For the starter we ordered the shrimp cocktail and they were really good! The cocktail sauce had the perfect amount of kick to it. The shrimp was big and we definitely would get it again. For our entrees we both ordered the filet that came with broccoli and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly and everything was perfectly seasoned! The service was exceptional! I've come here twice for date night and my boyfriend and I love it! Main Street itself is so lovely and romantic at night but The Main House also has a great elevated casual romantic vibe. We had great drinks, a cocktail - he got the blackberry lemon drop martini and mocktail for me - I recommend the White Wine Spritz. Then split the Brussels sprouts which were incredible! This restaurant knocks it out of the park on charm, but truly this entire part of St. Charles looks like I walked straight into a scene of a Hallmark movie. And I don't even like or watch Hallmark movies but being here makes me think I might want to (not really, but sort of) Anyway, the location is great with views of brick streets in front and the river in the back. The service was stellar with a friendly server who was absolutely attentive and accommodating. The cocktails were some of my favorite! My favorite cocktail is a penicillin. My second favorite is a sidecar (I'm an old school-kind-of-gal) and they had BOTH on the menu. I live in Philly and I have found only one place that features a penicillin on their cocktail menu so I am usually asking the bartender if they can make one and if ginger syrup is not on hand I'm out luck. The server told me that this was house-made ginger and truly this is one of the best penicillin's I've ever had! I ordered the oysters and they were definitely fresh served with house-made horseradish and they were delicious, albeit really small. I should have asked but I'm used to big sized oysters especially, for $18, but like I said, they were very tasty! Truffle fries were good and so were the shaved Brussels! We found the restaurant doing a Google search. Lovely part of St Charles with a fun history of the building. Our server was Katie who was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had lower expectations just knowing how busy this place is being right on Main St and going on such a beautiful evening. We were beyond blown away by our experience! Our server Kaylee was fantastic. So attentive and making sure our food came in a timely manner but nicely spaced out to give us time to enjoy. All of our food was delicious, the chicken wings were perfect and everyone loved them and the Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly. Everyone in our party loved their main courses as well. They even made our daughter feel so special and helped us celebrate her 9th birthday with a delicious treat and candle! We all said we will be back and bring our friends and family. This restaurant is really fantastic. We came to St. Charles this time around for the Christmas Traditions Festival. I knew I'd need a reservation to come here, so I booked well in advance. We were seated in the main dining room and it was so cozy, beautiful ambiance. I ordered their chocolate orange martini from the holiday cocktail menu and it did not disappoint. Another first time WIN for the books. My goal is to knock out everything on Main Street so I was pretty excited to try this spot. Upon pulling up, I thought it was like a store , didn't really look like a restaurant, but I was pretty impressed with how nice the seats were and the decor. When we walked in, they weren't too crowded and we were immediately greeted and taken to the seat. I requested booth and they set up in line with no problems so I really like that. They had brunch menu and regular menu so we decided to try something from each. I had the fried chicken sandwich and my friend had the waffles and breakfast slider. We decided to try the fried chicken sandwich, waffle, breakfast slider and the ravioli as an appetizer as I'm making my goal to try everybody's ravioli in St. Louis lol. The ambiance is absolutely adorable. I love the feel. I love everything about them, repurposing something historic and making it quaint yet upscale. The service was wonderful. The server was very knowledgeable about all things on the menu presented us with the off menu specials for the night information over everything offered with it. It was wonderful. They have great wine selections. Great beer selections very impressed with everything. The only negative was this was my cheat meal and I got the chicken Alfredo and the pasta was not very flavorful. The chicken was prepared nicely. It was grilled it was delicious. I was expecting maybe a little bit more flavor to the chicken which could've helped with the pasta, but the pasta was very bland. Got a Yelp alert regarding soup restaurants nearby. It was 15 degrees and I happened to be on main street and yelp said their French onion soup was supposed to be very good so we stopped in and ordered 2 soups and split a roasted butternut squash and beat salad with pine nuts and feta as well as a southern fried chicken sandwich. The French onion soup was amazing! As close as I recall the original Famous Barr restaurant soup was years ago. The salad was ok. Don't know why they chose to purée the butternut squash after roasting it, but that I think would've been better having the roasted bite with the beats. But the southern fried chicken sandwich was delicious. Highly recommend. And the Service was great. read more

