Overall: Great view, slow service, average food, overpriced Context: Grew up in Daytona eating here, traveled to NY, Chicago, Houston, Miami over the years. Returned for Mother's Day dinner. Have had friends who worked here. This is a chain restaurant. Hosting: Overstaffed. Four people doing what one person should be able to. As others have mentioned, even if you have reservations, their 'goal' is to have you seated within 15 minutes of your check-in. Service: Exceedingly slow. The first hello didn't come for 5 mins, drinks 10 mins later, bread 10 mins later, appetizers, meals, etc... Overall experience was 3.5 hours. I guess it's supposed to be an upscale restaurant so your supposed to take you're time. There were two servers splitting about 8 tables, which comprised 4 to 8 people. This is extremely understaffed for the class of restaurant they are trying to be. Ambiance: This place sits on the water where boats/yachts dock so you can have the people wearing shorts and beach shirts, to people going to prom, next to a family with young children running around. Keep in mind that you are in Florida in a beach city so there are plenty of retired couples and tourists as well. Food: The salad bar is $15 alone or $9 dollars with your meal. Think elaborate Ruby Tuesdays. The calamari and friends was fresh and interesting with the random chips and fried peppers that it included. I have always gotten the Prime Rib which I enjoyed Medium Rare - think overpriced Outback. We also had the beef medallions that was overcooked and too salty. It was returned and grilled salmon was ordered which took about 15 additional minutes. This was unfortunately overcooked as well, but we gave up and the manager didn't seem to mind. They didn't charge for the steak, but didn't comp the fish. The chocolate lava cake has changed with more chocolate on the outside than the inside, nothing spectacular for $11. Do not ever come here!!! I planned a private event for my grandmother's surprise birthday 6 months in advance at the Chart House. The private event was scheduled from 4pm-8pm. We arrived at 4:10pm and the room was not ready as the AC was broken and they had men in the room with equipment and ladders trying to fix it. No one from the restaurant called in advance to let us know of this issue or how they were working to resolve it. The AC was not fixed and the room wasn't ready for our party until 4:45pm. They offered a different section to sit in which was highly congested and right under the stairway which was not a comparable solution as we paid for a private room. The manager, John, did an extremely poor job to rectify the situation and took zero responsibility for the room issues and the room not being ready at the contracted time. The banquet manager, Kim, who I was in contact with via email prior to the event never came to apologize to our party for the inconvenience and lack of communication or even check in to see how the event was going. While the food and servers were amazing (especially Gio), until this restaurant is under new, competent management, I will never return and do not recommend anyone else to do so. Dinner was great once it arrived, we have been eating here for years... ALWAYS PERFECT. Last night food was great but service was off. Water glasses empty for a long time,wine took a while too, took long time for entrees. (almost an hour) Just seemed like the waiter was not having a good night. We recently went to the Chart House for Mothers Day (2023) I called ahead of time and confirmed and again when Chart House called to confirm my reservation that they had chicken for my grandson. He is 12. When we sat down I asked our waitress to confirm they had a kids menu or chicken for my grandson. I explained that I had confirmed twice that they had it but wanted to make sure. The waitress said she was told no children's menu at a meeting the same day. I told her to verify that as I was again told twice there would be a kids menu. After she left I looked at the table to the right of me and sure enough they had a KIDS MENU. I grabbed the menu waiting on the waitress. The waitress said NO kids menu only chicken nuggets and took the KIDS MENU from me. At that point my grandson was feeling embarrsed and started to cry. He cried for 40 minutes. After a while the chicken nuggets were delivered and my grandson stopped crying and ate his meal. My meal was delivered with the root vegetables raw and hair ( looked like eyelashes) on my plate. Some women came over and took my meal off the bill but by that time we all vowed we would NEVER come back. We love Mario's and the only reason we went to the Chart House was the cash reward cards I had. For our one year anniversary, my mother wanted to treat us to an elegant dinner.​ In Daytona Beach there are many places to eat and drink with a view of the Halifax River or Atlantic Ocean.​ But most of these are casual dining where a T-shirt, swim trunks and flip-flops are okay. ​Finding a place where the food, ambiance and wait staff suggest at least button up shirts (not even a jacket) is harder to find. Chart House has the menu, the view and the snobby hostesses to make the case ​you should dress up for this place. But it's the snotty hostesses that will ruin your experience (so much so that I'm writing this review in hopes someone in management cares and fixes the situation before you risk it​​).​ So we arrive: ​ ​two dresses; two jackets.​ (​​There's no reason for us to be seen any other way to the hostess​es other than two well-dressed couples​.)