The Derby party at Chatham Bars Inn this past weekend was so much fun! I absolutely love the new bar in the Fireplace Room--it's a total game changer in there. The Derby decorations were beautifully done and made the atmosphere feel extra festive, and the contest really highlighted all the great attire that so many guests wore. Ali, who I believe was running the event, was very attentive and accommodating, as was the event server. Overall, a wonderfully organized and well-run event! Thank you, CBI!!! I debated writing this review because I so badly wanted to love CBI, but to be honest with you, I didn't end up loving it as much as I anticipated to. My partner took me here for my birthday and we got breakfast at Stars, which the food was good, but had a sort of rude interaction we were told to wait for a table. I was told I'd receive a text when the table was ready, but J never got a text when the table became available and when we went to check on it, they told me in a snarky tone it had been ready and that they sent me a text. I showed them that I never got it, but they dismissed it. So I looked past that and was excited for the meal. Food was good! After, my partner had booked a coastal manicure for me as a surprise, but when we went to check in for the reservation, turned out the receptionist had accidentally booked it for the wrong weekend...which was fine! mistakes happen! What bothered me was that they never acknowledged that it was their error, never apologized for it happening, and made us feel like we were the ones inconveniencing them. Anyways, they got me an appointment that day, but an hour later than anticipated so I waited in the lounge area for an hour. The manicurist wasn't the friendliest, we made small talk, but it was forced. Before my manicure was dry, the nail tech had to leave, so someone from the front desk did my top coat and I'm sorry but it came out pretty poorly. It chipped in a couple days, and it was certainly not a cheap service!! Overall, I REALLY wanted to like it here, but there's some areas that could be worked on. I definitely do not recommend a manicure here. read more

Beautiful hotel--especially at the start of summer with all of the hydrangeas in full bloom. Our little cottage was clean and cozy with a beautiful ocean view. Food at the restaurants (we tried Stars, the Beach House, and the main porch) was fresh and high quality. The spa was pricy but my massage was wonderful and the sauna was soothing. Chatham Bars INN has always been top tier for my family and I, besides the fact that the prices are through the roof now.

We visited here during the holidays and they do such a beautiful job decorating! It's a lovely lobby and the gingerbread of the property was AMAZING! Kudos to the bakery staff and whomever else worked so hard to make this such a festive display!! The trees are amazing, particularly in the fireplace room which in an of itself is very invited, albeit packed at dinnertime. We had dinner at the Sacred Cod (see separate review) and couldn't have been more pleased. Overall, this is a beautiful venue and even moreso in the summertime. The staff was very cordial and obliged us by taking our picture in front of one of their beautifully decorated trees. It made me feel very happy to be hear, surrounded by such delightful decorations during the holidays. read more

Stayed here for father in laws 80th birthday celebration. The weather was absolutely magical, we went in mid June and this is the time to go to the Cape. Our room was fantastic we had a cottage across the road with great views. Very spacious and it had a Nespresso coffee machine which was great. CBI employs many hundreds of people and I think they have struggled to restaff to needed levels after Covid. Many of the staff are young and a bit inexperienced. What they lack here they make up for with a cheery disposition and their good looks. Have a little patience with them as they learn. Food was really great for the most part. Dining facilities and bars are first rate. You are close enough to walk into town. Great place; will return. read more

I booked a manicure/pedicure as a birthday gift for myself. While it was more expensive than I would ever normally pay, they claim that they offer a luxurious spa experience, and I thought it would be worthwhile. For $200, they offer a very standard mani/pedi experience. They barely pumiced my feet, leaving them rough. They also did not file my toenails. In the end, some of my toenails were barely painted. When it comes to my hands, she cut my cuticles until they were bleeding. I had to put neosporin on them for days. To top it off, the manicurist was 30 minutes late. No one seemed to know what to do about it, so I sat awkwardly in the doorway of their manicure room. I was just about to leave when the manicurist finally arrived. THEN, they charged me an automatic 20% gratuity. Nothing about the experience was professional. read more

