Best hot dogs in the area, one of the best places overall in the Philly area, if you ask me!

Are you the kind of person who will drive for a great hot dog? Then set your GPS to 318 Bustleton Pike, Feasterville-Trevose, PA., and get you and yours to Cheese Dawgs, purveyors of great hot dogs worth the drive. Mrs. F and I reviewed all the great YELPs for this establishment, until we just couldn't stand it anymore. So today we drove all the way from Langhorne (4 miles!), laden with great hot dog expectations. We were not disappointed! On the north side of Bustleton Pike, Cheese Dawgs is understated, offering plenty of parking in front. As we walked up to the door, a hand-lettered sign boasted new Bacon Buttercups, confirming "food awesomeness" is the official language of the establishment. Through the front windows, there were already tables of patrons on a Wednesday at 1230pm, another welcome sign. Let's go in! The decor is no-frills, clean, and bright with a side counter, round tables and chairs, a short bench in front, and the order counter in back. A large screen TV was playing a classic Gunsmoke rerun. Older folks who seemed like regulars were dining on hot dogs, grilled cheese, and soups, and another patron was waiting for a take out order. A friendly gentleman, later confirmed as the owner, greeted us warmly and we got down to business: the menu. A handwritten board showed a large selection of signature dogs, most named for the neighborhoods and areas around the locale. Each combo could be had as footlong, veggie, or turkey for an extra dollar, with a "build your own" dog option which would be fun for kids. The take-home menu doesn't do justice to the dozens of dog combos, named for the local 'hood, region, state, or sports team du jour. The "South Philly" dog, for example, features spicy mustard, sharp provolone cheese, all smothered in sauteed onions. Dig the dogs! Giving in to hipster locavore trendiness, I chose "The Feasterville", while Mrs. F kept it real with "The Jersey". Each were footlongs, with the Feasterville featuring sharp provolone with jalapeno slices. The Jersey, by contrast, was decked out in sweet and tangy coleslaw, sauteed onions, provolone and... wait for it... bacon! Mrs. F also opted for a cup of corn chowder, the soup of the day. We watched Gunsmoke, read a complimentary Courier-Times, and chatted about "The Wall of Fame" on which 91 patrons are enshrined for conquering "The Beast", aka two dressed-out footlong dogs in under 10 minutes. At $10, one is tempted to bring the kids, and have some fun slaying these meaty dragons. The food arrived promptly, brought to our table by the owner in less than 10 minutes. Both dogs were distinctive, each a grilled footlong in a freshly toasted bun with abundant and colorful toppings. The Feasterville dog was sharp and spicy, while the Jersey served up sweet and savory coleslaw/bacon wonderfulness. What impressed us both was the freshness of the food (including the corn chowder) but also the friendliness of the owner. For example, we had a bottle of soda which was very flat, which the owner promptly let us replace with another soda, with zero percent awkwardness. Mrs. F and I had a great lunch! Since there are dozens of other hot dog and grilled cheese combos, we will definitely come back to Cheese Dawgs, bring the kids, and who knows? Maybe get a name on the Wall of Fame. I'm not going to say I'm a hot dog connoisseur (had to look up how to spell that!)...okay, maybe I am. I'll get a hot dog any chance I get. They just remind me of the summer and the ball park. Anyway, when I came across Cheese Dawgs, I couldn't resist. I started out with a plain dawg, which was good, but then I stepped my game up and went for south philly dawg (I can't resist spicy mustard). It was amazing. I refuse to BBQ for the rest of the summer; I'd rather just stop off at Cheese Dawgs and get my summer bbq filling. read more

On my great American hot dog search this place came up on yelp as a must see in Buck's County. it didn't disappoint. We had the footlongs. One w/mustard and raw onions (i'm a purist) the other an "Arizona Dawg." The hot dog was quality as was the roll. No potato bread rolls here, the bread is straight from a NJ Italian bakery, Aversa's. The owner is friendly and we had a nice chat about some the famous Jersey top dogs (Jimmy Buffs, Destination Dogs, Rutt's Hut). Got to see someone take the "beast" challenge while we were there. A 2 ft. long hot dog that must be eaten in less than 10 minutes! if you succeed you get a t-shirt and your name on the wall of fame. Don't think I'll consider that but I will be back to enjoy the good food and friendly atmosphere. read more

I expected more. It was a basically a hot dog with American cheese and a topping. I thought the dogs would be better based on the hype.

