    Salmon Rice Ball

3.5 stars Chaya is a small ramen/rice bowl restaurant located in the heart of the Town of Banff. We got here at around 3pm and we were seated right away. I think the max capacity is around 20 people. A friend of ours was in Banff about a month ago and recommended the place. The ramen is made with Japanese egg noodles in pork broth soup. You have a choice of shoyu, miso, tan tan, wonton, bbq pork and vegan. We all got the miso, which only came with one slice of pork, corn, sprouts and seaweed for $16-18 CAN. $7 CAN for an extra slice of pork seems steep. The broth was good, not mind blowing. I was hoping for more toppings because I'm spoiled and used to the extra toppings in US like an egg, more meat and veggies. They also have curry and rice bowl. We also got the Gyoza to share, which was tasty with crispy edges. The Salmon Rice Ball was not what I expect with way too much rice and very little salmon. It would taste better with less rice and some seasoning. The matcha cheesecake was delicious. Friendly service.

Ramen and small plates with no frills. Fast quick service. I usually come here for a quick tasty bowl of ramen. It's just as fast as mcdonalds. It's tasty and quick. The broth is rich and tasty. Most items are $15 to $18 though. So it's not the cheapest option. There's not too much toppings for that price but I did however like the prices for small plates as they were very reasonable and all less than $6 each. It's a nice stop on banff with no lines and you don't need a reservation. Place is small with just 5 tables though in prime location close to mcdonalds on banff Ave. I would skip the cheesecakes though they were tiny slices and were not flavourful at all. And frankly tasted old and stale. Takeout is packaged well though.

Fantastic hole in the wall spot with great ramen. Slurped it all down! If it's cold or rainy don't pass this spot up.

Miso ramen with pork. Had started eating before taking the so it was more lovely before I stirred it up.

The ramen was delicious! On a cold night it was just what we needed. The portions were generous without being wasteful. The service was very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend!

Unassuming place next to McDonald's. You wouldn't notice it unless you look for it. This place serves authentic Japanese udon, ramen and curry. Best Asian food we've had in Banff.

    Katsu Don- very filling!

Quaint Japanese restaurant in downtown Banff with lots of Japanese food options! They have different types of ramen & broth, along with katsu rice bowls and appetizers. Since they are super small, there are only 4 tables in the restaurant. Lots of to-go orders during our dine in. Service is quite quick as well. My family had their dandan noodle, it didn't taste quite like what I was expecting it to be like other places I've had (less peanutty). The Katsu Don that I had was actually quite good and filling!

very cozy. very traditional ramen, udon, soba or curry if you enjoy a focused menu youll love this small 8 table restaurant tucked away on the main drag in Banff!

The food quality is good and delicious. As an Indonesian, I definitely like the taste and the texture of the ramen and udon. I had a Curry Udon. I give it a go for a suggestion to people visiting Banff and the price is reasonable ranging from CAD$ 5 up to 18.

    Wonton soup (front), tantan noodles

Settled on this place wanting something lighter. The patio outside is nice and the servers are friendly. The wonton soup was a decent portion (4pc) and pretty standard. The tantan noodles were spicy! I ordered a tea expecting a single cup but was surprised they gave us a whole pot and tea cups to share. Overall not bad for the price.

Miso Ramen with extra noodle and chachou

First time in Banff. But definitely not first time to eat Japanese Ramen. The noodle is good and firm to my taste. With $1.50 you can get extra noodle. Good deal. $5 for extra BBQ Pork. Price is overall reasonable for a tourist spot. Unlike Niagara Falls, everything is jacked to the max. But the soup is too salty. It's close to original taste of Japanese ramen. If someone prefer light taste, I'd recommend tantan noodle instead of miso. They don't have many toppings to select like in Montreal.

Delicious and authentic. Tan Tan ramen is our favorite. Spicy, mouthwatering broth. Hard to get a table, always a wait. Worth it.

This place used to be great, but now it's mostly a bowl of broth. There's another Ramen place in town that charges less, and gives you more.

