I am updating my review on 1/28/23 8.5/10 This place has become a go to for me. I have gotten the chicken sheek kabob and it's so good but make sure you get the onion chutney with it. You must get the chicken tikka. Some of the best I've had in all my adventures. I've been getting the paneer karahi and it's also very good. Can't really go wrong with the food here! Must try!!

Decent Indian food. Not the best I've had, but still rather good. It was empty when we arrived but started to get busier after our order was placed. Lots of take out and to-go orders were fulfilled while the dining room started to bustle. The main issue was lack of staff. Think there was one person in the kitchen and there was only one fine young gentleman handling the entire front. We had to wait for quite a while to get our check...but the food was served fairly fast since we were there before the rush. We ordered naan, raita, mango chutney, channa masala and chicken tikka masala. Mango chutney usually has a kick to it...this version was just sweet. Naan was fine and the rice that accompanied the main courses was good. Main entrees were (as mentioned) decent; didn't make me want to over engorge like I normally do with kick-butt Indian fare. That said, I'd go back to try the buffet and other dishes sometime.

Chili Chicken at Chatpata Indian Restaurant... a must if it's on the buffet.

Above-average North Indian buffet with a la carte ordering as well. There's a generous selection of about a dozen tureens that seems to change frequently, judging from the extra labels they leave on top of the sneeze guards. Quite a range of vegetarian choices as well as meat dishes. They have goat curry on Friday, Saturday and Sunday: meat chunks in a mildly spicy broth. Tandoori chicken was tough and without the charred onions I like on the side. My favorite dish was something called "Chili Chicken", like an Indian version of sweet & sour. Unusually wide choice of condiments (chutneys and raita). The buffet is $9.95 at lunch, $11.95 at dinner and includes naan, tea and rice pudding. This is a high 3 stars and would probably hit 4 stars except for service issues: used plates were not picked up and water glasses were not refilled. But I was there quite late in the lunch hour and the server may have been on his/her break.

Chicken Tikka Masala & 10.7. Garlic Naan, delicious

Ordered through Doodash and food was amazing! Highly recommend and definitely would ordered again.

Green salad. I'm not sure if this looks like a salad that restaurants are supposed to be serving. Lettuce are red and tomatoes are mushy :(

Lovely restaurant, very attentive waiters and everyone was extremely helpful. When they say hot,…read morethey DO mean "hot" as in Indian hot, not American hot. Forewarned is forearmed! The shrimp dish we had was excellent. Vegetable biryani had a nice mix of vegetables and rice - and if you judge an Indian restaurant in part by its rice, theirs is outstanding. We shared two lamb dishes and were disappointed in one. We'd hoped the lamb would be "falling apart", so soft it would melt in the mouth. Unfortunately, the small lamb pieces in the rogan josh were pretty chewy and somewhat unpleasant. The lamb kebabs however were nice and almost sweet, and we'd order them again. The dosa was marvelous and the chapati tasted fresh. The lassis are extremely sweet. Extremely. They can't be made less sweet, because they're made from a mix -- so if you're looking for authentic lassi, with fruit, yogurt, cardamom, etc, this is not your place. That was very disappointing since part of the restaurant's claim to fame is its authenticity. Our real quibble was when we were trying to decide on an extra appetizer, someone (perhaps the manager?) came over and asked about what we wanted. We asked about a few things and he said "Let me bring you something to taste - if you don't like it you don't have to pay for it." It was very large for an appetizer, and we each had a bite, but left most of it. Nevertheless, we were charged for it. Perhaps we needed to say "We didn't like it" but it was good - it was just much more expensive than we'd have chosen for an extra appetizer. The garlic naan by the way was good but a bit greasy. Still, good!

The food was phenomenal, and the service really stood out. Even though I already knew what I was ordering, our waiter took the time to explain each dish, which made the experience feel welcoming and approachable. The butter chicken was absolutely amazing...so aromatic, flavorful, and one of the best I've had. It is a bit more expensive and the portions are smaller than some of the other Indian restaurants in the Albany area, but the quality, atmosphere, and service make it well worth it for a special meal or an occasional treat.

Their lunch buffet (weekdays) is 14.95 and it always includes at least 1 meat on the buffet besides chicken, which I appreciate. Most Indian buffets are chicken dishes only. I find the seasonings used here to be pleasantly well done- it is never bland/lacking in flavor and it is also (when spicy) never overwhelming/too hot to enjoy. We're very fond of Indian buffets so have been looking in this area for a while; this is the best we've found so far. Attentive servers bring water and clear plates regularly. Restaurant is very clean and well run. Enjoy it!

Though it does need some attention here and there, such as along the wall next to the table at which I was seated. But don't let things like that take away from the great food here. The lunch buffet (slightly higher price on weekends) has an assortment of vegetable and lentil dishes, several chicken offerings and today a goat dish. Everything I sampled had very strong and distinct flavors. My favorites were the chilli broccoli and the lemon chicken, I needed second helpings of those. The chicken tikka masala will probably be more tender as the day goes on. I thought some of the vegetable dishes and the dal were a bit watery, though still delicious. You get quite a lot of naan (regular or butter naan are offered). Dessert today was a vermicelli kheer with a hint of cardamom, and a very creamy carrot halwa with just the right amount of sweetness. There are quite a lot of Indian restaurants in the Capital District that offer a lunch buffet. I feel this is the best one on the east side of the Hudson River, and a place I'd choose to visit again when I'm in that area.

It is an open Kitchen mostly takeout place with several booths/tables for dine in, if wanted. I would order this dish again even though the menu has many enticing items. The Lamb Curry included a tasty, flavorful white rice that complemented the curry well. The owner included extra sauces including a Mint-Yogurt one that was delicious. I should have ordered one of the many varieties of Naan, and next time I will. Check out their menu. The owner greeted you with a smile. Two others prepared the food. While another customer (Gyros) and I waited for our orders at 11:30 am (I arrived early), the owner served us a sample of their Kheer after asking us if we had a milk allergy. This traditional Indian Rice dessert was far superior in flavor and texture to what I have eaten at other local restaurants that serve it. (Kheer is a creamy, traditional dessert made by simmering rice with whole milk, sugar, and aromatics like cardamom and saffron.) The owner even included a complimentary serving of Kheer with my order. Nice! They thank you for your order when you leave. The restaurant was pristine including the recently washed windows.
