I'm always skeptical of places that have a huge variety of items on the menu... maybe if they cut the menu in half the food would have more flavor. I've been here twice and EVERY THING is bland. First I had the catfish. It was cooked perfectly but BLAND. The broccoli was bland as well. The second time I had the chicken fried chicken. The chicken was juicy but the gravy was bland as hell!! The mac&cheese and mashed potatoes were BLAND!!!!! My friend had the chicken fried steak... BLANNND! As I sat and looked around the restaurant... there was a pattern... plates are dropped off and almost immediately the customers picked up the salt and pepper. The customer service was great. Worst service I've ever had at any restaurant in my entire life! Not only were they slow and forgetful at bringing things to the table like straws and refills, but they spilled ranch all down the front of me and said oh sorry I'll have your waitress bring out extra napkins. Yeah she brought them out about 10 minutes later and said I heard you got spilled on. I'm just glad I wasn't the one that spilled it on you. I blame it on the management. This is about the only restaurant you go to when you never see a manager. They never come out and manage or ask how was your food and service. Went there on a Saturday afternoon with a friend for some post Capitol building tour drinks. The food was really good but unfortunately I wasn't as hungry as i thought I was when I ordered it so I didn't get to enjoy much. The wait staff was pleasurable and personable. We went here because it was across from the mall. The waitress was very nice and took our order right away. Our food took quite a while to come out but it looked good when it did come. My daughter ordered country fried chicken. She took one bit and said it wasn't very good. It had a strange taste. She tried to take a second bite, but a large piece of plastic, that had been wrapped around the chicken, came out. She had already eaten a piece of the plastic. We were horrified!! The waitress took it away and said she would take it off our bill. Honestly, we feel like maybe the meal, which after that point was NOT enjoyable for any of us, should have been free. This visit it was so bad I had to edit my review. First the bar was unattended for a while so I asked for someone at the host counter. The bar tender was seemingly lost. I sat at the sticky bar and she did notify me she'd assist me. She had a few other patrons. There were to go containers waiting to be picked up. She had realized one patrons food had been there all while she was waiting, she didn't offer her a free drink or anything while she waited for her food to get cold. She picked up my card, brought my food, didn't offer hot sauce or ketchup or any condiments. I left. I shouldn't have. My coleslaw was dryer than grandmas cat, my cornmeal catfish was not cooked well, it was soft, slimy and semi firm. My fish was NOT seasoned, at all. No salt no pepper. Ive gotten more fries in the bottom of a mcdonalds bag and the tartar sauce was oily on top. Im not sure if I can let them get me like this again. Every time I would pass this place, I humorously thought to myself that it probably smells like a bag of Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffles inside. The idea of eating at a restaurant named after a cheese didn't sound appetizing to me. Based on other Yelp reviews, I decided to give it a shot. That... and my girlfriend suggested it. Despite the current main photo shown, this place was pretty busy. We were seated right away though. The lighting and atmosphere is very warm and inviting. There is also a big aquarium tank. Our waitress resembled Erin from The Office and was very friendly. Our drinks were served promptly as was our first appetizer. We got the chips and queso with beef. I don't think I've ever had a better serving of chips and cheese. Even the salsa was above average. Looking at the menu, you'll see that the prices are fairly low for such a nice place. Do NOT assume this means small portions. We made that mistake. We shared our meals. I had the New Orleans Pasta which was penne, smoked sausage, chicken, and a cajun alfredo sauce (it comes with shrimp, but I asked for it without). My girlfriend had the steak and chicken strip meal which comes with two sides. The side salad looks common to what you're used to seeing in a side salad, but with good croutons and GOOD ranch. It also comes with a croissant with sweet honey butter drizzled on top. The steak wasn't really big, and I only had one bite, but it was so delicious. The chicken strips were some of the biggest I've seen. We were told that their chicken strip dinner comes with SEVEN strips. Not knowing their portion sizes, we also ordered onion