I met my mom here today for lunch and again, it was a great experience. We arrived right around 11:30, and there wasn't a line - a nice surprise! (The line is usually to the door.) The gentleman who helped us was super nice and patient (the tap mechanism on the card reader wouldn't work) and made sure our orders were correct. I went with their Panama Red and my mom got her staple - The Kind. My usual go to is their Bomb, but today I tried something new. Holy Moses. Their Panama Red (think chicken Parmesan adjacent) was SOOOO good. Very flavorful, perfectly cheesy, and on fresh, soft garlic bread. Heaven. We also shared their (giant) chocolate chip cookie. This was pretty much the best store-bought cookie I've ever had. It was soft and moist and had a loooooot of chocolate chips. I really do also love the vibe of this place. It's pretty fun! There's a lot to look at - stickers are *EVERYWHERE* lol I always see new ones every time I come in. Nowadays, food is expensive everywhere, so this place is on par with the rest of the world. My order is usually always right and if not they are willing to fix it. The people are always friendly that work here. There is not a ton of seating and you have to be okay sitting close to others. It does take an exceptional amount of time to make a sandwich. I walked into the Ahwatukee location on 10/13/25 and was immediately greeted by a blonde pixie haired goth girl radiating the kind of enthusiasm you'd expect from someone being forced to attend a family reunion. No hello, no smile--just a heavy sigh and a glare that said "Why are you even here?" As I looked over the menu, she gave me the classic up-and-down scan, paired with enough attitude to season fries. Our total came to $40. My husband handed her a $50 bill, and you'd think he offered Monopoly money the way she refused it. I could understand the drama if we were buying a single sandwich--but we weren't exactly out here trying to break $100. I come to this location all the time and have never had an issue. I've also never seen her RBF lurking behind the counter, so I'm assuming she's new. If that's the case, the training clearly skipped the part about basic human decency. I work in customer service myself--I know firsthand how draining it can be dealing with the public. But from the second I walked in, she had already made up her mind to be rude. Cheba Hut has amazing toasted subs, but unfortunately about 1/3 of the time when I request no onions it comes with onions. Today I had to dig deep to remove them embedded in the mozzarella. Even made incorrectly, I still really enjoy their subs and keep coming back. If you download the app, you not just earn rewards but you can mobile order and pay! I love Cheba Hut! Then why the one star review.... The music at this location made a difficult experience. Every Cheba Hut I've ever been to had a very good mix of different music while you dine. Not here! It's heavy metal grunge loud the entire time. I asked if they could turn it down or put on a good mix of songs and was told the manager selects the playlist and nobody can change it. They put on one song that was R&B and then went right back to the same grunge heavy metal songs. This is not aligned with my typical experience at a Cheba Hut! This restaurant is right by AMC ahwatukee and they have ample seating. The parking is common with the AMC theaters. Liked the sub here and the variety they have in the vegetarian menu! They have 2 bread options to choose from namely white, wheat and garlic. I tried the garlic and it was really flavorful. I went for the plant based sub minus the mushroom (not a fan). 3.5 stars on the cusp of 4 but I wasn't blown away. There are SO many 5 star reviews I had really high expectations plus the description of ingredients in the Apollo 13 sounded absolutely incredible. Chicken, garlic butter spread, feta cheese, kalamata olives, Greek vinaigrette with spring greens, red onions, and tomatoes. I had them hold the olives and red onion and add pickle. I expected to be blown away with flavor based on the garlic butter and vinaigrette alone. But it was just okay. I honestly couldn't taste garlic butter at all. I'd say next time I'd order extra butter and vinaigrette. Now on to the chicken. It was an odd consistency and it had a hard time getting passed it. I also ordered the garlic Parmesan pretzel nuggets that is served with a side of honey mustard and they were absolutely delicious and a must try! I like the different types of sandwiches they have and their selection is different from most places. I'm also a huge fan of toasted subs because of the melty cheese on top. I like the sandwiches here because they are tasty but not overwhelming. The bread is toasted and the sandwich has a great bread to content ratio. I leave feeling satisfied but not full. I like the kind, which is a turkey sandwich with bacon and mushrooms. I personally don't eat bacon (I know, I'm weird) so I remove it from the sandwich but that's really good.