I rated this place poorly not because of the food but because of the service. I came here with my family in the restaurant expecting to grab some drinks and scope out the inn before booking for next season. We felt discriminated from the moment we walked in, the lady at the entrance table of the bar was extremely rude and curt. There were plenty of open tables but she needs more training when it comes to telling customers that you need to buy a full meal to sit there. She already had a frown when I asked for a table for some coffee/snacks, and was curt in saying "No, no, no". Especially during these times, some gender & diversity training is needed when educating staff. I come to Cape Cod every year but will not be returning to this establishment. Sadly I didn't feel welcome and was disappointed my family had to witness this behavior on our vacation. read more

Just one more example of how little attention is paid to guest details. While I was checking out, I should add that another set of guests found out that while they had made their reservation, the hotel claimed there was no room available for them! If you want a "five star" place with 2 star service I recommend this place. We have brought company here over the years for a smart cocktail and the view. However, our experience last night with a good friend of ours has marked our last visit. We went to the terrace, where there were plentiful available chairs, but there were dirty glasses on every table. After taking the pictures of the glasses to the right and left of us that I have posted here, we had to bus the tables so that we had a clean space to drink our overpriced cocktails. read more

Mixed review here. Lived in Chatham for many years and CBI has always been at the top. Went in for there for Sunday brunch last week. Food and service was the best. The place was SO dirty we almost left before we got our food. The floors on the way in and carpet in the dining room had crap every where. I was appalled. We started to look around the dining room and noticed how old the chairs/furniture were and paint chipping from walls and ceiling. We never thought CBI was dirty but now feel its filthy! Food was fantastic and probably will go back for one more try. To be honest.....CBI management should be ashamed. I know its off season but you have a reputation to up hold! read more

We met friends last night at Chatham Bars Inn to have dinner at the Sacred Cod. We were told that no reservations were accepted and arrived at 5:15 and were prepared to wait. We were told the wait was one hour. We grabbed some drinks and sat in the lobby. We checked in with the hostess about 45 min into our wait and was told by the hostess that they gave our table to a party who walked in and insisted on being seated immediately. During this entire time there was an empty table for four. After checking in again at one hour and 15 min we were told that we needed to wait a bit longer. We asked about the empty table and was told that it was reserved for an important person. Keep in mind they do NOT take reservations. They were understaffed for the busy holiday weekend. We arrived Sunday, 10/6 and we were in awe! The outside of the hotel is stunning with its gas lanterns, flowers and pumpkins. The gentleman that checked us in was very professional, helpful in offering us information about the hotel. I wish I could remember his name, sorry. We got to the room, we were immediately impressed with the views from our balcony! Omg! Gorgeous! We wanted to shower before dinner.. NG. The shower needs regrouting.. it was gross to say to the least. I also think for a 5 star hotel the bathroom could've been a little more luxurious.. some tiles were broken also. The bathroom in the lobby is much nicer than what the rooms have. We went to dinner, Pates, nothing to write home about. Got back to our room, we wanted to wake up early to go exploring. The bed, pillows were horrible. I woke up the next morning with my back killing me. Granted I'm spoiled at home with a Saatva mattress but we expected much better than this. I opened the drapes and the light hit the sofa.. IT WAS FILTHY! Never mind how uncomfortable the furniture is, it was stained! My husband told the front desk on our way out, it was rectified by the time we got back to our room. The food was very good at the hotel, we had breakfast and lunch on the Verandah. As we walked to the elevator we couldn't help but notice the amount of dust on the floors, on the sides of the runners in the hallways. Not a good look for a 5 star hotel in my eyes. Supposedly CBI is rated one of the top hotels in the country, if not the world. Give me a break! Some of the staff need personality training.. SNOTTY! They answer the phone like they're doing you a favor by even answering. Not a good morning, hello, how are you, nothing. The gentlemen at the concierge desk are lovely, very accommodating. We made small talk with several of them during our trips to town. We took a boat ride over to a private beach, Payson, the tender operator was fun. The morning of our check out we basically ran out of there. CBI has many amenities at your fingertips, lovely grounds to walk around and enjoy, or just to sit and take in the views. Will we go back? NO! PS.. there was a wedding Thursday night. I think the hotel should make you aware (if the wedding is booked prior) that a wedding will be occurring while you're there. Overall: the swordfish, chowder, fish and I imagine any seafood is good. Pricey but pretty big portions. They had ballet which was nice, beautiful deck and indoor outdoor porch. We were sat on a table on the sand which was ok but if you have heels or nice shoes on I would be warned. The clam chowder was in a large but shallow bowl which made it a good started. The swordfish was good, a very fishy taste. I liked the sauce and there were still chunks of pineapple in the side sauce which gave it extra texture. The tortillas were a serve like something you would get at the store with no flavor and a bit soggy. The fish and chips were large and my mom liked them. She said the coleslaw wasn't especially good. It was an expensive lunch but was a great location and would be a nice occasional outing. I would come again on a holiday or on a special occasion. read more

