I lived in Johnson City when Cheddar's first opened here, and at the time it was both a welcome addition and a frequent hangout. That's been more than a few years ago, and I've moved several times since then, but recently my family and I dropped in here to pick up some dinner. My, how things have changed, and not for the better. I remember how crowded this place would often get for dinner hours, especially on a weekend, so the lack of a queue should have been a sign that the restaurant has slipped in quality. But getting seated quickly was just about the only thing that went well with this visit. Service? Initially slow to get our orders, slow to get our food, then we found that one portion of the order was wrong. The waitress made no verbal offer to correct the order, and only when she presented the check did she mention that it had been removed from the bill. Making things worse, I went several minutes during the meal with an empty glass because she just stopped checking on us. I flagged down another staff member just to get a refill, and even after that things didn't move quickly. I wasn't very impressed with the food either, with perhaps the biggest disappointment being the country fried steak. By weight I'm certain there was more breading than meat, and neither had much flavor nor did the small dollop of gravy atop it. Had it not been for the green beans, nothing on the plate would have tasted much different than my napkin. Yes, I know Cheddar's is a chain restaurant much akin to Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday, and the like. But the quality of the experience and the food was reasonable or better in the past. Maybe this was just a bad night for Cheddar's, and at other times it still holds its own. But we almost certainly won't be back to find out. read more

Hard to write a detailed review for a common chain restaurant but everything met expectations. Food was well portioned and service was polite. Food for table of 5 came out super quick and with only one small error. Food was really bad, not up to Cheddars normal standards. Food cooked to long, dry, tasteless. Won't be going back.

Over the years, the food here has gotten to be very small portions. Also after we sat down it took the waitress about 15 minutes just to come over to see what we want to drink after the drink order we ordered our salads and entrée that took about 15 minutes just to get the salads there and about five minutes later the entrée came. The service at cheddars has gotten very bad. I don't believe I will go back there again. read more

This place is definitely family friendly and will give you a southern feel. The ambience gives you a classy feel as well as a casual. People dress up and people dress down. They have a lot of food that's considered comfort food. My complaint thought is I have been at this location a couple of times and it is a hit or miss. I normally enjoyed getting the chicken Alfredo meal, if prepared correctly it is delicious! Unfortunately this location in Johnson city has not perfected the skill to make it yet. But I like the. As I walked in, the hostess shoulder checked my FIL right in the arm. She saw him coming (was standing still) and as soon as he started to walk, she walked right into him. We had a party of 7 and we're literally seated at a booth. MANY table available, but nooo. We sit at one table, touching elbow to elbow... Went to order appetizers, waiter literally walks away mid order. Didn't check back in much. We had to ask for more croissants. On top of it all, we went to celebrate a birthday. My steak was literally raw and I'm pregnant. (Owner DID fix that mistake.) We asked for to go boxes, and literally got FOUR tiny boxes for seven people... Will I be back? So the pros: waitress was awesome and amazing! Shout out to Sarah M!!! They practice social distancing of tables and require mask wearing, seems like all staff are very nice. The CONS: and there are MANTY HUNTY. This restaurant reminds why I DO NOT EAT AT CHAINS. First the floor was somewhat ill kept with straw trash & clear straw holders. The bathroom trash was overflowing but was clean. The door locks on the bathroom stalls were loose and one just didn't slide at all. My daughter said the table wasn't clean but didn't tell me as my first stop was the bathroom. Drinks were good and Sarah kept our glasses full. She was a complete gem. Pretty too with a great personality. The food was ridiculous to say the least. The skein was not taken off the back of the ribs to allow cutting. Ribs were tough and flavorless. The so called rub must've gotten rubbed on another meat. To add insult to injury there were FRIES in my coleslaw. My granddaughter got the ribs too and bah boo; we both left with full plates & empty stomachs. According to the other grands, the burger & chicken tenders were pretty good. Hey frying ain't lying anytimey! If you want scratch prices for fast food stop in. If you want good food at scratch prices, keep it moving! Dis ain't da place bay bay! I've been to many Cheddar's in a few states. I had not eaten all day, was craving the "Chicken Fried Chicken". First, the person at the door wanted to seat me in the bar (why, because I was alone?), did not even ask me. I said I didn't want to be in the bar so she took me to the very back. The waitress came, took my bar order and my meal order. Then brought me a yummy croissant, that is where the good ended. She did bring my bar drink, but someone else brought my food to me. I knew right away there was some issues, the chicken looked good, but the gravy on it was not enough to even cover the chicken and it had a "skin" on it.........and yes, it was cold. Then my steamed broccoli was also cold and mushy. But the worst was my loaded baked potato. It OBVIOUSLY was leftover from the lunch crowd (I was there about 3:30 or so). You can always tell an old, been in the oven too long baked potato, the inside is turning brown and it tastes HORRIBLE.....as this one did. I kept waiting for my waitress to come so I could ask for another potato, and although she was rushing by a couple of times, never gave me a second look, just ignored me. I ate the meal, mostly, because I was hungry.....but NOT because it was good. The potato was disgusting. Then no one asked if I wanted dessert, or my drink refilled or another bar drink, NOTHING. No one even said anything about "the bill"........I finally looked it up on their little "machine" at the table. Made comments about how horrible it all was and did not leave much of a tip, I DO NOT TIP for people just "showing up", and this wait staff, cook and management OBVIOUSLY need some serious coaching to be on the same level as most Cheddar's......because they are BAD NEWS as they are, I won't be back......not to that one, EVER. read more

