The vibe inside this bar is fun and there's a lot to do, especially with a big group. Bar service can be a little slow during midday hours on the weekends. Had a very unpleasant experience though with the bouncers - my cousin exited the bar to smoke a cigarette, had a drink and a water in his hand, finished the remainder of the beer (3 sips) and continued outside with the water. Was denied reentry with the water because the bouncer "didn't know where he came from". At a time when there wasn't a line at the bar, it's a little astonishing that the staff couldn't identify one person who had recently exited the establishment. read more

The Cheeky Monkey experience begins on lansdowne street when you are greeted by the fantastic Bouncer Drew. He is as professional as he is handsome. A friend told me about this hidden gem on Landsdowne when I was asking around for good Boston date spots, and this fun-packed bar didn't disappoint. The drinks, service (especially the wonderful hostess), and atmosphere were great and honestly, who can beat a bar that has every game you can imagine! Came here with a bunch of friends before the red Sox game. It was great. Awesome space! The host staff was so nice greeting me and accommodating my party of 8. My server Adrianna was very quick and friendly. The food was so good and came out in time for us to even play a game of pool before we had to leave for the game. Kelly at the game rentals was quick to get us a pool table, even with the packed space. Five star experience! Will definitely be going back!!! read more

Great place with better service. Mary, the bartender, went above and beyond to make my visit not only fun but comfortable. She was quite accommodating with beer samples, and was very patient with my out-of-town lack of knowledge. The cool space with games totally helps, but the staff is what warrants a return trip. This place is cool inside, but unfortunately they condone sexual harassment. I even had to the ask the blond, short manager for help and she said she would separate the men who had been grabbing and calling me names in line from me in the bar. After asking her when I got in, then asking again when they were trolling me, she threw them out. The guys she threw out were then waiting for my boyfriend and his friends outside for the night. Cheeky Monkey is AWESOME. Such a cool spot regardless of if you're going to a Sox game or not. Lots of variety of beer, super cool bartenders who whip up awesome creative shots, and really cool loungey vibes in the back. I was kind of disappointed that they didn't have 2/6 of their craft beers the day I went. I really wanted to try the blueberry one. After a great date night of bowling and going to the arcade at Lucky strike we decided to go over to cheeky monkey brewing for some food. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to the beginning of our night. I order the curry chicken and my date order the grilled cheese. Unfortunately the food tasted very off. Tasted like something I was trying to make for myself but it was a failed attempt... Over all wouldn't come back for the food but would came back for drinks. Delicious beer. Not a lot of choices for their own beer but we found one we liked. Our meals were good and our server was even better. The place was packed before a concert at Fenway but he was attentive and quick. The only downside is that it was a little loud with the large crowd so it may not be a good choice for a quiet dinner but if you are looking for a good beer/dinner in a fun atmosphere, give them a try. read more

I don't normally leave bad reviews, but the experience at Cheeky Monkey was just bad all around. Got there at opening for a drink before the Sox game, and the place opened 10 minutes late. Took forever to have orders taken and didn't even get a beer menu when seated. We actually watched some customers get up and leave because the service took so long. Our waitress was nice but very slow. Beers finally get there and one smelled skunked. Had to order food to sit outside and the salad was clearly made yesterday--totally wilted and soggy. Completely inedible. Bao rolls were stale, clearly store bought, and the dish was sopping in aoli sauce. Very disappointing. Had been looking forward to welcoming another good brewery to the area. The space is gorgeous and so close to Fenway. High hopes with a big let down. Won't be coming back. read more