This place is so good for what it is. They're open 11am-4pm and have a pretty large menu. I'd like to go back and try another one but when I first stopped by, my boyfriend got in a conversation with the owner and was asking if he knew anything about "completos" (which in my opinion is the best style of hot dog - Chilean staple) and the owner knew what he was talking about! So he made me a completo with what he had available; traditionally the completo has diced tomatoes, mayo and mashed up avocado (don't judge until you try it!). The Cheese Dawgs version was a bit different but still tasty and the owner was so friendly. read more

Dogs were decent. We had the Dallas, NY, NJ and Pleasant Pig. The Mac and cheese is Kraftlike, not homemade. They offer several different kinds of bagged chips but no fries or rings. They have water for $1. Service by the owner was very friendly. read more

Best hot dogs in the area...the guy that runs it is super nice,he makes u feel like you're at home and he is a genius when it comes to concocting delicious food..I'm not sure if it's mentioned but he allows byob....what goes better with a hot dog than a nice cold beer...if u still have room PLEASE try the cherry bomb.. Stopped by with my daughter i had a great footlong Trenton hotdog. Porkroll wrapped around hotdog on a great roll. Daughter had roastbeef melt both were excellent. The owner is extremely friendly and takes pride in his food. A couple of regulars were in there joking with us and recommending things. Such as the grlled ice cream on glazed donut. I have driven passed this place a thousand times and have never thought to stop in. One day we were looking for a fast and yummy lunch and decided to give this place a try. My boyfriend got a jersey foot long. I got a chili crunch regular. We took them out, got them home and chowed down. The chili crunch was absolutely amazing! The bun, the hot dog and the chili and Fritos was a perfect combination. I regretted immediately getting the regular size. I wanted more! My boyfriends hot dog was gone in under two minutes. He thoroughly enjoyed it. This is definitely a place I would go back to. I'm craving it just writing about it. read more

Perfect hotdogs here. Had the breakfast foot long, buffalo chicken grilled cheese and another kind of grilled cheese that had Swiss cheese, ham , pickles on rye bread. Everything was delicious. They had grape soda which is glorious. I'm a fan and we'll definitely be back. read more

Stopped in today for a good hotdog and this place was awesome! If you're looking for a Jersey shore type of hotdog, this is the place to get it and it's a lot closer than the shore. The owner is very friendly and there's a huge variety of different hot dog flavor combos that will fancy your taste buds. For me to write 5 stars for what sounds like a hot dog place means a lot. I reserve 5 for the best of the best, and that is what this little underrated place is. Three comfortable tables, a menu of unique food and drinks, run by a man who truly loves food and having fun making food. Check the link to their website and you will get a glimpse as to why this is not your run of the mill restaurant. Privately owned and run. This man cares about his product and customer's like no owner I've ever had the pleasure of meeting before. By no means are these standard hot dogs, and by the way, the cheese in 'Cheese Dawgs' stands for grilled cheeses. He also has soup for the non-daring traditionalist. Desert was a very quality cherry water ice and chocolate covered bacon. Next time I will try his fried ice cream sandwich. When I tell you this place is tops, I mean it. WOW! My kids loved the unique dawgs! My kids tried the grilled cheese, bustleton, Arizona, and Texas tommy. My guys ordered a second round cause they were delish! Finally got here and I will tell you that I was extremely happy I did! I ordered the Jersey and the Chicago. Both were outstanding. I saw many more varieties go by as I ate and all looked fabulous. Super Cute Place. Someone told me about it and I stopped by to pick up lunch for a bunch of hungry guys. I personally don't really eat hot dogs - but they smelled really good. I broke down and ate one (Texas Tommy) and it was excellent. I took 15 dogs back to work - Chicago, South Philly and Texas Tommy's. They ate them in record time. The Chicago had this fluorescent green relish on it that kind of resembled Jello - everyone was a little hesitant - but they said it was excellent. The gentleman inside was very nice as well. I don't work or live very close - but will make the trip on the weekends for lunch since they aren't open late. FYI - they take credit cards, but not Amex read more

We were in the area visiting family and wanted something not to heavy for lunch. I've been jones'n for a dog and BOOM! Cheese Dawg knocked it out of the park. Great dogs and great grilled cheese. This was our first visit so I decided to sample the waters with just the New York (kraut, and spicy mustard) and my wife had a classic grilled cheese.
