Which is fine - the small menu was still sufficient for our needs. I had the Rogers Pork sandwich and it was delicious. Whoever had the idea to put bbq sauce on a ham sandwich deserves a medal. Seriously. Other important details: free wi-fi. Baked goods looked yummy. Homer's Ice Cream. Extensive coffee menu. We're not in the area often, but when we are, I'm sure we'll be back. read more

This is a cute and charming local cafe that my husband and I like to visit in the mornings. Their staff is wonderful and friendly and their smoothies are very fresh. My favorite is the berry smoothie and their summer lemon shake. The also make an excellent turkey club! My only critisicm is their menu is pretty small. They only offer three different sandwiches and a few shake flavors. Their pastry spread is pretty generic consisting of crossants, bagels, cookies, and brownies.
