What happened!?! This was our third visit in 3 years. Each time we visit Floyd we come here and the food has been great. Tonight was far from great. It was really inedible. We both had the aged NY strip. It came out way under cooked and way over seasoned. The potatoes that came with it were warm at best and under cooked. I can't really say enough about the restaurant at Chateau Morrisette. Every time I have dined there (always during lunch), I have gotten exceptional treatment form the wait staff and every other employee with whom I have had contact. They have gone above and beyond their duties to make sure I have had a good experience. The food is most enjoyable. On my last visit, my friend and I shared an array of appetizers- mostly seafood-centered. (That seems odd up in the mountains, well over an episode of Hawaii 5-0 form the ocean), but the quality was exceptional. (Crab beignets and salmon belly wontons were particular standouts.) The atmosphere here is classy, yet rather casual. From dining room to dining room, the decor varies- but it always comfortable, always makes you feel at home. Another note about the staff: Even when I have eaten here with a group of 15, they handled us gracefully and competently. They even bent their rules on splitting checks for large groups- and for that, we were extremely grateful. I have no hesitation at all to recommend dining at CM. It's something I do every year, when I'm up in the area. read more

I'd probably give the Chateau a 4.5 if I could. I took my son there after his recent graduation (from Virginia Tech, where else?). I had made reservations, and getting a table was instant. They gave us a table near the window, overlooking the valley, as picturesque a seating as you will find. The exterior of the restaurant resembles an old winery or castle, which is very impressive. There's peaceful areas outdoors to sit or walk, and for children to play. The Chateau Morrisette is very dog-friendly, but that doesn't mean you can take Bowser into the restaurant. I'm sure he could join you in dining on the deck, though. We both ordered the catfish, which came with a zesty crusting, and was delicious. We also tried the 9 Red Wine, and were very pleased. Naturally I took a bottle home with me. Not sure about the wine prices on the menu, though, as 2 glasses cost the same as a whole bottle. Next time I think I'd just order a full bottle. Can't say enough about the service, as the wait staff was prompt and efficient, and friendly. What more could you want? Noise levels were very low, possibly because we were not in a crowded area. One big caveat in using a GPS to get there. Ignore the GPS (I mean it!) when it tells you to turn right off the main highway onto a gravel road. The gravel road goes on for miles, through farms and woods, and on and on. Instead, go left which will take you to the parkway. read more

Chateau Morrisette never fails to bring an amazing experience to the table, whether you are enjoying their wines at the winery, or their delicious food and service in their restaurant. The views are superb and the atmosphere fantastic. The restaurant can accommodate large groups (last night we had a party of 20 people celebrating my wife receiving her PhD but they can do many more than that with enough advance warning) or a small romantic outing. The winery can do even more for the largest of groups, having a large ball-room-like upstairs area that can be rented out for special occasions. Around our table last night many dishes were ordered, from the Lollipop Lamb Chops, to a salmon Caesar salad, and everybody was absolutely delighted. Our server, Alec, was fun, extremely knowledgeable, and very helpful. If you are going to the restaurant I highly suggest reservations. They're busy because they are amazing. read more

I absolutely love this place! It's set right off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. I'm especially fond of the winery as I grew up not too far from there and my family still owns some land in the area. The winery itself is very nice and modern and all of the wine is so great! If you ever get a chance try the Blackberry wine...I've gotten tons of compliments on it whenever I've showed up with a bottle. All of their wines are in the $8-$20 or so range. You can purchase them at Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, etc. The restaurant's food is superb in my opinion and offers a nice view of the mountains. The inside of the restaurant is a tad bit dated though. Another perk to eating in the restaurant is that the bottles of wine are priced the same as they are at the winery! It's also not a bad idea to get reservations. They also have a summer concert series on the lawn with various bands that's always a lot of fun! I can't wait to make another trip up there, it's a definitely a special place! read more