​ The restaurant is 2/3 empty, but, instead of one of the many empty window tables facing the river, we are led around to one facing as much of the parking lot as ​one hostess can find and in a cluster of tables that ensures guests will be talking over each other, bumping into each other and bumped into by the wait staff. Insane. I held back and pointed out that there were several other tables on the river side of the restaurant where we would prefer to sit (not ​even​mentioning our special occasion ​or to make it worth the expense).​ In a huff we were returned to the waiting area.​ At this point we are also noticing that several men are dressed for a day at a ballgame instead of a fine restaurant.​ Several ladies are dressed for an outdoor picnic.​ One entourage was dressed in printed T-shirts, shorts and various sneakers and scuffs-abouts. After conferring feverishly at their computer, apparently ​the hostesses confirmed their were empty window tables (plainly visible in their 2/3 empty restaurant).​ But still they found one right next to another full table and nearest as possible to a wait staff station.​ Meanwhile an empty table for 6 was free on our other side.​ (We were only 4​, so perish the thought​.) To make our point clear​ about the poor treatment​, within five minutes of seating us they sat a couple​ (that's two human beings)​ at the table for 6.​ They were dressed for an ocean bar.​ Nice but not here.​ Tables remained largely empty,​ ​but we were crowded and unimpressed.​ Poor treatment of people who come to celebrate a special day at your restaurant and dressed appreciative of your restaurant as an elegant establishment makes it unlikely ​anyone will return again dressed up or willing to pay top dollar for lousy service from the get-go. Food, by the way, was a smidge better than Outback.​ Drinks were pricey and ordinary (despite ​the ​​marketing in the drink menu). I don't mind paying a lot or driving a long distance for what you would expect to be exceptional food and service, but this location was nothing but disappointing. I drove 25 minutes after placing my to go order at 8:45 (they close at 9:30) for the coconut shrimp appetizer, lobster bisque and oysters Rockefeller (I had asked for hollandaise sauce on top of the oysters like how they used to prepare the dish, before switching to a lemon shallot butter sauce). A waitress took my order along with my name and # and should have called me if they could not do this. I had to walk downstairs to the bar to pick up my order. The bartender only had 1 customer who was leaving, yet had taken no time to check my bagged up order. I ALWAYS check my orders as it seems there is usually something missing or wrong. I don't like it when someone else takes the order and then you receive sub-par service by someone not familiar with what you specified...The lobster bisque was completely missing. The oysters "Rockefeller" had no hollandaise on top of each oyster, nor on the side. He said that they couldn't provide it! I said that I should have been informed of that at the time of the order or one of you could have called me to see if I still wanted it or some of the lemon shallot sauce that normally comes with it. He said he would get some of the lemon sauce. I opened up the coconut shrimp container and saw that it was missing the 3 sauces that are supposed to come with it. And the breading on the shrimp was too pale, totally saturated in oozing oil and had not been rolled in enough coconut. Their oil temp must not be hot enough to fry them brown enough quickly so that they would not be overcooked inside and absorbing all the oil. I took a bite off one of them....and yuk! Tasteless, overcooked and greasy without any discernible flavor of coconut or crunch. I had seen some pics of this dish on their Yelp listing, where it appeared well-browned with enough coconut, and that is what I expected. I said I didn't want them. But the bartender disappeared and came back very shortly with another order that had extra shrimp and looked less overcooked but again not dredged in enough coconut or browned properly with hot enough oil. He had someone bring the missing sauces for the shrimp and a girl brought a partly melted soufflé cup with a minuscule amount of the lemon sauce for the oysters. I looked at it like, really? She returned as I was overpaying with a side of the lemon sauce that the kitchen "had to make up". Why are they running out of it? It and hollandaise, contrary to what many believe, can be made ahead and reheated slowly so it doesn't separate. I was very frustrated and unhappy, but paid the $38.88 ($36.50 pre-tax amount) and left a $5.12 tip which is actually more than the standard 10% on to go orders, especially for horrible service. He didn't even put plastic utensils, a napkin or bread/butter in the bag, yet looked at me like he expected more since he had to go up and down the stairs to get stuff when if things had been done correctly and checked before I got there, I wouldn't be put into a position of having to complain and wait while it got colder and wasn't happy with what I got. But it got worse. I sat in my vehicle parked right outside the restaurant, to eat my already cold food since I had a thirty minute drive. But as hungry as I am, the shrimp was just horrible. Then I really became livid when I realized that the cook had not added any of the usual anisette of Pernod to the creamed spinach and the oysters were overcooked underneath. AND, the cook had added way too much sherry to the lobster bisque, making it fairly inedible. So I called the restaurant to speak to the general manager. I finally got