    Various buffet items

Rated 3.5, but I can't give 1/2 stars. Not many Chinese quick service restaurants downtown, but this one is quick and near my work. The buffet is back open, so I popped in for a Togo buffet. The quantity of items was smaller than pre-COVID, but all items were there. I think the prices have been raised, and it was $8.50 or so for the buffet Togo. You are given a styrofoam container and then can also do soup at the end of the line. Items include fried rice, lo mein noodles, egg rolls, pork dumplings, general chicken, honey chicken, chicken and broccoli and a few more main dishes. They didn't have their shrimp or green beans when I last visited. Items were fresh and my favorites from the buffet are their soup, pork dumplings, general chicken and honey chicken. Quick, easy and filling!

Bean curd Szechuan style, vegetable with bean curd soup, broccoli with garlic sauce. And chopsticks.

We didn't mean to eat here. We were trying to eat somewhere else. We had big plans to enjoy a nice dinner at a trendy place before our show at the Kentucky Center. But there was rain. And wind. And cold. And then the restaurant we had planned to visit was closed. And there, through the cold, dripping, misery of the storm, shone Cheer King Star - a beacon in the bleakness that threatened our evening. It's not much to look at, but I've found this to be true of most good Chinese places. The inside is clean and no fuss, with plastic tables and chairs, and a condiment station with individual packages of soy and duck sauce, plastic utensils, and single-use chopsticks. You order at the counter, pay, and, if you're hanging around because you've got a show to get to, choose a table. Our food arrived quickly, and SO delightfully hot (remember, it was cold and rainy). I can confirm the fabulousness of the following: -Vegetable with bean curd soup -Bean curd Szechuan style -Broccoli with garlic sauce Although we didn't mean to eat here, I'm so glad we accidentally popped in. Great flavor, perfectly cooked - who needs trendy when you've got Cheer King Star?

Looking for Chinese food in downtown Louisville is a little bit challenging. Cheer King is tucked away and not showy, but provides reliable and affordable Chinese food at lunch time. The buffet is limited but sufficient and if you skip the drink, you can eat lunch for $6.95. How great is that? I ate here twice. The first time I dined in and the second time I carried out. Carry out was the best bet as the inside is not very aesthetically appealing.

    Small, but clean and efficient.

My review will be brief and efficient just like this Chinese restaurant. Cheer King star is small, nondescript, but clean and fast. The price is cheap: $6.95 for buffet; $7.95 w a drink. You can also order al a carte from the menu. Their offerings are the usual Chinese take out favorites, no surprises. But the dishes are replenished w high frequency at lunch time so everything is fresh as can be. I also find that the dishes are not overly salty or goopy like some other places. I highly recommend this place for a quick lunch!

Bottom is Orange Chicken, middle is General Tso Chicken combo and top is C23. Bourbon Chicken Combination Plate

Typical neighborhood Chinese restaurant that we all love with same menu we're used too. Food was amazing and delicious. Stayed hot for a while too. Definitely will come back to take it home for dinner for our family.

Beef&Broccoli, fried wonton, pork lomein, Bbq chicken, sugar donuts.

The Sichuan cucumber salad and Sichuan jelly were so refreshing. Dont miss the dry hotpot section; highly recommend!! The drinks menu is limited to bottles beers and soft drinks. Since we've been roadtripping through TN and KY for the past week, it was so nice to eat some authentic Chinese food while traveling through Louisville. Can't believe this place exists in Louisville of all places!! Spectacular.

It started with me placing an online order. This is new on their website while I was looking at the menu. I figured this would be best than calling the restaurant. How I was so wrong. I placed it with a 30 minute window. Ordered at 4:44 to be pick up at 5:14pm. I showed up to the restaurant at 5:03pm. There was about 4 other people at the counter. One person just placed their order, another person said her mom called to place the order but wasn't sure when it would be ready. They told everyone 20 min. I showed my ordered and they were going to be me 20 minute. I said I placed my order 20 minutes ago. Ok so I waited... Another lady came in and said that she placed her order around the same time online. Her order number was 140 and she had a long receipt with quite a lot of items. My order was 148, somehow. By the time I asked what's going on with my order at 5:15, they said they go by the order number and they're on 138. I don't think they processed my order until I arrived at 5:03pm. It took until 5:39pm before I receive the order in my hand. I only had very few items, one of which was an order for combination lo mein, plain mantou, shrimp tofu and wonton noodle soup. Mind blowing because I paid $50. The online system also charge a $1 fee, which I did not know about until I saw the receipt. Which would had been fine if my order was done in the time it was promised. Now, the staff was not the most friendly either... the person that handed me the bag almost dropped it because she put it in my hand, didn't say a word and turned and walked away. They cannot be any more rude than that. I was sweating profusely and shaking while waiting for a very long time while I am pregnant and nauseous. Now here's the review for the food. It was not good. We have had some on and off with their food and we haven't been back for a while so I wanted to give them another chance. But their lo mein was soo salty, and they used pad thai noodles. The wonton noodle soup was small container, so bland, literally no flavors, and the wonton tasted so bad. They put really hot tofu that was deep fried in styrofoam container that it put a hole through the container. So my paper bag was soaked and wet within the 6 minutes drive home. The mantou was so tiny for $4.5. Not worth it. All in all, the 4 items that I ordered did not worth the $50 for almost an hour wait, not worth my time or money. I wouldn't have eaten the food if I didn't already paid. Had I not already paid online, I would just had left.

Recently though, I wound up throwing out my hunan chicken. It actually tasted of plastic or chemicals. Maybe it was just so steaming hot when it went into the plastic tupperware? I have gotten the veggie egg foo young a few times and enjoyed it, though the gravy sauce has a tiny but of a licorice taste so use that in moderation! This particular time, the veggies were so bland and tasted more like water. Definitely missed seasoning. I'm not sure, but when it comes to take-out, I prefer something a bit more consistent.