I have now been to Chateau Morrisette 3 times over the past 2 years. I don't understand all of the negative reviews! Yes, some of the wine at CM is widely distributed and can be found at places like Food Lion and Wal-Mart, but that in no way means it's not good wine. Personally, the Chambourcin is one of my favorite wines, and I regularly have it shipped to my home. I last went to Chateau Morrisette this past Saturday. We had dinner at the restaurant, and it was AMAZING, as always. I had the filet, and the pimento bleu cheese on top was ridiculously good. My girlfriend had the salmon, which was also fantastic. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the wait staff is always extremely friendly and attentive. All in all, the restaurant at Chateau Morrisette is one of my all-time favorite spots for dinner. The wine is also very reasonably priced. My girlfriend is just starting to get into wine, and so CM's variety of sweet wines is a welcome change from most other wineries I've been to that usually just have 1 or 2 sweeter wines. Rode up on motorcycles with a group of 6 people. We had a reservation for 1:00 and arrived a bit early. We were told we couldn't be seated early... ok, no problem. We took an opportunity to walk around and stretch our legs and check out the views. Finally got sat promptly at 1:00 but were not greeted at the table for 20 minutes... ordered food but weren't served for another hour. Food was decent, maybe even good but we were so frustrated by then it was hard to tell. We had to go find the server and ask for a check... by the time we got out of there it was over 2 hours after being seated. The restaurant was NOT busy. It looked like a staff shortage. I don't blame the server, he looked like he was busy and running around working hard. Through the whole process, no management came by to explain the delay or apologize. Very disappointing. Overall, this place was a selected destination on our road trip and we rode hours just to get here. Will not happen again. read more

We've hit the winery for cases for years and were thrilled when they could finally ship to FL! On a recent trip to the area for a family event we took full advantage and also celebrated Mother's Day late & Father's Day early on the patio of the lovely restaurant. Everything from the enchanting 'water girl' who heartily suggested shrimp & grits (ordered and devoured happily by Dad) to the cheerful, efficient, and knowledgeable server (Cory) who engaged and retreated with skill, to the food - salad to desert, all only topped by the view and early summer breezes. Two salads, one appetizer, four entrees, four desserts, and one bottle of wine with tip was just under $200 which, for us and for the event, was money well spent. (We took decent amounts of our entrees home and they were still tasty when reheated for supper). There is often live music in the summer & fall & that day offered Bluegrass on the winery patio. Usually there are tables set up on the patio for enjoying the scenery and, of course, wine. At the winery we tasted a couple new wines (and an old favorite!) before grabbing a couple of cases to bring home. This spot is a must. Check their site for music & specials. Also, the OpenTable app worked just fine for us. They even had the 'special request' for a window seat ready to go but, fortunately, there was a table outside we were taken to quickly when we asked. read more

I like this place. Its not of the highest quality, but it is a great introduction to VA wine if you haven't had it before, and it is a great place if you just like VA wine! They aren't the deepest or boldest, but they are inexpensive and of good quality. I liked the Merlot (of all things) and I found their reds to have more punch than I had expected. Also, their Viognier does all the right things that you want from VA's premier white grape. It is a huge place, with everything you could possibly want to buy affixed with a wine glass, a dog, or both in most cases. I didn't find it off putting. The staff was some of the best I've experienced in VA and I enjoyed myself. I also tried the restaurant. The prime rib was very good and the crab cakes were almost all crab... very delicious. They help you pair the meals with their wines... the Cab Franc with the prime rib was fantastic. Its almost fancy dining... not exactly what you'd expect in NOVA (no dress code, no pretentions), and its worth your stomach if you're in the area. The reason for only three stars (because I realize this sounds like a higher rated review)? Well, I just wanted something slightly more... there's no BIG winner of wine. I like a signature wine or a powerful deep tannic red... there isn't one. Its all very safe, well done, but no real passion. I think that's what doesn't quite push it over the edge. My boyfriend and I had a really fun time visiting the restaurant and vineyard, even on a terribly rainy day. We stopped in for lunch during a day trip to the vineyard and nearby Foggy Ridger Cider. We were really impressed with the food. I had the BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders with fries. The blackberry BBQ sauce on the sliders was excellent---and, being from North Carolina, I'm a bit of a BBQ snob! (If such a thing is even possible.) The menu suggested pairing the siders with a red wine, but I went off-book and paired it with the blackberry wine. Turned out to be a good choice; I loved it so much that I bought two bottles to go. My boyfriend, who is Celiac, ordered a bacon burger without the bun. He said it is the best bacon he has ever had. He had the apple wine and really liked it. (As you can tell by the fruity wine choices, we aren't huge wine connoisseurs!) For those who need to eat gluten free, gluten free items are marked on the menu. The waiters are also very helpful. French fries and fried foods are not Celiac-friendly because there is no separate frier, but our waiter happily switched my boyfriend's fries for a different side of his choice. And, as an added bonus, there are even gluten free dessert options! We also found the price to be shockingly reasonable for such a nice, classy place. Several of the wines are only $5 a glass. Buy wine to go at the vineyard store rather than at the restaurant waiting area bar. The bottles at the bar are marked up $1, even to go, which I thought was weird. The staff in both the tasting room and the restaurant do not seem very friendly overall. They are pretty busy though, so maybe that is why? You will find much better wines and friendlier people at the wineries and vineyards in North Carolina, just a but further south down the Parkway (in The Yadkin Valley area). read more

