My wife and I took a tour of Australia and New Zealand during the Spring, and I was lucky enough to find a beautiful opal. I knew I was going to have it set as a ring, but I wasn't sure how setting it would play out. Happily, Gary and his team really knocked it out of the ballpark! Let me start off this review by saying I am not a wealthy man. My goal was to get an appraisal on my fiance's engagement ring, which I purchased at another jeweler. The jeweler I purchased the ring from, which shall remain nameless, didn't do appraisals. So, after reading reviews on Yelp for different jewelers in NYC, I couldn't resist seeing what all the hype was about with Chateau. From the moment I walked in, Gary greeted my fiance and I with a warm and friendly smile. I told him I was just here for the appraisal, and after he was handed the engagement ring, he immediately offered to have it cleaned complimentary by a machine that pumps out very high pressured air. This was such a kind gesture, given I never bought a thing from him, so you could imagine how amazing it felt to be treated in such a way. After giving us the appraisal, I indicated to him we would most definitely consider his shop to buy my fiance's wedding ring. Gary imports his own materials and gems (no ordering from catalogs like far too many jewelers do), and because of this he can customize rings better to your needs and keep costs down as well. Plus the materials are all F-G color and VS clarity (I have no idea what that meant when he told me, but after learning, it's a really good quality). When we were ready months later to look at wedding bands, Gary was the first person we spoke to. He showed us a few different styles of bands of different band widths and diamond sizes. He offered us a fair price to get the one my fiance wanted, and he even said he would resize her engagement ring (her fingers had shrunk since I proposed) at no additional charge. AGAIN, I didn't buy the engagement ring from his shop. At this point, given the sale for the ring was complete, I had to ask Gary "What's your catch?" I mean, how could a successful jeweler (his parents started the business many years ago) in a very posh section of Forest Hills, be so nice and offer such fair prices? He explained his methodology on being a businessman and also training motivational speakers on the side. Gary is simply an honest businessman who deserves all the clientele he can get! Do not go to any other jeweler, unless your thing is not to get the absolute best service and highest quality. read more
