Great Wall is honestly elite! Americanized Chinese spot but the guy still makes legit dim sum, steamed buns, other traditional dishes, and somehow even Pad Thai that beats some Thai places (and I've eaten Pad Thai in Thailand so that's my official credential). Everything I've tried has been FIRE, vegetable rolls taste fresh and amazing, taro buns are top tier (not homemade, and he'll straight up tell you what's made in-house vs pre-made, so much respect). Also love that it's never greasy, never sloppy, quality over quantity mindset. Super friendly dude too. Eating inside is quiet but never done it myself, I also like the Great Wall painting / wall paper inside! And of course the big bubble head in the fish tank! This place is easily over-looked. They just started advertising for cold jasmine tea. Which they make in-house and it's pretty refreshing. I always get the Singapore Noodles and wonton soup. It's delicious. All food is cooked to order. I normally dine in, so the wait will be a bit cause you're getting super fresh food. Restaurant seats about 40 comfortable and is normally not that busy outside of lunch hours. If you come during lunch. Call-in ahead of time cause it will be busy. read more

I love this resturant!!! They have the best Covid set up of any restaurant I've been to! The staff is completely seperated from customers and there is 0 interaction. The staff also all had masks on properly the entire time I was in restaurants and I also observed good hand washing behavior. As for their food, it's my favorite Chinese in Louisville! The crab rangoon are stuffed and delicious. There are very generous size portions. I also love their general tso chicken. read more

I live less than half of a mile from Great Wall. Thanks to Yelp for reminding me of this, so I could give it a try. I ordered takeout via Great Wall's Yelp page. I got Singapore noodles for me, and my mother in law got the Dragon & Phoenix, along with shrimp egg rolls to share. My order was ready about 25 minutes after submitting it. And I have to give Great Wall kudos for outfitting their registers to make them COVID safe. Plexiglass spans the entire space with a box they put orders in that the customer opens on the other side, similar to a bank teller window. Once home I dug into my food. I was a bit worried my Singapore noodles would be VERY spicy considering they were brighter orange than I've seen elsewhere. But these were spicy without overdoing it. This also had a decent amount of protein in it. The egg rolls were good too albeit a bit too greasy. I would order from here again! read more

If you drive by too fast you'll miss the Great Wall sign, located on Brownsboro Rd in a center with other shops. This spot is located down the hill from my best friend's house so we opted to do takeout for our scary movie night. I ordered a small sweet and sour chicken with white rice and a pork egg roll. Small is the right amount for one person, one meal, but if you want to have leftovers get the regular meal for $3 more. Food pick up was fast and friendly, my meal was hot and I appreciated the sauce can on the side. Less than $10 for dinner. New to me - but found in on my way home and thought I would give it a try. Im a sucker for good steamed dumplings -and these were reeeeallly good. When the order was taken, they said it would be 10-15 minutes for my lunch order. It ended up being 35, and although it was packaged well, and traveled well, was still a lot of time for lunch order. There were probably 7 people waiting in the dining area for their food. The friend rice was ok, the Mongolian beef was ok (dry and chewy - but I loved the caramelized onions), the shrimp lomein was good, and the shrimp egg rolls were a great surprise. High point? The chicken wings appeared to be refried upon ordering as it had a dark deep-fried layer and a lighter fried layer on top that was gooped onto the dark fried areas. The sesame chicken meal with pork fried rice tasted like old leftovers. They also charge for fortune cookies online but they gave me 4 for free with my order. read more

One of my great guilty pleasures in life is Chinese carry out. Sometimes you just want something tasty that someone else prepares, sodium level be darned! I visited Great Wall recently after I had trouble finding parking at my usual Chinese spot. Located on the Brownsboro Rd side of Clifton in an unassuming strip mall, Great Wall has ample parking, an immediate plus. Inside, it's nothing fancy. There's a mural that looks like it was hand painted and their are very traditional-looking chairs with a red silk and gold embroidery on the seats. I've gotten carry out, and usually place my order once I get there, although online ordering is available. It's quick and easy to place an order once you're there, and there are seats to sit in while you wait. So far I've gotten Wonton Soup, and it's quite tasty here! The dumplings are filled with a tasty, savory pork and there are green onions and pieces of pork in the broth. All in all, this place is great for stopping in and grabbing a quick bite to take home! read more

My first experience at Great Wall was bad, but I have returned twice since then, and my experience has been better. The restaurant is dark, and the menu board is very old and faded. Rather than updating the menu board, Great Wall has simply obscured the outdated prices. It's weird ordering without seeing prices. The window is festooned with paper signs advertising "special" items you might not be accustomed to seeing at a Chinese place: "Honey Mustard Chicken?" The woman at the counter is not particularly warm or welcoming, but that might be cultural. On this visit, I ordered a Hunan Chicken lunch special. It comes with generous servings of Hunan Chicken and Fried Rice accompanied by an Egg Roll. At $5.50, the lunch specials are truly a bargain. Food is freshly prepared to order and comes out piping hot. The vegetables are al dente, just as I like them. The fried rice is yellow and boring. That's okay: I can avoid some carbs. The Egg Roll was okay. I will return regularly for lunch specials, but not after 3:00 pm, when the price of an identical meal doubles. read more