We drove 40 minutes out of our way to visit this place before any other winery in VA. Decided to eat before visiting the winery. Sadly we walked out after not being waited on after the hostess seated us before two tables seated after us. Walking out was my wife's choice which has never happened at any other vineyard or restaurant before. Have visited here a couple times prior to this visit. Came away with the same opinion this trip. Ban the Dogs. We've been Dog owners for 40 yrs, however this is out of control at C. Morrisette. Who wants to be getting their read-end sniffed during a wine tasting, or removing dog hair from their tasting crackers? Not sure about Va. however many states don't allow animals in grocery or food establishments. If not for having to deal with that issue the setting and facilities are good. I'm of the same opinion as friends and co-workers about their Wine... that being, we don't like it. Not bad, its just below average for this region. I really enjoyed visiting the winery. Beautiful location. Friendly people. The menu looked delicious but our restaurant experience was horrible. First, we had to wait. Not because the dining room was full but so that the maitre'd could figure out his computer. When we were seated we were given menus, water, bread and then left alone for 20 minutes. Not a good idea with a three year old at lunch time. Finally, when we walked our, the man who appeared to be the manager did not seem the least bit concerned that paying customers were walking out the door. To be honest, he seemed to be relieved that a family with a child was leaving his pristine location. I'm sure the food is amazing, given other reviews. Anyone can have a bad day. But at least acknowledge it when you let a customer down so much that they walk out without even the benefit of ordering. (I was going to order the shrimp and grits, btw). read more

We were recommended by friends to come to Château Morrissette. After touring the wine tasting room we came to the restaurant for something to eat. Let's start by saying that the whole experience is worth it. The wine tasting room, the grounds, the views, and the restaurant are beautiful. The restaurant is a nice mix of elegance, cozy and vintage. When we called on the phone to make reservations, Richard, the gentleman who answered the phone, was very nice, patient and helpful. Then Justin, the host, was also very nice. Our server was sweet and efficient. Unfortunately, the food was not what we expected from such a beautiful place, and the high menu prices. The creamy tomato soup was too sweet, and was not garnished as you would expect, at least some chopped parsley to add color, or a small dollop of cream fraiche. The bone marrow was just one bone, when usually in other restaurants for the same price you get at least two bones. It was nice that it had some green on top for decoration and flavor, however in this case, it was too much green. The spinach vol au vent did not have enough spinach in the filling, it was too sweet due to the sweet nuts on top, and the puff pastry was not flaky and crunchy enough. After the mediocre appetizers, we did not want to order dinner. However, we will come back to this beautiful restaurant, but not to eat. Just to sit on their great outdoor terrace, or in the cozy lobby on the sofas in front of the wood burning fireplace. Not only the beauty of this place will make us want to come back, but also because every person that helped us was very nice, and this is one of the most important factors. read more

Beautiful location, but service was very scarce. I waited to be seated for a while with no staff in sight, only for the host to go past me to the people who came in well after me. If he hadn't realized at first, it was obvious when he returned that he'd skipped me- plus I complained to another staff who didn't apologize or do anything. I only complain on yelp because the staff had no intention of helping. Once seated no one came by with a menu for a long time, until I flagged down a waitress who felt sorry for me- my table was not supposed to be her responsibility. Then all of the staff disappeared for a long time while I (and several other tables around me) wanted the check. I wanted to disappear too but was trapped. The ambiance and the experience of eating inside this restaurant was great. It reminded me of eating in mountain restaurants back when I was in Colorado. Service here is great and my party were quickly seated and served promptly. The negatives, I would say would be the food. It is a restaurant and so the emphasis should be on the food, which I why I have to rate it a 3 stars. We had many of their foods and believe we can give this place a fair assessment in all categories. Their Spinach, Quail and Duck eggs were great, though the price for these altogether with the portion size, made us have to review these more in detail. The Duck eggs were mildly seasoned and served on a sausage that was a bit too greasy and overcooked. The spinach was good but pastry was also slightly undercooked leaving this a little too chewy in the mouth. The quail for the price was lackluster in taste, underseasoned and slightly overcooked. They all were good in some way, but not worth the price point they were given. Entrees are next. My wife had the pork sandwich, which she liked. She notes that the bread and toppings were good, not dry with good seasoning. I had the Lamb meatloaf, which I believed was overpowered by the grease, with mild hints of lamb inside. The greens and the potato mash were spectacular on my plate and were the best thing on it, which is bad considering the lamb meatloaf should take center stage and not be overpowered by the sides. All together this place is great for ambiance and environment with good food that is enjoyable. Where I docked 2 stars is for the price point as I believe you can get equally good food for much cheaper. read more

