Yummy drinks and food, kind service. Indoor or outdoor seating, cute tiki menu. Pricey but feels like a getaway and is good quality at least! The vibes are very cute.

Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Drinks: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Parking: 4/5 Second time at Hula's, and I'm a fan. Good food and drinks. Hazen was our server, and he was great. Price is what you'd expect in Monterey, and while often paid, the parking is everywhere.

Hulas is a favorite tiki bar and restaurant. Never had a bad meal here from the burger to Hawaiian plates you can't go wrong. Don't get me started on the cocktails. Come for happy hour, all day Tuesdays or wear aloha wear on Thursday for specials. If it's a long wait on the weekend there is a speakeasy next door where they have some of their cocktails on menu. Great service and has both indoor and outdoor seating. I've only sat inside because I love the tiki vibe. Come early to avoid the crowd and get lit on some good tiki drinks.

Super cute tiki bar with amazing food and themed drinks! Was able to be seated right away and waitress was nice and helpful in making suggestions for most ordered drinks. A nice place to stop by along Cannery Row

110% wish I could give them more stars. We just happened to see this place on list from our hotel as places to eat. Best price for happy hour appetizers food & drinks-great service ( Kelly) was so sweet & check to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely worth a 2nd or 3rd. Visit The crispy coconut shrimp rolls come with 4 pieces ( pictured only showing 2.),

The decor in here is awesome! Even just coming in from the street, it looks exciting outside already with tiki decor, indoors and there also an outdoor patio in the back with colorful lights for a festive vibe. Well done! There's a mug cabinet display in the left side room near the kitchen. No mugs for sale. Lots of cocktail choices like regular or double (bigger glass) or premium cocktails. Some come in legit tiki mugs Lots of food options whic is appreciated for a tiki bar. Burger was enjoyable and I coul put in my own lettuce tomato onions. Got sweet potato fries on the side. Drinking food DRINKS- -hurricane: strong! Bitter -zombie: classic tiki choice. also strong! Prefer this more than hurricane

Feelin the Tiki vibes. Of course the booze helps...

Really liked the ambiance of this place. Spicy edamame lived up to its name. Good stiff drinks! Tuna tacos were good.

Stopped here for lunch while in Monterey. We went to the one in Santa Cruz a couple of years ago and liked it. I would say overall, it's solid. Food: We had the fish sandwich, the pork sandwich, and the chicken plate. Everything was pretty good. We found the bread on the sandwiches to be a little crumbly, which meant they kind of turned into a mess, but the flavor was good on both. I felt like the salads that came with them had way too much dressing on them. The coleslaw on the chicken plate tasted full on like ginger which I thought was too too, but our other diner enjoyed it. Drinks: We ordered two. Both were reasonably good. A little bit of a " from a mix" ish, but drinkable. I'm picky about drinks, so this is actually a compliment. Service: service was solid. Ambience: I like what they're going for here, but they could step it up a little bit. First of all, it was ridiculously cold in there and we had to wear our coats while eating indoors. We actually might've done better to sit outside near a space heater. The outer patio is actually quite nice. The indoor decor is cute although they need to lose the T-shirts hanging from the ceiling as it just looks tacky. They were literally blasting music and the playlist was super distracting and it' sort of made it hard to carry on a conversation. Basically we ended up talking about the music throughout most of the lunch hour. Lots of dance versions of retro 70s and 80s hits. A little mystifying. Why don't they just play Hawaiian music? Definitely family friendly. You'll have to park on the street or find a paid lot somewhere as they don't have their own lot; we didn't have a problem, but during peak season you might. And it's only one hour allowed on the street fyi. Oh we also ordered the mac & cheese appetizer and it was really good, very cheesy and creamy. I was somewhere between a three and a four but I'm rounding down due to the temperature and the music.

