Decent place to get a hot dog. I, unfortunately, thought that if you were at a Coney Island place you would be able to order a Chicago hotdog, which are my favorite. No matter they did have Coney dogs with their own style of chili. They have Detroit style, which is more spicy and soupy than Flint style, which is more meaty. I picked the Flint style because I didn't know how spicy and soupy the other would be. I imagined the spicy hotdog swimming in chili and sliding off the bun as you bit it, but that wasn't the case. The people that were with me ordered one and it looked like your traditional chili dog. Lots of onions on it but no cheese. I guess you could order cheese if you would want to. The other person got chili cheese fries and it was slathered in chili and cheese. Looked very tasty. I ordered the onion rings and they were fresh and hot and had just been made. A milkshake went by me and after seeing what it looked like, I was disappointed that I hadn't ordered one! They have something on the menu that is called the loose burger? I'm not crazy about the name, but it seemed to be ground beef packed into a hotdog bun. My spouse ordered the mushroom and cheeseburger and was very pleased by the number of mushrooms on his burger. Fries were nice and hot. Service was prompt and efficient. The place is decorated with sports memorabilia from around the Michigan area. Apparently they have breakfast too, and even at 11:30 on a weekday I saw people ordering breakfast. Saw where one person ordered one pancake and it covered the plate it was on. I would vote this Lansing's Best Breakfast! The pancakes are incredible. Not just big but really tasty. I recommend with blueberries which has an upcharge but they are not stingy adding them! One pancake is plenty for any but the biggest appetite. The eggs are great on the side and the coffee is good and they use real 1/2 & 1/2 for it. Staff is also very friendly. You will often see local celebrities stopping in for breakfast or coney dogs. My son is a fan of the coney's and loves both the Detroit and Flint style coney's. read more

The waiters were not friendly, wearing face masks and spoke very quietly. After we were jammed into a 4 person booth with 5 people it took 30 minutes for our food to get to us. I ordered a hani and chili cheese fries and the hani was cold and the chili cheese fries were soggy. I've eaten here a number of times now each time I've eaten at the counter and it's probably my last time here. As noted in many other reviews service is excruciatingly slow. It took 38 minutes for 2 coneys and a plate of fries and this doesn't count the 8-9 minutes it took for them to acknowledge I'm at the counter waiting to order. And during my wait it took a good 10-12 minutes to refill my drink after stirring an empty glass of ice cubes in front of several employees. Simply don't have an hour to spend on a meal like this especially when I'm at the counter where the service should be best. read more

I've been coming here for years. Started about 18 years ago when my dad and I worked across the street at the health food store. We would come over for breakfast or lunch depending on the day. I left for a number of years and recently started working in Lansing again and the food has not changed. I always get a 1-Flint, 1-Detroit Coney w/ onion and mustard each and chili cheese fries. The breakfast is good too, I just always come during lunch. But overall great diner food, never any issues with service. My bad for not posting a pic, I was hungry. The only negative(s) about this place is the name and the decor. Then again I am in Lansing...... Go Blue! read more

The food was really good but nothing special. Honestly I am not sure how this place makes money when the are only open for a few hours a day. They close at 2pm sometimes even earlier if they feel like it. We came in on a Thursday at noon and they told us they were closing early. Wtf. This place is in a college town and they close at 2pm or early. They need to figure out that most people eat out from noon throughout the night. Not early until 2pm. Who runs this restaurant? Retirees? Extend your hours and you will get better sales. It's not hard to figure out why so many of the other restaurants near them are still making money after they choose to close at 2. Please stay open later on the weekends at least. That is when most people choose to eat out and your Flint coney's are the one thing that makes this place worth while in my opinion. read more

I don't know why i waited so long to go to Sparty's, a Lansing staple for coneys. However, we were there for breakfast so no coneys this time around. It was extremely busy on a Sunday morning; they even had a hostess -- only for the weekends, we were told. I was a little disappointed with the lack of variety for breakfast choices, with the standard eggs/meat plate or omeletes. Nothing really stood out. I settled for the two eggs, bacon and hash browns with toast. The scrambled eggs weren't fluffy but flat in shape, meaning you have to slice through it. The bacon was chewy, its edges crunchy and not too greasy. The hash browns were thick bits of potato, and I'd say that was the best part of the meal. If I want a simple breakfast option, I'll probably stop back at Sparty's. read more

So we're traveling through the area and the closest I can to Detroit for the Coney Island dog is Lansing. The reviews for Sparty's looked promising so I headed to this diner type place in an old strip mall. I have to admit I'm the guy who typically thinks more is better. A burger is fine but a bacon blue cheese grilled onion burger is better. Plain dog is fine but bacon wrapped deep fried with pulled pork, jalapeño and spicy BBQ sauce is better. Not that this hotdog was plain, but it was just so simple with the Detroit chili and chopped onion. They have both the Detroit and Flint chili and offer a tasting of each if you're unsure. I preferred the Detroit much more. The hotdog was perfect. Soft bun, nice snap to the Koegel frankfurter, sweet and a bit spicy on the sauce. Yum yum. read more

They wanted to close up for the day so badly on 12/23, that they yelled at us that they were closed! On a big shopping day like that, I would've thought that they'd be open at least until 5. We came in right after another couple (less than 30 seconds after them!) and they were seated while we were sent packing at 2:15 pm. There's your reason I never have eaten at this restaurant , even though I grew up in Lansing. Also, looked pretty grubby behind counter. Don't recommend this place. Let the regulars have it.