So, I previously reviewed Chateau Morrisette several years ago and was a bit grouchy. Today I am updating my review because we have had a fantastic experience. I'll start with Sally. She was great from the start. We met with her to plan and organize a rehearsal dinner for my son and daughter-in-law. Sally is a true professional and made great suggestions not only for the venue, but also local suppliers. She worked provided excellent estimates and made adjustments as we got closer to the date. On the day of the event she met with us earlier in the day to set the final touches, then greeted us at the venue that night and ensured that everything was perfect. The room is fantastic and overlooked an incredible sunset. CM had a fire going in the fireplace for wonderful ambiance. The staff was so good. The food was great! Every guest commented on the quality of the food. Bar service could not have been better. Excellent selection of CM wine and good local beers. All in all, we are so happy with the way things turned out. read more

We found the Sunday buffet to be delicious and filling, but we will not be back. Our waitress forged the credit card receipt, giving herself a generous tip on top of the cash we left for her on the table(we try to leave tip in cash so servers can receive the full value of their tip, and we left 20%!!). After contacting management regarding the issue, they spent two weeks "getting back to us" until we called again asking for a resolution. It took nearly a month, and all we got was a blank sheet of paper and a check for $20 in the mail. Not an apology, not an invitation back for them to rectify the situation. Nothing. I would expect a higher level of customer service from Chateau Morrisette and I'm am very disappointed in their response to a fraudulent employee. read more

Oh, the kind that keeps their employees scheduled 30 to 31 hours a week to avoid them qualifying for full-time status so you can just fire them, or not keep their job for them after maternity leave! I get that you are a small business and need to keep costs down. I get that there are rules that can be followed to screw over your employees. I get that you might be skating along the legal razor blade but the values that you treat your employees with will come back to haunt you. If you treat your employees as your MOST VALUABLE ASSET, that will make you MORE successful. What a shame. read more

OUTSTANDING!! We went for the wine tasting and for their new spring menu at the restaurant and were not disappointed with anything! The views are remarkable and the service is terrific. We were very pleased with the $8 tasting and the variety of wines that were sampled. We ended up buying a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon for around $20 and enjoyed it at the bar next door. If it would have been a nice day outside (it was a bit cold/rainy), there are plenty of spots outside to enjoy your wine. As for the restaurant, this to me was the real hit. The food is delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. We sampled everything from the tuna tataki, shrimp and grits, shrimp and scallops, beef tenderloin, and some really delicious desserts (Grasshopper pie which tasted like Girl Scout cookies thin mint) ;) We can't wait to go back! read more