The Bayview bar is a really cute hidden spot to have drinks and look out at the water. The Veranda is a good spot for a mid-day snack, and the lobster nachos don't disappoint. We planned to be in Florida for a long weekend, but a lady named Irma gave me cause to cancel our plans. So instead we thought we might try Cape Cod. I've been to Cape Cod before but only on business which means I'm in and out pretty quick. Turns out this hotel/resort is billed as a "world class resort". We got in on Friday night and had reservations in place so the check in was smooth. Here's a little sticker shock. Rooms range from $485 per night to $1,200 per night. We were on the lower end. Our room was kind of on the small side with a Queen bed, but well appointed. We had an outside deck, but no view at all. Our view was the parking lot. Ocean views start at $795. Ok so there are a number of restaurants. All excellent and worthy of being called world class. They have valet parking and every time I called for my car it was waiting when we got there. The beach.... at low tide it was less then desirable. Sand bars are visible and they are inundated with seals. A little stinky from the seals. You can go on a seal tour if you like. We did not. They also have a whale watching tour, but the concierge suggested we go to Provincetown for the whale watching. Good suggestion and we took it. They have what they call " Lobstering ". For $50 they take you out in a boat to a bunch of lobster traps that they have set. You pull up a trap and if you have a lobster that's a keeper you can have one of the restaurants cook it for a $10 charge. If you don't catch one, well you have had experience. The pool... we went to the pool on Saturday. This was without a doubt world class. An attendant checks you in and when you tell them where you want to sit they bring towels, a lounge cover,and cucumber water. We had lunch, reasonable prices, at the pool which comes on real plates, not paper or plastic. We are at one of the restaurants on Monday morning which was absolutely fabulous. I'll review that later. Overall we had a wonderful time. I will definitely go back, only next time I'll spring for a waterfront room. I definitely recommend this hotel, but only if you get a waterfront room. read more

Literally just checked in. We chose a Cottage Room. Big mistake. No parking & no one offered to help us with our bags. We had to bring our luggage up a flight of stairs-no elevators in the cottages. CBI should mention the stairs for the cottages somewhere on the website, confirmation, reservations. Now, our AC is not working & they have only offered "to make it right." So, housekeeping dropped off a fan. It's the middle of July, the CBI engineer acknowledged our AC isn't working & all we are given is a fan. Update: we upgraded our room with a discount. read more

I had a reservation for dinner for four and a baby. They called to confirm the day before. I confirmed. We arrived five minutes early. The mater'd, Taylor, told me that that my reservation was for 2 people. I confirmed the number and he told me to go outside and he would "come and collect us" someone came to us and took us into the restaurant. never an apology or a comment . He waltzed around the restaurant during our dinner never stopping by our table to check on us or ask about our meal. I spent 750.00 on dinner and this guy, who made us uncomfortable from the moment we arrived never made an attempt to make us feel welcome. This was a terrible experience and I would never recommend this dining room to any visitors. The CBI needs to get a better representative attending to its diners. read more