BEWARE!!! DO NOT EAT HERE EVER!!! I have attached a photo of the meatloaf they gave to us during a take out order. The green beans were over cooked and the top sirloin steak was round steak. I paid cash and they refuse to give cash back stating they could not and they would have to give me a gift card. Now, why would I want a gift card to each more bad food. They provided the corporate office phone number 888 642 7336 after Mike the mgr contacted his general mgr Tamara Dergenson (?) not sure of spelling and said they cannot let any cash come out of the restaurant once it has been taken in... what!!!? This place is really neat. Best part about it is walking up to it. It smells absolutely incredible! Seriously, that's the best part. Inside is divided up into several dining areas. All are really nicely done. Seems like they always have like 1000 people working there. Everywhere you look there's a staff member, so it's really hard to steal the condiments or silverware here, let alone tables and chairs. Food has always been good for me here. Every time I go I try something different and it's never disappointed. It's not the kind of food that makes you melt into a puddle of happy liquid... but what they do they do right. Prices are amazing especially if you get the lunch specials/combos. $8.99 if I recall correctly. Always hard for me to remember cause my beer cost normally outweighs my food. Host/hostess and servers are always friendly and helpful. If you're ever in the mood for the amazing smell of a busy kitchen, you can always just hang out in the parking lot and be in heaven. Where do I start, first off our server took forever to get anything done. We were a group of 6 and out of 6 plates, only 2 were correct. Steaks that we ordered medium rare was beyond well done, and none of our sides were right. When we let the server know it took 30 minutes to get the correct sides out which by then everyone was over it and done and just wanted to pay and leave. A $150 bill for food we didn't even eat. I've been to multiple Cheddars and always loved it but we definitely won't be back to this one. read more

When I have to wear a mask to be seated at a table, but there are bits of food on the table, napkin on the floor under it and the "Ziosk" menu screen is filthy, I have a hard time believing the area was sanitized for my protection. The waitress begrudgingly rewired it still allowing a couple bits of food to remain. Add to that the appetizer plates came to the table wet, one with a bit of food still on it, we should've left then. But also a mix drink that even my husband could tell was not what I ordered (even though the waitress claimed to have watched it being poured) and severely overcooked broccoli that was COLD in places, not just not hot, but cold, I assure you, I will not be back. read more

My dinner was perfect. My spouse did not like his dinner and did not finish it. Our waitress was perfect and took care of everything we needed. We ate here for an early dinner on 07-21-23. The hostess seated us at a booth. I felt something greasy on my foot. I looked down and there was tons of corn and some other food all over my sandals and under the booth. I told the hostess that we needed to be moved and told her how nasty under the booth was. She moved us and never uttered the first word. We looked around and there was food on the floor all over the restaurant. It was absolutely filthy. We talked about going somewhere else, but stayed. We were hungry and were afraid other restaurants were probably getting full. We both got the Dijon Chicken. It was immediately brought out. My broccoli casserole was completely cold. I only took one bite of it. We both ate one piece of chicken and left our sides. We mentioned how dirty the floor was to a male employee (there were 5 others standing around talking), as we were leaving. He asked where, and we told him to look around. There was food everywhere. He just said okay. We called and spoke with the manager and she apologized. She asked if she could send a gift card. We said no. We were not looking for anything free. I made it to Walgreens and threw up twice. My stomach had sharp pains and cramps. My husband started getting sick about an hour later. He vomited many, many times that night. No need to go on with other symptoms we suffered from. If the kitchen was as unclean and unsanitary as the rest of the restaurant, who knows what all made us so sick. We eat at the Cheddar's in Knoxville and Cookeville frequently and have had never been disappointed. read more
