I always eat at Cheddars whenever I go to Lufkin (which is pretty often considering I live in Nac). I always order the Spicy Mango Mojito and LAWD let me tell y'all. That drink NEVER disappoints. Tastes nothing like alcohol (mind you I HATE the taste of alcohol) and it has mango pieces in it so this drink is my #1 fav! Check it out if that's your cup of tea! I normally order anything between the Dijon Chicken & Mushrooms, Lemon Pepper Chicken, or the Key West Chicken & Shrimp! Those 3 dishes overload your tastebuds! Although it should be noted that the rice it comes with is quite salty (maybe it's only at that location?) so take note of that. This review is based upon a large to-go order I placed during the week. I ordered 16 individual orders to take to a customer. Cheddar's is not really prepared to handle large orders. First of all, I called at 8:30 in the morning to give them plenty of time. The person who answered the phone told me he couldn't write it down and asked me to call back at 10:15 or 10:30. He assured me I could still get it by 11:15. I called back at 10:30. They put me on hold. After 5-7 minutes on hold, I hung up and called back. I held for another 5 minutes before someone who was halfway competent picked up the phone and offered to take my order. Keep in mind that now it is 10:45 and I STILL want my order by 11:15. Well, if you can imagine, it wasn't ready when I arrived. They didn't start packing my order until almost 11:25 and I didn't leave until after 11:30. They started packing 16 individual orders in little white bags. Finally, someone offered to get a box from the back and put them in that. 11 of the 16 fit in the box which helped but the flimsy Styrofoam containers they used along with the cheap white bags the remaining 5 were packed into caused leakage everywhere. Black beans leaked out of the containers and spilled onto other containers and in the bag. Thankfully, the bags didn't leak or I would've been really ticked. Once I got to where I was going and finally got everything inside, the actual food was pretty good. I really don't have a problem with Cheddar's food which is why I ordered it in the first place. However, there to-go service could definitely use some help when it comes to larger orders. Because the food is good, I gave them two stars but I probably won't order from here again until they get some things fixed. In my experience the steak was over seasoned and my friend found hair in her food and my sisters burger was dry and flavorless. The only flavor you got from it was the BBQ sauce she dipped it in. The broccoli was way overcooked and flavorless. Nothing has flavor. read more

If you've never been to a Cheddar's before, it's basically a Chili's style family restaurant, but with food that's a lot tastier. Their honey butter croissants (available as an appetizer for the table, or they come with salads) are evil and delicious. Justa save a couple hundred extra calories for them. The salads are good, but they're a little heavy on the toppings for me. Years ago when opening a new store for my company I stayed in town for a few weeks. The dry, overcooked chicken breast was the size of a pigeon's and the rice portion was very skimpy as well. I certainly would not ever order that again! I was staying in Nacogdoches for the week, and ventured into Lufkin for dinner as there are limited options in the Nac. We decided to stop in at this Cheddars, as we're familiar with the cheddars where we're from (Corpus). We were pleasantly surprised by the service we received from multiple staff, and the quality of the food. Some people think every location of a chain restaurant is the same, but that can be far from true. In this case, we were expecting average food and service and received so much more. My father's white fish was cooked perfectly, and my salad was great. Food came out quickly even with a moderate crowd. College Station, TX location A roach ran from a plate served to our table Friday evening. The manager on duty said it was an old building and they have had a problem with flies from the rain. This was NO fly. It was a roach. We could not eat our meals after that. They didn't ask for payment for the food but we had had 2 drinks ($14.06) while waiting on our dinner that they made us pay for. Worst service ever! Almost 10 minutes just for drink orders, then we were informed the server that took our drink order was not our server. Another 10 minutes for our drinks and actual server to show up even though she had the table right next to us. No silverware, salt/pepper or other condiments on the table. When our order did arrive (by a food runner) my mixed drink arrived (with the meal) when ordered with original drinks, I informed the drink runner it was not the right drink TWICE they told me it was the correct drink I ordered. The server finally showed up to ask if we were ok we ask for her to bring condiments that were ordered with the meal. The next time we saw the server was when she asked if we needed anything about 20 minutes later I asked to be brought the check and due to the poor SLOW service I gave her my gift card to speed up the check out, when she came back to the table she told me how much I still owed but did not bring the actual check and I informed her I wanted to see the actual check she then brought me a receipt that had the gift card amount on it I then explained i wanted to see my itemized bill the actual check, when she brought it out it was wrong I was being charged for a mixed drink I did not order I asked to speak to the manager and when the manager (wearing a red chefs shirt) came out I informed him what the drink runner had told me and he told me because I drank the drink that I was given and was told it was the drink that I had ordered I had to pay for it I asked to speak to the general manager I was told I can either pay the price or he would call the cops. I told him to call the cops and that I would be contacting their corporate office. He told me he didn't care. In order to be done with them I gave him my credit card and told him to charge it and I would just dispute the charges with my credit card company. 5 minutes later I see him wondering around the restaurant so I track him down asking him where my receipt is he said they were working on it I said I thought you were the manager he said I am but another manager had to fix it. Finally another manager (wearing a green shirt and apron) came out with my receipt and said they only charged the gift card I was using to pay with. Very surprised to see the number of reviews about lack of service. We have eaten here a number of times and have the opposite problem. I guess the management did address the service issues because now you can't get the buggers to leave you alone. My wife and I talk before and during our dinner sometimes about personal things and we do not want to be constantly bothered with refills and check ups and questions. It's got so bad here, that we have agreed to specifically ask our next waiter to NOT come back to the table unless we call him over. The foot is consistently good and the service is good just too much. The place is clean and welcoming. That is why 4*s but the service overkill is 2* . They just need to get the balance right. I'm a little disappointed with my local cheddars tonight. Everything started out great, then we ordered steaks. I ordered mine med rare, my mom ordered hers med well. Both steaks came out tough as leather and very well done. Although not happy that the steaks were cooked incorrectly I'm more disappointed that I told my waitress that the steaks were over cooked and she just walked off. She made no apologies, never offered to take the steaks back, made no attempt to send over a manager. Everything else about my meal was perfect, but unfortunately the steak was the main course and I'm extremely disappointed in how we were treated by our waitress once I told her the steaks were over cooked and tough. Server claimed someone stole our onion rings and acted like she didn't want to mess with getting us the onion rings we ordered. We got our bill and was overcharged for an extra drink. When I consulted the waiter and asked for a new drink, the bartender came over and was very defensive when I politely pointed out that the lady at the next table got the same drink with significantly less ice in it. Our new favorite in Tyler for lunch. They are always having specials for free appetizers or desserts and their food is hot, inexpensive and delicious check out their lunch combos! Generous servings with reasonable prices. We have always had friendly, efficient service, although they can get very busy at peak lunch hours. But they brought out the wrong dinner plate that my mother in law ordered. After a half hour wait, they finally bring the plate with just the fish when she ordered two sides to go with it.
