Bob Evans is m always a good "safe" choice. The food is good, the service is friendly and the setting is comfortable and familiar.

I love this restaurant. It's like stepping into a time capsule. The southern diner-like atmosphere is so charming, and it's so QUIET. You do not hear this kind of silence in restaurants most of the time now, but after a busy day in shopping centers blaring music all day, it was so refreshing. The staff were amazing. They seemed a little shorthanded, but they handled everything with a cheery, laid-back attitude that made me feel at ease. Felt like a fun place to work based on the attitude of the workers alone. I had the slow-roasted turkey breast with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, glazed baby carrots, and cranberry on the side. Every item was delectable. So flavorful and comforting. And the rolls and butter served with it are among the best bread you'll get at any restaurant. This restaurant is pretty far from me. There used to be one in Bristol, VA, but it closed years ago. I make it a point to come here around my birthday, and I'd come here a lot more often if I could! I'd love to have the opportunity to try other items on the menu and just support an amazing chain. My only complain about my visit was that there was a bit of an odor of some food that I just personally didn't like. I don't know if it was broccoli or fried shrimp. I'm not sure if it was in the kitchen or wafting from the plates on the table behind us that were not removed during the entirety of our visit. But I'm not taking off a star for it. I could've just asked to sit somewhere else and it probably would've been fine. I am overall thrilled with my visit, and I cannot recommend this place enough. It was even better than when I came last year. It has never tasted so good. And the price wasn't bad, either! I am once again begging y'all to come to Abingdon or Bristol or something. After Cracker Barrel's recent fumbles (and not a lot of real competition), the old folks (and there are many) and nostalgia-lovers (like me) need a quiet place like this to meet for breakfast and enjoy church dinners. I cannot imagine anything but success (and I guarantee they'll get a lot of business and free advertising from me!!) so please consider coming our way! Every chain is as good or as bad as their local staff. Regularly make this a stop with a group of men I meet for breakfast on Saturdays. Always great wait staff and liking some of the new menu items. Recommend the Protein bowl with some runny eggs over sweet potatoes, spinach, mushrooms, caramelized onion and a ton of other flavor adding ingredients. I've been to this particular Bob Evan's in the past and we made a point to come back (not just because we're staying in Johnson City) but there aren't any Bob Evan's restaurants near where we currently live. It's typical fare for BE but if you're a biscuits and gravy aficionado, then you'll get where I'm coming from. I don't come here for anything else but the breakfast, no matter the time of day. "Bob Evans" is the corporation which owns the Cracker Barrel brand, but the Bob Evans name is not used in any of the consumer marketing. ------------------------ I never ate at this chain before, but tonight it was the only thing near my hotel. Hard to believe how full of people it is. The food is awful and they cheat you on quality/quantity wherever they can, just as any big corporation does. I had the steak and breaded shrimp combo, and the "breaded" shrimp is at least 80% batter, maybe 20% shrimp. They even hide a big round "hush puppy," with no shrimp at all, in the bottom of the shrimp bowl, as a kind of bra-stuffer to visually fool you. The steak tasted the way I'd imagine lab-grown meat tasting. A cheap-o cut from a feed lot cow, cooked on a flat, hot surface rather than grilled. Burger King could cook you a tastier piece of beef. I can't imagine how many billions this chain rakes in from its pedestrian Red State clientele. One thing I know: it won't see any more of my money. read more

We ordered a pre-cooked holiday feast for Thanksgiving. From start to finish, the experience was wonderful! The pick up experience was easy. All of the food was labeled with specific instructions for the best way to reheat. It was delicious! The portions were perfect. We ordered a meal for 6-8, all five of us had plenty of food and there was enough to send a very full plate of leftovers back with my grandfather. Justin and his team do an excellent job! read more

My wife and I ate there a couple weeks ago. The waitress was great but the Cod Fish Fry was terrible. The cook must have never prepared Cod Fish nuggets before. Three little pieces 2 or 3 inches long taken out of a freezer and over fried. The French fries were dried up. Slaw was the only thing we would not have thrown out. Killer prices on drinks, over $3.50 each. Never go there again. read more

