This site says they're dog friendly. They are not. They need to update this. This was the reason we came here.

If you're traveling to Vallecito, Pagosa, or Durango (I recommend all three,) this might be your best choice for Mexican food. It appears to be family owned and operated. We had an amazing lunch at Chavolo's in Bayfield on our way to Pagosa from Lake Vallecito. I had a combination dinner with a shredded chicken enchilada Suiza and a ground beef taco in a homemade tortilla that was fried to make a crispy shell. It was the BEST DAMN TACO I have ever eaten and I'm from Texas. The flavor was great and their salsa complimented it nicely. The portions were huge and I took most of my enchilada and rice / beans home for dinner. I'll go back just to order a couple of tacos. The refried beans were fresh with their Mexican rice. Well let's just say that I was craving some Mexican food and I was in for a treat ! I got the Chili Relleno -- it was so yummy ! Strawberry margarita was also good ! Best choice for mexican food, only two choices :- P, and it gets four instead of three stars for their salsa (the burnt chili pepper), margaritas (huge fish bowl), and service. The tamales and enchiladas was I don't know fried in fat. You couldn't cut the food with a fork and knife.

We stopped for a late lunch on our way to Durango. We had read good reviews and thought we would try it. Karena was our server and was wonderful. The food was so delicious. I had a cheese enchilada and a shredded beef enchilada. My lunch so good! My hubby had the chicken tortilla soup and was raving that it was the nest he has ever had! AMAZING & Authentic mexican food! The owner grew up in Mexico and is adamant about keeping his menu authentic. The food is absolutely delicious. The margaritas are not only delicious but difficult to choose which one you want! (We had the mango). The chef and management team here is even more amazing. They are friendly, caring, and detail oriented. The facility is clean and organized. Just go here already! I recommend the Chicken con crema, margaritas, and the fajitas. I've eaten at this restaurant in Pagosa. And in Bayfield... The Carnitas is amazing and the flautas are good but don't ever get a cheese enchilada. The enchilada sauce is disgusting. Odelay Chavolo's! Your tomatillo verde chili is still the best in town! I arrived on a super-busy night recently, (late again), to find a table for 8, yes 8 people! And, not surprisingly, your professional staff calmly arranged a table for us right away. Just as before, I ordered the green pork chili, and was super happy I did! I also got two crunchy tacos, excellent guacamole, and iced tea to help wash it all down. Yummy! Just the way I like it. Tangy, with a little bit of spice, a whole lot of green, and so much food I could barely finish it all. My family was happy with their selections, and everything came out rather quickly considering how many hungry people there were. My hat is off to you. I'll see you next time! Salud! read more

This place is awesome! We come here every Saturday after the farmers market in Durango or if ever passing through. Everybody from the manager on down is always very friendly and accommodating, and the food is delicious. Highly recommend it if you're ever in this part of the woods. read more

Huge portions, friendly service, great rice and beans, outstanding margaritas! Get the roasted green salsa if you like some heat on your food. Food takes a little time to come out but if you want fast food go to Taco Bell or a place like that. This is authentic Mexican food and you don't rush that! read more

My wife and I went here again a few days ago thinking we would have a better experience than our last times. That did not happen. We sat on the porch which is stripped down, functional, clean, but not fancy. The porch is covered, which adds to its attractiveness. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I found no fault in our service from her. She was timely from the time we sat down until the time we left. Our food was sub-par. I ordered the pork enchilada and relleno with a side of beans and rice. The relleno was a large poblano pepper that was barely filled with any cheese, and was covered in a cake-like batter which made the whole thing inedible. The enchilada had no sauce associated with it, was very salty and the pork was dry and charred. Snotty refried beans with typical spanish rice. Too much salt and not enough flavor. I could not even finish a 1/4 of my meal. My wife had a flank steak that was over seasoned. She could not finish her meal. The chips and salsa were OK at best. Unfortunately, Colorado is rife with "chain family-ran" restaurants that are really cutting corners with their ingredients in order to make the highest profit when turning tables. The quality of these establishments and their fare are hit-or-miss. This restaurant has routinely disappointed us and I strongly assert that if you have discerning taste in foods that are fresh vs frozen or mix-made meal components that you must avoid this place. read more

First time there! Got the chicken fajitas! Delicious! You get lots so easily could be for 2! Peach Margarita blended was delicious as well. Made to feel welcome the minute you step in ! Took leftovers home. Went to salsa bar, only 1 to go cup in there and salsas were at the very bottom! So pay attention to restocking cups and refilling salsa bar ! But will be back ! read more

Great Service, Drinks and Food! What else can I say. We stopped here this past Friday night while visiting In-Laws at their house in Colorado. The Patron Margarita's were poured just right. They had an incredible tasting freshly made guacamole dip. I ordered the fajitas for my meal which was honestly a large enough portion for 3. I ended up having to get a "to go" box to take them home so we could enjoy them for a few more meals. It is a small restaurant and from what I understand always packed...so if you do not like a loud, fun atmosphere this isn't your place...but we had a ton of fun.
