Hot Rod's Diner - Huge serving

Every time we visit my cousin in Social Circle, Georgia, one stop is practically guaranteed: Hot…read moreRod's Diner. We've eaten here enough times that it feels less like a restaurant visit and more like part of the tradition. Tonight I ordered the Blue Plate Special with hamburger steak smothered in grilled onions, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, and a big bowl of Brunswick stew. My unsweet tea stayed filled thanks to Rhonda, who was serving tables while also managing the restaurant. We learned that Hot Rod's started the evening with three servers scheduled. Business was slow, so one server was sent home. Naturally, that's when things picked up. Even so, Rhonda and the remaining server kept everything moving smoothly, and we never felt neglected during our visit. The Brunswick stew was excellent and gave us an unexpected opportunity for comparison. Earlier in the day we had Brunswick stew at Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. Hot Rod's version was chunkier, with larger pieces of meat, more noticeable vegetables, and a slight kick of spice. The Fresh Air version was smoother and more finely blended. Both were excellent, but they were definitely different styles. The hamburger steak was flavorful, the green beans and collard greens tasted like proper Southern vegetables, and when the Texas Pete hit the table there was only one thing to say: "My man, Texas Pete goes on the collards." Then came the surprise ending. We learned that peach cobbler was half price today. Unfortunately, they were out. Or so we thought. A fresh cobbler was still in the oven. For the next several minutes, the suspense reached maximum peach. Finally, the cobbler emerged from the kitchen and was served à la mode. The French gave it a classy name. The South perfected the application. Warm peaches, a buttery cobbler topping, and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream that immediately melted with a purpose made for the perfect ending to the meal. It was absolutely worth the wait. Hot Rod's continues to be one of our favorite stops in Social Circle, and after another great meal, I have no doubt we'll be back again the next time we're in town. Every person we talked to was fun, funny and just a joy to hang with. Harlow was great (bartender). She concocted this olive spin on a Hugo Spritz. Wife absolutely loved it. For me the bourbon selection was great. Got to try a newly opened Old Carter. Also dabbled in the Shackleton. Figured some exploration with one of the greatest explorers. Both were great. Finally the food. Every thing we ordered was absolutely delicious. Massive truffle fries (called chips but more like logs lol), don't sleep on the Gouda Mac and cheese, farmer fresh sliced squash and my meal, the 12oz steak on a bed of Peruvian mash potato's with shiitake mushrooms rounded out with asparagus. I can not accurately describe how amazing that meal was. You gotta try it for yourself. Andrew, we will be back.

We started with their Bread plate, a nice serving of fresh bread and a good start while waiting for our meal. I ordered a Black & Tan and it was not that, this is a traditional pub pour, with guiness and bass ale, with a distinct break between the two porter on the bottom and the ale is floated across the top. There was no break in my serving and it was not a traditional B&T. After giving the concise menu a look, I opted for the Fish and chips and a side of their Gouda and mac. Fish and Chips, Haddock, whole potato wedges tartar and ketchup with a lemon wedge. The fish was prepared very well, the potatoes like home style and the mac and cheese very good, rich creamy and tasty. The Haddock was a nice large filet, breaded lightly and tender. A good meal. A lot of folks the night of our visit ordered the Fish and it is obvious its one of their signature dishes. A solid choice for a meal in my book. 4 Stars A solid meal in a comfortable location 01286

Staff were happy and welcoming, helped us take our order and had it out fresh in less than ten minutes. The food was amazing, I wasn't too sure because of the price but they make much better food than five guys for that high price. For a place as art and creativity centered as Snellville the AI generated art on the wall looks scary and out of place. Makes the place look cheap and low effort when you walk in. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite. Overall A

Recently though one of my friends mentioned LR Burger and I knew I needed to check it out. It took me a year to get there but I am so glad I took the leap and decided to try it. The first time we went I "chickened" out and got the Buffalo mother clucker sandwich which was "wowza!" So stinking good I had dreams about it which made me extra sure their burgers would be amazing. I saw the SouthPaw a double patty with blue cheese sauce tomato, & lettuce on the menu the next time and it was like pure kismet I knew that was my burger. I ordered it and what do you know it was phenomenal I mean pure bliss to partake in! There is something for everyone my very picky kiddo loved the Oklahoma and couldn't stop talking about how delish it was! Every single time I am remotely in the Monroe area (which is every day twice a day) I have to talk myself out of going to get one. So good. 10/10. My top burger in all 50 states so far. If you haven't been you must go immediately and have the burger of your life!!!

Both were very good with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The fried okra is whole -not sliced like most recipes, and it was done in a tasty batter that was not too heavy . There is a bar but we didn't try the drinks, so I can't comment on them. Service : Service is excellent. Our waitress, Sawyer, was very helpful, pleasant, and attentive. The manager checks on customers and makes sure everything is working well. Location : Very convenient location among other restaurants and a variety of stores in the busiest shopping area in Athens-near the exits from highways and the perimeter loops. Facility: Clean, cheerful, and tables are not crowded together. Multiple TVs for a variety of interests. There is lots of free parking in this strip mall. There are outdoor tables for good weather days. There was not loud music like we have endured in several other burger locations. We could have a conversation easily on this restaurant. We will be happy to return in the future. .

The steak sandwich was very flavorful and full or sirloin. Hogie roll was as perfect. The groove burger was good. The bacon and cheddar had the most flavor profile so everything else took a backseat to it. I expected more from the name sake burger. Overall, it was a good stop. We'd order the steak sandwich again for sure but try others things for the remainder.
