So this place is awesome!! My hubby and I stopped in for lunch. He had a meatball sandwhich that was so good, the flavors were great! I had chicken pho, the broth is a little sweeter than I'm used to but still great I put some chili sauce in the bowl and problem solved. Also the spring rolls yum and I could just drink the sauce that comes with them. Had a mango peach boba smoothie it was great. The Customer service here was awesome as well very friendly folks. Haven't been here in awhile... the place is owned by different people. Service was great... very friendly. The pho broth was good, meat was tender... my egg rolls were fresh and hot and taste amazing! The pork sandwich was ok... not bad but not great, I was disappointed by the flavor but I ate it.. the veggies were fresh so that was good! Excellent pho, friendly customer service, and the Boba Tea smoothie was amazing! I got the Beef Pho and it was awesome, it had both meatballs and thinly sliced beef served with the standard side of bean sprouts, fresh basil leaves, lime wedges. The Boba Tea was loaded with tapioca pearls (everyone's favorite part). The place is kind of small, and the decor is like any other cozy counter service restaurant in a quaint little strip mall outside the military post. If I was going to be here longer I would definitely become a regular customer. I would/will highly recommend this place to all my friends that come through the area. read more

Was my first time here. On a Sunday. The family work ethic is incredible! I ordered a blueberry smoothie with tapioca and a beef pho (large). I've never had PHO so I don't know what to compare it with however I lived in Japan for a year and ate plenty of noodles with broth that was similar. This was a little sweet tasting. I could not find a boba tea/smoothie place anywhere in CenTex, so I was thrilled to find Chau's. I went for just a smoothie but the delicious smells drew me in and I ordered two eggrolls also. The service was excellent. So friendly! My total was just over $7, and I was able to pay with a card. Smoothie was delicious as was the eggrolls. Small resturant but Good food. When I went they were out of bread so I couldn't get the delicious sandwiches so I settled for the regular beef noodle soup(reg,lrg) it came with bean sprouts,cilantro,and limes. Great little spot! We came in 30mins before closing and they still delivered great service and delicious food! We frequent here and choose this spot over others due to great customer service and consistency in the pho broth. Since this is a small restaurant seating can be a hit or miss especially seating a family of 4 or more. There isn't a kids menu but that can be arranged by ordering a large pho and adding on extra broth and noodles to share in an extra bowl. read more