I wish I reviewed these comments before I made a reservation at their restaurant, Sacred Cod. I worked in food and beverage at Four Seasons for five years so I have some marginal frame of reference. My husband and I invited our sister and husband for lunch. While the staff was helpful and pleasant, our food was much less appealing. One of our chowders was missing the menu lauded crouton which was obvious as three of our table members had one. Our coffee was mediocre and was served with 2% milk, not cream. My brother-in-law had a half teaspoon of coffee grounds in the bottom of his cup. My husband ordered the hamburger and was served fish and chips instead, which was overcooked. He choose to eat it as it took 40 minutes to get the original order out. I ordered the hamburger which was heavily spiced with cayenne, without any menu warning. Even the butter for the table rolls was spiced with cayenne. There was no salt and pepper on any table. All of this for a total table cost of $250 for four people. This was WITHOUT any alcohol. This was a severe disappointment on almost every level. read more

You're paying for the location. And it's a beautiful one. But I must be honest and admit we've stayed in nicer places for less money. We arrived Thursday Eve and given directions to where our cottage was. It was one that was across the street away from the main Inn. As soon as we opened the door We were blasted with a wave of heat. Someone had left the fireplace on high and the temperature in the room was literally 97° We immediately called the front desk. My husband had the impression that they thought he was kidding about the actual temperature. They told us they'd send someone from engineering. 45 minutes later we were still waiting for someone to come and assess the situation. We called again and in another 20 minutes the engineer knocked on our door. He couldn't believe how hot it was and told us he didn't think the room would cool down by that night, even with the windows open and the air conditioning crank down as low as it could go. It was probably our mistake not to call the front desk and ask to be moved right away. But thinking back they probably should have offered right away. We opened the windows. Went out to dinner and did receive a call from someone a few hours later while we were out apologizing for the situation and asking us if we wanted to change rooms. We were given the option to wait until we got back, which we did. When we returned it was still really warm in there. So we called the front desk and asked if we could change our rooms. It took a long time for the young man to come get us and bring us to the new room, but in the end we were moved to a nicer cottage. The inn is nice, but we'd probably never go back. The main part of the inn is kind of all show and there's nothing warm about it. Pretentious guests abound. There's a small bar in one of the restaurants that isn't comfortable and they only serve coffee from 7-9 am. There's no breakfast included or cookies or anything nice to snack on. The cottage we stayed in was nice, but old. Weird dresser and no place to put anything. The rooms are not the cleanest. Our bed was missing a spindle in the headboard and there was a tile in the bathroom that kept coming up. The blinds were broken in some spots. It looked shabby. And the area around the pool was really worn. All the cushions on the chairs were stained and mildewed. We didn't have soap in our bathroom and it took us two calls to get it. There's no soap dishes in the bathrooms either which is odd. Overall, it's just not what we expected. The little details and superior guest service just weren't there. read more

***This is for STARS only. The restaurant's food and service was extremely underwhelming is the best way to sum everything up. Service - for a restaurant of this caliber we expected it to be a lot better. However, we had to request even the simplest things such as refilling the water multiple times. (The restaurant was not busy and the waiter even came by and checked on us and never refilled our empty glasses a couple times.) My martini never came out until my friend inquired about it 20 minutes later as well. Silverware was not changed between courses. I ended up using my clam appetizer fork for my monkfish entree as nothing was removed. Furthermore, no one explained our courses when brought out. Usually can be self explanatory, but there were a few items we were not clear on including the cheeses for dessert until we had inquired. In fact, when we asked for an explanation about the menu items, the waiter basically read the description that was already printed. Food - presentation was good. However, it seemed many items were on the dish simply for presentation and added zero value. The main courses were only ok - nothing great and everything was oversalted. (Hence the water refills.) The appetizers were the one redeeming factor of the entire menu. Specifically, the oysters, clams and lobster salad. read more

