My filet with blue cheese butter...it was perfect.
    Michael W.

A very nice experience but not perfect. We came to celebrate 26th Anniversary and we were told this was the place to come in Kingsport. We started with two half-appetizers: Sweet Tamale Cakes (they were delicious) and Onion Rings (these were also delicious). The Chopped Salad was very good. The steaks were excellent (they were as good as any I've had). The blue cheese butter was superb! Where things went "off" was as we were eating our appetizers our salads arrived. So now we had appetizers and salads, we were about half-way into our salads and our steaks arrived. The "pace" of the food was way too fast. We asked our server about it and she apologized and noted that appetizers were a little late coming out but everything else came out on time. The courses felt disjointed. As I said , we had the impression this was an "upscale" place; not coat and tie but business casual. The attire of many in the restaurant was very casual: t-shirts, shorts, etc.

Came here for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Our anniversary fell on a Wednesday yet it was very busy here tonight. We had reservations but was seated in a booth back by the large business meeting and family with kids in the rear of the restaurant. First impressions: not a very classy place. No white table cloths. Told the waitress it was our first time here, yet she shared minimal information about the menu and specials. Appetizers: onion rings and corn fritters. Both delicious. Hubby and I both ordered the Filet Mignon. One of each size cut. He liked his blue cheese topping and chopped salad. I loved my filet. It was fantastic. Sugar snap peas were good. **I won't order the mushrooms again.** Thank you for the complimentary dessert. The homemade ice cream is delicious with caramel ribbons and heath bar crunch.

Our server was very nice and the appetizers (onion rings and deviled eggs) were very good! However, we waited about 35 minutes from ordering to receive our steaks. I ordered my steak medium well and it came out charcoaled. I could tell the steak was seasoned well and when cooked properly would be delicious. Unfortunately, for me that was not the case. Especially at a steak house like The Chop House I was really looking forward to an enjoyable steak and not beef jerky.

The pork chops were very good as usual. The chili was very good as usual but here comes the salad. What is it about a take out salad that makes it so much more different than if you order it in the restaurant. Is there two different batches of lettuce? The lettuce tasted like it had been soaked in water all day, and there were so many lettuce chunks in the salad it was basically a wedge salad. There were barely any eggs on the salad (which if my favorite part). Thank God I had extra cheese from the chili. I asked for Extra ranch. All I got was the small little container of ranch. Needless to say that was a wasted side. This isn't the first time we have had this issue with the salads for takeout. The thing that blows my mind and has been a constant issue, is time. They tell you 20-30 minutes and then you arrive within that time frame only to wait another 20-30 minutes on your food. To me that's poor customer service. When you ask about it or say anything they just give you a free appetizer coupon. It's one of our favorite places to get salads but I will not order takeout salads ever again.

Server was chatty and laughed it up with us at first table visit, then was busy and more matter of fact/less interaction thereafter. May be due to more sat tables in her area or the need not to impress us anymore once our order was taken. Which was fine with us, because we were engaged with one another for the occasion. Food came out fairly quickly and everything was made to order. Not a complaint but something to note since we were told entrees come with a salad and a side OR we can do 2 sides "no problem". If you choose 2 sides, there is a $2.99 up-charge. Again, not a complaint, just wished she explained that instead of making it appear there was no difference. Sidenote....still wished they served prime rib. Last asked about it, the manager said it wasn't cost effective and yet their neighboring competitors still offer them.

It came out drenched in oil ( Discussing). We sent it back and waited for our meal. The waitress brought out salads and basically dropped them on the table turned around and left. Most restaurants put the salad dressing on the side, not here. My salad was back stroking in ranch dressing. At this point we asked to see a manager. The manger came over and we explained everything and said we would like to cancel our order and that the experience had been terrible and that we would not be returning. The manger returned with the check for out drinks and gave us a card for a free appetizer if we did come back. OMG are you kidding me. I know Kingsport doesn't have a lot of descent restaurants but the Longhorn Steak House is without a dough the worse restaurant in Kingsport!!!!!

It's been 10 days since our visit and I think I'm still sipping on that water. It was a LOT of water. Our order consisted of a two hot dogs, onion rings, milkshakes, and a hot caramel cake. The hot dogs were good. Not great, but good. The onion rings were very nearly burnt. Probably just a touch too crispy. The milkshakes were ok. But one thing moved this review from a 3 to 4 star: the hot caramel cake. Holy cow. I know it was relatively simple but the yellow cake cupcake, in a bowl filled to the brim with hot caramel sauce, and a tower of vanilla soft serve....YUM! I'd come back here just for that. The service was hit or miss depending on who stopped by the table. All in all, I'd return but I'd try a burger and get a hot caramel cake AND a hot fudge cake.

We found out after we sat down that they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 am on Fridays, in order to prep the kitchen for all the fish frying they do. The restaurant feels like you'd expect for a place called "Pop's"; very homey, a little old-fashioned, but comfortable. We snagged a table for four to wait for my parents to arrive, and the nicest waitress I've ever met brought us coffee and water. (The coffee was surprisingly good, by the way.) Once my parents arrived, we were able to order: Chicken Fried Steak, corn bread and macaroni & cheese and potato salad for me (plus a bonus biscuit brought by our kind waitress); French Dip sandwich for my husband; chicken livers with corn and mashed potatos for mom (don't judge her...I already did haha); beef steak with mashed potatoes and tater tots for dad. My husband also ordered a plate of the spicy pickles for the table, though my mom - who will eat fried chicken livers at 12 pm on a Thursday - refused to touch them. The pickles came out quickly, and were served with two spicy ranch and one regular ranch for dipping. My dad, husband and I went to town on them - crispy, perfectly fried and paired well with the sauces - while my mom looked on. It didn't take long for the menfolk to clear the plate of pickles, so we waited. And we waited. And then we waited some more. Our waitress stopped by a few times to refill our coffee and water, and to give us updates on the food. She did apologize that it was taking so long, at least. Once the food did come out, we all fairly fell on our plates. The chicken fried steak was decent, and had some good flavor. The mac and cheese was good, the potato salad was zesty. The biscuit was big and fluffy on the inside, with a slight crisp to the crust. Perfect. My least favorite thing was the cornbread muffin, it was bland to me. Everybody else loved their meals, though my mom kept saying how big the serving was. It was like the kitchen took every chicken liver they had in the fridge, fried it up and dumped it on her plate. There was no way she was going to eat everything, so she pushed some over to my husband, the only other human at that table who would have been inclined to help her with her meal. We all pushed away from the table over 90 minutes later, sated by the meal and pleased by the service.
