There's a selection of omelets, pancakes and fresh toast and your typical full breakfast eats. Nothing exotic, but who needs exotic when you want to be in and out to enjoy the rest of your day. The atmosphere is simple and friendly and a throw back to the less fancy days of the Jersey Shore. An added treat is the incredible house coffee, honestly some of the best we have had. But please don't tell Ray that most breakfast places in Monmouth County charge twice as much for half as good. The staff were attentive and picked up nicely for each other, like a great relay team. First time there. Sat down to a sticky table asked waitress to clean which she did. Ordered pancakes. When they came they had a long black hair in it. My girlfriend's and I went one Saturday morning for taylor ham sandwiches, yes, I said taylor ham, NOT pork roll. I had a taylor ham, egg and chess sandwich on a roll. I've been to this restaurant several times over the years. The food is mediocre. Not once has the owner, who is often there, say hello. He just looks up and turns away. I purchased a groupon recently and went there for lunch. I ordered a lobster roll and a salad. It was absolutely disgusting and inedible. There were pieces of the lobster shell in the sandwich. I called over the waitress and told her and she just literally walked away in the middle of the conversation. This was an extremely rude and childish reaction when I was trying to resolve the issue. The owner again, was there and did not come over to the table. So I go up to the register to discuss with the person at the cash register. They did not refund me. As I was leaving, a man that had been sitting with the owner (obviously a friend or family member)walked out behind me and verbally insulted me. He knew nothing about the situation but said that " I got my $10", and that I should have tipped the waitress that walked away from me. (really????) He also told me to "Go back up North". I'm a full time home owner in Brielle. So now we know how Ray's café feels about Summer visitors from up North. Again, just to clarify, I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR MY MEAL THROUGH GROUPON!!! I had a unique experience dining here over the weekend. Ray was kind enough to close the restaurant for a private party for our family member's birthday party. When we arrived, we were kindly greeted by the staff and made ourselves at home. This place has a comfortable relaxed atmosphere just like someone's living room. The passed h'ourderves included huge cocktail shrimp with spicy cocktail sauce, fresh vegetables with amazing dip, fillet cooked to perfection on toast, and succulent scallops wrapped in bacon. I stuffed myself before dinner was ever served! The serves walked around refilling drinks and bringing trays of deliciousness to everyone. The cleared tables, danced around a busy toddler and kept everything running smoothly. Dinner was an experience in itself. A perfectly dressed salad with cranberries, fresh crisp veggies, and gorgeous colors started the meal. It was followed by a buffet of delicious pasta, grilled vegetables, chicken in a white sauce with crab and peppers, cheese stuffed pasta in a rose sauce, roasted potatoes, prime rib and fillet. Everything was incredible. I wish I could have snuck some of those stuffed pasta shells in my purse for later! I went back for a second plate it was so good. Ray was making the rounds himself, socializing and was classy, friendly, and everything you could possibly ask for from a restaurant owner and more. One reviewer messed up. There is one in and Spring Lake and the original is in Sea Girt. I used to go here back in the day when it was Sea Girt luncheonette. Changed names a bunch of times before Ray's Cafe. It is a great breakfast spot, but not a lot of seating. Every time I come back into town I go here. The wait staff is great. Excellent food as well. This is very casual. The only bad part is they don't accept credit cards. Very odd, for a business this day and age. I went once to the place in Spring Lake. As one reviewer already commented, it was awful. It was like night and day compared to the one in Sea Girt. read more

For starters this is on 3rd Avenue In Spring lake not in Sea Girt. My husband and I went here one afternoon for lunch. When we walked up there were 2 tables outside , Both empty but one still had dirty dishes on it. My husband said let's eat inside because it looks like they must forget about outside. When we walked in we sat ourselves, the wait staff just looked at us like we were supposed to know that. There was 2 other tables one having lunch and one having breakfast. The table having breakfast just finished and left and the one having lunch was just served. They lunch people left about 5 minutes after they were served with mostly uneaten food on their dishes. Not a good sign at all. We were there for about 45 minutes and that entire time no one ever cleared the dirty tables in the restaurant 4 of them inside plus the one outside. The owners were sitting in the restaurant playing with new computers they must of just purchased and were trying to set up. The staff must of been on break because they were walking around eating then sitting at a table. Looking at themselves in the mirror next to the bar. Okay so our waitress came over her name was Kate. Adorable and as pleasant and friendly as can be. My husband had a corned beef sand which I had a chicken ceaser wrap. It was good, nothing special but it was just sandwiches. Our waitress was very attentive to us. We were the only ones left in the restaurant besides the staff and owners sitting around . There were 2 big screen TVs in here , why I don't know it is a restaurant not a sports bar. They don't even serve alcohol. I found it so annoying that the TV was on when we are trying to have nice conversation in a restaurant. My advise to the owners. Clean up your restaurant, Dust those dirty shelves along the wall, make sure your tables are clean, take your personal business in the back. Don't let your employees walk around while they are eating with food in their mouth (our waitress was not doing this). She was the only thing A + about this restaurant . Have a hostess greet people at the door and seat them, and get rid of those TVs. Give your place a little bit of class and maybe you can fill your restaurant a little bit more with people,because the food is fine, not great but fine. We would really like a decent restaurant in Spring Lake on 3rd Avenue. We want this place to survive but they need to clean up their act. read more
