This place caught me by surprise! I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and was blown away by the service and food. To start, I got the Welcome To Havana, which is a rum based drink with pineapple, fresh mint, and a couple other components. The pineapple and mint paired together perfectly and was the right balance of sweetness with a cool, clean finish. I got the Caesar salad first and swapped out the Caesar dressing for balsamic. It was good but nothing to write home about. For my main, I go the tavern steak frites cooked medium. The steak blew me away with both taste and flavor. While it was well seasoned, it was a tad salty for my preference. At the end of the day, who doesn't love a tender steak? Overall, I was incredibly pleased with the food and service and must give credit where it's due. Anytime I've ever had a server take my order without writing it down, it never comes out right. To my surprise, she somehow remembered all of our orders and did a stellar job on keeping up with the water refills. I can't wait to come back. read more

My boyfriend and I got dinner here this past Monday while using our comp hotel nights. We had no problem getting in without a reservation. We almost always choose bar seating when available, and this was no exception. Our waiter, whom we recognized from our last visit to Amerisports before it changed to Charter 18, provided top-notch service our entire visit. This place has a TON of tvs, so definitely a perfect place to gather for sports games, etc., but in a more upscale atmosphere. There was a good mix of people dressed casual (t shirt, athletic wear) and dolled up--anything goes. We started off with splitting the Caesar salad, which I'll likely skip next time. It was very basic, and I just wasn't blown away by the dressing (which is what makes a Caesar, duh). We also split the pretzel, which is a SHOWSTOPPER. It was giant, perfectly seasoned, accompanied by whole grain mustard with a kick, and a beer cheese sauce which was divine. We went back the following day just for another one! For our entree, we split the steak frites--another just so-so dish. The fries were seasoned nicely, and the steak was cooked properly, but nothing mind-blowing. Came here to say for bday lunch for my gf n her husband. Got cute free Bundt cake dessert. Service quick because we missed rush hr lunch. Got two cocktails, street nachos, potato skins and three cheese burger. Nachos so much shareable n to die for. Burgers big. Potatoe skins was just a baked potato cutt in half so just two skins fair warning. But this place is known for steak so I have to come back n try the signature meats on date night. This was my second visit to Charter 18, and I'm happy to say the food was just as impressive as the first time. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and got us seated and our order in quickly, even though we came in during the last hour before closing. I knew I had to order the Asian spring rolls again because they were so memorable the first time, and they were every bit as good as I remembered. I have photos from both visits, and the presentation and quality were almost identical. It's nice to see that level of consistency because that's something a lot of restaurants struggle with. The steak Caesar salad was excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly to my requested medium-well, tender, and packed with flavor. The chicken chipotle flatbread had caught my eye while looking through reviews before my visit, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The chicken sliders were also delicious, and while the fries were a little different than my first visit, they were still really good. The grilled asparagus was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of char, and the chicken potato skins were much larger than I expected--more like a baked potato cut in half than the smaller appetizer portions you usually get. Overall, this place has been consistently excellent both times I've visited. Great food, great service, generous portions, and a menu I'd gladly keep working my way through. Charter 18 has easily become one of my favorite places to eat inside Ameristar, and I'll definitely be back, stay tuned for the next update upload. read more

Great ambiance and a very attentive staff help make the dining experience so pleasant. They have happy hour specials and a full bar so there are plenty of options to satisfy almost everyone. The drinks are great and flavorful, the nachos were full of meat and cheese which make them so much better and it's enough for 2 to share. everything was going accordingly until I found a piece of PLASTIC IN MY BURGER, this is the first time I've ever found plastic at any of my food from any place even fast food places. It's really unfortunate because at the beginning of our meal we really enjoyed the coconut shrimp and drinks that we bought... I will say, on the manager's behalf, she apologized profusely and removed the burger from our bill, as well as gave us a free dessert. (I appreciated that a lot) Our server did a great job, she made sure we were constantly taken care of; checking up on us often and making sure the situation that came up was taken care of quickly. the ambience was very nice. It had clean tables, low volume music, TVs for sports and a nice vibe for going out on a date or having a group of friends out. Overall: I wish I could've given this place more stars, but after finding a piece of plastic in my meal, there is no excusing that or looking it over. read more

Hadn't been to Ameristar in over a year and came to eat at a different restaurant which wasn't open for the day yet. Saw this and thought why not, it's new! Completely redesigned from the original sports bar, the seating is comfortable, TVs throughout and viewable from any seat in the house, modern and very clean. No cocktails this day, but a Sweet Tea instead which was freshly brewed and balanced. Started with the Asian Chicken springrolls, 2 in the order. Filled with chicken and cheese, these were OK, needed a bit more flavor. For the meal, Chicken Chipotle flatbread, really enjoyed this! The crust was crispy and buttery, ample toppings and good flavor. The Baja ranch drizzle does a good job breaking up the richness in the cheese. With the appetizer, I could only finish 1/2 of it. We put our name in and waited about 45 minutes before we got a call. It was a Saturday so it's understandable, but the hosts were telling people that even if they were seated the kitchen was backed up so good is taking 45 minutes. We sat down anyway, and it did take a while. Our waitress was nice though it felt like it went by quickly. Our food came out before our appetizers, but the appetizers were brought out quickly after. We didn't eat much of them, and the manager took them off our bill as an apology. Thag was nice, and above and beyond since it was unprompted! The food was not great. The Margarita pizza was not like any Margherita pizza I've ever seen. It was just odd, it also just wasn't good flavor anyway. Hot honey chicken wings were good but super spicy. LOTS of tvs around, definitely an upper scale sports bar. It's a nice and clean renovation! Pretty inside, they just have some work to do. read more