an answer by a girl who said she would get the manager. She put me on hold for over 15 minutes and came back finally to tell me that the manager was not available! That's when I really went off at the further abuse of holding so long and being told that. I said that I found it really hard to believe that there was no manager there to count money or lock up after employees would be leaving. She said she could take my name and # and someone would deal with it tomorrow! I was livid that I wasted all this time to drive there and now back for a really crappy, overpriced partial meal that I couldn't eat and now I'm going to have to save this food in my cooler & deal with working all tomorrow & having to take my time & energy to explain all of this AGAIN & drive 30 min each way AGAIN to get a refund IF they even give me one & I'm even still in town! I shouldn't have to deal with this at a restaurant that is supposed to have a well-trained staff, but instead, has lazy cooks that cut corners & don't pay attention to details because they want to focus on cleaning up & leaving & end up wasting lots of my time, energy & gas while creating stress & anger. No thanks. (The next day & no manager called back, so they lie as well.) read more

Pros: 1) We stopped in for an imromptu dinner at 7pm on a Saturday for a party of seven and were seated within 5 minutes. 2) Entree presentation was beautiful and everyone was very pleased with the selection and freshness of the seafood. 3) Front of house staff was very welcoming and pleasant. Cons: 1) We were seated on the lower level behind the staircase, so we couldn't even see water or a window from our table. When you go to a restaurant on the water, it probably has something to do with the ambiance of being on the water. 2) It took over an hour and a half to be served our entrees. 3) The price was steep...the check for four people with a 15% tip was $190 (4 entrees + 2 glasses of wine @ $8 each + 2 sodas). That's $47.50 per person. 4) Our waiter was pleasant, but he didn't do a great job of clearing items from the table...empty glasses, empty bread baskets, empty plates. If I could give zero stars all around I would. First off waiter Lorenzo had an issue from the very start. There were no tables available so we were left standing waiting on a table to be cleaned. No problem, I understand it gets busy. But the chip on his shoulder was even more evident when it took him 20 minutes just to come ask if we wanted a drink. We didn't want a drink but we still didn't have a food menu either. He took another 10 minutes to bring us food menus. By the time our food came we had been in house and seated for an hour already. I ordered medium well, she ordered medium. Both came back disgustingly undercooked. We bring it to Lorenzo attention who then walks out plates thru the restaurant and upstairs to show a manage. After our plates were done with their field trip they decide to put the same undercooked and now dusty steaks and cook them some more. This time when brought back the out side of the steak was cooked to a crust. All in all worse experience than I could have ever imagined. It's as if you're the cat in those fancy feast commercials and you are eating the finest foods. It's the money you spend that leads you to believe it is the best tuna EVER. Really though? It's pretty good on select menu items, but NOT every item. The cocktails? Go broke or go home. I paid my $10 bucks for tasty liquor and didn't regret it. It was better than dessert, in fact come to think of it my drink did actually kind of taste like a dessert. Appetizers? I did the best of soup. 3 soups and 2 were heavy on cream, the other was a chilled gazpacho. It was a good sampler but that's about it....just good to sample. Entree? Best of shrimp. The fried coconut shrimp lacked a coconut taste and seemed more fried shrimp than anything. The dipping sauce was a nice addition to taste though. The entree was a 3.5 and honestly, forgettable. I can't remember much more about it by the time it came time for my review. What does stick in mind was the atmosphere. Staff from the wait staff to the bartender were pros. We had the avocado mango crab stack and I think the mango was over ripe or this had been prepped too long. The coconut shrimp was delicious and presented well. Let me preface this by saying that I worked at the chart house in Ft. lauderdale, and I expected the worst when I came here. I went this weekend for my grandmothers memorial reception because it was her favorite place in town. I was more than pleasantly surprised with not only the food and drinks, but also the service and atmosphere. We had a private room downstairs but also had access to the bar and patio. The food came out on time and was hot, fresh, and frequently refilled. The servers were so kind and kept our drinks full and promptly brought bar drinks when ordered. Hopefully I can add a better review after our meal, however I had a reservation for a table at the window and it was given away to somebody who just walked in. The reason that I asked this question and one person at the reception desk said yes. I am not at all happy about it and I think it is a very shifty way to run a business. I was ignored for even longer at the front door until finally a very caring young lady who works there came over to me and apologized. People were coming in and getting seated and I was being ignored. She could tell that I was not happy at all with the lack of service that I got. By the way, no one mentioned that they would not seat me without both people in my party. If this is the case, that should have been told to me, instead of ignoring me. Besides, had I been seated, I would have ordered a drink to relax and wait for my friend, which is more sales for the restaurant and I knew that she was only going to be a bit late. I asked to speak with the manager. He showed up a few minutes later and did nothing but argue with me and have an attitude. In my opinion, he must be related to the owner or something, because he would not keep his job with the attitude he had. It had me totally turned off about having dinner. Had my friend not already been on her way, I would have left. So eventually I was seated. 