To be clear, this is a review of STARS only as we did not stay at the inn. My wife and I dined at Stars on 7/19 and had a wonderful experience. Our server, Sarah, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the sourcing of ingredients and was eager to highlight the local nature of nearly all ingredients on the menu. We enjoyed speaking with her throughout our five-course meal as it speaks very highly of a restaurant when the staff take such obvious pride in their food. The food itself was exceptional. My wife had beef tartare (the best she's ever had), seared scallops, roasted quail, sole veronique, and Black Forest chocolate cake, while I had the littleneck clams, foie gras, pan-roasted monkfish, and berry trifle. The only complaint I can muster is that the monkfish on its own was a little under-seasoned, but with the crab bisque sauce, it was wonderful. The final piece of the puzzle was the maitre d' (or manager?), Paul. He visited our table several times to ensure we were having a nice evening, then as we were trying to decide on our next glass of wine he personally brought several bottles to our table for us to sample. We had a lovely chat about each wine, then he ended the evening by comping us a couple of small glasses of a terrific late-harvest Sauvignon Blanc that paired well with our desserts. To sum up, is Stars pricy? Of course. But if you are one who doesn't mind paying for exceptional food and service once in a while, it's well worth it. We have dined at many Michelin-starred restaurants and I'd rate our experience at Stars up with the best. read more

We had reservations on a recent Wednesday night for the Beach House Bar for dinner. When we arrived the hostess could not find the reservation and was unapologetic. When I showed her the text message I had showing the reservation she then asked me if I had confirmed, which I told her yes and scrolled down to show her the confirmation. She continued to have an attitude and gave no apology for the confusion. She told us she could sit us at high top near the bar and I said I would prefer a different table given that I had made the reservation over a month ago and it wasn't crazy busy. She was so put out and rude it really put a damper on the evening. I have been going to the CBI every summer for the past several years and I expect much better customer service. Will probably think twice before going back. read more

I took my bf here for his birthday, he has always wanted to go to a claimbake. We were under the assumption it would have been on the beach, but it was buffet style. There was valet parking, which during our dinner they brought the keys, saying they leave when it's raining, this seemed a bit odd. We were greeted by a wonderful hostess and taken to our table. Our server Katy greeted us right away. She was attentive to our needs, and proud it was her second summer working their. Mackenzie was great, making sure our waters and table were consistently clean. We had the lobster dinner, which we enjoyed. I had ordered a cake for his birthday and until I asked about it, no one seemed to have been aware. Katy hurried to find out where it was. Thankfully she found it. One downfall was when the sun went down the no see-ums came out biting us. So over all we enjoyed the service and scenery. read more

The menu is tiny, without gluten free items marked, so there's not many choices; however, I was assured by the waitress that any menu item could be made gluten free. Wrong!!! When I started to order, she told me every time I picked an item that it wasn't gluten free and couldn't be made gluten free. I finally chose a burger, but the bun it was on looked, tasted, and fell apart like an Udi's bun. I know for a fact that there are better options available to restaurants on the Cape (Scargo Lake Cafe gets kudos for their great gluten free bread). How they could charge $25 for a burger and then serve it on an Udi's bun takes a lot of nerve and shows that they don't care about people who must eat gluten free. My mother ordered their fried chicken sandwich, which was very spicy, yet the waitress had told her it wouldn't be. We were also told that even the French fries wouldn't be gluten free so we had to choose a salad as our side dish. Their excuse for a salad is pathetic - it's just baby lettuces with no sauce or anything else in it. Also, bread and butter was never brought to the table, nor was any salt or pepper. But, this is a magnificent old hotel, and they've got a nice drinks menu. This might be a place to go just for drinks and the view. But eat someplace else! read more

My husband and I heard great things about this place... but, its definitely not worth the drive.. There are three restaurants under one roof. Great atmosphere and staging, but the food is just okay. For starters: scallops (delicious) cooked just right crab dip, tasty but salty. We waiting at least 40 minutes... Entrée both came out warm. lobster risotto, lobster, warm and risotto was mushy Ribeye for two medium rare, warm, broccoli rabbit, cold. We asked for manager, he took the ribeye back and still nothing changed. Not worth the price or drive... do you research. read more