Back in 1995-2005 I was worked for Bob Evans in one capacity or another clear up to Assistant Manager. I even worked in Pigeon Forge Tn, one of the busiest and highest grossing restaurants they had. I also worked when there were secret shoppers. I haven't been to a Bob Evans in 5 years. I really missed the good food, great service, friendly staff. Well, let me tell you, I didn't get it here. It was the worst service, very inattentive server, cold and horrible food and we waited 45 minutes to get it. Corporate will hear about this business. I met Mr Bob Evans years ago. He really cared. We had delivery on a cold rainy night. I had the turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potato's and carrots. Also banana nut bread. That was a nice addition to choice of rolls. I wanted to love everything but I couldn't eat the stuffing it was way over salted. My husband had the sirloin and shrimp. 6 oz steak and 3 fried shrimp with loaded mashed potato's. She said the server was on her way to our table to apologize for never putting our order in. That is a lie, we passed by her on the way out and she asked if we were leaving. She was not on her way to our table. That simply is not true. The manager was not concerned that we left. We are now at Cracker Barrel, where we should have been from the beginning. No wonder Bob Evans restaurants have had to close so many locations. I think they were bought by Post Holdings. Nothing has improved since the buy out. Bad service and very poor management. Had an absolutely wonderful experience. First time eating at a Bob Evans. Waitress was extremely accommodating in any requests for modifications to any entrees. Food was hot and delicious. Eggs always cooked to order - most places in JC just do scrambled. Freshly sliced fruit. French toast was yummy. Sausage patties have almost a ground beef texture. Very good. Reasonable pricing. Do yourself a favor and don't stop. Plates need to be washed. Food needs to be made from fresh ingredients not boxes. My son ordered the steak and fried shrimp. Don't ask how you would like your steak cooked if it is just going to come out so over done that you can't eat it anyway. Mashed potatoes - Instant and horrible. I ordered bacon, eggs, and French toast with a side of rye toast (to dunk in my over easy eggs). The rye toast finally came out 10 min later after the eggs were cold and the toast had some kind of fake butter on it that was horrible but I think it has its place to shine my work boots. My daughter order soup. Last I know soup is a liquid not a solid. If you don't understand, go here & order the soup. I usually don't leave bad reviews but this place was sickening. Don't know why I haven't visited them sooner. I pass by them all the time and always assumed they were some type of fast food joint. They are not. They are like a better version of Denny's, or a bit like Marie Calenders. Great choices of comfort food (turkey, meatloaf, etc). Looking at their menu appears they may be an awesome spot for breakfast. I myself had the pot roast hash and it was sooooo good. It looked absolutely nothing like the picture on the menu, but I was super happy with it regardless haha. Their drinks are served in super cute Mason jar type glasses. Orange juice tastes like fresh squeezed, though not sure if it were or not. French fries were really good as well. Barely seasoned and right amount of crispiness. Their jalapeños are the good crunchy and hot kind. Bread/rolls are baked fresh. Clean place and the staff their are all so friendly and attentive. And they all spoke with a soft calming tone. Young lady that waited on us was awesome!!! (She's what bumped my review up to 5 stars). Food came out really fast too! Prices are awesome. I can see myself coming here many more times. read more

No one greeted us and we finally sat. The restaurant smelled, they need new carpets or floors. Took a long time to get our food. Food was just ok. The person we paid our check to was wiping his nose with a Kleenex or napkin. Overall it was not a good experience. I should only give them one star but maybe they were having a bad day. Food and service was pretty good. Was there for breakfast about 9:30/10:00, there was about a dozen to 15 more diners in the dining room while we were and at least a half dozen employees. This was the most quiet dining room I have ever seen with the exception of a single waitress (who was not working my section) who all she talked about every minute she was speaking to her tables was her rent/new rental and the financial struggle it was going to be, etc etc etc for the entire 35-45 time I was in the dining room her rental woes was discussed. With who I don't know because she was the only one who could be heard chattering on and on. I thought I try Bob Evans as it's been forever since I visited. I came in at 9:30 am and for sure they were busy. I stood for five minutes waiting for a host to greet me and finally some man greeted me without a name badge to signify he worked here and asked "what do I want". I asked if I sit at the bar if I needed a menu? He acted like he was not sure. And acted as if he was not enjoying his role at Bob Evans. Finally with this tough decision behind us I get seated and with minutes I ordered and had my breakfast ready. My waitress Bree was awesome! Great attention to detail and service. Food was ok. Perhaps not as good as what I remembered from previous visits. But, good and nothing was out of order. I sat at the bar. So, I could see the kitchen and back of house practices. Out of the 4 line cooks only one was wearing food safe gloves. Two had beards without beard netting. All of which is required at any food service establishment. I'll probably be back someday. Food was awesome, service was not. Our waitress, Michelle, walked past us, TWICE before taking our drink order. She then delivered the drinks. Instead of asking if we were ready, walked away. She one again walked past us, not once, but three times before stopping to see if we were ready to order. After we ordered, she brought us our bread, which was nice, but she left our food sitting in the window for almost ten minutes before bringing it to us. We normally do "Starbucks-Sundays" but wanted to try this place out & I'm glad we did. Their blueberry crepes are mouthwatering & it's a "must" to try. Servers are always attentive, cooks are always consistent & the customer is always treated well On a personal note, the staff is always friendly to each other which creates a pleasant dining experience.