We decided to try out Charter 18, one of the new restaurants inside Ameristar. Since they're still new, it seems like they weren't seating at full capacity, which honestly worked in their favor -- the kitchen wasn't backed up and the atmosphere felt relaxed. The staff was friendly and welcoming, though service was on the slower side. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that this is just part of the growing pains of a brand-new spot. What we ordered: Chili - 9/10 (really flavorful, one of the highlights) Clam Chowder - 8/10 (rich and hearty, solid choice) Hot Honey Wings - 8/10 (nice balance of sweet and heat) Chicken Sandwich with tots - 7/10 (the slaw was very wet and by the time it came out, the bun was soggy from sitting in the juices -- tasty but texturally off) Flatbread (chicken - can't remember the name) - according to my daughter, the best flatbread she's ever had Cheesesteak Sandwich - 7/10 (good, but nothing mind-blowing) There was a bit of a mix-up: we received a burger instead of the cheesesteak. They fixed it, but it meant waiting about another 20 minutes while the rest of the table's food was already served and cooling. Overall: The food had some real highlights (the chili and flatbread especially stood out), and the staff was nice even if the service was slow. With a little more time to settle in and iron out the kinks, I think Charter 18 could become a really solid dining option inside Ameristar. I'd definitely give it another shot in a few months to see how they've grown. read more

I got to eat at charter 18 the first month they were opened. My husband and I sat at the bar and had cocktails and split the hot honey pepperoni flat bread. The bartender was attentive and suggested the smoked old fashion that they smoked right Infront of him and I tried the Berry Luck because I'm a gin girly. It was very refreshing and he enjoyed his old fashion as well. The real star though was that hot honey pepperoni flat bread. Ever since we tried it the first time I wanted to go back and get it again because it was so good. A great portion size to share for sure. We came back to the bar again this week and happy we were able to get it to go. It was just as delicious as the first time we tried it. Highly recommend. read more

Don't! I got the lobster dip as a starter and that is where it went wrong. I sat at the bar around 2pm on a weekday and of course they were not busy. The bartender seemed bored and didn't provide basics like napkins. If you like cream cheese and thoughts of lobster then this dip is for you. The chips were not the freshest. If you're gonna used bag chips at least open a fresh bag for $15 a dish. I would not recommend this restaurant at all unless you're completely drunk and don't care what ya eat. Went to Charter 18 for brunch on Valentine's Day. We were greeted promptly and politely. The menu had great choices and not being able to decide on any one appetizer, we chose a sampler platter. Our server was prompt at getting our drinks, answered our questions, and taking our order. The apps were delicious! The crab dip, spring rolls, and cheese curds. I had the salmon and my husband had the smokehouse stack burger and both meals were wonderful and done just right. We both enjoyed watching the Olympics on the many TVs which surround the restaurant. My wife and I went to Charter 18 on Valentines Day. This is an awesome new sports bar at the Ameristar casino; we had a great time enjoying the winter Olympic while we ate. The food is great and our server did everything right. We got the sampler appetizer plater, a little bit of everything. I really like the crab dip, and the Crispy Asian chicken Spring rolls. The Crispy Asian Chicken Spring rolls are the best. My wife got the Sweet Heat Chicken; she was very pleased. She said it is crispy, spicy hot and really good. Her meal came with fries. We both really like their fries. I got the Crispy Stout-Battered Cod; 2 very big pieces of delicious cod. Great taste nicely battered. My side was coleslaw, and fries, good meal. Reasonable prices. Went at noon with a friend on a football Sunday. Food: Ordered Thai wings and a wedge salad. Both were pretty good. Overall, the prices are a little higher for the area, though it IS in a casino. Service: There were two barrenders working the bar. Neither of them were friendly nor were they efficient. Really shouldn't have to flag you down every time while sitting at a half filled bar. One capable person could have run the whole bar. Vibe: In short, pretty awful. Every NFL game was on, which was nice but they didn't have sound wired in. There was however, loud pop music being played throughout. Bartenders agreed that there should be sound, but management wouldn't do it. The food and our server were great. However we had a large group and the manager was extremely rude and was trying to refuse us from sitting together. We have been going on news years day for several years now and it has never been a problem. She said she has been the manager for 8 1/2 years and acted like we would have never been able to all sit togethe. Like pushing tables together was the most obsene thing she heard. Needless to say we will probably find a new New Years spot next year.And the restaurant was never full while we were there. read more

After 50 minutes of waiting for our food, the waiter came by and told us there was a problem with our order. 20 minutes later it came. My wife ordered a Thai wrap appetizer that cost $15. My wife is Thai and said this is bad, I cannot eat more or I will get sick. To me an appetizer is something that could be shared. There were two 3 inch by 1 inch round wraps. I had a $41 steak that was approx. 5 oz. and 1/4 inch thick that came with a sauce on it and a basket of fries that was McDonalds equivalent to small. To be completely honest, I will NEVER be back to this establishment. We had a very large birthday party and only ONE waitress that was trying her best. Not only did we wait an hour just for drinks and longer for food. As I went to the restroom, they gave away my food order to someone else at the table that did not even order yet because they had just arrived so I know it wasn't really a mix up, just poor service. I was then brought the wrong food & the fill-in "manager" came over and ruined my entire experience by trying to prove a point after I asked for the food just to be taken off my bill. I had never been treated that poorly in an upscale restaurant by someone filling in and obviously overwhelmed. That short male working Tuesday night does NOT need to be in hospitality AT ALL! I ended up leaving the restaurant and my group early because I was beyond frustrated. As I closed my bill, the server even apologized to me for how that guy treated me which is completely backwards if you ask me. Poor management, poor staffing, poor service. read more
