We've been going to Arroyo for a few years now and have always trusted them, still do! I'm so happy to see that they're finally expanding to their new building. Our husky has been having stomach issues, loss of appetite, and getting more lethargic. We took her to the emg room but they estimated an insanely large bill! We declined the treatment plan in hopes of our dog being able to be seen/treated at Arroyo but they're busy this week. However, Tina has been so great at looking out for the schedule and made a courtesy to reach out when there was a cancellation. With a newborn & going thru postpartum, she has been so helpful thru it all. (I am currently writing this review while my dog is there and I'm at home with the baby, wanted to do this before I forget. But also thanks to the vet tech!! ... I think her name was Angie, she had tattoos - she's been so helpful and updating me with everything) thank you Arroyo Vet Clinic!! You guys are the best!!! read more

I should have wrote this a while ago, but I am still incredibly upset with two incidents at his vet. First, I took a very sick kitten to get treatment. The positive, I called on Christmas Eve and they were about to close and weren't opened on Christmas (obviously), but the receptionist was able to schedule us on the 26th. We get seen on the 26th, and get antibiotics to treat the kitten. All is good at this point, We come back a week later for a follow up and the vet sees the kitten is recovering well but still on antibiotics. But she insisted on giving her the first series of vaccinations. I hesitated thinking shouldn't we wait until she's completely recovered? But the vet insisted, so she gets them. I should have gone with my instinct. Later that night, around 1:30am, I wake up to find her head moving erratically and her eyes moving rapidly side to side. I immediately rush her to emergency where they gave her something to calm her and said to take her to her vet as soon as possible. So what happened, since the kitten was still recovering and her system was weak giving her the vaccinations caused a severe vestibular reaction, and permanently causing a head tilt in her. Whenever I take her to the vet that's the first thing they notice and I have to tell them the story of what happened at Arroyo. Second incident, I took another cat to check on an eye infection and they were still doing the "stay in your car, we'll get your pet to get checked or treated, etc". I asked is there any way I could be with my pet while they see her since she's very skittish with people other than my husband and I, I will wear my mask to be safe. They said "no" because of protocol. So I wait in the car. 10 - 15 minutes later the vet called to say my cat is a "spitfire" (code word, can't handle a scared cat) and ran from them, and they kind of lost her in the office, but now she's in one of the exam rooms hiding and she won't let them near. What the heck?!! Wasn't the exam room closed? And when you did catch her how did you handle and treat her?! I ask, could I just come in and try to get her and the vet said okay and let me in. They take me to the room. I find her hiding scared to death behind the computer monitor. I immediately go to her and pick her up to calm her. A couple minutes later I go out to let them know I have her and the staff just gives me this look like "how did you get her so fast and hold her". This is why I will only go to a vet who lets you be with your pet through the whole exam. Who knows what they are doing and how they are handling your pet behind closed doors. Because of these incidents I will not be going back to Arroyo and have been trying to find another vet I can trust. read more

We've had good experiences with the veterinarians, however their customer service needs work. The staff is friendly, but they would benefit from customer services training. There have been too many issues with their lack of communication & the way issues have been handled ultimately creating unnecessary frustration and makes me want to consider changing clinics. read more

We have taken our dogs to Arroyo Vet Clinic for over a decade. Dr. Mavi and all the staff are like family to us. Our dogs are treated quite well in all aspects of care. We have had dental work done several times with good success. In sad times, they have been really like family when it is time to say goodbye to one of ours. We trust them to do what ever is right for our pups. Having that trust in them is peace of mind our animals will be given the best care possible every time. We rescue older dogs with special needs and here they are always taken care of specific to their needs. Can not think of going elsewhere. read more

