My yearly stop here never, ever disappoints. The same owner ~30 years and now under his son, has kept a high standard of fresh food, a sure clean environment and friendly, dedicated staff. Walking into this Roy Rogers is not like walking into any other franchise - it's still real Americana - the staff is friendly, country music is playing on the speaker, westerns on the TV monitor and everyone is speaking English; something really nice to experience again as we lose more and more of who we were. And all of this is a great appeal and draw to this place. See Americans - "Old School" can still be done.

Perfect maillard reaction on the burger (which I believe is of the "smashed" variety), excellently caramelized onions and mushrooms, as well as a decent cheese. EASILY the best fast food burger I've had in the past decade. If I had to compare the flavor, I'd say it's as if Five Guys and Smashburger collaborated to make something actually decent. Best of both worlds. Finally, the combo was PLENTY of food, and I left quite full. This place rules, I'll be back again!

"I recently visited Checkers, and I have to say, it was an amazing experience! The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of freshly cooked chicken and burgers. I tried their Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious--crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The fries were perfectly seasoned, and the overall meal left me wanting more. Also, I am the last one on planet earth for being all judgey eyes for anyone and everyone who munches on a big Mac or a Whopper at the drop of a hat... But given this was my first time having any of the fast food chain burgers (between McD, BK, Wendys, etc etc etc) in a very very long time (4+ years), I have to confess - I was Impressed! Impressed at what you may ask? The way this particular B-King was being operated and managed. I have this thing to scope out and take my time on my decision making process of choosing what my food choice would be when left at the mercy of a service area or an airport where there isn't a United or Delta Club (and god knows I cannot convince myself to be an AA member anytime soon) - much to the agony and at times, scorn of whoever I am traveling with. Still, I try to make it less snappy and as fast as I can. Anyways. I almost always skip all the fast food chains because I see the way food is being dished out - and it has nothing to do with the fact that ultimately it is junk food - so what big a difference would it make about how it is being dished out? Still, given the visuals, if I am convinced - in my head, that what is being dished out has the remotest possibility of being something over and above the junk fast food that it is perceived to be, I shall go for it. That's why I got a Crispy Chicken Sandwich and a large fries at this BK - and let me tell you, I was happy! + This was possibly one of the biggest sized BKs I have seen - as goes the kitchen, as compared to any of the ones I have seen at any of the major airports around the country. + The kitchen was more than sufficiently staffed which I was really impressed to see how organized the operations were. Typically in busy set ups like a service area or an airport, I see typical fast food joints having scenes that are analogous to a fish market. Not here. Supposedly every role was very well defined and it was working as it was supposed to + Probably the clincher for me was that it was self service to pick your own freshly packed burger / sandwich along with fries, and they kept coming like a well oiled machine. Who seemed like the manager of this BK, had parked himself behind the very warm self serve console where all burgers were being kept by the team prepping them. And I have to say my sandwich, as well as the ones that the rest in my entourage had were really warm and fresh. So no big (or negative) words about what are the contents of that crispy chicken or the big fish etc etc. All good. + What was even surprising was that they took custom orders too, and the wait for those didn't seem too long. I was almost tempted to put in a special request but then I had to tap myself and bring it all back to reality!! + Finally, the checkout person knew what was being picked at the self serve - thanks to the way they were wrapped - symbols, signs et all... True display of what fast food is all about and how it is very well executed. Very impressed indeed. Especially given that what I had didn't give me a feeling that it was junk. Then "Why not 5 stars?" you ask??? It's more of a burger thing. i am not a big sandwich / burger kinda dude. Else this place definitely deserves 5 stars. Heck, assume I gave it 5 stars :-)
