This is not my first bad experience here. I thought maybe they were just having an off day. The first time they gave us the wrong order and when we took it back inside they gave it to the correct people even though we opened it to check it. Remind you this is during covid. Today we are coming back from Louisville stopped by picked up food, checked it, it looked right. Got home to Brandenburg opened up my special fried rice and what do you know not one piece of meat in there. I checked the reciept and she put down vegetables fried rice. The food was delicious. Although the inside of the building does not look great, the view of the kitchen and seeing how the food was made provided me reassurance. Food was absolutely fresh and tasty. Yeah. OK. This place is pretty good. I have to admit... I seriously had my doubts. Typically, the Southend of Louisville doesn't get much Yelp traffic. And what Yelp traffic it does get is usually overblown. Usually 1 stars because the waitress only gave them one refill, or 5 stars for a marginally good dinner. So when I saw 4 stars for Chong Garden - a restaurant in the shopping center that contains Wal-Mart... meh. Color me skeptical. But you know what? It delivered. The place is actually pretty good. As well, it is relatively cheap. And what's more, the dude behind the counter was super nice. We all ended up with something different. I went with the authentic General Tso's, of course. I don't know what everyone else got. I really enjoyed my dish, and everyone thought that their food was great. You get a lot for the price. I couldn't eat all of mine. There are two things keeping it from being 5 stars... * It is a very dated place. Could use a little TLC. Floors. Walls. Bathroom. But, it was clean. Don't confuse dated with unclean. It's clean, just old looking. * There was nothing that blew my doors off. It was a good place that served up good tasting food by super nice people. Not a chain? 4 stars for you. I'm glad I went. I don't know what has happened to Chong Garden. It used to be THE spot for great Chinese food. The last few times I have ordered from there the food has been awful. Anything with chicken tastes like it has been sitting and reheated. The crab rangoon last time tasted so fishy. I've never had a crab rangoon that tasted like fish, so that was weird. I don't know if it's because they're putting all of their effort into their Fern Creek location or what, but the Dixie location has dropped off my radar for good. read more

Holy moly - I cannot believe how great this takeout Chinese food was! I had the lunch war su gai and rangoon. The rangoon was the best I have ever had and the entree did not disappoint. It came with a canned soda and it was the coldest Coke ever. It all hit just right. The place doesn't impress as far as looks, but I would prefer the good be outstanding over a lovely lobby. I've unfortunately made the mistake of going to other Chinese restaurants in the past. Always regretted it. Lol. Have been going here for many years. I always order extra for lunch/dinner the next day. Great food & service. My only (complaint?) is that I miss actually seeing the people that work there. Everything is covered up in plastic & such. It is really sad how badly this place has gone downhill. Long time patrons will remember when the petite Chinese girl ran the establishment. She was always smiling and friendly and would always say "ten minute, OK?" when you phoned your order in. Sometimes there'd be a line out the door. The food was always hot, fresh and amazing. Not so anymore. First off, when you walk in, there are 12-paks of soft drinks piled everywhere, as if the dining room were a storage area and not a dining room. I think some of the bad vibe is left over from COVID protocols but still, the place looks very uninviting. My wife and I got carryout from there the other day and I don't know how to describe it other than to say it was trash. My wife got sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoon and didn't offer much of an opinion as to the quality. I got special fried rice and fried dumplings and it was barely edible. The fried rice was a weird yellow color that you would not expect from fried rice. It was unremarkable, greasy and, I don't know why but I kept thinking the rice was from another dish and they used it in my order instead of throwing it away. Instead of being lightly browned, the dumplings were dry, deflated and overfried. Our tab was better than thirty bucks, and to say I expected a lot more for my money would be an understatement. To cut to the chase and get to the point of this review, I told my wife that, if this is the quality of the food they are going to offer, then they might as well get it over with and go out of business. read more

I ordered the Happy Family with shrimp and scallops. The dish was amazing, had a great garlic sauce to it and they give you ample veggies. My complaints, the scallops are nearly invisible because they're tiny and I feel like the broccoli wasn't fresh. I could see the yellow in the broccoli so I knew it was old. Great Chinese food always consistent. We order the Fried Bean Curd and they give us an abundance of tofu.