rings. Hand-battered, twice fried, and just yummy. Not greasy at all. I ate one of them and called it quits. They also gave us extra chips since we had extra queso dip left! I was traveling for work this year and while in Georgia I came about this place. Never hearing about it in MI i just figured it was a southern thing. I loved it! I kept wanting something similar to the taste and atmosphere of this place. It's so busy but the service isn't affected by it...I was pleasantly surprised to google the place and find out there was one an hour away. Took me awhile to get the time to make that trip but when I could, I did and I was again completely satisfied. Would recommend this to anyone. Also get the Santa Fe spinach dip as an appetizer. Every time I end up in one of these places I 1) wonder if I have been before and 2) question my marriage. They all look exactly alike (I generally avoid corporate chain restaurants partly because this bothers me). My wife loves the chicken tenders here. I'm sure there are lots of things she's done, places she's been to, just to make me happy. It all is balanced out by having to come here and that one brother in law. I wish I could do a YELP review about him. I'm possibly being unfair, the decor is much nicer than comparable chains like Cracker Barrel, Applebys, or Chili's. Most of the entrees are fried, most are palatable, hardly any are healthy choices. Service is good, parking is easy, it's very kid friendly. The one thing I couldn't understand is how on a Saturday at 6 p.m. are they out of blue cheese dressing? Make some more! There was a bit a of a wait and was told it was going to be 45 min, but got to be seated in 20min which was impressive for how busy it was. I have been here before, but that was like 20-30 years ago. The service is insanely slow. I get not having a lot of servers but if you can't handle more tables then don't seat more people and make them wait forever. Waited about 30 minutes to have our order taken then 30 minutes for our drinks and literally waited an hour for food. Food was temperature when we got it. The best part about the dinner was the first course appetizer onion rings. They were piled high and were very light and crispy. The proportions were larger than life and every left with a full belly. Last time I came here and I come here all the time I found some hair in my food but overall I love this place

A favorite for my wife and I, and lately we've been stuck in a most delicious rut; she loves the grilled bourbon salmon, and i really enjoy the Sweet Heat chicken & shrimp, both served on a bed of rice. The sweet heat is also served with a salad. I've also stopped in for a burger at lunch time, always good, and sometimes i add a side of red beans and rice. Deserts, the monster cookie and the chocolate cake sundae, are best shared by two. Repeat, for two. Seating is usually quick, although might be 20 minutes wait, on a Saturday evening. I absolutely love Cheddar's. They have a large menu with a variety of choices to satisfy anyone. They have surprisingly cheap prices for the portions you are served. I am a big fan of the buffalo chicken wrap, which is enough to share, or take home for another meal. The onion rings are served piled high and with a yummy horseradish type sauce, or if you prefer, their ranch dressing is also very tasty. I'm also a fan of their crispy chicken salad. The honey butter croissant that it is served with, is mouth watering and delicious. If you have room for dessert, get the cookie monster. Unsanitary practices and less than helpful manager. I have been to this place several times but never again. My party of 5 went there after the lunch rush on a Saturday afternoon. Our waiter was training a new waitress so we thought we would have 2 attentive wait staff. Unfortunately, any request we made (lemon for tea, extra napkins) had to be made 3 time to get it fulfilled. When the meals were served, 3 of 5 were incomplete or wrong entirely. My salad, which I ordered without cheese, was delivered with cheese. I sent it back. More than 20 minutes later, I asked about it. When it was brought back, the chicken had melted cheese on the bottom or it. They clearly reserved food that was sent back. I asked for a manager who told me they can't watch all the people all the time and what did we expect? Don't eat there. You wont know if your food is fresh or reserved. Gross! read more

