Great experience at this throwback to our youth! Pete and I wanted to introduce the baby to our childhood favorite and it did not disappoint. We ordered beef sandwiches and root beers. The baby had a chicken leg kid's meal. It was obviously fast food but it was DELICIOUS!!!! I was blown away at how clean the fixin's bar was. The service was very patient and kind with our annoying group. I think the cashier's name was Mary(?) and she was a saint. There were others that were also kind to my family and I am very grateful. All the memories of family trips to Roy's as a kid and its place atop my fast food rankings were validated as we serendipitously passed this oasis down in Toms River. Unfortunately the decor is still a throwback as well. But the freshness and quality were shocking. Beautiful NJ tomatoes and big, clean, cold chunks of iceberg, and 2 types of onions in the clean and orderly fixin's bar were so satisfying. Service was quick and friendly with an older staff that may have worked there since the 70's for all I know. Plus, creamsicle shakes just sent it over the top. As per the cashier, there's also one in Brick: the only 2 left in NJ. Go there and show them some support. Maybe we can get some more back! read more

Exceptional Roy Rogers located in Toms River next to the Dunkin Donuts and Cowan. Not sure why it's coming up here a mile or so away. Super clean, well stocked, friendly and attentive staff, fresh food, especially the fixins bar. The place is wonderfully outdated - going back to 1990s? But well kept and nostalgic. Don't change a thing owners. A great place to come to experience the great fast-food restaurant chains of the past. A true gem of Americana. I love stopping here when in the area. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed coming to this location every time I visit southern New Jersey. Unfortunately we do not have these in Connecticut anymore and these were a staple of my childhood fast food establishments. In actuality this is my favorite fast food chain. First, I had no idea brick and mortar Roy Rogers restaurants were still around. We ended up in an area of South Jersey we had not been to before because we had to pick up an item we purchased online. When we drove past the restaurant, we looked at each other and literally said at the same time, "Is that an actual Roy Rogers?" We had not been to a Roy Rogers in probably thirty years. Well, we had to check it out. We walked inside and I truly felt like I had stepped back in time, in the best way. It was Roy Rogers as I had remembered it from the 80's. Clean, same decor and complete with Fixin's Bar and 80's TV shows on the TV's! There was a steady stream of regulars eating in and one man told us the owner is the same owner since the 70's. The place was busy. The food? It was the same Roy Rogers food you remember. We enjoyed it. It was fresh, exactly what we expected in terms of taste, the staff were very friendly, and even came around to greet the customers, many by name. I was shocked at how busy it was and how most people ate in, which is just so different from how we engage with fast food now. It was a nice experience. Left feeling very uplifted at having spent an hour remembering simpler times...not a self-ordering kiosk in sight. We actually had to go back to the area the following week to pick up another order and we went again...consistent experience. Our daughter is going to be attending college out that way in September. We definitely plan to return for the food, the friendly staff and of course, the nostalgia. read more

This place honestly deserves a zero star. The food may be just fine but the workers are ABSURD. They refuse to serve to minors due to the fact there was one incident that had nothing to do with me or my friend group and when my mother called complaining because i came home with an asthma attack due to the fact it was severely hot out and i needed water because I ran out and the worker said "well why are u letting ur kid out of the house if she has asthma?!" in a very disrespectful tone. Then she proceeded to hang up the phone!!! My mother trusted roy rogers to help her child when she couldn't make it home in time to get water and when i feel like i'm gonna get an asthma attack and they failed once again and kicked me out simply just because my age and something i can't even control. To add on, the tables, bathrooms, and food center desperately NEEDS to be cleaned and I have known multiple people get sick from the uncleanliness. I hope this place can change there ways and become more welcoming and better to their community and customers. read more