Been calling for three days now to talk to someone about an incorrect charge to my card there last Monday. I played pool for a while and paid, but then when I checked my bank statement I saw that someone had added $20 to my credit card AFTER I had signed it. Pretty messed up. I can't get through to anyone at the bar and I've called maybe 8 times and left 3 messages. Every time I called too it was during working hours. My boyfriend and I came here before a show because the menu online looked great! However, reading the menu was the best part of the experience. While the interior design was well done, the service was spotty and the food was disappointing to say the least. At most I would return here for a drink at the bar but would absolutely avoid ordering food at all costs. We got two appetizers to start: the deviled eggs and the chicken wings. The eggs were rubbery and the wings were fatty with that reheated, hard to chew texture. For an entree I ordered their mushroom flatbread and that was arguably even worse. The mushrooms were slimy and the flatbread was so tough I couldn't even tear it. I couldn't tell if it was totally stale or had just been reheated so harshly that it had turned to cardboard. In terms of service, we ordered drinks pretty quickly and then when they were brought put it the appetizers while we had her attention. Then we didn't see anyone until someone else brought the appetizers to us, while we still hadn't even ordered entrees! Eventually the server came over to ask how the apps were and we put in entrees then - in hindsight I wish we had just asked for the check at that point. No one checked in with us after the food was brought and then when we were given the check no one came to get it until the manager finally saw it and took care of it. While I know this place is only a few months old, by now they should have at least figured out the basics. read more

Not a whole lot to write home about. They advertise that they're a brewery but they only had 4 house brewed beers on tap. The one I had was meh. Not terrible, not great. Fine but not memorable. It's kind of to breweries what lucky strike is to bowling alleys. The thing it's supposed to be isn't really the thing it does. This is the worst possible place to go. Staff is extremely rude. I stepped out of the line to talk to someone for 30 seconds. A manager ran out and said I was not allowed back in line even though the groups in front of me all said I was in line and it was perfectly fine. They insisted I was not welcome in and could care less if I came back and called me an asshole. It's clear the management has power issues. I'd say this place is a solid 4.5/5. There was a solid local beer selection, but they were out of a bunch of their own brews, which seemed odd to us. The food is good and pretty reasonably priced. There are definitely a few things I want to go back to try. The kids in our group had some difficulties making use of the games in the back at first, but a little self-advocacy got them there eventually. The staff were great and kept glasses full but were kind of hard of find if you wanted to order more. Noise levels weren't bad given what it is, but by the end, someone kept playing with the lights, alternating between brightening and dimming, which was distracting. This place was amazing , came here for the first time with friends from out of state to show them around Fenway and this was defiantly the place to bring them . Their beers was so refreshing . My server Jenny was awesome . Her customer service was A1 . She was very quick with our food and was very attentive to all of us . We then moved on to play some games , we thought it'd take a while because of how pack it was but Kelly and Andy at the game booth were great as well worked very quickly through the " wait list " they keep us laughing and smiling while waiting . Even the door guy put us in good vibes . The managers even stopped by to check on how everything was a " joe " and a " Juliana" they were super nice ! Over all very good experience . Went to the old Tequila Rain before the Sox/Tigers game Tues night. Co-worker recommended it. Place is called Cheeky Monkey now. Beers are pretty good, I thought. It looked pretty cool inside, and the game area was a nice touch. Very different for the Fenway Area. We sat at the bar and that's where things started to go very badly. After waiting over 5 minutes for the tall blonde bartender to get off her phone and then adjust her clown-like make-up we were finally acknowledged. No smile, no greeting. Totally devoid of personality. It was weird, too. She kinda gave us this look like we were scum for even sitting at her bar, like we were in inconvenience to her. We asked her for a draft menu and I can't be sure, but my friends said she rolled her eyes at that request, like it actually annoyed her to do her job. Anyway, it just got worse from there and was punctuated by the fact that it took us nearly twice as long to close our tab as it did to open it because she wouldn't stop chatting to her co-worker. She never looked up. We tipped 18%, which she didn't deserve, and that's when we heard her say it. She looked at the signed copy and said "fucking seriously?!" While looking at the tip line. I guess she thought we missed that. Mind blown! Anyway, If you want to go to a place where the bartender pays more attention to her caked-on make-up than she does her service, than Cheeky Monkey is for you. If you want to hear the most prolific and exaggerated Boston accent of all time, than find this girl behind the "bah". If you like it when you can overhear your bartender's conversation and she swears more than a sailor, than go no further than Cheeky Monkey.