We decided to come to Hula's for dessert after spending some time on Cannery Row. The ambiance of this place is great and the lighting and vibe are perfect for a date night. All of the desserts seemed delicious but we settled on the Ohana Pie for $15. This pie is Oreo cookie crust, ice cream (the flavor changes and this day it was chocolate fudge brownie), whipped cream, macadamia nuts, and hot fudge. The dessert was so delicious! It was exactly what I wanted and a large serving that was perfect for the both of us. I have absolutely no complaints about the food. The service however was bad. There is a bar in one room and additional bar style seating in another. We took a seat at the bar style seating (not the actual bar) since it was self seating and the restaurant was mildly busy. It took a while for a waitress to come up to us and take our order. When she did we made it clear that we just wanted to dessert to split and a couple glasses of water. When she brought the dessert out 15 minutes later she brought our check out with it. I took a bite of the dessert and then immediately put my card down so that she could take it whenever she came back. She did not check on us again for a full 40 minutes. The only reason she ended up coming up to us is because I was turned in my barstool waiting for her with the bill in my hand. We wanted to ask for napkins since we were eating what was essentially ice cream cake and didn't even get those until we were actively leaving. The dessert was good, but I hate when a restaurant offers self seating and then does not do a good job actually servicing it. I don't know if that was the reason the service was so terrible or if it was because we were only ordering dessert. It was disappointing to feel like we were being ignored by our waitress when she was incredibly attentive to other tables.

Everything was delicious from start to finish. We had a crab cake, Khalbi, and the macadamia crusted halibut- fantastic island flavors on every plate. Each drink I tried was skillfully crafted to not be too sweet or overly boozy and hit just right paired with the food. Our server was kind, respectful and quick to help offer suggestions, though I didn't catch their name. The vibe is so fun, I'm so glad we came in!

    Cal L.

Food here was pretty solid. Service was really good. I came here with the family and we walked away pretty filled up. If I have one complaint, it's that some of the food was on the bland side. We made the mistake of ordering some sides, which came with the other entrees that we already ordered. I wish the server would have told us this, but it's our own fault for not being more attentive. Also, we made the decision to sit outside. I think that was the wrong call, because there were a lot of flies. Everybody inside looked happy, and the police was well ventilated. We should've sat inside. All in all, if you're looking for Hawaiian food, it's hard to beat this place. There aren't that many good choices. We look forward to coming back! Thank you guys.

The food is amazing. I had the Kalbi Ribs with a side of Kimchi and my husband had the Fish Tacos the staff here is very courteous and on it! The Ambiance speaks for itself. Spectacular!

    Do they take reservations?

    yes, they do.

Yes, they have a pet friendly patio in the back. You can also order a meat patty or grilled chicken breast for your pup.

You're better off going somewhere else to spend your money. The service was subpar. No one acknowledges you when you walk in the door. At the end after over a $350 bill they refused to give us a plastic bag to go home. I offered to pay for it, but they had an attitude about it. They don't even know how to make spicy edamame. It's just soy sauce and grilled onions. The only waitress that was actually helping people was the Hispanic lady. Everyone else just stands and stares at you like they are a statue. You're better off going to Kokoro in Salinas. At least they give you better service and some flavor.

I was craving boba & was happy to find something in this area particularly on my way to the hotel. I mean home made boba with quality ingredients? Say lesss... I loved it so much I came back a second time before heading home that trip AND came back a third time this year with my extended family cus I knew it would hit the spot. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with any drink. You can customize the sweetness level and pick from a variety of flavors. I did the giant lemonade for the aunties in the car and it was GIANT lol, it was enough for all 3 of them and my daughter to share. I was honestly surprised to read a few negative reviews because WHAT? The first time I ordered some egg rolls I mentioned to the staff that I think it might have been a bad batch because my daughter and I thought it tasted spoiled maybe? And she immediately addressed the situation and apologized and was truly worried. She told me I got you, the next time I come back but I told her I was from the Bay and she mentioned they moved from the 209. She also ensured us that they make it fresh in house and surprised me and gave me a FRESH new order even though I initially declined. This is a family owned business and they let me feel like family too. I tried the pandan cake on my second trip on the way home and ughhh sooo good. I wasn't gonna do it but I heard another customer come in saying she comes in just for that and I knew I had to try it. It has the perfect sweetness, a little dense but still soft and fluffy. The icing wasn't overly sweet. I'd take a whole cake for my birthday lol. I think I also read another review talking about the donuts being raw? Idk, but it sounds like this person has never had a MOCHI donut lol. Anyways, can't wait to come back for more drinks, more snacks, and that cake!