My family has been coming to Arroyo Vet for years now and we have always had positive experiences! The staff is fantastic and I always leave here feeling a lot better and relieved. Earlier this year, I brought my cat in because he had some respiratory issues. Dr. Royalty was able to diagnose him with feline asthma fairly quickly and helped me get him on a treatment plan, along with a new prescription diet as well. She was very professional and walked me through any questions I had, along with presenting me with multiple treatment options. Fast forward to now, he's no longer coughing or having any asthma attacks! Thanks for helping me keep my boy healthy :) I have since moved out of the area but I'll still come here, even it means driving 45 minutes. It's reasonably priced and they have great service. Public Review - We had a deeply upsetting experience at this clinic with our beloved cat, Peace Blossom. The main reason we came in was to have flea medication administered, as he was clearly suffering. We paid for the treatment and were led to believe it had been applied during the visit. Only today--days later--did we find out it was never administered. No one told us, and no one at the clinic acknowledged this as a problem. To make matters worse, we followed the clinic's post-visit instructions to avoid touching our cat for 48 hours so the medication could "absorb." Peace Blossom is an extremely affectionate cat, and not being able to comfort him while he continued to itch and cry out was heartbreaking. We were trying to do the right thing based on their guidance--only to find out it was based on a lie of omission. During the appointment, we also heard him let out a long, blood-curdling scream when taken to the back for lab work. In our 16 years of caring for him, we've never heard him make such a sound. It was traumatic for us and clearly terrifying for him. The behavior of everyone we interacted with at this clinic was cold, indifferent, and frankly strange. We have been cat and dog owners for many years and have never encountered such a lack of empathy or professionalism in veterinary care. I absolutely love the staff and the doctors. We have been taking our Morkie here for 5 years. Our fur baby is in good hands whenever we go for check ups and or concerns. They answer all of our questions and even give us suggestions without feeling pressured to go one way or another. I wish my own doctor's office ran this efficiently ! Tina is an absolute delight. Our baby lights up every time he sees her. She is such a kind person. She treats our baby like one of her own. I can honestly she has an amazing heart and truly genuine. Dr. Mavi is an amazing doctor and the care he gave to Teddy and Freddie was always highly appreciated. Unfortunately, the front desk staff, Tina as Customer Service Specialist Supervisor, if she has a challenging day, she will show her facade, the services offered to the customers are disrespectful and twisted. That happen to me when I asked how long will take the technician to come out and pick up Teddy for his nail trimming. I've been bringing my dog here since I adopted him 4 years ago. The last few visits here at Arroyo Vet weren't very satisfying to say the least. A few extra dollars that they charge for BS test and medication, and fake diagnosis will end up costing them new clients, losing old clients which means losing more money than the few extra dollars that they made off one cheated client. We are new to the Arroyo vet clinic, with our 5 month old Golden Retriever. Our boy sees Dr Mavi. He has been very kind and patient when we've brought in our boy. He gets down on the floor with him and is so sweet. Office staff are always polite and informative over the phone- and if they get your voicemail- leave very clear instructions. Last night we rescued a lost dog right as the vet was closing. We called 5 places for a microchip scan and Arroyo was the only one who offered it. They stayed open 15 mins late just for us! They quickly scanned her, got the info for me to call 24PetWatch, and we were able to drive the pup straight from the vet to her humans. I took my senior dog Coco in for a check up especially because of her arthritis. Everything went well. They did a laser treatment which seems to have helped. I am a senior myself and live on a Social Security budget. This visit cost me $691!! After coming home I went online to compare the prices of her medications she was sent home with and was so upset to see how I could have saved lots of money had they given me the option to do so! A close friend of mine who goes to another vet in San Leandro said her vet ALWAYS tells her she can get any meds for her dog cheaper online! That's what vets SHOULD DO!! I will definitely bring this up to Arroyo Pet Clinic! Very, very upsetting!! De. Mavi neutered Kinty and did a great job, no issues. Kinty got chipped, had his wellness exam, and vaccines all in one whirlwind visit, 8:30am - 3:30pm. Jennifer was super helpful getting the cat from the parking lot and returning him after the procedure. She inspired me to go buy a cat carrier, which I did. Charlie LIKES going in there. He likes what he smells in the lobby. He loves his vets and their staff. He LOVES that his momma can witness how well behaved he is when he is there. I had to find a new vet who I could trust to take care of my sweet furr babies and decided to try them out. The last place that I went to in castro valley, their staff were very loud, immature, laughing and cracking jokes, all the while we were there with sick pets. They were so unprofessional that it was embarrassing. The staff who have been helping me on the phone and in person at Arroyo were amazing. They were very sweet, kind, professional, knowledgeable, and took amazing care of my animals. It was very obvious that they worked extremely well together as a team and I liked seeing that. Decided to try them after the customer service went down hill at our last vet. So glad we did. We appreciate how they took the time to explain everything. Our cat gets temperamental when his paws are touched. They worked with him and afterwards he just wanted them to pet him. We also liked that the office set up. Dr. Mavi and Dr. VanGilder have taken exceptional care of my baby boy. I've been taking my pup to arroyo vet for two years and my parents have been taking their boy there for at least 10. The care we have received is top notch and the staff are incredibly sweet and caring. The prices are what you would expect from the average vet clinic, but the customer service and obvious love for our pets is more than I could ask for. Since COVID they have been offering a sort of curbside service where you park and they collect your fur baby and return them to your car at the end of the visit. They offer payment by phone and make every transaction a breeze. I trust them with my pup's care and we'll being and that is saying a lot. Special shout out to Tina for always being such a sweetheart with all phone calls and requests. Consumers Beware: Bait and switch pricing. Constant "up-selling" of services not needed. Bogus testing. Bill Padding. After TWENTY years as a loyal customer, we are now realizing the deceptive business practices Dr. Mavi employs to sucker unsuspecting pet-lovers into paying for ridiculously expensive services that are not at all necessary. And watch out for the unexplained "miscellaneous" charges they tack onto your bill, ranging close to a thousand dollars! While our family is financially insecure, Dr. Mavi goes home to a 3.3 MILLION DOLLAR house every night that he probably afforded with all his ill-gotten gains. Not to mention the brand new "state-of-the-art" facility he's having built... is it being built on his customer's dime? I wouldn't be surprised, with the amounts he tries to charge. I would also be remiss if I did not mention the false diagnosis and elder financial abuse committed by Dr. Vangilder at this same establishment. After making a few calls, we found that other local vets were MUCH more affordable and had more prompt appointment times available. Steer clear of the SCAMMERS at Arroyo Vet Clinic. They exploited our love for our pets, milked it for all it was worth, and they exploited our TRUST. What's MORE EYE-OPENING is that their other doctor, Dr. Kornfeld, authors books and other literature which read like instruction manuals for other vets on how to best rip-off their clients and make inflated profits. In one publication, (and I'm paraphrasing) he talks about how a vet can LEVERAGE their clients' habits and patterns to turn more profit. Then goes on to say that clients who have paid for expensive procedures in the past are more willing to pay for other expensive procedures in the future- and these are the customers to target. He says to target pets with dental issues and senior pets. He offers a wealth of advice on how vets can invent profits out of thin air. He says the big bucks are in "preventative" care- teaching other vets that the way to maximize profits is to target owners of HEALTHY pets, under the guise of "preventative" care. Expensive diagnostic testing- you know, just to rule out any mystery illnesses that MIGHT be lurking inside- even though your pet displays zero symptoms of any illness, unnecessary annual exams, booster shots... He claims to have helped vet teams across 5 countries maximize their wealth with his dishonest methods. HOW ARE THESE PEOPLE NOT IN JAIL? How is this not considered FRAUD? read more

