    Grilled mackerel
    Cin C.

I have been meaning to check out this restaurant for a while, so a rainy autumn day seemed like a good time. Really nice cosy interiors and appreciated the hot plates that kept our skewers warm throughout the meal. Great selection of skewers on the menu, including interesting items like chicken heart and gizzards. I'm particularly liked the whole grilled mackerel, as they were super crispy and could be eaten head to tail. We rounded up the meal with a squid fried rice and some cheese corn. A fun place to chat with friends.

A cozy spot -- not too big, and tables are packed a bit tightly, so it can feel a little uncomfortable. We arrived around 6:30pm and only waited about 15 minutes. The food was excellent: skewers were generous in portion and seasoned just right. Unlike other places that overload with spices and mask the natural flavors, Chat Bar strikes a perfect balance, letting the original taste shine through. Definitely worth a visit.

A place to chillax, a place to chat. The ambiance was pretty nice with wooden furniture. As the evening grew late into the night, the music got louder, and the lights got dimmer. So my friends and I talked louder. The food was tasty. Ordered: 1. Pork belly skewers. It was tender enough but not melt in your mouth tender. But tasty. 2. Lamb skewers. My favorite. 3. Cooked oysters with the spices. Man, those oysters were big. They were totally juicy. 4. Sesame tripe. Wow. Love the sesame flavour on the stripes. 5. Marinaded cucumber. They were great when your tongue got heated from the spices lol. 6. Cabbages. Very tasty chinese style salad. The service was very fast. The server switched to English when he found out that we couldn't speak Chinese. He he spoke, I felt like I was listening to the commentary on a horse race track. It was really funny. But what I appreciated was him asking us for our feedback. Great way to improve the business. I would absolutely go back, especially when it's one of the rare restaurants that opens until 2 am.

Busy location, great variety of food and so delicious! This Chat Bar is in the heart of Mainstreet Unionville in markham so you can expect it to be super busy. We arrived as a group of four at around 5PM for dinner and were seated quickly. The food variety is amazing and flavours are so good! Things do add up quickly if you want a large variety but I think it's pretty worth it. This restaurant is definitely great for sharing with friends rather than dining yourself. The food we got: Edamame 4/5 - Good. It's a nice change from the large amounts of meat we ordered. Beef Skewer 5/5 - One of my favourites. Juicy, delicious and well seasoned. Lamb Skewer 5/5 - If you like lamb, you must get this. Not too gamey and loaded with flavour. Pork Belly 5/5 - Nice and fatty and great for sharing just a piece or two. Cucumber 5/5 - A must get, since this is almost like a palette cleanser. Lotus Root 5/5 - Nice crunch and so delicious. Cabbage 5/5 - Gotta get those greens in. A little bit oily but so good. Red Sausage 5/5 - This is a must. Always juicy, slightly sweet and seasoned so well. Oysters and Clams 5/5 - Nice change from the large amount of meats you're eating. Great seafood flavour and the oysters were super meaty. Overall I love having skewers with friends since you get to have a large variety and taste everything. This location is definitely busy since it's in such a prime popular location.

Friendly staff. Fast service. They only accept Canadian debit cards or Canadian cash. If you want to pay with USD, it will be a one to one conversion rate. You check off what you want to order on a piece of paper. My favorite skewer was the beef. The chives were delicious and flavorful. I loved the added salt seasoning on top. We ordered a lot of different skewers the try. My boyfriend enjoyed the charcoal lamb ribs. The chicken skin skewers were good and crunchy. We chose the skewers to be spicy, there wasn't much of a spice to it. Enoki mushroom, eggplant with garlic sauce, beef and cucumber in chili oil with peanut were all extremely good and super flavorful. The eggplant had a nice charred skin with grill flavor. The chicken wills I could have done without, not the most flavorful inside.