By the time we were ready, it took a while to find someone to take our order. The most wanted item is sold out, a fact that they told us upon ordering. Will be appreciated if we know ahead of time so we have more time to consider 'back up item'. There was a table beside us (came after us) who also discussed about ordering same sold-out items, and I was very tempted to tell them that it's sold out. But I figure it's not my place to say because the restaurant must have its own reason for NOT telling this upfront!!?????!! Ordered pork belly skewer , shiitake skewer, shrimp in spicy peanut sauce, and aburi salmon handroll, miso creme brulee. Best items are the shrimp with spicy peanut sauce, and miso creme brulee. Just wow!! For the rest: -If u have eaten shiitake before (at home for example) , u know nothing can go wrong with shiitake as it's already flavorful in its own (safe choice). -Pork belly has good flavor but kinda too fatty (it is a totally different style from the one I usually eat at other places). -Aburi salmon handroll doesnt taste like aburi at all. Just normal handroll basically. Nth special. It was my friend's birthday, we asked if they hv noodle (considering we were farrr from home) and they said it's only available during lunch (which is understandable), but then nth else was done to help celebrate this moment when they hear this fact (simple smile or simple 'happy birthday' could be a gift in its own). Overall, food-wise, we agree on best item and that this place is kinda meh (in terms of food selection and feels like very few 'flavor-worthed' ones).

We ordered to share: Bison carpaccio: 8/10, the large pieces of black salt(?) was overwhelming the bison, but otherwise very unique and worth trying Burrata salad: 100/10, super refreshing and unique palate of thinly ribboned squash covered with tarragon vinaigrette and burrata. Smoked trout doughnut: 8/10, interesting combination of sweet (donut, lemon glaze) and savory (smoked trout, herbed Crème Fraîche, everything bagel seasoning, pickled shallot) Individually: Strip sirloin: I didn't have this one but 10/10 for work of art presentation. Huge piece of steak though. Roasted chicken: 9/10 myself and one other got the chicken. Tender and well seasoned with sweet and spicy harissa honey glaze and chili crisps. It looked like they gave half a whole chicken to her and the other half to me, huge portions. Probably could've been 3 meals. Peyto's ribs: 9/10 had to get it for the touch of maple paprika. Seared ling cod: 9/10 it's the only portion that remotely made sense for a single person and didn't end with leftovers. The dimly lit atmosphere at Brazen is perfect to unwind in after a long day of hiking and exploring. The portions are generous and flavor profile recommendations between appetizers, mains, and drinks well explored. Highly recommend making an advance reservation to try!

We then shared a Waldorf salad, which was refreshing and nice. Then we both selected red wine varietals grown in Canada. I had a Cabernet/Merlot blend which was super great. Would've never guessed it was from Canada. Next, My wife enjoyed a Pinot Noir that was light and complimented our entrée perfectly. Our entrée was the fillet and prawns served over a garlic mashed potato. This is an absolutely extraordinary dish. We shared it and it was just enough for two people. It is a full meal for one person. The filet temperature preparation was perfect. The prawns were extraordinary, and the garlic mashed potato made you curl your toes! Then we closed the evening with the melted chocolate soufflé, which was divine. Here's the one thing that they missed and to me it's an important miss. They use an automated system for taking reservations. And it kept asking for my name to which I said "Chris" and the automated system kept asking me what's your name!? So it asked hey fourth time and in my frustration I got playful and I said "Big Daddy." And it happily received my name and took my reservation. And then asked if there was any special occasion and I said yes my wife and I are celebrating our anniversary. I get that it may not seem normal to say "Big Daddy party for two". So I'll kind of let that pass because neither front door or upstairs Host was willing to ask. But what I don't like that was missed was our anniversary wasn't acknowledged. I was a server for years, and every host gave the server some type of chit or note to let them know if there is a special occasion. We specifically selected a higher end restaurant for anniversary. So somewhere in there, even if you weren't brave enough to say "Big Daddy for two." Someone still should've checked if you were celebrating any special occasion to which we were. Our anniversary. Our server was fabulous. She was super kind helpful and shared about her experience being in Banff. She made us feel great. My overall experience, the Mapleleaf is a great restaurant. But I'm scoring you an A- because you missed our anniversary. and that's why we chose you. So if you're going to use AI, you can't miss special occasions. Chris & Trisha from Long Beach, CA