Right about 20 years ago, my family stumbled across your establishment while visiting the area, fell in love with it and have been coming back ever since. Was in my early teens then, and now in my 30s. My wife and I still come up almost every chance we get. Actually proposed at your tree lighting event two years ago. As of this last year (2017), we have noticed some changes. NOT GOOD ONES. So far this year, we have been up there probably three times so far and were planning to come up for the special new years dinner. What we have learned regarding your restaurant as of this year: 1) DO NOT COME TOWARDS THE END OF A MEAL SERVICE. The food will 100% reflect a cook staff that doesn't give two flying f**ks and want little more than you out of the dinning room. 2) Should you ever have a question that is above the front receptions ability to answer, DO NOT GET OFF THE PHONE WITH AN ACTUAL PERSON UNTILL YOU ARE SPEEKING DIRECTLY WITH THE MANAGER. The management's voice mail is not maintained in any way and you WILL NOT be called back. EVER. One week, three messages, and four phone calls to speak with anyone other than the front desk; and the messages that were left have still not been responded to. 3) Don't question the staff on the phone. They will be combative. Have never had a problem in person, but so much for working anything out over the phone. 4) DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME WITH THE CHEFF. Needed to verify the menu of a preset $95 a head event and wether or not any accommodations could be made for a vegetarian. Not a vegan. Not a pescatarian. Not a gluten issue. Not an anything, pick whatever trendy limited diet you want. A vegetarian. And with over a week's notice. In Monroe NC of all places, you can get adjustments made to a fixed menu for a vegetarian with no more notice than enough to make a same evening reservation at the best place in town. Heck, I've personaly watch the chef adjust a recipe on the spot for a gluten free vegan. No questions asked, with a smile, and a "just wait, you're going to like this". SHOWMARS CAN HANDLE AN ON THE FLY MENU ITEM ADJUSTMENT FOR A VEGATARIAN. What makes it worse is I could hear the chef's response in the background of the call. In short, we have loved this place for a very long time. Will I ever go back. Probably not. But hey, no worries, with the direction your establishment currently going, you wont have to worry about it much longer. I sat outside with my boyfriend and enjoyed a three course meal and wine on their beautiful patio overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. We watched the sunset, had six glasses of wine, and a delicious meal. It was very romantic. We love their frosty dog ice wine; we even bought a bottle to take home with us! I love this place!!! My husband went to VA Tech so this quickly became a place that we would visit on our way back to Charlotte, NC. Since we started visiting this place they have increased their wine offerings to 36 different wines? They have something for every palate. We came up for our anniversary this past weekend and made reservations for their brunch. The food was really good but the only thing I could give advice is they needed two people working the omelet station. We stuck around for a tasting afterwards where they do switch out which wines they are tasting. Outdoors they have a tent set up where you can grab a quick bite and usually listen to some live music. The young man whose name I don't recall was friendly, joked with us, and went along with our many requests with no hesitation or delay. The winery was an awesome experience though the restaurant was disappointing with attitude. Myself, and husband have an electronic green smoke cigarette and took a couple of puffs while eating outside. Some one came around and said people were complaining and explained that we must go out front. This was understood and we put them away never to be seen again. A few minutes later here comes another lady with an attitude who was loud and rude stating the same statements. She then came around about an hour later and ask every table outside how everything was with exception of us. I felt very disrespected over a minor issue and feel my money is as good as everyone else's. Mind you the menu consist of hamburgers and 9.00 bottles of wine...hardly fine dining. Worth the trip from Greensboro, NC! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The grounds are stunning, the food was delicious and the wine tasting was free (though it isn't always). This was an Open House weekend and the food, wine and dessert were plentiful, we could have just went straight to the winery and been fully satisfied, but we did thoroughly enjoy our brunch in the restaurant. My husband had the French Toast and it literally melted in the mouth; the portion was also quite large. I had the burger with a side salad. The burger was cooked to perfection and the side salad was very fresh, though I wish the serving size was larger. Offering a wide variety of wines, an intimate fireplace-warmed lounge and a rustic restaurant, Chateau Morrisette is worthy stop off of Virginia's beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. I find Chateau Morrisette to be one of the better Virginia wineries, by far. I've visited the winery twice, both times eating in the restaurant and doing the tasting in the main building. On my first visit, I participated in the tour as well. On a positive side, they offer a wide variety of wines, ranging from the bold cabernets to the very sweet 'ice' wines. Their modest tasting fee gets you sips of nearly all of their wines and you can keep your tasting glass. Their prices are fairly inexpensive with the exception of some reserve and dessert wines, but they tend to be more expensive anyway. The main tasting building offers a grand, multi-story entrance, solid wood framing throughout and the warmth of roaring fireplaces. Also found in this building are countless numbers of wine related gifts. This is one of if not the busiest wineries in Virginia, so expect crowds and a less intimate experience. For a more intimate tasting experience, visit Chateau O'Brien in Markham, VA. The restaurant and lounge area offers sweeping mountain and valley views along the picturesque Blue Ridge Parkway. Like the wines, the food at Chateau Morrisette is just okay. Both visits for lunch left me desiring more tasteful food. If they could improve upon food taste and quality of wait staff, this would be a great place for lunch. As of now, just okay. Although, for the Floyd/Meadows of Dan area, one of the nicer places. For the Virginia wine lover and travelor of the Blue Ridge Parkway, I recommend an afternoon stop at Chateau Morrisette. read more