YES! Score one for Killeen! I was about to give up on pho in this area. It's like the MTV show Catfish (don't judge my television viewing taste). These folks have these long beautiful relationships with people for years, to meet these people who are NOTHING like they have portrayed themselves to be. That's how my experiences with pho in this area have been. Oh, this review says your pho is spectacular. So do the other five... so ready to dine! Then, the pho comes out to be something else. Catfished. But Chau's Cafe delivered. Walking in it was clean with free wifi, and offered a very small array of pho and banh mi and appetizers and a wide array of boba/tapioca drinks. I had to try a smidgen of everything. Had the combo pho, combo banhi mi and the classic pearl milk tea. I found the pho to be a bit pricey but I'll dance with it since it was classic in taste and had plenty of meat. On top of that, the accompanying plate of greens that came with it for my own taste bud delights had thai basil to adorn the pho. None of the competitors have that added touch, that really stepped it up. The banh mi ingredients were pretty on point. I really liked the amount of buttah in it but could have done with a more french baguette - crispy factor wasn't quite there. Milk tea with the tapioca was not lacking in amount of boba and I felt that it was steeped just right. Not bad! We were driving back from a short road trip and needed to eat. We chose this place based on the Yelp reviews. This is a small place in an old looking strip mall. They offer a few Bahn Mi's, Pho, spring rolls, egg rolls, and a large variety of smoothing with the pearls. I think it was OK to good and I can see why people local to the area would like it but I am not a "Fan" or think it's as good as it gets. I have had many Bahn Mi's and this one was good but I have definitely had much better (like Pho Van in Austin). The bread was way too big for the little amount of pork, veggies, etc that went inside. It's served on a fairly large french bread but with a little amount of filling. I had that moment of "where's the pork?" when they placed it in front of me. :-( I was sad. I left hungry but wasn't going to order another one. My friend had the Pho and let me taste it. It was good and had a decent broth. I kind of wish I had ordered Pho over the Bahn Mi but I was really craving one. Service was great. Prices are extremely reasonable. So long Chau...we'll miss you! I've brought many friends here when the place opened up. Chau ran it mostly by himself and did it well. The soup was the closest I tasted to my favorite place in Washington. The vietnamese iced coffee was delicious, and so was his other smoothies such as the honey dew and cookies and cream. New ownership doesn't run this place with the same upbeat smile and welcoming aspect that Chau built this place with. I've came so acquainted with Chau I would hold meetings in his restaurant with prospective clients, buying them lunch and a coffee here. The service here is now lacking, don't get as much as a hello when you walk in. They work slow, the recipe is almost the same but maybe a tad off. The coffee was overly sweet and milky, with less coffee. Second time, they again, didn't greet us or acknowledge us as we came in. Waited at the front register for a few minutes to order till someone said something, even though both ladies were within 5 feet of me and saw me come in. I grabbed my wife and kid and left. In a town devoid of fine or even palatable cuisine, Chau's is a godsend. Before I go ahead with the details, however, I have to set one thing straight -- anyone who would call Chau's Cafe a "hole in the wall" has obviously either never been to an actual hole in the wall establishment or has lived in Texas their entire life. But on to the meat and potatoes. Chau's is run by Mr. and Mrs. Chau and occasionally their daughter, and it really shows. The service is warm and personal; the food is always prepared individually and has that fresh homemade air to it. I got the "everything" Pho (Dac Biet) and the soup was comparable to almost any other place I'd had back at home in SF; I also saw that they had Bun Bo Hue on the menu, which I am definitely going to try when I come back. They also specialize in Banh Mi, which are as huge as Cuban sandwiches; my SO has also claimed many times over that she would have opened a Boba store in Killeen herself if Chau's ever closes down, so I can assure you it's worth checking out if you're into the whole milk tea thing as well. (Milk and sugar... in tea?? Blasphemy!) All in all, Chau's is an amazing addition to the Killeen/Fort Hood area -- supporting your local business can't get any better when it tastes as good as Chau's. read more

Glad I came back here. The first time I came, I ordered a regular Bubble Milk Tea. When I received my drink, I was disappointed that the tea had a lemon flavor to it - kind of like something you'd make lemon ice-tea with. I thought it was peculiar since regular milk teas are usually black tea based. The boba was prepared well though. Because of that first experience, I was leery about getting bubble tea there again. Well, I went back to Chau's some time later since I decided to try their pho based off other Yelpers. Their dine-in menu is small, so don't expect anything expansive. I was happy to see that they had Banh Mi, rolls, and the option for a bowl of pho. When my pho came out, I was pleasantly surprised. The broth was actually pretty good! The amount of meat and noodles was just right. Since I love boba so much, I decided to try their bubble tea again. I asked the lady running the register what tea was used for the regular milk tea, and she declared "Black." This time when I got my milk tea, it was correct. The balls were chewy and the milk tea was just right - so they've got my vote now for good boba. Better than O-Mart since the supermarket uses powder bases and they only give you a tiny amount of boba. Oh, Chau's bubble teas/smoothies only come in one size - Large. Simply delicious! I ordered the beef pho it was very good! My only complaint for giving 4 stars is the size portion is small. The regular pho comes with only 2 pieces of meat and 2 meatballs.. I would probably ask for more noodles next time as well. read more

i went here specifically for bubble drinks/tea, and I went around 1400 on a Friday; prior to walking in I got harassed by someone trying to get money from me (i.e. shady area), then I ordered a frozen coconut bubble drink and a green tea honey/mango bubble drink. The staff were nice but the place was empty and dark. Unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing. The boba (tapioca pearls) were fine, but the actual drinks were not good. The coconut did not taste like coconut and the tea was so sweet it did not even taste like tea. I was excited to find a place around here with decent reviews and bubble drinks but disappointed with the end product that cost me over 10 $. read more

Food is great. The sandwich are homemade and the eggrolls are the real winners. However I ordered a drink with boba, the Boba was mushy and tasted off. I told the business about it and they said they would remake one. They sure did, they just Blended the Boba into my drink and I was really disappointed and told them. This restaurant is right next to O Mart where there is a boba shop. If I'm paying the same price as a boba shop I expect the Boba to be cooked properly. read more

