After church on Sunday, we decided to eat at Cheddar's. Upon walking in to the restaurant, it looked busy. We wrote our names on the list & to both of our surprise it was a 15-20 minute wait. The wait took 17 minutes, which is fair. Our waitress' name is Rachael & she took our drink orders and when we were ready she took our food order. She even did a special order for the child. SWEET HEAT CHICKEN & SHRIMP: This plate was delicious, however the ginger in the rice was too over powering. The chicken, & shrimp had great flavor. The salad had a great dressing. CHICKEN POT PIE (came with a house salad): The salad came out first followed by the Chicken Pot Pie. The Chicken Pot Pie had great portion of the carrots, peas, chicken & filling. However, it wasn't a true pie because it wasn't lined on the bottom with crust. GRILLED CHICKEN KIDS MEAL: This was a special request by the kiddo, this came with rice & fries. I would definitely come back and recommend this place. I wanted to give Rachael a shout out because when another table mentioned that their sprite tasted funny she asked us if ours did. Upon arrival two hostesses were giggling and didn't noticed my arrival, greet me, or ask if I needed a table. As I approach the podium they just looked at me and still said nothing. A "welcome to Cheddars" would have been nice or a "hello" or even a "how many" but they said nothing. So tell me, what is it exactly you do here? I finally held up my fingers and loudly said two. They looked at me as if they dreaded having to seat me. This is especially a pet peeve of mine therefore I have to Yelp about it. I later found out Sawyer, Brooklyn, and Kylie are the hostesses working this evening. I assure you they are not getting, "hostess with the mostest" in my book. In a perfect scenario they would fit nicely in a film we're all familiar with, Mean Girls. Their snootiness meshes quite well. Okay, rant over! My Mom and I loved this place! We ate here in Amarillo, Texas, and even the customers were sweet. A man upon entering offered to hold our door and ended up paying our tab! Amazingly big hearts there. They give you sweet bread right off the bat that was delicious, I couldn't eat enough of it! Our chicken salad wraps were yummy and so much food we needed to-go boxes. August 22nd we were there for my husband's birthday turned 54 we had a party of 16 we arrived early to let them know. They saddest at a table and two booths they had tables that they could have pulled together but they didn't. But that wasn't the bad part of it all they saddest at windows that leaked We got wet. The manager came over and said he knew about the problem but still sad people there. Here it is we're a party of 16 and he didn't care and he said it's all at a different area. We haven't been back in this area for a while so my wife insisted that we eat at this place though it seems to me the equivalence of Chili's or the likes. The wait was short. The place was pretty busy for a Saturday Night so it is understandable that service was sub par. Our waiter was decent enough. He saw him a few times as the food was served by other people. We had to flag down other waiters to get refills on our drinks. The food was average, i.e. bland and lukewarm. We asked the onion rings to come before dinner but that didn't happen. Roach was in the bathroom I have worked in customer service for a long time and one roach means MANY of them. It also means that the place is FILTHY. I don't like being a malcontent but this visit to Cheddars left much to be desired. I actually like Cheddars. I have been to the one in Chandler Arizona several times and always had a good experience. I even tell other people how good it is. Since we don't have any Cheddar's in San Diego where I live I decided to have dinner at this one while I was in town. The first thing that hit me was the smell. It wasn't strong but there was a light odor that is probably sort of typical of a chain restaurant, a mixture of cleaning supplies, oil, and miscellaneous food. It wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't call it aromatic. Some restaurants smell absolutely wonderful as soon as you walk in. This didn't. I noticed a definite effort to upsell. It's not like we don't know what's happening. The waitress was cheerful and did a good job but kept asking me if I wanted add-ons and didn't mention that they would cost extra unless I asked. She suggested a few alcoholic drinks but I just don't drink that early in the day. I mentioned that I had a coupon for a free chips and queso for signing up for their email list. It didn't take too long for the chips to arrive. I was shocked at how large the order was. I was pretty hungry and started munching on them and probably ate way too many before my meal came. I thought the salsa was pretty good. It didn't taste like it came out of a bottle although it obviously used canned tomatoes. It was as good as anything similar I could have made it home. The chips weren't as good as your average Mexican restaurant but you wouldn't expect them to be. The queso wasn't bad when it was hot but was kind of a rubbery gloppy mess after it cooled off. I thought my food was taking a long time, especially when the 4 people at the next table had their food brought to them even though they arrived after I did. I don't know if they were holding off because they saw I was still eating chips or not but I've had restaurants that brought me my main course while I was still eating my salad. I ordered my steak medium rare. The girl asked me to cut into it to make sure it was okay. I cut all the way through to the middle to get a good idea and told her it wasn't as pink as I like it but it would be okay. I'm not one to send food back, especially if I think there's any