I actually was not that hungry but after discussion of the dish with the owners I just had to sample it right then. I ordered it to go but not even kidding I almost ate all three pieces it was that good. Oh my goodness, hands down some of the very best Fish N Chips I ever ate. Nice plateful with three good size pieces. The batter is flavorful with just the right amount of crunch. The vinegrette sauce with aioli mayo and a mix of spices makes the fishes flavors blend very nicely. Cambodian crunchy slaw is a very tasty pairing. Maybe just a tad on the salty side but otherwise perfect. A good helping of narrow fries as well. Definitely enough food to be shareable if you are able to or even want to. I will be looking forward to returning for the light flavorful Alaskan cod at Cong N Go as long as they continue to serve it. Thanks so much for an excellent and very enjoyable afternoon meal. The food here overall is amazing and all of you looking for a change of pace have to stop by and sample the menu.

I usually only do positive reviews, but I had to share how put-off I was with my family's…read moreexperience here. When we originally walked in there were very few parties seated. We had a party of nine. Shortly after we were seated, a party of well-dressed ladies that the employees seemed to be familiar with, so I can only guess they were "regulars", arrived. When we first got there, it was fine, but once the other party arrived, we were completely cast aside. We ordered two cups of coffee that we observed an employee walk around with for 20 minutes, stopping to chat , before he plopped it down on a counter before our server brought it to our table. Needless to say, it was already cold. As far as other drinks, we didn't order any. We all drank water and we weren't offered a refill literally until the end when we were almost done with our meal. They were tending to the other party the entire time. When I saw that the other party received all their meals before we did - even though we were there, seated and ordered before they were, I stopped what I can only guess was the manager (dare I say an owner?) and said, "Excuse me sir, we got here before the other party and they've already gotten their food, and we're still waiting." His response was not, "I'm sorry it's taking so long. Let me check on it." Or "I know it's been a while, your food is coming right out." He actually said to me in an irritated tone, "Well because they got all fried food and you got all grilled!" And walked away. And here's the kicker - all our food wasn't grilled. Most of us ordered salads. Granted one had chicken and one had salmon, but who says this to a customer? I honestly wouldn't have cared so much about getting our food after the other party had he responded differently but for someone in the food service industry to treat a customer that way is just gross; for someone to run a business that way is just gross. I wanted to walk out of there without paying, because honestly, the food was gross and the service made it even worse. We got an order of egg rolls (that were all lumpia wrapper with no meat, by the way), my Caesar salad? Every piece of lettuce in my salad was the core, so I pretty much picked out the chicken, and to top it off we ordered clams, which wasn't even part of the delay because they forgot to include it in the order all together. Don't even get me started about how he couldn't answer the question about the menu. I'm Filipino, and that was an insult to Filipino food and to Filipino hospitality. I have so many family and friends in the food service industry and for this reason, I have never given less than 20% gratuity. I cringed doing that here, but I honestly wanted to leave nothing. That's how bad the taste Edwin's left in my mouth. Do better next time. No matter who enters your restaurant, treat all your customers with some warmth, no matter who they are, even if they aren't your regulars, don't make out-of-towners feel like you're doing THEM a favor by LETTING you feed them. Everyone who enters your doors helps keeps your doors open. They have a lot of restaurant choices in the area. Don't make them regret choosing yours.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to that excitement. After being seated with menus, we waited about 15 minutes without anyone checking in, offering water, or asking for a drink order. It honestly felt like we had walked into a private gathering, as staff were engaged in long conversations with other tables. Since we were already pretty hungry and hadn't even received water, we decided to leave, so I can't comment on the food itself. This is a bit of a late review, as the visit happened just shy of New Year's Eve. To be fair, they may have been understaffed or we came on an off day, but it was still disappointing.