I love Chau's Cafe! Very affordable and their pho is delicious, much better than that Chopstick place on Trimmier. Their smoothies (with boba) are much better than Omart's and they have a lot of flavors to choose from! The owners are very nice. When I first went, I didn't know there was a $10 limit for credit cards, and that was all I had. One of the owners allowed it for that one time and just reminded me to use cash next time unless I'm over $10. When my husband and I went for pho, one of the owners brought out a hot, nicely toasted baguette to dip into the broth. They also gave me a sample of their Vietnamese coffee which is also amazingly delicious. Next time I think I will try their pork noodles or their banh mi. The atmosphere is nice and comfortable and they have free wi-fi, too! **Edit 9/21/12** I finally tried their bahn mi - DELICIOUS!!! Always made fresh to order and hot. Home from school for spring break, I wanted a quick bubble tea fix. Dallas has an abundance of shops dedicated to the art of bubble tea, while Killeen is severely lacking. I searched for a bubble tea shop to no avail and instead came across this shop which happened to serve bubble tea along with pho and such. This review is for their bubble tea, specifically the: -thai milk tea the only one I had a small complaint about: the sugar was not completely dissolved so it had a bit of a grainy texture, flavor wise: one of the better thai teas I've had -strawberry banana peach smoothie probably my favorite out of the three: very refreshing, prominence of flavors: banana strawberry, peach -pina colada smoothie texture was nice, flavor: typical pina colada flavor, what more can you expect The bubbles themselves were very smooth/chewy. If there's one thing that can ruin bubble tea, it's hard/grainy bubbles that get stuck in straws and teeth. Service was a bit slow for an order of 3 bubble tea drinks, but I'll chalk this up to the fact that bubble tea isn't their primary item of sale. I would come back again not because they're one of the rare places that offer boba (maybe a little), but because of the taste of the drinks themselves and the consistency of the bubbles. If you're craving bubble tea while in town check this place out, but be prepared to wait a bit longer than usual. read more

Yesterday my husband, and I went to Chaus with our 15 month old son. We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, a grilled pork sandwich, a bowl of pho, taro smoothie, and a boba milk tea. This is the 3rd place I've tried pho in Killeen and their pho was delicious. The broth was tasty, and the noodles were cooked nicely. They only have the one choice of pho (which included 3 types of beef- brisket, rare steak, and meatball) everything was decently priced and everything was pretty good, worth the money. The place was very clean and set up like a cute cafe. There is free wifi, so it's a nice hang out spot. I've been looking out for a decent smoothie place and somewhere with amazing boba drinks. I know where I'll be cooling off on hot days! The only reason I gave it a 4 star is that the sandwich meats were kinda salty. Other than that, the service was very friendly! read more

This place is extremely delicious. I got the large beef pho and thai tea with boba. All the ingredients in the pho tasted extremely fresh, and the broth was different tasting than what I'm used to, but was delightfully full of flavor. The Thai Tea Boba was refreshing, the boba wasn't rubbery like most other places. Overall a very enjoyable meal, quiet atmosphere, and pleasant staff. read more

Chau's Cafe is one of my new favorite spots in the area. The prices are really generous. I don't know how they're affording to sell things at this price. All of the sandwiches are about 3-4 dollars and most of the smoothies/teas/slushes are about 3 dollars, also. Some may say that the price of the drinks is a bit much, but I'd say go across the street to Starbucks and then tell me about price. I love the variety of all of the drinks and I love the uniqueness of the sandwiches. Maybe I just haven't been to many Vietnamese places, but Chau's sandwiches have an amazing combinations of flavors. There's cucumber and cilantro and carrot and even more to love. Last, let me talk about the people at this place. I think the owners are husband and wife and they are SO NICE! I once brought a friend in who was only able to stay a few minutes, so she just ordered a sandwich with the intention of taking it with her to eat in the car. It was very cold that day and when her sandwich came out they brought her a hot tea to go along with it, totally unasked for, on the house. They're always willing to help you try new things and if you come back a few times, will quickly learn your name and how you like things. read more