There are probably better skewer places than Chat Bar, but I don't care, I love this place! The service is always friendly and quick. The food is tasty and fun. And the restaurant is in a cute little house on Main Street Unionville (a nice highlight given the high points in the other categories). Definitely part of the fun of Chat Bar is going with a bunch of your friends, grabbing some drinks, and eating delicious snack-sized dishes. Ironically, I've only done this once. Most of the time I'm visiting with my partner and we just go ham over the 5 or 6 dishes we always order. I know the menu is large and diverse, but why fix something that isn't broken? Our perfect order: Chicken Cartilage Skewers (delicious crispy, chewy cartilage) and Lamb Skewers (classic), Eggplant with Garlic Sauce (split eggplant covered in a mountain of garlic, so good), Cheese Corn (self-explanatory), Braised Pork on Rice (pro tip: mix the cheese corn with it), and Cucumber with Garlic (something green to counteract all the meat you're eating).

Decided to stop by Chat Bar for some early appetizers before heading to dinner. As soon as we walked through the door until we walked out, Jade took care of us! Not only was the service great but so was the food! What we got: Grilled Okra Baked Clams with Garlic Grilled Squid Tentacles Grilled Pork Belly Grilled Beef Everything was cooked and seasoned really well! We enjoyed every bite and can understand why the place can have a long line and we can imagine why people come here late at night enjoying drinks and food!

We got there as all the tables had already filled up (there are very few tables). We were placed on the waitlist and it took about 15-20 mins for a table to leave. They don't take reservations so it is first come first serve. The menu is pretty extensive with all sorts of skewers. We stuck with the pretty classic ones like beef, beef short ribs, squid etc. we also shared a beer (which everyone drinks out of the bottle). The spices and flavour is pretty much the same across with cumin and chili. We enjoy the spices and it went super well with beer. Our absolute favourite is the rice cakes! They were chewy and super well done. The service was good and they checked on us often. Note they only take cash or debit! We were out promptly so that they could serve more customers. It was a good time and we plan to be back!

The food was well seasoned and came pretty fast. You place the order on the QR code that they provide which is really convenient. The service was attentive and really nice. The decor and vibe is also cozy/cute.

Came by for late night eats and tried a bunch of skewers. They no longer serve the skewers with the candle lit plate but rather a couple of communal plates. We really liked the beef rib, salted shrimp, lamb and okra skewers. You can also ask for cumin on the side if you want more flavour. I think it could use more char flavour but the stuff we got was cooked pretty well. Service was polite.

My hubby and I had an impromptu date night on a Monday night and it was quiet because we got there around 415pm. There was one other table with two people. The restaurant is small, cozy and clean. Our server, Susan was amazing. She was friendly and knowledgeable. This was our first visit and she was very helpful explaining the menu to us. We ended up ordering the lamb and beef skewers (4 each), charcoal grilled oysters (each order comes in 6), oxtail with tomato soup (this was our least favourite dish) and the grilled eggplant. Everything tasted amazing. It was flavourful and they had a plate that had two tea candles underneath to keep the skewers warm although the meat was warm when it was served initially. We can't wait to go back and try some more dishes this time with our kids. I would highly recommend this place.

This place is one of the worst places I've ever eaten in my life, I had the lamb skewers and lamb ribs overpriced to the extreme, the place had spider webs it was not clean, and the guy who took our order forgot our order and we were waiting over 45 mins, I'm not sure why they add so much cumin I understand because lamb has a very strong smell to neutralize the smell but all I taste is cumin? Maybe that's what they put but it destroys the taste, overpriced, not a pleasant place to dine in, slow service, not attentive, garbage food, I'm never coming back here

Quality & price isn't what it used to be... Came here few nights ago with my family & ordered the classic dishes (lamb/chicken skewers, oyster, scallop, etc.). We enjoyed the oyster & scallops as they were cooked well & served with good portions. The skewers I didn't find as fresh, and most of them were cold/room temperature when it was served. We literally had to try and wait for it to heat up on the plate heated by tea candles... No complaints with their service, the girl who looked after our table was very patient & efficient.