chance it will be thrown out. I hate the thought of food being wasted. About the only time I've ever sent food back in fact is if it was soup that was served to me room temperature when it was supposed to be hot so they could heat it up. The steak was okay but not nearly as good as what I've gotten in Arizona. It was definitely cooked medium more than medium rare. It lacked that wonderful grilled flavor The broccoli was pretty soft compared to most restaurants who just lightly steam it but I could live with that for one night. I can't remember the last time I ordered a baked potato but I did tonight and was sorry. The potato itself would have been fine. I cut it in half so I could spread the butter around but the butter looked questionable. I tasted it and I'm pretty sure it was just margarine. How can you enjoy a baked potato if it's not real butter? That to me is sort of unforgiveable. Not only that, but the potato wasn't hot enough to melt the margarine so about half of it just sat on top in its solid state. They were also chintzy with the sour cream. Sour cream is what makes the baked potato unless you're on a diet. The waitress had asked me if I wanted bacon bits on it and I started to say yes but hesitated and asked her if that was included. She said she thought it was about 99¢ more so I said I thought I'd pass. I hate to think what my meal would have cost if I hadn't asked or read how much extras were. The whole reason I ordered the $10 steak instead of a more expensive one was I'm trying to watch my budget while I travel. Not to be cheap, just not to be frivolous. She also asked if I wanted any A1 sauce and I said thank you, yes. Instead of bringing a bottle like a normal restaurant does she brought one of those little taco sauce containers full of A1 sauce. To be honest they probably lost money on that because I don't use that much A1 sauce. I don't want it to overpower the flavor of the meat. I just like a little. I probably only used a fourth of what she gave me although I did pour a little over the leftovers at the end. So if they didn't bring the bottle because they wanted to limit how much the customer uses then they guessed wrong on me. I had hoped to have room for one of their little $1.50 mini desserts which would have been perfect but I ate so many chips and queso that I just didn't have any room. When I go back to this one? Wait staff does not wear their masks 100% of time when serving guests and restaurant is not very clean. If you are looking for a clean and safe place to dine in; this is not the place stop. I ordered a grilled chicken wrap and commented to replace the chicken with white fish. That is the cheapest fish they have. There is not an option to pay extra or replace via online ordering. I've ordered this before at other Cheddars Franchises, first time it was an issue. The staff was polite and handled the situation best as they could. I just will not return to this location. 100PM April 26, 2018: server Joanna; ordered 1/2 rack baby back ribs, come with fries and slaw, but wife was able to change to mashed taters and green beans. Joanna was efficient, likeable and funny. We tried this restaurant based on the reviews, & I have mixed emotions. It was a crowded Saturday night around 6 & there was only a 10 min wait. Luckily we found a spot at the bar, which allowed my 17 year old to sit & we had no wait time. Ordered two drinks from Brittany prior to seating & was disappointed in her hospitality. 20%tip on the drinks & then sat down to order. After my first margarita, I requested a little less sweet & sour as it was too tart for me, I asked her to cut it with a little water. I received my "margarita" with warm water a shot of tequila & a sliver of lime.... nothing else. The food came & was delicious..... generous portions at a great price. After we got our tab, we still hadn't received ONE smile from our bartender/ server, or asked how our dinner was. Needless to say, her second tip was well below our normal 25-30% to reflect. The other bartender Brianna seemed much more personable & if I'm ever passing through Amarillo again, I will definitely ask for her. Maybe Brittany was just having a bad day. Amarillo introduced me to Cheddars which is apparently a sizeable Southwestern chain and well-respected brand name. Their "angle" is so obvious that it appears as an almost trivial differentiator between family restaurant chains. Cheddars cooks "from scratch," in-house and with fresh ingredients. Certainly Cheddars doesn't own any exclusive rights to scratch cooking, but their food is noticeably better because of it. Large portions of quality food, each dish prepared with care and attention, have made me a fan. Menu selections are a bit limited, although all of the common bases are covered, and pricing is reasonable. In particular, their Chicken Fried Chicken (two large lightly breaded and fried breasts, chicken gravy, Texas toast, mashed potatoes and seasoned green beans) and oversized bacon cheeseburger became particular favorites. Dining companions have sampled most of the menu, with nothing but complements heard on at least five visits. There's nothing fancy or over-embellished here, just very tasty food of the type described as "down-home," before this label became a misused cliché. One anomaly observed is that most Cheddars visits have brought service from both a "regular" waiter/waitress and a trainee. Perhaps the regular is instructed to take a step back, but the trainee is invariably more friendly and eager to serve. Outgoing and efficient service will never be a complaint in my book! Food has always been cooked and served exactly as ordered, and always with a smile and request to assist further. I have but one question of any Cheddars exec who might come upon this review . . . how quickly can you open a location in Northeastern New Jersey! read more