35 minutes after I arrived and 30 minutes after the time I had a reservation. Maddy the young woman from the reception desk could not have been more accommodating and apologetic. Between her and our waiter Jonathon it saved the evening. The food was decent our service was exceptional. I will not recommend nor will I come back because of how I was treated from the beginning. it's unacceptable and a great way to lose future business. Very nice restaurant with good food, professional fine dining service, and stunning waterfront views. The mojito flight was refreshing and had a very attractive presentation. I tried the Caesar salad and filet mignon with a side of grilled shrimp; both very tasty and satisfying. To finish off the meal I shared a mini lava cake, which was a little too sweet, rich, and firm for what I expected. It had been a while since we had been there. It was a place where we often went for special occasions. It was always good. However, on our recent visit in March of 2023, we were appalled by the poor service. We waited for quite a while to get a server, and after placing our drink order, we had another long wait for them to arrive. After placing our food order we waited for over an hour and we had not been served. I sought the manager and told him of our displeasure. After talking to him we were finally served and the food was good, but then again no service for our desserts. In all, we were there for almost 3 hours. I can't believe how that restaurant has degraded. The manager had no follow-up after I talked to him. They need a new manager or something needs to be done to restore it to its former glory. Our Valentine dinner was great. Started with a classic jumbo shrimp cocktail. They were out of dry ice so we did not get the fancy presentation but it tasted just as good as always. I ordered blackened Mahi Mahi with a jalapeno salsa, rice, and mixed veggies. My meal was so delicious that I took my time to savor every bite. They also have a nice wine list. I wanted to go to this location for some time and finally went last night. Loved the reservation system as they texted me a couple of times during the week and then to confirm the day before. Got there are were seated promptly and at a great location. Next time will request next to a window. The four of us had assorted menu items and i started with the shrimp cocktail which was really good. The wife had the mahi and i had the strip cooked Pittsburgh Medium Rare. Another had the crusted salmon and another with a fish dish. Everyone was completely satisfied and i also loved my Crown Manhattan up. The best dining decision that I had made while in Daytona was to make reservations for CH! The restaurant itself it's breathtaking! The entire venue is beautiful on the inside and out. Located on the intracoastal, the boats are docked surrounding the restaurant. We were seated immediately when arriving for our reservation and they even printed custom menus for our occasion, which happens to be our first wedding anniversary. Our waiter Derrick was incredible! Super nice and outgoing! Even though the restaurant was busy, he took our time to tell us about the city and the history. The drinks were strong and delicious, the food was incredible! Every single bite was delightful. Bittersweet moment was when the food is soooo good and you push yourself towards one more bite then there's no room left for dessert! Bummer, next time I want to try their chocolate lava cake! Do not go here. Staff is not trained on allergen protocol!Went for a birthday dinner. We noted I had a gluten allergy in the reservation notes and were given the gluten free menu. After ordering off of the provided GF menu and reminding the server that I had a gluten allergy with celiac, I was given a side with bread crumbs on top of the dish. The dish did not list the bread crumbs on the veggie on either menu. When the waitress came over and confirmed, she took the dish away with no apology and replaced the side. When we ordered the waitress mentioned the hot lava dessert and that it needed 30 minutes so we immediately ordered it. There were three of us. Had a nice waterfront view even with no reservation. We had crab stuffed shrimp, crusted mahi, and ahi tuna. Food was good although the crab stuffing could have been warmer and more cooked. Salad was really good too. Beer selection was lacking. After our meal we eagerly awaited our special dessert which btw would be free because we had a coupon. And we waited and waited and waited. It finally came and guess what the cake and hot fudge was barely warm and the ice cream was frozen solid. Really disappointing. When we mentioned it to the waitress she offered another dessert because she couldn't fix it and it would take another 30 minutes. Oh and she said she would compensate us by taking it off our bill! What? It was already to be free. Our whole evening was ruined because of the dessert issue. And she really didn't care.