If I could leave less than one star I would. The food was subpar quality in terms of taste. I used to adore Roy Rogers, but this was not the quality I remember. More to the point and certainly more disconcerting, was that after eating at this location, I came down with an awful, awful case of food poisoning. A Roy Rogers found in the wild! It's a real treat getting Roy's not in a rest area on the Turnpike. My father was dying for some roast beef and chicken, so we made the short trek up here and had a really good fast food lunch. I remember back in the 90's Roy's and Arby's both having sacks of roast beefs sandwiches for really cheap prices. It was like 5 for $5 or something. Well those days are long gone. Each sandwich was about $5 and there wasn't any selection. It was a roast beef sandwich and you had the fixins bar to go to. We ended up grabbing a couple of sandwiches and some chicken with biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy and mac & cheese. Everything was ready quickly and we packed up our car and headed home. The roast beef was just as good as I remembered. With the sauce and horseradish It gave that thing a nice kick. The chicken was good, a little too greasy for my taste, but really much better than say KFC. The potatoes were good, but obviously a mix. The mac & cheese was very good. It was a delicious lunch and a wonderful throwback to the 1980's for me. We used to have a Roy's fairly close when I was a kid and this brought back the memories. read more

Not a happy camper .. Just went to the drive through with family and ordered 51.00 of food, get home and they forgot 1/2 out order !! By the time we got home they were closed . I ALWAYS check however this time I just took bags and left. I am calling in the morning and they best refund what they forgot or give me what they forgot. I am hoping they do not give me a problem For their mistake or I will be livid. Ok follow up to my prior interview ^ I now give Roy's an A+. I called today and spoke to a really nice gentleman , no questions asked he gracefully, kindly and SO apologetically replaced what had been forgotten ! This place is just nostalgic to me. I have been going to Roys since i was a little girl living in Maryland, then Virginia, now New Jersey. When I see a Roys I have to go. I used to love getting french fried and a moosetracks milkshake. Their fries are just so darn good. I like their gold rush chicken sandwhich and their cheesesteak whenever it's available is shockingly good! But most importantly, their fried chicken is .... there are no words, it's just really good. Roy Rogers restaurants are few and far between. As a matter of fact, there are none where I live. Every time I visit the NJ shore I make a lunch stop here. The place is clean and the staff I've encountered have been friendly. The Double R Bar burgers have been good and fresh. The buns are a step above most fast food restaurants. There are some interesting side dish choices. Mac and cheese, side salads, mashed potatoes, and fresh fruit are offered in addition to the standard fries. I didn't try any deserts though. Living in Brick, I have heard rumors that Roy Rogers will be opening another restaurant in our area in the next year. Until then I will head to Pine Beach and eat the most delicious roast beef sandwiches in all of fast food land. Their burgers are really tasty and I would say the quality exceeds most offerings by the chain places. Finally their fried chicken blows KFC out of the water. The biggest problem I have with Roy Rogers is making a decision which way I will go! The roast beef sandwich usually wins. I also had breakfast once and found that too was enjoyable. One thing I must add. I have eaten in and taken out. They wrap the sandwiches in that part aluminum foil and part paper wrap. I think the food continues to cook a little so by the time I get home the meat can be dried out or well done. That is why I try to eat there if I can. The place is old school. It could be 1979-1985 in there but the place is clean as a whistle and all of my experiences with the employees have been positive. The food is pricey for fast food but well worth the extra $1 or so and the inevitable trek down Rte 9 and the traffic. Until there is one in Brick, this place is just fine! read more

The staff is completely inept. You have to check your order every time you going through the drive through for missing items and even to check to see if the lids have been placed correctly on the cup. Roy Rogers is not the cheapest of fast food restaurants so I would expect the service to be a notch above. read more

All restaurants can take notes from the way this Fast Food place is run. "They run a tight ship" my grandpa would say. The place is always clean. The employees are sharply uniformed and stay busy. There is always an adult manager present and clearly in charge. The food is the same Roy Rogers menu but so much better than the overpriced Turnpike trash where you usually find a Roy's. The food is hot and fresh and very tasty. For those that don't know, the menu is burgers and fries but with fried chicken, roast beef sandwiches, and a free fixins bar with lettuce, onions, pickles and condiments. If you have not had Roy's in a while this place will take you back. The sides are mac and cheese, baked beans, slaw etc. My only complaint is that there are no fresh veggies any where on the menu. If there were anything on the menu to help it remotely resemble a healthy meal like corn on the cob, string beans, carrots etc., I would probably eat here more often. The dining room is exceptionally clean and bright with big family size booths. We have had dinners here with in-laws including 6 adults and 2 kids (My FIL is a fried chicken connoisseur). This place is a stand out when your wallet or your cravings bring you down to this level of indulgence. My wife gave herself a night off and brought this home tonight which sparked this review. It was excellent again. Next time we will do salad and steam some veggies and not feel guilty one bit. read more