Good food. Good prices. Inattentive staff. This place appears to have bad front-of-house management. There are plenty of servers and busboys, but it appears that they were not seating all the tables at the same speed and that our server had a much larger section than the other servers. Perhaps she was supposed to be a veteran server able to handle it, but I had to get up after 20 minutes to see if our order had been spaced, then we sat another 10 minutes with empty drinks (both our tea glasses and bar drinks), before the order came out. She could have sold us another round. Meanwhile, the less "veteran" servers with small sections stood near the kitchen's alley or ran food because they were more than capable of handling their few tables. So feel free to try this place, but you might want to ask for a server that has a small section and avoid one being handled by an incompetent veteran. Honestly, we had very slow service the first time we came too, but that time the issue was that the bar was backed up so that we got bar drinks AFTER being served our main course. This happens in poorly run restaurants. The front of house management gets friendly with the servers they've known for a while and they start giving them huge sections or letting them run the bar with too few bartenders because they are friends. It means more tips for these long-term employees, but bad service for customers unfortunate enough to get seated in their sections or order bar drinks when the bartender has a full bar. If the general manager of this reads this, you need to start watching your FOH manager's policies for sections and start staffing enough bartenders to handle a rush and a full bar. read more

Good thing Yelp lets us update our ratings! A couple of months ago my friend and I went here. Our waitress was rude and dismissive. When no sides came with our meal (as described in the menu) she blamed us. She said we should have specified what sides we wanted. So I guess the customer is always wrong. She had attitude the whole time as if we were inconveniencing her. I emailed the manager so that he'd be aware of the service. As a former customer service manager I know I'd like to hear of bad service stories so I can fix the problem. The manager emailed back & apologized. He said "it isn't about placing blame." Is that his way of siding with his employee? Anyway, he promised to send me certificates to eat there again "on him". Well, I am still waiting to get those. Seriously?! It is a frustration to me and I don't want others to pay for horrible service. I'd go to a fast food place and still get better service! read more

After traveling 8 hours feom colorado back to Dallas Texas this evening we were excited to see a Cheddar's right next to our exit home. We pulled in & were seated quickly. That's about where the efficiency & service stopped. We are traveling with 2 young children, & I have worked in the service industry for 15 years, I know what a daunting task it can be to wait on a family with children. That's why we placed our order quickly & even mentioned we had been traveling & were ready to order when the drink order was taken. We ordered our drinks, appetizer, & entrees within 7 min of one another with Devin, our server, & our waiter seemed very efficient, even bringing out refills without being told. Our appetizer came out fairly quickly although the queso seemed to have been reheated, but we were so hungry we decoured it. Our waiter returned to the table to see how we were & assured us our food was "coming up" At that point, the table that had come in 15 min prior to our arrival got their entrees, we waited. Then the table that came in 20 mun after us were served their main courses. We also watched 4 to-go orders be brought out & bagged while we STILL waited for our food. My husband even mentioned he wanted to leave. I suppose Devin finally realized we'd been skipped & hurriedly scampered back to rhe kitchen reemerging & again twllinf us our food was "on rhe way" He apologized & disappeared for 15 more minutes. I saw a woman who seemed to be a manager & waved her over to the table where I told her what wqs going on. She quickly went back to the kitchen & came back to tell us our food was "up" & that she'd like to get us a dessert. I told her I'd rather have our entrees first instead of a calorie filled dessert, & she stated shed comp a kids meal. I told her that was fine & she disappeared for another 20 minutes. Devin refused to revisit our table, & I had to get up & walk towards the kitchen & ask another server to get the manager for me again. She came out & said "oh yeah, its coming out now." I reminded her she had told me that 20 min prior & her only response was. "Yes well here it comes now." I literally followed our food back to the table & watch 2 servers, not Devin, serve our food & walked away. My husband cut into what was ordered as a med rare steak that was so well done it looked like beef jerky. He couldn't even cut into it. I called the manager back over & showed herbthe steak. I asked if the waiter had rung it up as a well steak & then discovered what the hold up was. Devin had foegotten to drop our ticket & instead waited 45 min to put our ticket through to the kitchen, thus putting OUR order behind pretty much everyone else who walked in behind us in the restaurant. I talked to the manager again & asked her id he had forgotten & told her I'd been in the service industry for 15 years & that I can look at a ticket & quickly realize if the ball had been dropped when forgetting to put in a ticket. She agreed with me & profusely apologized for his error & did twll us she'd comp the rest of the ticket. She even offered to make my husband another steak but at this point we were already 2 hours in & pressed for time now, so we asked for the ticket. 