Not a big deal-mistakes happen. Just apologize for the oversight, fix our food as quickly as you can, and it's all good. That is not how this went down. The (very obviously frustrated) man working the counter STARTED YELLING AT MY MOTHER. You read that right. She was standing beside me, and gave a sigh of disappointment that they didn't have receive our order, but sat down to wait for it to get cooked. This man started YELLING, "YOU DIDN'T CALL! WE'RE TOO BUSY TO CHECK FOR ORDERS!" We walked out, and I advise you keep on walking. This place is a joke. read more

This is a great Chinese restaurant I stumbled upon while staying at an Air B&B. It's located in a strip mall (Brownsboro plaza) next to a subway and at first glance it doesn't look like much but thought I'd give it a try. I was here on a Monday afternoon at 4:25pm. Order time to table was about 10 minutes. There were two customers ahead of me and they were also working on 2 takeout orders. I had the chicken curry with white rice and a sweet tea. It was delicious, a good size portion and the tea complimented the spice nicely. The dish had slices of chicken, onions and carrots in a yellow curry sauce. My meal with beverage was less that $12. I was here after 4pm...they also have several lunch specials available to choose from until 3pm. Conveniently located near a smart dollar store (you can pick up necessities while you wait for your order). The flow of customers and phone orders definitely increased while I was there so you should expect to wait a bit longer for your order later in the day into the evening. I don't think that I will be visting this restaurant again. I decided to stop in there since it is close to my job and I pass it coming into the office some mornings (depending on route). I ordered the Kung Po Chicken lunch (w/steamed rice) with an order of Fried Dumplings. The Kung Po Chicken tasted really really good and the steamed rice was decent. The problem was with the Fried Dumplings and the Egg Roll that came with my lunch special. Yes, I understand that both of these items are fried and probably cooked in grease (not an idiot). The problem with the egg roll and dumplings was that they were holding grease. Similar to what happens when you fry something, don't let it drain all on top of something absorbent like a paper towel or let it hang in the fry basket. The dumplings were so full of grease that I didn't even eat them. The other issue that I had was with the staff at the counter. The man working the counter was acting as if I was bothering him and was eating while packing orders. So I tried to pay using a ATT Reward card ( you know the ones you get for starting service with them), but the card was declined the first time. The man working the counter was not discreet about it and basically yelled it across the restaurant even though I was standing right in front of him. I then grabbed another "reward card" (one that I haven't used) but it was declined and he yelled that again and walked off. I told him to give me a moment to check the balances. One card had $34.00 and the other had $100 (my order was only $12) and I played the message on speakerphone. He then told me that I needed to activate my cards ( I just looked at him). I ended up going out to my car to get my debit card and paid for my order. So overall, the food isn't bad as long as it isn't fried and everything with the staff is fine so long as you are paying in cash. If there is a mishap with your card, the man running the counter will yell it out across the restaurant. read more

Great Wall was a great disappointment to us. We were craving Americanized Chinese food and we decided to try this place. We haven't been at this take out place for several years. It took them twenty minutes for our food to be cooked. They did seem very busy. The shrimp toast was burnt on the outside. The filling inside the toast did not taste shrimpy. It seemed to be a pork filling instead of a shrimp filling. The shrimp with lobster sauce was bland and it also has pieces of pork in the sauce. On the menu, this dish did not indicate that it has pork in it. The fried rice was bland. The egg roll was not tasty. The beef with curry sauce was like beef cooked in water filled with spices, but somehow lacked flavor. It was hot and flavorless. Nevertheless, if we are in the area again, we will return to Asian Wok instead. read more

I've been ordering carry out from this place for probably 25 years and I've always been happy. Top quality ingredients, ultra fast service and a growing menu that adds interesting new dishes. The house special variations of egg fu young, fried rice, Singapore noodles and lo mein, are chock full of shrimp, pork, chicken, and beef - never have I seen the skimp on any item. A family owned restaurant and the entire family is there working. I've watched the kids grow up there! I highly recommend this place for both carry out and eat-in, although the table area is of modest decor and ambience. Favorites are Sa Cha Beef, General Tso's Chicken and egg fu yung. Definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant in Louisville (though Oriental House has a more diverse menu, and has a bit of a nicer ambiance if you plan on eating in). I typically get one of the steamed (aka "diet") dishes, and they're all great, with an ample variety/quantity of vegetables, lean protein, and enough flavor that I only have to use a minimal quantity of the sauce supplied on the side. There are a lot of chinese restaurants in Louisville trying the "up-scale" concept, but I wanted a traditional chinese restaurant with delicious food. I've been to Great Wall twice now and have tried a variety of items, including Sesame Chicken, Egg rolls, Crab Rangoon, and their Tofu entree and all are prepared with the ideal sauces and spices.
