Went there tonight with some out of town friends and Chart House did a wonderful job! The waiter William was attentive but also allowed us to take our time. The food was wonderful, 2 of us had salmon which I hear was excellent. The other two had shrimp which I can personally testify was very flavorful. The manager, a tall man named Brian stopped by and checked in to make sure everything was great! That's always a nice touch. The view of the bay was incredible and the ambiance top-notch! A Monterey Peninsula Favorite with Friends, Food & a View! Tonight we enjoyed The Chart House with our good friends Stuart and Jenny Nice--and what a wonderful evening! We were blessed with a window table overlooking the sea. Honestly, if the view were any better, they'd have to charge us admission! I enjoyed the swordfish with mashed potatoes and the salad bar, while Valerie had the salmon with green beans and a chopped salad. Everything was delicious, and Sarah was an awesome server! For the second year in a row, the manager came out to greet us. She is one of the warmest and most welcoming people you could ever meet. That personal touch means a lot! Tasty or WasteY???? Totally TASTY!!!!! Decided to stop and have dinner... we loved it. The atmosphere was perfect. There were many families with their children, which felt great, because we had our grandson with us. They sat us by the window so he could look out at the beach. The service there was top notch. Our meals were perfect. And because my husband steak was slightly overcooked they made him the entire meal over. I couldn't believe it. The manager was so so sweet to us. She constantly walked around asking if everybody's food was OK. The prices were perfect for what you get. It's one of the cleanest restaurants. I've been to in Monterey. Visited Chart House for dinner while visiting the area and it was a good experience. We made a reservation last-minute, and requested a seat by the window. We checked in a few minutes early and were told that we would need to wait a little longer for a table with a view. The host that checked us in was very kind and friendly, although I didn't catch her name. The restaurant was surprisingly not super busy for a Friday night although several tables were occupied. It wasn't our first time dining at this restaurant. Service was friendly, but a bit slow. I'm not sure if they were understaffed, but I expected our server to check in more frequently and it took a while to get our check. The dinner menu has several options for entrees and appetizers. We opted to share a crunchy coconut shrimp dish and order separate entrees (salmon & chicken). We also ordered a side of sizzling mushrooms and a hot chocolate lava cake. The coconut shrimp dish was alright, I liked the dipping sauces that were included. But the quantity of shrimp was lackluster and the coconut breading was crispier than expected. The sous vide roasted chicken was good, and the portions were reasonable. I liked the mashed potatoes and the chicken was cooked well, a bit bland but the gravy/sauce helped. They also included 2 pieces of asparagus, which was okay, but one piece was mostly burnt and I was not a fan. The salmon was tasty although the fillet had some tiny bones which needed to be removed. Both dishes lacked a bit of salt and pepper. The sizzling mushrooms were tasty although I thought the portion was too small for $10. We finished our meal with a hot chocolate lava cake which was warm and comforting. The vanilla ice cream and pieces of heath bar crunch were good. It was a bit too sweet, so we couldn't finish it, but enjoyed the dessert for the most part. Our dinner was under $150 after tax and tip, but a bit pricier than expected. It may make sense to order the $61 set meal which includes a starter (soup or salad), an entree, and a mini lava cake. I ordered mine grilled with olive oil and the hubby ordred the chart your course which included a salad (he got the salad bar) and dessert!!! Both were absolutely delicious! I rarely leave negative reviews, but after dining at Chart House in Monterey on Sunday, I felt compelled to share our experience. When we arrived, I asked our waiter about the calamari. He recommended it and said it was one of their popular appetizers. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the worst calamari dishes I've ever had. The plate was filled with fried batter crumbs, soggy strips of vegetables, and a few fried carrot pieces, with very little actual calamari. What calamari was there was extremely chewy--so much so that my daughter actually choked on a piece. It also wasn't properly coated. It looked like everything had simply been dumped into one large bowl of batter, causing all the pieces to stick together before being thrown into the fryer. I've worked in the seafood industry for over 20 years, and this was honestly some of the worst calamari I've ever been served. The prime rib sandwich was equally disappointing. It resembled thin-sliced deli roast beef rather than freshly carved prime rib. The bread tasted stale even after being toasted, the onions were burnt, and the fries were golden brown but soggy, almost as if they had been refried. The fish tacos were another letdown. My wife only managed to eat one. The fish appeared to be a low-quality, sustainable white fish that looked and tasted like tilapia. For a restaurant sitting on the Pacific Ocean, I expected fresh local seafood--not something that tasted frozen and generic. The seasoning was little more than paprika and coarse black pepper, while the salsa consisted of chopped tomatoes and onions with almost no flavor. The cabbage garnish also tasted old and wilted. The avocado toast initially looked promising, but even that was disappointing because the thin multigrain bread tasted stale before it was toasted. What surprised me just as much as the food was the service. Throughout our meal, no one stopped by to ask how everything was or whether we were enjoying our food. I understand restaurants can be short-staffed, and our waiter was also tending the bar, but checking on guests is a basic part of dining service. When he finally returned, it wasn't to ask about our meal--it was to hand us the bill and tell us about the rewards program. I then had to track him down at the bar just to pay. The building itself is beautiful, and the waterfront location is hard to beat. Unfortunately, the food simply doesn't match the setting. From the seafood to the meat, nearly everything we ordered was below expectations. In my opinion, this restaurant survives largely because of its location and the steady stream of tourists. There are much better places to eat in Monterey. I left extremely disappointed and will be sharing my experience on other review platforms as well. read more

They have happy house Monday to Friday from 4-6 pm . The prime rid sliders is a hit ! We came here on dinner and the earliest reservation we could get was 7:45 pm on a Saturday! We ordered some cocktails and the 10 ounces prime rib cut ! Originally we were going to order some seafood and the prime ribs. However, we got prime ribs only because we love their prime rib so much and would rather stick to the steaks . The prime ribs were medium rare and I asked for more on the rare side . It was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection. We had ordered different cocktails and they were great . Our waiter was very friendly, attentive and check on us often . Parking is hard in this area . We parked in the paid parking lot near by . There were only a few spots available even it was $15 paid parking. The restaurant has a club membership so that you can get priority access to reservations. This time we forget to bring the membership card so we got a 7:45 pm reservation. I ordered the mac nut halibut and wow it was amazing; it was flakey, cooked perfectly and not at all fishy! He ordered the swordfish and he said it was delicious! Beautiful Views, But a Major Miss on the Food I've been to a number of Chart House locations over the years and have generally had great experiences, so I was excited to visit the Monterey spot. The location and views are, as expected, stunning. However, the experience with the food was unfortunately a real letdown, starting with the fresh raw oysters. While the oysters themselves seemed to be of fine quality, the shucking was honestly terrible. Several of them had fragments of shell and even some mud left on the edges. The adductor muscle wasn't released on the bottom of any of them, so I found myself having to awkwardly cut each one loose and flip it over myself before I could eat it. The most glaring issue was one oyster that had a hole completely smashed through the bottom of the shell, and it was full of shell fragments. It was completely inedible. I pointed this out to our server, and to their credit, they were very professional about it. They promptly brought out a single replacement oyster, and this one was perfect--beautifully shucked, muscle released, and properly turned. It showed me what should have been served in the first place. Moving on from the appetizers, the rest of the meal was also hit-or-miss. The salad bar was nice and had a good selection. Unfortunately, our main entrees didn't fare as well. My halibut was dry, and my boyfriend's prime rib was surprisingly tasteless. Ultimately, the best part of our dinner was the nice view. While the service recovery on the oyster was appreciated, it's disappointing to have such fundamental errors in preparation and execution from a restaurant like Chart House, from the appetizers through the main courses. The ahi was very good. The bokchoy and Fukaki rice were both bland. Get the mashed potatoes subbed instead. I really only ate the tuna. But that was ok cuz their salad bar was really very good. I was full