I've been going to Arroyo for approx. the last 7 years. The staff has always been amazingly helpful, kind hearted, and you can tell they care about your furry kids. When I give them a call, they have caller ID so they're able to pull up your info and kids info right away. So when I call they always makes me feel very welcomed, like they're part of the family. They're always enthusiastic, cheerful, and happy to help with anything I need assistance with. So A+ for them! =) As far as the different doctors there, I would have to say Dr. Mavi is by far the vet I am most comfortable and appreciative of. He takes time explaining things so that you fully understand. His 'bedside manner' is so that even if it isn't the best news he's giving you, he communicates it in a gentle, caring, and sympathetic way. In the past 2 years I've seen 2 other vets at Arroyo, and I am sorry to say I didn't have the best experiences with. I felt they did not have Dr. Mavi's same gentle bedside manner. Instead, the bad news was given to me in more of a blunt and unsympathetic way. Obviously it's hard for any parent to hear about any negative medical info... so it's very important to me that things are communicated 'gently'. However at 2 different visits with different doctors, I got to the point where I burst into tears both in the office and afterwards. After seeing 1 of those 2 other doctors, I felt like I was the world's worst parent, and couldn't get their comments out of my head which told me that I basically neglected my son and "what was I thinking??" The topic was that my Chihuahua was 11 at the time, very energetic, and when we go to the park and throw the ball around he just wants to keep playing and running after the ball. I mentioned that to him and I was told: "Are you crazy? He's basically an 80 year old man. Would you want to be running around at 80yrs old??? He only chases the ball because he thinks it makes 'you' happy, not because he enjoys it." So, during that visit I was balling. I cried my eyes out for a long, long time after that visit also. Now every time I take him to the park or the beach and he expects/wants to chase a ball, I then I re-live that moment, Repeating what I was told over-and-over in my head... "Are you crazy"? etc. etc. etc. Honestly thinking about how I was told that news while I type this is making me get emotional. Anyway, after that visit I will only see Dr. Mavi. I am very grateful to him for the care he gives. So to 99% of everyone at Arroyo, THANK YOU for all your care to my son and I through the years, and years to come! read more

Arroyo vet is awesome. Great people, very knowledgeable and compassionate. Doctor Sara Andre is wonderful. We just lost our beloved kitty, lily, to cancer, kidney disease and hyperthyroidism . We had her for 18 years and 8 months, and we miss her terribly. Doctor Andre even called us at home to offer us her condolences. The care that Lily got her last few weeks was wonderful. We did a private cremation, and when I brought her in I was a mess. The staff that was there when I came in were very supportive and comforting and they felt so bad for me. I really appreciated the fact that they cared how much I was hurting. I would recommend Arroyo Vet to anyone. Wonderful veterinary hospital and wonderful people. We recently switched veterinarians because of an chronic issue with one of my dogs. Arroyo Veterinary Clinic was able to take us in relatively quickly and see both our dogs at once. Jordan and Dr. Van Gilder were so kind to us and addressed all our issues. It was our first visit so we stayed a long time but never felt rushed and all our issues were taken seriously. Dr. Van Gilder was so sweet and patient with our dogs I think they fell in love with her immediately lol. Jordan also spent so long answering our questions and he is very knowledgeable. We didn't feel pressured into getting anymore than what we needed. The exam rooms are big and the waiting room is spacious and clean. All their employees were really nice.