I realize some people can be snobbish about eating at chain restaurants, but if you are looking for an affordable family type of place to eat, this is the spot. The food sort of reminded me of Cracker Barrel which I happen to like (minus the firing of #Brad'sWife). I had a bourbon glazed salmon that was cooked perfectly, fries that were the right crispiness and a delicious broccoli cheese casserole. For the food I would give it 5 stars, but my rating for now is a 4 for a few issues that I hope were just due to graduation weekend. The bathrooms were gross. One stall had water all over it. The floors throughout the restaurant were dirty. The wait to be seated was only 25 minutes, but we waited over an hour for our food. Our server was very nice and attentive. Don't waste your time dinning here. I have attempted on different occasions ordering meals at this location. It seems as if they run out of food frequently. When asked for a substitution waiters declined. I requested to speak with a manager but she wasn't available. Went last night during our order our waitress was rude asked if we could get kids tenders in Buffalo and she was really rude food came out cold, and from that point our waitress disappeared. Asked for refills took ten minutes to get to our table waitress handed my son his sprite and spilled it on him. Once we were finished had to ask another waitress for our bill and boxes. Our food was amazing and our waiter was great! She took her time. When served my pasta with shrimp I could see that there was poop still attached to the shrimp. The manager came out took the dish offered to bring me something else. I declined because to be honest I was already so full from these fabulous onion rings and free drink that I received. I really don't know if any thing on the menu is prepared from scratch. Our family of 4 did wait 20 min or more for our dinner. On the up side the waitress did refill our beverages and updated us on when our food will be out. I noticed a lot of debris on the floor witch turned me off. The broccoli cheddar side dish was not as good as I hoped. I ordered just a plain cheese burger and it tasted great. They put the onions,pickles,tomatoes,honey mayo on the side so you can put on what you desire I'd say this would be compared to a steak and shake food joint in Michigan. Yuck! Only redeeming quality about this place is the service and that's bound to be spotty from one location to the next. I find it incredibly hard to believe that a national chain restaurant makes food from scratch - every single order! It's not logistically possible. If they do make the food from scratch (didn't taste that way) a lot of corners - A LOT - are cut to get the food out to tables that fast. True scratch food will be local and take patience from the consumer'. Don't fall for the marketing gimmick, people! The food here lacks creativity, wholesomeness, dense nutrients, and taste. My wife and I stopped in for what we hoped would be a nice Easter lunch with my Dad. We stopped in around 1:30 on 4/17/2022. Well the food was average at best and the server while a nice young man, needed some training on basic ways to address people his waiting on. My wife ordered an entrée and two sides. She was not happy with the broccoli or green beans which appeared to be french cut style and looked like something out of a del monte can. She said the rest of the food was average to blah. I ordered a T-Bone meal with two sides. The seasoned rice really lacked any flavor and had it not been an off tan color could have passed for plain white steamed rice. The broccoli was a bit overcooked for my taste. I like certain veggies to have a little bit of bite to them and not be mushy. The T Bone was only seared on the presentation side and was also the most fatty piece of meat I have ever eaten especially for a T-bone which is a top cut. It also had almost as much gristle as it did meat. Definitely not worth the 20.49 I paid for that meal. My dad's meal while he did not complain looked average at best as well. The service side of things was okay. The staff were friendly enough but the young man who waited on us needs to learn that you don't address people you are waiting on as "buddy". I am old enough to be his dad at almost 57 and my Dad is almost 80 and he is calling us buddy. He is lucky I didn't take him aside and address it myself. I worked in food service in two different restaurants and in a deli for over 10 years and that is not how you address people. Lansing, MI location should be checked out for health violations due to workers demonstrating poor hygiene by putting used tissues from blowing their noses with the silverware they are rolling up for patrons, rolling silverware after going out for a smoke and not washing their hands, leaving their uneaten food on a table near patrons and wandering back and forth to eat food and then returning to rolling the silverware with no hand hygiene. Photos available. Spoke with the manager PJ or BJ who wondered what was wrong with this. "Is there a problem?" he asked. No concern and no correcting the workers.