10 min later, Devin emerged, with a check. I asked if it had been comped & he nodded sort of distant & uneffected. I couldn't help it & I flat out asked him if he had forgotten the ticket. His exact words verbatim were: "Well, uh, kinda" I told him I saw the punches on the initial start of the ticket to when the entree was ordered & confronted him & told him I knew he had forgotten to place our order when he placed the appetizer. He just stiod there staring at me. He said, "well the kitchen..." I cut him off & told him I knew he forgot us & told him that was all. We let the kids eat, quickly got our things together & gladly left. As we were leaving mr. Devin & another server snickered & talked/stared at us as we left. Final comment & suggestion. 1. Teach your servers to take responsibility for their mistake. ( we all make them ) 2. Get Devin OFF the busy Saturday night schedule 3. Re educate your servers on what steak cook/temps are ( rare/med rare/med/med well/well ) 4. Let your servers know how absolutely TACKY it is to cackle about guests as they are leaving 5. Do whatever it takes to make it right before they walk out with bellies empty & write a long YELP review In closing, don't eat here if you expect to get quality service or if you want a steak cooked correctly. Despite the reviews, we decided to give this restaurant a try... I had the 12oz. Ribeye Steak and it was tender, seasoned and prepared perfectly. For sides, I had the red beans & rice and the brocoli cheddar casserole. Delish! My BF had the fried catfish with French fries and coleslaw. Perfectly fried and not greasy. He kept commenting on how good the food was which is rare for him. Joseph our server was attentive and great overall. Now the "mustard"... Some of the staff we're huddled in a walk way chatting while the restaurant was completely packed. We tried to pass through and had to excuse ourselves only to get a look as if we were a bother. Went here on a Sunday as the after-church crowd was flooding in. Amarillo is definitely a place that serves hearty food in large portions and this place is just that. We ordered the vegetable plate that consisted of four of their veggie sides. We were impressed with most of them but the real stars of the show were the croissants with delicious glaze as well as the customer service. Our server was patient and super accommodating. We had a large party and he did a great job with everything as we were in a hurry to catch our flight out of town! We were passing through Amarillo on a road trip from Chicago to Vegas. We are not familiar with Cheddars (there are none in Chicago, nor Vegas-I travel a lot but have never noticed them) and selected it hastily because we were tired, and wanted to eat quickly and get to our hotel to sleep. We were incredibly surprised by our experience - but we had low to no expectations. We walked right in -- at 8:30 pm on a Tuesday. Seated at a middle table. This is where the restaurant lost a star. The next table was finishing their meal and their server was talking quite loudly to them about cooking or recipes for about 10 minutes while we perusing our menu. I agree with another reviewer-in hindsight, the menus seemed a bit grimey but, we always wash our hand with sanitizer or restroom .after handling menus. Our table was clean. Our server was attentive, friendly and tried to help given our first time. We ordered loaded potato soup (3.99), chicken pot pie which came with salad (6.99) and croissant, and two salmons, one blackened and one with bourbon glaze (9.99). Salmon came two sides and served on a bed of rice. The sides selected were steamed broccoli and loaded baked potato. All was incredibly good and fresh tasting. My only complaint was my soup was not piping hot which I prefer, regardless of temperature outside. I'm guessing it sat in its bowl in the kitchen while the other 3 meals were getting finished up. I should have told the server but didn't feel like it. The prices were unbelievably reasonable and a good value. Not sure, maybe we have been living in Chicago/Vegas too long but for four of us and lots of food -- $38+ including tax/tip. read more

Great location just off I-40 next to Olive Garden and Rudy's. We visited on a Sunday evening around six and our party of 4 adults and 3 kids were seated quickly. Our server was good the whole time by double checking he had our orders right and making sure our cups we full. Food-I had the chicken Dijon with mushrooms which was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were good but the broccoli and cheese casserole was a little dry. The serving looked as it probably off the edge of a pan but it still tasted alright. Most of our table was pleased except the person who ordered the Cajun pasta, where they wished it had a little more meat. A child's hamburger looked a little more pink than I would of liked. But other that those issues the food was fine. Overall the experience was good but not one I could rate higher than 3 stars. read more

I've ate at this Cheddars since the day the doors opened, and the last few months have been the worst I've seen this place. The bathroom was nasty and smelled awful, every glass that was on our table and tables near use looked like they haven't been washed in months, the seats were covered with food and greasy hand prints, the window seals had food and trash on them, and we had to keep asking for items because they weren't brought to our table the first time. And the food wasn't fresh. The queso was super clumpy and luke warm. I talked to the manager and there didn't seem to be a big concern about what the place looked like.