just on that. I appreciate that they have a choice of lettuce or spinach (I'm not a fan of lettuce). I made myself a huge salad, they have ALL the fixings. Including premade salads. The shrimp crab Asian salad was fantastic. Caviar, anchovies, marinaded mushrooms, artichokes, and more and more. It was a feast. I'd go here again maybe just for the salad bar. $29 ala carte or $19 with entree. $210 for 3 entrees each with salad bar, and tax. Not including tip, only ice water to drink. Just had dinner there and was very disappointed. One of the unique features of the Chart House is its salad bar. My reservation was at 7:00. The place was very busy. By the time I got to the salad bar almost every item was nearly empty. And what was left looked terrible. They needed to have some staff member look after it. I thought about asking my waitress to mention it to the kitchen staff but it shouldn't be up to a customer to ask them to do their job. I had a reservation for the next day but canceled. Extremely disappointing experience. We were seated at a table and then, after we had already sat down, we were told that someone else had also booked the same table. We were basically left confused and told to sit down while they figured it out. If a reservation was already made, the staff should have had that organized before seating us. The whole situation felt extremely unprofessional and poorly managed. We came expecting a nice experience, especially considering the price, but instead we were made to feel like an inconvenience. There should be better communication between the staff and whoever handles reservations. As many times as my husband and I have visited Monterey, this was the first time trying Chart House. It was my birthday so I really wanted something special. We showed up at our reserved time and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was super friendly and accommodating for our meal requests. The place was pretty busy, but service was great. The decor is absolutely beautiful, filled with rich woods that gave it a very romantic cozy feel. Since I had already had seafood for lunch, I decided to try the prime rib and OMG, it was amazing. It was cooked at the perfect medium, and was so tender and flavorful. I added a loaded baked potato, which topped it all off. The lobster bisque and clam chowder were top notch and both delicious. Just a short walk from our hotel Clement, who went out for a late dinner. It's my wife's birthday weekend so wanted a nice dinner. We didn't arrive till about 8:30 at night so we were easily seated at a window table on the bay. We did have high expectations with chart house and they fully disappointed. The views were awesome but that was about it. The halibut was good but nothing impressive. The steak was overly rare (deep purple in the middle) despite asking for it to be medium. Once we got our food we never saw our server again. We ate the halibut and half the prime rib (each outside) and continued to sit there waiting for the server, for about 20-30mins. We saw the manager talking to other tables nearby. Another server stopped and said it looked like we needed something and we mentioned we haven't seen our server since our food was delivered (and didn't see him at any other table) but we had ordered the lava cake and said if it's ready we will take it to go and if not then cancel the order and will take our bill. The other server walked to the manager talked to them. Then the other server brought us the bill (lava cake on it) and asked if anything else. We said the lava cake to go since it's on the bill. We literally got a "you already said that." We paid the bill, got the lava cake to go and left still without our server coming back. The manager also never checked on us despite us walking right past him when we left. Very disappointed in chart house service. The steak, it happens. Many of the dishes tasted similar to standard chain-restaurant fare, and nothing particularly stood out for me aside from the mud pie (though I'll admit anything sugary usually wins me over). Not sure where to start here. Overall the experience was not bad but it definitely wasn't great. Our starters of the crispy tuna was 80% rice (without seasoning) and 20% spicy tuna that did not really taste fresh at all- skip this. I ordered the "chefs special" miso black cod and it was so incredibly bland and the bed of vegetables could have been a frozen mic from trader joe's. Maybe it was just my dish because everyone else liked their meals (lamb and steak), but man don't recommend the chef's special, OR hype it as the special for that matter, if it is going to be poorly executed. I will say the Mud pie was so yummy and I would actually go back to order just that hahaha. They messed up our creme brulee so they gave us a free hot chocolate lava cake (also chefs special go figure) and it was dry and not very good- probably why it was free.
