They had my car in the garage within minutes of my arrival and back out with my new sticker in less than 30. I honestly wouldn't share any of this info online for fear of them getting too many additional customers - LOL - however, the employees here have been super friendly and highly efficient and deserve recognition. I have no doubt, based on their very apparent high level of care, that should I have any mechanical issues in the future, they will be my first phone call. Second time I've brought my vehicle in for maintenance. The first time it was for a torn belt; I didn't know what the problem was but they fixed it quick and didn't try to sell me any unnecessary additional repairs. Most recently I got my state inspection, an oil change and tire rotation. Again, super quick service (called on a Friday, had an appointment scheduled for the following Monday). Dropped the car off, waited in the office for less than hour, and it was all set. At other places I've gone to I've had to drop my vehicle off the night before, and even then it would take all day. Not here, they get right to work and get things settled on time. I won't take my vehicle anywhere else so long as I live in Hampton Roads. Jerry said he could take my '97 Diesel right away to fix the diesel fuel leak at the top of the engine, so I took it in the following day. I told him that I had the dealership address the leak and was not satisfied with the Service Writers customer service nor the estimate given. I waited a couple of hours for the vehicle until he told me what the problem was. The estimate was the same as the dealer at a cost of $ 1,500.00, plus parts. I asked what had to be done for that cost and what parts. He told me that the Turbo had to be removed to get to the problem, a couple of hoses, that he had two great Diesel Mechanics on it, I had to leave the truck and he would call me when it was ready. I waited the following day and heard nothing from him, so I called mid afternoon and left a message. He returned the call and said the truck was ready, so I had my wife drive me to the shop. 5 minutes into the drive, the mechanic called me and said that he was finished, test drove the truck, there was no leak, and that he was going to test drive again, then call me back when it was ready. I told him that Jerry already called me and that I was on the road. When I got to the shop and got the bill I was surprised to see that the cost for parts, some hoses, included an additional $350.00 for a lift pump. Jerry did not consider calling me to informing me of the additional charge. His mechanics may be great at something, but it is not at Diesel diagnostics. At home I opened the hood to see what was done. I did not see any wrench or tool marks on the Turbo bolts indicating that the turbo had not been removed. I did see wear marks on the metal "Y" tube in front of the turbo. I should have stuck with the Dealer. read more

Hard to know how this will be long term as I have just moved from San Diego where my dad and I had a relationship with our mechanic for 40 years. I was advised by a friend that it is hard to find a good, honest mechanic in Virginia Beach. That said, my first interaction with J&J was very positive. He seems very knowledgeable, reasonable on prices, had availability and not into doing unnecessary "add-ons." We drove from Maine to Virginia for my daughter's summer internship. Friday, on the way down, the brakes were going, and by the time we got to Virginia, they were grinding and needed to be replaced. Being Memorial Day weekend, I thought for sure it would be difficult to find a business that would get us in on Saturday, as she needed her vehicle on Tuesday. J and J automotive repair contacted me within minutes of sending out inquiries through Yelp. They could get me in that morning and fix the vehicle by noon. I was surprised and thrilled at the same time. What really impressed me the most was, while in the waiting room, I was listening to conversations he was having with customers and answering their questions while working on their vehicles. It was very clear that he was a kind and patient man, and wanted the customer to know what he was doing and why, so they could feel completely satisfied. He answered all of their questions and gave additional information that would help them with their vehicle. Not being from the area, I was concerned about being taken advantage of, but this was not the case with this business. Not only did he fix the front brakes and rotors, he showed me the old pads and what they should look like. He also commented on the rear brakes and rotors being replaced recently and we're perfectly fine (which they were) . He also noticed a couple of additional things that didn't need to be taken care of right now, but wanted me to be made aware of it so that the next timeI had an oil change due, I could recommend this to my mechanic. It is with the utmost confidence that I highly recommend this business, whether you're new to the area or have been living here for years. You will feel completely confident that you received the best service available. I had taken my 2016 Jeep Wrangler in for new rotors and brake pads along with aftermarket headlights, flooflights, fender flares and a new bumper.