We really enjoyed our first visit to The Main House. We chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful evening. You can see Frontier Park & the river from the patio. The inside looked quaint and inviting with lots of wood framing the dining area. We were greeted warmly by everyone and our server and others gave us lots of attention and were very kind. We chose the hanger steak & tenderloin as our entrees. They were both phenomenal, but we agreed the tenderloin was just perfection. The mashed potatoes served with the tenderloin really sealed that choice as well. It's the best steak & potatoes I've had at a restaurant in a long while. This was about the only restaurant open on a Sunday late afternoon during Christmas season in St. Charles old town. Appreciated the fact that it was open, but probably would not usually choose this for eats on our visit. Expensive, but if you're looking for more upscale dining, this would be a good choice. The Main House was a most fabulous "woops". My boyfriend and I were trying to make reservations at a different restaurant in which we had recently dined and enjoyed but we couldn't remember the name. So we searched for outdoor dining in St. Charles. We thought this was it and made a reservation. As we were walking to our intended destination we passed The Main House and thought "oh, this looks good" and quickly realized our mistake. Reservation was definitely necessary to secure outdoor dining but there appeared to be room inside. I ordered the beet and butternut squash salad. My boyfriend got the wedge. They had some delicious sounding specials but I took a risk and ordered the filet. I'm incredibly picky about how my steak is prepared but I had a feeling this was a good bet. The service was friendly and attentive. Food was served by kitchen staff so it never sat under a warmer and wait time was minimal even on a busy night. This was the absolute best steak I have ever had in my life. The outside was seared with just a hint of grill char and the inside was the stuff of steak dreams. Absolute perfection. My date got the Halibut special and was equally impressed. We got the flourless chocolate torte with cherries for dessert and immediately added this restaurant to a new regular favorite. I'm learning that St. Charles fine dining has more choices than I thought but The Main House should be on everyone's must try list. read more

I went to the main house with my mother-in-law around 10:30. They were serving their regular menu along with a small brunch menu. The service was great and we got seated very quickly. We were enjoying a beautiful sunny afternoon - after several days of rain - in the beautiful old section of St Charles along the river. We stopped at The Main House for lunch and were seated at some great seats on the patio with views of the street and down towards the river. There were four of us (my wife and I, along with her sister and brother-in-law). Our waiter was fantastic. He kept telling us that The Main House's fries were the best on the street (they were pretty darn good). Overall - fantastic service and excellent food. My husband and I have dined at the Main House a handful of times. It is a quaint restaurant on Main Street in Historic Saint Charles. We had a reservation at 6 PM but arrived early at 5 PM and were seated immediately. This visit, I ordered their Risotto and my husband ordered the Hanger steak. In the past, I have ordered their roasted chicken (very good) and their chicken Alfredo (I would not order that again). The chicken on my risotto was tender and seasoned well, but the texture of the risotto seemed a bit undercooked. My husband has ordered the hanger steak every time and it never disappoints. Walking down Main St on a chilly afternoon with my husband. Wanted a little something and discovered the new Main House (in the Mother in law house). Anyway, we were quickly greeted and seated. Oh, the cheese was so luscious and gooey that my husband's first spoonful stretched from the bowl to his mouth and then back to his chin. I wanted to photograph that money shot but he's camera shy. He declared the soup the best he's ever had. My Brussels sprouts were the perfect bite for me--salty, tangy, cheesy, crunchy, earthy, hearty. Made a reservation well in advance for Easter Brunch 6 people at 11:30. 2 of us got there 5 min early and they said they had a table ready, then the hostess ran down the stairs, we just stood at the top and she waved us down into the basement. It was folding tables with linens and banquet chairs. I asked if they had any tables upstairs and she said "if they threw you down here it means we don't have room upstairs." I'm thinking to myself, yes it does feel like we were thrown into the basement at the kiddy tables. Then I went upstairs and spoke with a manager in a pink blazer once I saw many open tables for 6, she said she will see what she can do. In that time the rest of my family came and they were all like, why are we in the basement lol. The manager then came back down and said nothing she can do b/c they have reservations at 12:00, ok well we were here at 11:30 with a reservation and you are just holding the open tables upstairs for the 12:00 reservations? He offered up the specials and we jumped! The shrimp tacos for my wife and the Grouper sandwich for me. We were happy with both choices. Started with a drink called 'The Conversation' which was nice. My friend and I then shared the deviled eggs, also good with a great bacon flavor, before our meals. I got the scallop and shrimp risotto special. It was overall good, but the breading on the shrimp felt over done (I took it off). Pricing was on the higher side, my special was $45 (I didn't know that when I ordered) which feels high in my opinion for what was received. The patio area is very nice and had two levels, on a nice summer evening was devine. They have live music on Tues nights, so lucky us. While it is nice that they allow dogs on the patio there were 3 very large size dogs in our surrounding table space that was crowded and a bit much. When your dogs are tripping up servers and guests, it's a problem. read more