THIEVES!! After spending 40 minutes explaining that I was charged for food I didn't receive, I was denied a refund. I was told I was speaking to a manager so I was expecting some sort of customer service. But after 20 minutes of arguing, I noticed the attitude and general tone of the person I was speaking with. When I asked this person if they were an adult, they fell silent. After a couple more times of asking the same question he still had not answered me. I told him if they let a child be a manager and deal with customer complaints, that my $40 is going to be the least of their worries. After that, conveniently enough he said the security guard walked in and said that he saw our food waiting for us outside the door since they were already closed. After questioning surrounding businesses I found that the security guard that worked tonight I made the order did not work today. So his last dish ever was to make up a story just so that you could refuse to give me back money for no service. This is always been my favorite Chinese place to eat. But after this experience I plan on doing everything I can to get this place shut down. The main reason being is that when he asked me why I didn't come in time I had to explain to him that with one leg it would take me much longer than someone with two legs to make it up there. Still refuse any sort of offer to appease the situation. If you enjoy the restaurant I suggest you visit them soon because after I call the next few people I plan to call they probably won't be there much longer. We order here a lot. There's never been a problem until tonight. I placed and paid for my order. I let them know we would be late and they said okay. It was near closing time so I apologized several times and asked if the could stay 10 minutes late, "no problem". The next call I got was a man yelling at me, but again I apologized. I said since I already paid and they need to go to leave the order outside the door. We were 7 minutes away. He said okay. When we got there, having to walk though the rain, the order wasn't there and no one came to the door. They didn't even refund my money to buy my family something else for dinner. read more

Always order this as pick up. Not many people eat inside. It's super quick, always 10 mins and pretty reasonable. The portions feed two so great for left overs. Combination meals include fried rice and an egg roll. General tso, sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken are our usual. You can make extra spicy too, just ask. Crab Rangoon is very good too! Super busy place. They are open on the holidays too! Located in a Walmart strip so traffic can be busy to get into lot. I call it in and by the time I get there it's ready. Our favorite Chinese food on the south end. Also, if you order take out be sure to grab plastic forks and sauces they do not put in the bag. In for a treat! Yummy! read more

Walked in today because I was out with a family member... did not order any food here because of my trip to the dentist. However, my family member did order food. The lady behind the counter was very rude and impersonal. When my friend who I was riding with picked up her purse it took effort from whatever sticky substance was on the counter. The place did not look like it was cleaned since the dawn of time... the pictures on the wall were faded. It looked old, greasy and tired... sad place. For a "fast food" Chinese restaurant Chong Garden is good. I wouldn't say it's the best Chinese place in Louisville, even in this price range (I won't mention the wonderful restaurant by UofL). I definitely appreciate this restaurant more after reading all the wonderful reviews. Like others I have been eating here for years and haven't had too many issues. I must be fortunate to not have a crapy neighborhood Chinese restaurant. I like their spring & egg rolls, steamed dumplings, crab rangoon and chicken teriyaki appetizer. For meals I like the garlic and cashew chicken dinners, chicken chow mei fun and the steamed chicken and vegetables. I would like to try a few things on their menu but they don't always give descriptions so I'm not exactly sure what they are (nothing too crazy). I also REALLY like their fried donuts. I really appreciate all of the employees hard work because I always see the same people working. read more

This place is the best Chinese place close to my office...but far from the best Chinese food I've had. Very greasy, very bleh. You feel like garbage after you eat it. The only thing that was really above average were their steamed dumplings. The sauce that went with them was also pretty good! However, everything else was mediocre. They also don't include sweet and sour sauce with their crab rangoon, which was odd to me. For their lunch specials, they give you a soda. I thought that was odd as well considering most places include an eggroll. The restaurant itself definitely needs some renovations. The walls and floors looked filthy. I would hate to see what the inside of the kitchen looked like. I'm not sure that I will be back. I would rather drive further down Dixie to try and find something better. read more

A side of broccoli costs $5.15. To be honest, for the quality, the price is not that great there. They've messed up our order so many times and we've never thrown a fit. One night we were eating there after WAY overpaying for our mediocre meal, and they left out my entire half of the order and wouldn't believe us lol. Made us show them our bag and open every container to make sure we weren't lying. I'd 100% support this place if it were cleaner, if the staff were friendlier, and if the food tasted worth the price. They even charge you for a small styrofoam cup of water . Asia House down the road has better food, a cleaner facility, and even includes free fountain drinks with meals. Just saying. read more
